  • Power Shunt Resistor Mod on my GTX 1070 to unlock as much power as possible using liquid metal. I also used my Arctic aftermarket GPU cooler and some Noctua fans and that pushed things to the limit! **** HUGE Disclaimer, I am not going to be held responsible if you do this mod your self and things blow up. I'm just showing you what I did, not advising you what to do. Good luck!

      I have the perfect amount, I can't go above 103 of 110 on the power slider now. I've had this card at 2.2 Ghz stable. It's as far as it will go. I need to get a real card, VOLTA HERE I COME

  • @Phils_Pet_Penisaur
    @Phils_Pet_Penisaur 6 лет назад

    You should check the resistance with a multi-meter before and after mod. Be careful not to lower the resistance too much by using to much liquid metal or other conductors like wire otherwise the card will go into safe mode and be locked at a couple hundred MHZ.

    I hate that type of shunt mod.
    why don't people just man up and solder a piggy back shunt on or swap the shunt.
    Liquid metal eats solder and its liquid so it's going move.
    It's very hard to get the exact amount you want with liquid metal because how much liquid metal is 5milliohm anyway.

      No, that was EVGA not putting thermal pads on the VRM's of their 1080's and having a shit BIOS. They issued the pads for free and you had to put them on yourself. Wasn't an issue on Reference cards or any other brands.

    I've seen alot of OCed 1070s and i noticed that mine must be a pretty good Overclocker, i'm getting around 2126-2152 on the Core, at full load around 55-60C and 600 on the Memory with an Air cooled 1070 FTW, (with the side panel off of my case), and i never got any crashes or artifacts, makes me wonder just how far i could go with it, but i'm happy with the OC i have on it already.

    You bypass a protection mechanism of the electrical design and by doing so you put the GPU in Risk of Death. Is it worth Risking a 500$ (600 today) for 3% performance boost ? I don't think so... Its like taking a Fuse of the system

    The MSI AB slider doesn't actually "add" any additional power to a GPU. What it does is ALLOW the power (max value defined in the BIOS vs the default value) to be used. That's it..

    Also this mod is kind of (although not totally) pointless unless your water cooling and although max clock speed doesn't increase that much, its not really the point of this mod. Its more about making the card nice and stable and not constantly go up and down all the time because its struggling for power when unmoded and overclocked. So it will cure a lot of minor here and there stuttering if your running 4k 60fps for example.
