Dead set Rickman deserved an Oscar for his performance as Snape, he not only brought the character to life from the book unlike any other book to movie adaptation but he improved upon it, it's also worth mentioning he has to be one of the most underrated actors of all time. RIP.
Oscars rarely go to science fiction movies and/or actors. It's like the last prejudice, even though these movies are among the most popular and highest-grossing. His roles in Die Hard and in Kevin Smith's Dogma are my favorites, by far.

He was perfect as Snape. I remember not long after one of the early books was released, I was sitting with some friends and we were discussing "If they make Harry Potter into movies, who should play ..." I said Rickman for Snape. We all agreed. Only other person I could have seen as Snape was Tim Curry. The HP series was perfectly cast.

Skedaren British actors have something in their style, pronunciation and everything... they are subtle... for exe, Sir Anthony Hopkins. god, u most love him as dr Lecter... 😊 their acting is perfect
I don't know. Here are some superior actors who aren't/weren't British: Steve McQueen Johnny Depp Javier Bardem Dustin Hoffman Meryl Streep Nicole Kidman Elizabeth Taylor Joan Crawford Bette Davis Samuel Jackson Morgan Freeman Etc ....
Love that character by him, too -- so much so that I did a fanfic of HP where I have him capable of a potion that transforms him temporarily into a younger version of him with little knowledge of his past. I named the alternate ego "Christopher" because it was Brandon's first name.
So many amazing performances. Hans Gruber was so reserved and seemed so milquetoast, but he was actually a stone-cold badass. Alexander Dane was so amazingly funny and tragic, but he really had a huge heart. Snape is without question his best.
He wasn't even the bad guy, he was a true "antagonist" someone with different motives. "That mint jelly on your lamb... is my own creation." Best performance ever.
Today, 5 years ago, the world became poorer, lonelier, darker ... because we lost a wonderful shining star. I still love and miss him, just as much as I've done every day since January 14th, 2016 ... and tears are already running ... 💔 After all this time ... Always💔
Professor Snape lives on in our hearts! He never died in the book... He was a potion master so obviously he drank some honey badger antivenom to survive
+Bin chicken AKA White Ibis Can't you read ? The OP is talking about how fans feel about Snape and not what actually happened in the fucking series. Really youtube comments ...
@ Sergio, funny you made that comment because I too invisioned him using a potion to escape death. He was my favorite character from the start. I had hoped that he would end up on Potters side since he was once in love with his mother. That part ended up truth. Unfortunately, after Dumbledore died, I had Snape's death figured out and was hainging on to the hopes of being wrong. Ironic that everyone thought Dumbledore was on Harry's side when in fact, he was using him. Snape was the one that looked out for Harry in a passive way.
Harry Potter is 8 movies though. It's Hard enough to play an iconic character that millions of people had imagined while reading the books. He managed to sustain that character over eight movies even getting better as it went along. That's really difficult.
Snape was great, Marvin was a pisser, Gruber was a badass, and the Judge was pure evil....but the sarcastic, crotchless, reality-altering, utterly sardonic Metatron will always be my favorite Rickman. R.I.P.
Would've liked to have seen Rickman's performance in "Bottle Shock" somewhere on this list. Still, it goes to show just how many memorable performances this man gave throughout his storied career. May he rest in peace, and be perpetually remembered for his amazing acting ability forever.
Agreed, loved him in that movie but then I loved him in every movie except for Closet Land. I could not stand seeing him play an Interrogator and torturing a woman.

It sucks ass
+Stuff You See In The Cinema For you; plenty of people think differently - and Alan Rickman was awesome in that movie. 💕

That movie is my favorite
No,it's not
Probably the greatest actor of the last 35 years.. what a legend RIP you Englishman
BEAUTIFUL Englishman in so many ways.
"And it's a human need to be told stories. The more we're governed by idiots and have no control over our destinies, the more we need to tell stories to each other about who we are, why we are, where we come from, and what might be possible."
Alan Rickman
Starrman69 Amen!
A great quote. Didn't know about it, thank you for sharing.
His performance in Robin Hood was amazing and Oscar-worthy
I will always love him as Jamie in Truly, Madly, Deeply. After that, as the kind and gracious and loyal man he was.
His death still causes me deep sadness. Mr. Rickman was supposed to live forever.
What a fantastic actor! My all-time favorite part for him was the Metatron in Dogma, but he is heart-melting in Sense and Sensibility, too. Thanks for this video!
He was a great actor in every movie, but his portrayal of Rasputin was genius
The greatest Slytherin that ever lived😍So sad that he died😭The best role he ever played was Severus Snape in Harry Potter, i think. And in Robin Hood he also played perfect😭😍😍😍💖He was one of the best actors😍😭R.I.P.💕#teamalanrickman #teamsnape
British actors are superior and Alan Rickman was my top 5 actor.
Skedaren British actors have something in their style, pronunciation and everything... they are subtle... for exe, Sir Anthony Hopkins. god, u most love him as dr Lecter... 😊 their acting is perfect
You know, I'd like to disagree, but Gary Oldman is my favorite (living) actor, and Peter Sellers may be my favorite dead actor. Both Brits.
FlashGordon who were the others?
I don't know. Here are some superior actors who aren't/weren't British:
Steve McQueen
Johnny Depp
Javier Bardem
Dustin Hoffman
Meryl Streep
Nicole Kidman
Elizabeth Taylor
Joan Crawford
Bette Davis
Samuel Jackson
Morgan Freeman
Etc ....
+Vanessa P Superior (non-British) actors:
Ivan Trojan
Jean Reno
Gèrard Depardieu
Karel Roden
Rudolf Hrušínský starší (II.)
So sad, there will never be another Alan Rickman, missed his unique voice & demeanour
Love him in every movie he's in. a little part of me died when he did...rip Alan Rickman.
Tandy p Me too 😭😭😭
Leaving his performance in Quigley Down Under off this list is wrong.
I agree, he plays that role so well that I was glad when he got his comeuppance.
Definitely should have been there.
Love love love him he will always be Colonel Brandon to me.... Lucky Marianne Dashwood.
Joanne St John Colonel Brandon to me too. Always !
Joanne St John One of my favorites! I love him in Sense and Sensibility ❤️
I agree.. and his voice was deeply sexy (as was Oliver Reed's!)
Love that character by him, too -- so much so that I did a fanfic of HP where I have him capable of a potion that transforms him temporarily into a younger version of him with little knowledge of his past. I named the alternate ego "Christopher" because it was Brandon's first name.
I went to see hugh grant and decided I loved Alan more.
He was so natural in his role of Snape. I thought he was so pitiful in the final film when he told of his love for Harry Potter's mother.
Always
Rest in peace Alan Rickman You will always be remembered
RIP Alan Rickman. You was taken from us to soon. But you will be remembered. Always!!!
Henric Amhliden true
Dogma is so misunderstood, it is a wonderful and actually is positive about religion. Alan Rickman is so wonderful in it.
So many amazing performances. Hans Gruber was so reserved and seemed so milquetoast, but he was actually a stone-cold badass. Alexander Dane was so amazingly funny and tragic, but he really had a huge heart. Snape is without question his best.
Snape -“always”
Me-😭😭😭😭😭😭”he should have lived”!!
I recommend that you read "The curse child" for that alternative reality...
Blame Voldemort and nagini
R.I.P Alan Rickman, we will miss you. Love you!
Alan will ALWAYS be in my heart.
Savanna Malfoy Always
I just can't stop missing him. Oddly, it seems to just get stronger over time. Such talent, so freaking charismatic, in all his roles.
best harry potter actor & character
1000% agree. 👍👍👍
Always
agreed!!!
Obviously
With Dame M. Smith
"After all this time?"
"Always"
Quigley down under....... he played the bad guy in that one. i watch it when ever its on tv!
daniel boyd cooper
This is one of my favorites!
I was just thinking, why does no one EVER mention Quigley Down Under!??
I bought the DVD last time I was Down Under :o)
He wasn't even the bad guy, he was a true "antagonist" someone with different motives. "That mint jelly on your lamb... is my own creation." Best performance ever.
"I said I didn't have a use for one, I never said I didn't know how to use it."
Today, 5 years ago, the world became poorer, lonelier, darker ... because we lost a wonderful shining star. I still love and miss him, just as much as I've done every day since January 14th, 2016 ... and tears are already running ... 💔 After all this time ... Always💔
Mr Todd, Mr Potter, I'LL CARVE YOUR HEART OUT WITH A SPOON! "Why a spoon why not a axe or-" BECAUSE IT'S DULL YOU TWIT IT'LL HURT MORE!!!
That's one of my favorite lines in the movie.
@@katrielchapman9934 That wasn't from HP...that was from Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves.
One of the best lines in a movie.
Professor Snape lives on in our hearts! He never died in the book... He was a potion master so obviously he drank some honey badger antivenom to survive
Sergio Lefebvre he died... he was killed by Voldemort’s viper snake Nagini (the books said he moved no more)
+Bin chicken AKA White Ibis Can't you read ?
Die Hard should have been #1. Rickman was incredible in this movie.
Yes the only reason why they picked Harry Potter was because the movie is more popular
Harry Potter is 8 movies though. It's Hard enough to play an iconic character that millions of people had imagined while reading the books. He managed to sustain that character over eight movies even getting better as it went along. That's really difficult.
Alan Rickman was so funny as The Sheriff of Nottingham. Yes, that role truly made the movie.
I don't believe in a god, but Alan had a god's voice. Badass and gentle at the same time.
Consider Alan Rickman deified by all his followers on earth.
Moooras
Fits cause he's the Metatron.😊
Absolutely!!!! If there was an omnipotent being Alan Rickman would fit the bill as an actor.
Snape was great, Marvin was a pisser, Gruber was a badass, and the Judge was pure evil....but the sarcastic, crotchless, reality-altering, utterly sardonic Metatron will always be my favorite Rickman.
R.I.P.
Best voice ever
Would've liked to have seen Rickman's performance in "Bottle Shock" somewhere on this list. Still, it goes to show just how many memorable performances this man gave throughout his storied career. May he rest in peace, and be perpetually remembered for his amazing acting ability forever.
I was looking at the comments to see if anybody else would mention Bottle Shock.
Snape, you'll ALWAYS be in our hearts.
I loved him in a movie called Blow Dry.He was hilarious and fantastic!
Agreed, loved him in that movie but then I loved him in every movie except for Closet Land. I could not stand seeing him play an Interrogator and torturing a woman.

Brazilian, ok - close enough to Portuguese from Portugal.
My favorite Is Christopher Brandon in Sense and Sensibility. He rocks as a lead.
He was amazing as snape
10 POINTS TO SLYTHERIN
And 10 points to watchmojo for this video on the best actor in the world
When he was cast to play Snape, JK Rowling told him to think of what Always meant to him.
WHAT!!! no "Quigley Down Under"?! AWE MAN! not only is it an awesome cowboy movie with Tom Selleck in its own right, but Alan Rickman was spectacularly despicable as villainous ranch owner Elliot Marston. not only is he equally as evil as Hans and the sheriff of Nottingham, but just oozes that love to hate wicked charm characteristic that only he can provide!
Fell in love with his performance as Hans Gruber in Die Hard 1 many years ago before HP and then fell in love with his acting style all over again while watching the HP franchise.
Rickman’s one of my favorite actors of all time! He’s one of the reasons Snape’s my favorite character in the Harry Potter series, but even that role can’t beat his portrayal of Hans in Die Hard!
RIP Rickman!
The Sheriff is my favorite Rickman In Rare Form Character. He Made That Movie.
Agreed!
Hay! 😊Anybody here of Quigley Downunder. Great movie. He plays a great villain. Tom Sellik plays the hero. You know Magnum PI.😁
Was going to comment this!!! He was so good as the villain on Quigley!
He really was!
I didn’t get to your comment about this film before I made mine, you are so right though, he was so good in that role.
Elliot Marston and the Sheriff of Nottingham made me appreciate a ready good bad guy
If only he played a villain in a episode of Magnum..
I could listen to him read the phone book....all day, every day. ❤
