I replaced the air box with an aftermarket filter. So that way, I have easy access to that bolt down their at any time. I checked mine at 40k miles and it's good still
Looks exactly like a Saab 9-3 with the 2.0L turbo. And, with the Saab, you get it from underneath FAR EASIER than digging from the top of the engine, all the way down.
My torque converter has an issue. Transmission shudder. How I love Mazdas….anyway, I’ll be putting some SHUDDER FIX into the trans dipstick hole. Thanks for the video! Now…to sell my cx5
I have been looking for a video like this, thank you!. I have a 2017 Mazda CX-5 with 85,500 miles and already has a transmission fluid leak. I was recently informed by the dealership that there are no gaskets to replace to stop this minor leak. The entire transmission has to be replaced even though its in good running condition just slightly leaking!! The transmission is sealed therefore checking the transmission fluid level is possible but very difficult. When I took it to the dealership I asked them to check the level but was ignored. I do have a second mazda CX-5 but a 2021 with 16K miles and am afraid that the same will happen to it in a few years. Wow I am shocked to have to replace the entire transmission at 85K miles. Was warned not to buy mazdas but I did not listen and now I have 2.
Hi, thanks for the comments. I believe if the leak is coming from the main transmission casing joined to the engine, there is no gasket with Mazda. There is, however a specific sealant for this that when used will take care of the problem. The transmission fluid change itself is straight forward, with the trans oil pan easily accessible where you can change the filter, clean the pan and replace fluid. MAZDA CX-5 specific oil only, and never fill more than you get from dropping the oil from the transmission. As far as the bigger unit being taken off the engine, I would go to an reputable independet transmission place and have them look at it. Mazda started doing their own transmissions in 2012 and they are well made, prior to them being made by Jatco.
I have a 2021 cx5 and am confused. Is there a serviceable trans in them? I have 46000 miles. Do they get filter and fluid changes? I have heard from some that the transmission is lifetime no service nessasary. Have you heard any different? Ty
Hey thanks for the video. Are you sure the car has to be running when checking the level? I can't find anything from mazda on if that's the case they say the temp to check it but not if it has to be running
Hi, thanks for the comments. Traditionally, all auto trans fluids are checked when car is at normal operation temperature, level and engine running. Cold reading is indicative. This warm, level and engine running is based on experience and how they have always been checked. You could check it right away when you turn off your car.
i was told to run my cx-5 until it was (hot) transmission fluid at 122F , and check it with the car TURNED OFF........ the main point i was told was , NOT that the fluid be moving but that the fluid be HOT .. it even says on the dip stick the temp it should be . if it was simply about running the engine while its warm there would be NO labeling on the dip stick that it MUST BE 122F ( transmission fluid temp)
Thanks...I have the same issue. Am contemplating between replacing the sensor or doing away with the DPF system all together. What would you recommend?
my local Mazda dealer informed me that I don't have to change transmission fluid ever on my 2013 cx 5 during its lifetime. can anyone confirm? 2013 CX 5 AWD Skyactiv 2.0
I'm changing mine today on my '13 CX-5. If your car lasts 15 years then it was lifetime fluid. If your car lasts 2 years then it was still lifetime fluid. I would change it if your mileage isn't already too high.
This is BULLSHIT! The dealers and manufacturers have been making this bullshit up for the past couple of years! They say it's lifetime fluid but they only care about the car reaching the end of their warranty! Change your transmission fluid every 50k-80k or every 5-7 years whichever comes first. If you care about your transmission invest in 100% synthetic transmission fluids, not full synthetic fluids. Use brands like Motul, Amsoil, or Redline transmission fluid and you will probably never have an issue with your transmission. Amsoil ATF was tested in las vegas heat in taxis and they drove for around 150k-250k miles. When they took the transmission apart to see the wear they were clean inside and had barely any wear. Would you rather trust the manufacturer that already got your money and not spend the 200$ extra for the fluid change or wait and possibly end up needing a new trans randomly. Sounds like your dealer would rather make more money having you come back years later needing a new transmission or an overhaul done than having you spend 200-300$ on some maintenance every couple of years. Transmissions are expensive on these new cars easily a 5k job or more at a dealer.
Change the oil. Drop the pan, change filter, clean everything and re-assemble. It is worth it. Only add slightly more trans oil that you dropped out of the car.
Hmmm, I was able to use an extra long extension, and put my hand and arm down there, I did not have to remove the box. But, use a thin long sleeved shirt, or you will burn your forearm.
Great tip on the air box, thanks!

Which one did you go with?
Isn’t it better to check it from under the vehicle?

Do you check the fluid with the engine running or not? I know it needs to be hot. But running or not ?
These gearboxes do they need oil change?

Do the transmission reset procedure. Rip you probably sold it already

@@krisg87806 just do simple DIY drain and fill every 30K miles and you good to go.
Pop the plastic skid guard off from under the transmission and you can access the dipstick easier. Best of luck.
One plastic cover underneath and you have clear access to the dip stick. Way easier. Don’t waste your time.
Actually not. You have to jack the car up and remove a good portion of the undercover before you get to the dipstick.

If you live where you are allowed to remove DPF might consider. Keep in mind the negatives, re-programming among other things.
Hi, may I know which brand of ATF is best for mazda cx5 2.2 diesel? I just reach 110k and 5 years. how about motul ATF?
Make sure it is ATF-FZ oil, Motul is fine, any reputable brand will do.
It seems completely absurd to me that you'd have to _run the engine without the airbox installed_ just to check the transmission fluid level.
Yes it is, but unless you can lift the car and try and do it from under the car, this seems to work.
Just unplug the electric fans so it’s safe to reach in there and do it without removing the air box

Well that sucks that they did it this way
Most new cars are done this way, unfortunately.
It’s a total setup if you ask me. Just trying to make things more difficult for us for one reason only
Lol I came back here now realizing I was already here. I want a 2021 but now I'm thinking I need an older model
Honestly at least there is a dip stick.
CVT transmission?
No, Mazda Automatic Transmission.
mazda doesnt use CVT
You mean "FZ" ATF.?
Yes, I corrected the typo. Thanks!
I have a 2019 Mazda CX5 is it the same.
Does it have the 2,2 l diesel? Could be the same but cannot be sure. Get a flashlight and try and locate the dipstick on the transmission side.
