Charles, your like a breath of Fresh Air! I am just LOVING 🥰 your Videos! You really describe these cars in such a LOVING WAY!!!!!! And also, THANK GOD you pick very ORIGINAL cars and also very PERIOD CORRECT!!!!!!!
Fun fact: When Buick used the "V" emblem, they did NOT have the faux portholes on the front fenders. The "V" was only used in 1958 and 1959. In 1960, Buick debuted the "tri-shield" emblem and re-instituted the portholes. So the two most extravagantly styled Buicks shared the anomaly of the "V".
My father had a 56 Buick Special 2door and my uncle had a 58 2 door century riviera. What great cars they were. I have pictures of my dad standing with his Buick. My uncle sold his in the early 70' s to a young guy who just had to have it. By that time it looked like Christine when Arnie first saw the Fury. 😂
Thanks for your videos l have loved cars since I was a kid good old American made Iron don't get no better great my first car when l was 16 was a 63 OLDS Starfire , Pacific mist metallic those were the day's thanks for sharing (Doug in Ga) great video 👍
I saw a hardtop version of one some years ago but it was in pretty sad condition,it even had the wire wheels similar to the '53-'54 Skylark, that was the first time I knew that Buick offered a Century that year, this one is super sweet 😀
When I was a pre-schooler, our neighbors in Schenectady, NY had a yellow '58 Buick with a black convertible top. I don't know if it was a Century, but I know it was a really neat car. They later traded it in on a '63 or '64 Chevy Nova.
🙃Ahhhh! I CAN'T handle it! 🤪 This car is too awesome! Too beautiful! Dagmars on the REAR bumper? Unheard of! Seriously, this is one of the most beautiful cars you have featured on JOYRIDE. Thanks Charles!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
@@keithstudly6071 this is so true!! but I love the chrome roundness of the 58 and the amazing space age styling of the 59. and I both love their incredible interior and their panoramic and vista panoramic front shield. really for, these are my favorites!!!
At 3:34 you can see the shift quadrant - P-R-N-D-G - and that tells is this car had the extremely rare Flight Pitch Dynaflow. The following year it was called the Triple Turbine Dynaflow. Rare and replacement parts are unobtanium. Buicks of this era with the original Flight Pitch transmission are even more rare simply because most left the factory with the basic Variable Pitch Dynaflow. Those have P-N-D-L-R for a shift quadrant. This Buick is 1 of 2588 Century convertibles, but how many had the optional (and very expensive in its day) Flight Pitch transmission? And how many of those are registered and roadworthy over 60 years later?
@@nonelost1 The G was "Grade Retarder", and it applied a clutch that facilitated engine braking. The Flight Pitch used freewheel clutches in each ratio so that each higher gear could overrun the lower gear during acceleration. But that meant no engine braking as the car glides along at closed throttle as if it were in neutral. Chevrolet's similar Turboglide (1957-1961) started out in '57 calling the grade retarder the Hill Retarder, or Hr on the shifter. But people thought that meant High Range and would use on the highway and overheat the transmission. They changed it to Gr the following year. Note there is no "Low" in these transmissions, and no discernable shift points. The ultimate in slushy smoothness.
A real dream boat! Commanding presence. Bill is actually 6'5" but sitting in this beautiful beast gives the impression that Bill is a much smaller man. 😆 What about that pink dream he drove past?
Beautiful in those green tones. They say Harley Earl was putting chrome on cars with a trawl by 1958. the epitome of the term "yank-tank". Actually, Oldsmobile topped the Buick as "King Of Chrome", if you can believe it!
Thank you for calling them Wheel Covers..... They are not Hub Caps - My Dad was the plant manager of the Fisher Body Plant who made these Wheel Discs and he would fully approve of your flamboyant description of his favorite make BUICK
I got to help restore one of these . I worked on that grill for 3 weeks. And NO one makes the plastic clips that hold the square pieces on. Broke many to get off but found some really great German glue .
I've heard Buick boasted they had 80lbs. of chrome on their Buicks. Join us for discussions and rare card renderings and photos on our Facebook page: Cars: Design & Style
I have always thought these were fantastic looking cars. Both the Special/Century, the "small" Buick and the Super/Roadmaster, the big Buick. The Limited is even better, as it is bigger, more luxurious, and more expensive.
My parents were “Buick people.” I am not old enough to remember a ‘58 but until you’ve taken a cross-country trip in a 1969 Buick Electra 225 Limited with Lawrence and Dorothy, you have not lived. This Buick’s interior had white brocade upholstery and acres and acres of “Detroit wood.” (You know, plastic details designed to look like wood and fooled absolutely no one.) 1969. Why wasn’t I at Stonewall?!
Singlehandedly caused FEMA to enact emergency legislation to procure worldwide supply of chrome kitchen drawer knob pulls because every grille required an entire subdivisions allotment of kitchen cabinet drawer pulls ..... in short supply due to housing boom in the 50's
You could Polish one of those Chrome knobs on the front of the car in 5 minutes. Polish, shine and clean. But then they're gonna have about a 130 more to go.

I would say more ornamental, and perhaps somewhat over the top, but they were optimistic times and the exuberance shows. Tastes change over time as well, I remember as a kid hating the spindly legged furniture of the era, now I appreciate them more and the times they represent.
People are entitled to those opinions. Being a young kid in the early 60s, many of these mid to late 50s cars were around , but rusty and falling apart. They looked old and stodgy compared to sleek 60s models. Today, when they’re cared for, garaged, and restored, they remind us of the good old days. I’m breathing better not having to take in leaded gas emissions.
I wonder if the people who brought these cars originally knew just how magnificent they truly was . Did they understand they lived in a mn era of FABULOUSNESS
Charles you know how to announce and describe a beauty. This Buick looks fantastic. Keep em coming. Well done from Ohio.
I OWNED A 1958 OLDS 88 IT WAS MY SECOND CAR I OWNED. MY FIRST CAR I OWNED WAS A 1957 STUDABAKER SILVER HAWK. I WISH I HAD THEM NOW.GOOD MEMORIES.
That beautiful outrageous 58 Buick really shows how awesome it is when you see those Plain Jane white SUVs in the background in the driveways

My neighbor lady used to have me wash/wax her '58 century (black) when I was just a kiddo and I fell in love with this car!!
Nice video, very well recorded. Specially the car and Elvis' house together
Perfect car for mid-century Palm Springs homes!
I loved the "rush of rear end excitement!" Too much, Charles, LOL!!! That color!!!
I know!!!
Sonomatic. Great show. Let’s see the massive engine and truck in the future.

Loving it beautiful color great car it was a tank of a car and it's day
What a beautiful car. I love the color. But you forgot to notice the Buick red wheels. Yes. Authentic.
Same year I was born. Almost the end of a great era in car design. Thanks for sharing, Charles.
"When more meant more" - how very true here!
the Rush of Rear End Excitement...absolutely
That is a hell of a car!!!

You almost never see these today, but I remember when they were new cars. Didn't yet know what they were, but I sure did notice them.
so awesome! Love the color too.
Beautiful...how did you forget to mention the trailmaster spotlight mirrors??!!I get it the whole car is amazing, easy to get distracted

Did you see those yrs of Skylarks at BJ Auction ? Well over $200k. Crazy !
This is a national treasure-The Sharpest 1958 Buick Century Convertible

Now I'm wondering if GE still has that big beautiful classic sign with all those bulbs that dim... I doubt it

We have missed your videos. Love the car!
Thanks for the fabulous Joyride Charles 👏👏👏
Bill said it: Outrageous!👍❤️
0:34 Dang it Charles! THAT is Bob & Helene Alexander's "House of The Tomorrow!"
Beautiful car 🚗
I always wondered which car had the most chrome 58 Buick or 58 Oldsmobile ?
I think 58 was the panicle and after that we started downhill and in about 1972 we went into free fall!
Look at that Massive Chrome on that Car ❤ It
Wow!
What a beauty.
Nice presentation too. Hope you’re doing well, Charles. 💫
58 and 59 General Motors's cars, are my favorites.
But they are so different. 59's look nothing like the 58's.

59 Ford that was.
A 1959 Ford Galaxie.
Color it....Geranium/Colonial White
Charles, that pink ‘59 Ford oughta be next on your list if you haven’t done it already.

It has to be one if not "the one" favorite car of mine.
Incredible!
4:00 What an understatement! :)
Great car picks, backgrounds, reviews, and presentations! Excellent channel... subbed, and looking forward to more!

More steel just in the bumpers and trim than 27 Kias.
Back when the steel to chrome ratio was about 50/50. That was the "norm" back then. LOL!!!!
I've heard Buick boasted they had 80lbs. of chrome on their Buicks.

I love the chrome ribbed tail lights on the Limited! 🚦

WISH I HAD THAT CAR,,,AND BILL HAD MY SORE FOOT,,,ENJOY THE HELL OUT OF IT,,,58 WAS THE GREATEST YR IN AUTO HISTORY
Life was good in 58
The Tail lights were called "Light Towers".
I miss colors. Note at 3:37 the radio has civil defense markings, so you could tune to the emergency broadcast network.

I’m glad you’re back :D!
Wow cool!
I liked v them more than the Caddy. Dad said they were Better made than any other GM of the era
I wanna buy that beauty!!!!
Most Chrome on any 50s Car ! 🤔😱😍

Maaaaaan , shaaat aap !
Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz drove a similar vehicle in the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour episode that featured Maurice Chevalier in their trip to Mexico.
Indeed it was a white one
@@dontellgucci1117 Wasn't the show in black and white? So I guess it probably was white.
My mom's 58 wast white with a black top.
Was this the Buick that was actually more expensive than a cadillac
Known as the "Brontosaurus of the chrome age".
All original ?
When I think of the top 10 cars I would get when I win lotto...
Home sweet homa, a man needs chrome
🤔……. 3:55 the only thing “outrageous” is this guy’s mustache 👀…… 😳 The car is beautiful though!
It's interesting to note that a new Tesla weighs as much as these tanks did, think about that for a second
The beautiful 1950-1960 automobiles. Now Ford, Chevy, Dodge and Honda etc. are all boring look a likes.
Charles......Stop! Stop! Stop! My toes are curling!
LOL!
I've heard Buick boasted they had 80lbs. of chrome on their Buicks.

Sorry I'm a straight white man. I can't afford a car like that today.
I know! Lol!
Where Frank Lloyd Wright design Meets American Motors Royalty! ...I know.
When I was a kid and these cars were new, I thought they were butt ugly. My opinion has not changed.
