Anytime someone says "Just turn your brain off." to enjoy a show that isn't entirely satirical or a full blown comedy or really doesn't even know what it's trying to be.....do not trust their tastes.
I can do it. Or rather I could do it till woke was multiplied by x4 times. Now I cant stop myself from counting diversity hires, good wahmen bad man, oppression reminder etc. I would like to not think, but how the heck am I supposed to do it when it is everywhere.
I DID have my brain off the entire series, and STILL noticed so many flaws it was astounding people are defending it, and thats without even mentioning "lore"
Agreed. Even if some people disagree on how the battle is portrayed. Stuff is like Michelin Star stuff. It ain't a 3 star one but it's STILL a damn tasty one.
The amount of people I had to argue with about the lore was unreal. It manages to destroy Fallout 1, 2, and NV all at once. Gone, the decades of worldbuilding, set up, no mention of the "Fall" in universe. This show isn't canon. It lacks the good writing and impact necessary to call itself canon. West Coast will always be the better.
@@tdog4718 True. Though it's not so much as lost. It's that writers don't want to take the time to study other stories or learn proper writing techniques.
Had the same arguments with colleagues at work. They told me, oh it doesn't matter it wasn't super lore accurate, it was still good. Irony is, they both detest the Witcher series, because it isn't faithful to the lore. 🤦 I just can't with some muppets.
@@NeoVault_ Yeah it takes time that's for sure. I'm currently working on a FNV mod and ffs quality worldbuilding takes forever. At least if you want a detailed and logically made world.
@@FoxyFoxlyn What lore you're talking about with Witcher series? Because games were also not faithful to source material (books). It is kind of diminished your arguments, because it turned out that lore is not that important if the product is good. You can "change" the lore, it is not forbidden (Witcher games are great examples of this because they weren't faithful to source material -books - and fans still enjoyed). The Witcher series just got overboard with it is and failed, mostly because even writers admitted that they didn't like the source material. It wasn't because they didn't stick to the lore (games didn't and turned out to be great).
It’s not criticizing capitalism it’s kinda doing what the boys do where they criticize corporate power of mega corporations. Which appeals to socialists on the left and anti globalists on the right.
@@appropriate-channelname3049 The mega corporation presented is a delusional strawman whose goals make no logical sense, so it isn't doing a particularly good job of that. There are plenty of criticisms to be had of big corporations, presenting them as cartoonishly evil supervillains that seek to end the world isn't the way to raise them.
It’s similar to the way people who despise capitalism (or at least their distorted misrepresentation thereof) and they demonstrate their loathing of that caricature by buying Guy Fawkes masks from the world’s largest online seller, Amazon, with royalties going to the world’s fifth largest media and entertainment corporation, WBD.
My favourite part will always be Lucy telling Max he needs to give that vault their fusion core back but he doesn't want to because he wants to play with his armour. Then after he reluctantly does so she says she wants to date him. This guy was going to knowingly let a vault of overy nice people slowly die because he wanted to play with his toy and is instantly forgiven? Max is proven throughout the show to be a psycho/mental case but no one seems to care
We might have a witcher type situation, dood. People liked the first season well enough despite glaring mistakes and offences, but in season 2 the awful dial got cranked up so much that pretty much everyone finally realized they had been set up. Guess most doods are not learning animals.
I think you're right. I had heard of The Witcher games but hadn't played them. Only watched the show cuz Henry Cavill 😍. Made it thru season 2 and said nope, not gonna bother with the rest of it. I wanted to watch The Witcher, not two women I couldn't care less about girl bossing all over the place. Ciri was annoying and Yennifer was 3x worse. Didn't care about either of them, just Geralt and the bard's adventures.
It's funny because both shows relied on the traditional masculine male archetype character to hold interest in it. Witcher had Geralt, Fallout TV has ghoul cowboy
Theres a difference here , Netflix Witcher writer and show creator openly hate the game and the novels and wanted to create their own story they essentially piggy back the game success to build their own and I believe it's the same universe as it before the game. But Fallout showrunner they like the game and the showrunner and respected it rather than adapt the story or character from the game they made their own so it expand the world. Other than tht I agree with u and let's see if fallout showrunner is a liar or not.
It’s crazy that what is happening is what already happened ages ago with the Star Wars trilogy, people will go out of their way to act like something is good when it’s terrible…purely because they are attached to an IP. It’s actually insane how this keeps fucking happening.
The Open Bar where you, Gary, & Mauler got into it with Critical Drinker about this series was awesome! Nice to see people with opposing views instead of an Echo Chamber
In 200 years after the bombs fell nobody had an idea to clean or get things to work they just sit around like animals in their own piss and shit. This is Fallout 4 all over again.

@Gyrfalcon312lol how I liked the show, maybe a monsters showing up earlier yeah, but for what it was, a season one dip your toes into the water that was a good experience, it shows how whiny you are.
The people who made the show forgot to check their calendars, and clocks, unless you want to believe people are throwing massive children's birthday parties with dozens of guests and celebrity appearances at 6Am. Because they forgot what time the bombs dropped.
At least Fallout 3 and 4 had the clocks stopped between 9:45 am and 9:50am EST. Even Fallout 4 feels slightly off considering Nathan and Nora were eating breakfast when it’s almost 10:00am? Really?
If Nate and Nora just had breakfast on the east coast it would likely still be dark in California, barely the crack of dawn. Surely that’s peak time for kids birthday bash complete with cake, afternoon weather reports and mid day cartoons 😑

For the record, Shady Sands's "decline" is something made up by theory crafters to try and explain this retconning of an entire faction and game. All the mindless shills and consumers though use this as some sort of universal defence to instantly nullify whatever people who point this out say. Then they proceed to claim victory and plug their ears afterwards. The right answer to this copium filled retort is that nowhere in the games has it ever been implied that the NCR let alone Shady Sands was declining by 2277. Anything that tourists say afterwards only serve to expose how much they actually played the Fallout games. Or they sidestep into excuses and ad hominems.
Caesar does mention that the NCR is weaker overall because of the death of Tandi but most of what we see in New Vegas is the NCR in a warzone. They're struggling there because they aren't in their actual territory and they're fighting a very devoted, fanatical and strong army that's about the size of theirs.

I agreed with every single point you made. It's nice to know I wasn't insane for thinking this show was a subversive piece of cat shit but that there other who felt the same way.
The interesting thing about shows like these and Picard is that I've noticed there seems to be a very distinct racial/gender-based hierarchy established according to the portrayals of the characters: - White women are usually portrayed as competent and morally good - Black men are usually portrayed as incompetent but morally good - Black women are usually portrayed as competent but morally evil - White men are usually portrayed as both incompetent and morally evil There are some exceptions to these rules due to casting but generally, according to proportion of the number of characters depicted in each manner, this is pretty accurate across the board for most television series produced after 2020.
My friend was super-excited for this and he knows I'm a huge Fallout fan, and he's like "Todd Howard is a producer! The guy that created Fallout!" 🤦♂️ This show was rigged from the start.
Honestly, that's what makes the popular reception so strange; if Rings of Power, instead of trying (and failing) to tell a story that seems vaguely Tolkien-esque, was just a goofy action-comedy series, apparently half of the people who hated it for butchering lore, tone, theme, and failing basic writing rules, would have loved it. Because that's the only big difference I see; RoP attempted to feel like Lord of the Rings, like a fan-fiction, while Fallout didn't even try to feel like the games.
@PaladinHD apparently not much, given generally positive reception this show has, it just proves how easy it is to trick people into thinking that your pile os shit is much better than the other ones because you sprinkled some polish on it.

They keep pretending the show is not subversion, they keep pretending its not lore breaking and they keep pretending its not cringe.
Yeah, the logic of the criticism doesn't follow. Maximus turning against his militarised society in the penultimate episode was rooted in individualism, not communism. Lucy quoting Jesus and applying the golden rule to a set piece to change the Ghoul's outlook was also anti-collective and hailed a traditional western value. This is just a continuation of Bethesda's totally surface level writing. They simply are not creative enough to envision "post post apocalypse" only "post apocalypse". They retcon and destroy vegas and shady sands because those cities are a bastion of humanity developing back into a civilized society. They cannot allow NCR to survive, they must make Mr House an idiot and a full on villian instead of morally grey. This is fallout 4 writing but put into a show made for tourists.
i do agree with some points but house is totally a villain, he seems fair just because being fair facilitates being in power, if he has to anything to keep power he will do it, he tries to be smart about it because his body is a mummy so he cant even escape if someone assaults his tower, the courier can witness him in all his rotting glory, NCR was condemned to fail because of corruption, the legion would fail once caesar dies them their generals would fight between theirselves and none might have the capacity to unify and drive the legion like before, BoS are stuck in cycle of being limited by their own ideologies, search old tech but never recuperate any industrial capacity or political structure to become a real power, the enclave you need to play the first two games to get a picture of them, they are not so simple either and fallout 3 didnt do them justice, this all can play in the theory that humanity doesnt build itself again cause they are awfully mutaded, devoid of any knowledge and experience of the old world, the ghouls became either feral or embraced survivalism of the fittest, and the people theirselves can have their dna extremely degraded from inbreeding, radiation and exposure to biological weapons on the surface, not the mention being plagued by easy acess and nothing holding back drug abuse, be it either pre war drugs or new ones like jet, if house is alive in here i think hes the one who destroyed shady sands cause it was competition to his gambling drug empire, you need to remind how cities were in fallout 1 and 2, controlled by gangsters or police states and there were slavers everywhere rounding up tribals, so some spots of seemingly civilized trade hubs do happen, but everyonelse will them want to pillage it, wich is even the background for the hoover dam, where ncr battled BoS and BoS got crippled, them the legion came and new vegas was in the middle of it all, so id assume house dealt with the legion somehow and also dealt with the ncr, if anything hes not portrayed as stupid if it was him, but as a isolated trade hub that destroyed his larger rivals and in the spirit of new vegas game decisions.

Being a fallout fan myself (played 3, New Vegas and 4) I answered: If you're a fallout 3 fan, maybe, cuz the Brotherhood of Steel looks nothing to the one in 3, but the soundtrack will make you feel good. If you're a fallout 4 fan, then go ahead, because that seems to be the only game the writers know the story of. It's Bethesda-Fallout to its core. There are some good moments, but the overall tone and style is not what I would have wished for in a Fallout series. The plot has several gaping holes and the sense of location is a mess - characters are constantly jumping between lush forests and scorched desert. Power armor is also portrayed as kind of a joke. Its users are all incompetent, ineffective and it doesn't even stop claws or bullets. In the end, BoS Knights are also dropping like flies, which removes all sense of awe for this supposedly war-deciding superweapon.
Thank you Reaper! I never watch your stuff but I’ve seen you on Open Bar before, so I’m now subbing. This video perfectly encapsulates my feelings on this show. I feel like I’ve been in a bizarro world whenever I talk about this show with friends, as they unanimously love it and say it’s a perfect adaption and the writing is great. Every time I try to point out the issues I have, they just say I’m “nitpicking” or try to gaslight me into thinking that’s why the show is actually good, not bad. It’s been rough

I haven't ever played any of the Fallout games, but even ignoring lore destruction (which I hate even if it's a franchise I'm not familiar with) it just sounds like terrible writing across the board. It seems like so many writing problems that come from a first draft, not a finished show. It's almost as if they put a bunch of ideas up on a board, and instead of trying to figure out what would work and what wouldn't work, they just decided to go with all of it without setting anything up. Also, one of the things that I hate in these type of stories (and maybe it goes into more detail about it in the show if you watch it, which I am not going to), is how they always have to have so many girlboss characters at the front and center when it's like, this is a postapocalyptic wasteland. Sure there can be a few female soldiers, or maybe women are taught to defend themselves. But _realistically_ they would want to protect and preserve as many of the breedable women as possible to ensure the continuation of mankind. There's a reason why the women were sent to the caves in Helm's Deep, for example. Not because they wanted to keep women oppressed, but because if Rohan was going to have any chance to survive, the women and children needed to live. For Fallout to have not just a breedable female in a postapocalyptic story, but a PREGNANT woman in a postapocalyptic story be fighting in battle, is not just bizzare- it's stupid.

There was a scientist named Braun responsible for these G.E.C.K devices but now they’ve tossed the Maldover plot into the old mix.

I mean, those are the only games (+new vegas) that are considered generally good. And none of them are made by Bethesda. So obviously they would want to destroy them
Just to add to this, the oil base was destroyed in 2241 and fallout 3 took place in 2277, that is a 36-year gap. The Enclave Does NOT recruit non-Enclave, they are without their main base and still weakened in Fallout 3. Black Isle did that, not Bethesda.
What I find most impressive is that almost every single point cited in this video is something that was _not_ mentioned in both of synthetic man's videos; some of these (points from reaper's video) being devastating plot holes Which is to say, the show is even worse than what synthetic man's videos show, if you can believe that
Synthetic man has always been more of a gamer than a movie/tv show reviewer if we're being honest. He's better at shitting on horrible game design decisions and explaining why mechanics don't work rather than disecting the flaws of a stories script. Or looking for every subtle hint of DEI and sweet baby inc influence on a piece of media, even if he sounds a little schizo at times lmao.
Different people notice different things. I noticed the far-left political issues, that most reviewers didn't, or don't dare to mention, but many problems about the writing (even though I learned how to write) or the lore evaded my attention. Arch, Shad, Synth and others have good, but different points.
The bar for quality is INSANELY low these days.. and it continues to go lower and lower.. It's honestly depressing. I think I'll just stick to old media, thank you very much.
There are many more problems: Shady Sands is placed completely wrong. In the series it is directly within LA, while it should be in North California, between Vault 13 and 15, Shady Sands was founded by the Vault 15 members. I reconized it, while Fallout 1 is actuell the one and only Fallout I ever touched and before I read some Wikia and comments stuff in forums and blogs. Also while Shady Sands is the core and capital of the NCR, the NCR is a big faction, a republic with a large area, what means, even when the Capital should be destroyed, that doesn't mean, that the rest fall apart into nothing. But in the series, the NCR is completely opsolete in the first place, no remains of it, just the typcial civilizing stagnation and archany from Gaythesda Fallout. While the actuell rest of the supposed NCR ist introduced as Raiders, rapists, murders and the other survivors of Shady Sans are idiots, cannibals and religious morons. Also Vault 4, 31, 32 and 33 doens't make any sense, Vault 4 is also directly in LA and it's entrance is inside a large obviously concrete coffin, also the other three Vaults are part of LA and not hiden that well, what means, that the protagonists of F1 and 2 should stumble across those Vaults and the Master had easely broke into it before. Then why is the Enclave still existent in the western cost and why does the Brotherhood do duty for them, it was obliterated by the protagonist in F2 with help of the Brotherhood and the NCR. The Enclave saw themself as a kind of supremeness over the other humans and civilisations, the wanted to kill the remain survivors and postwar civilisations in the wasteland (so also every member of the Vaults, Brotherhood and NCR) and mutants and set themself as the last humand bastion. The whole experimentation thing is portrayed complete wrong in the show, while the Vaults were constructed as safety shelters as a result of the operation Safehouse, it was the Enclave (at that time the shadow goverment of the USA), what (ab)used the bunkers as Labs, for their former plans to construct a spacehip and colonize an other planet. And know the racial thing, while in the case to be diverse, the showrunners portray us societies with obviously members of different human races living tight together. Know we take Vault 33 as an example, we have explicit blacks, whites and tans, while those humans live for 219 years together. While there is a strict breeding program, but obviously this doesn't involved the race in the sense of racial segregation, because it doesn't matter, if a black one is a manager and overseer or not, and even Lucy had no problem to jump on Fin... eh Maxi-Pad. So in the sense of diversity in the case racial mixing, after 219 years, there shouldn't be that diversity after all, we've got seen in the show. The inhabitants of Vault 33 should look more or less equal. This is the problem of many modern shows, like The Witcher or The Ring of Powers, diversity can only exist through seperation, when you mix everything, everything becomes the same, this is Communism.
Not only was Shady Sands founded by Vault Dwellers, they built Shady Sands using a G.E.C.K device. G.E.C.K devices are powered by cold fusion. They gave the Vault Dwellers these cold fusion devices, but now they destroyed a city for doing what Vault Tech wanted them to do.

I'm confident the storyline for this was written by an AI chatbot. It's not just stupid, it's a complete clusterfuck. Either that, or it was written as it was filmed, and they came up with twists episode-by-episode. There's no way one or more actual human beings wrote the entire season's story beforehand, looked it over, and said "yeah, that makes sense". The final result is screwed up in a way that doesn't make sense. It's not a couple errors or plot holes that can be overlooked; it's a total fiasco.
Fallout has always criticized capitalism. Since day 1. That's literally the fucking message of the games, lmao. Do you think that Mr. House was the good guy or something, bro?
It's worse because the games explicitly show you that there are far worse things in the world than corporations. Just at their villains. The Master: An abomination who wants to eliminate humanity to make way for his race to rule the world. The Enclave: A government that engages in genocide as an excuse to bring back the US. The Legion: Fucking slavers! Mr. House is literally the least worst option and they still make him responsible for bombing the world?
I'd also like to ask, why TF they guy from Severance (good show, strongly recommend) is fat in a vault? They have limited resources, and are shown to excersise, which is supposed mandatory. But even withot excersise it would be very hard to get fat on what they eat there, and what are able to grow / have supplies for 200 years.
Because fat is a new thing to celebrate. Same shit in tlou show. I have only one wish. I wish that people stop paying for their services, stop going to see their movies. It has to happen or else we will have this idiocy forever.
You know the absolute worst part of Fallout 4 was the fusion cores to literally power the power armor power armor in the previous games were run on a nuclear reactor built inside of the suit they didn't need these stupid things
Worst of all is that this was introduced ENTIRELY because they needed some way to prevent you from completely steamrolling the game with the suit of Power Armor they give you super early on in Concord. Instead of, you know, just having some restraint and not giving you the Power Armor so easily. But then again that section was in the demo, so they wanted something to "wow" the journos with, I suppose. @@CantusTropus Bingo, that sequence was so forced. “Hey stranger, why don’t YOU go up to the roof and put on that power armor? Oh no, a Deathclaw! Anyways, you’re our leader now.”
It made me completely give up on using power armor because it was just another resource that took up space in your inventory. Also the way power armor works in general in 4 makes it so tedious and cumbersome. Not in the nice challenging way where old games like the originals had actual drawbacks to certain perks and mechanics, but in the chore way like doing homework. So happy when I see new videos of yours.
The interesting thing about shows like these and Picard is that I've noticed there seems to be a very distinct racial/gender-based hierarchy established according to the portrayals of the characters:
- White women are usually portrayed as competent and morally good
- Black men are usually portrayed as incompetent but morally good
- Black women are usually portrayed as competent but morally evil
- White men are usually portrayed as both incompetent and morally evil
There are some exceptions to these rules due to casting but generally, according to proportion of the number of characters depicted in each manner, this is pretty accurate across the board for most television series produced after 2020.
This is Fallout from the people who brought you Rings of Power.
What did anyone expect?
My friend was super-excited for this and he knows I'm a huge Fallout fan, and he's like "Todd Howard is a producer! The guy that created Fallout!" 🤦♂️
This show was rigged from the start.

@@superplayerex2431 Exactly, I see people using special stats as a cope to explain maximus lucking out, the special stats only really benefit the player character, it's a gameplay mechanic, same with stimpaks and food fixing gunshot wounds, and many other things, they are GAMEPLAY BENEFITS FOR THE PLAYERS CONVENIENCE, it wouldn't make sense for non-player characters like maximus to benefit, Caesar has 4 int in NV yet commands an army, Oliver swanick has 4 lck in NV yet wins the lottery, these stats are not assigned to characters so that they are a certain way, then also people have explained the dumb things in the show by saying "Oh it's wild wasteland" or "Oh Maximus has idiot savant" Like again these are gameplay features for the player to have more convenience or replayability, This would be like someone dying in the show and exploding like a nuke, and people could explain that away as the "Nuclear anomaly perk", I think whatever happens in the show, people will just say "Oh the series is wacky and has wild wasteland and easter eggs, so that excuses it," Fallout has become a joke in that regard, anything bethesda does will be excused by some people,

It’s another case of, “We don’t know how much o write tension or a sensible story.”

Just to add to this, the oil base was destroyed in 2241 and fallout 3 took place in 2277, that is a 36-year gap.
The Enclave Does NOT recruit non-Enclave, they are without their main base and still weakened in Fallout 3.

What I find most impressive is that almost every single point cited in this video is something that was _not_ mentioned in both of synthetic man's videos; some of these (points from reaper's video) being devastating plot holes
Which is to say, the show is even worse than what synthetic man's videos show, if you can believe that
Synthetic man has always been more of a gamer than a movie/tv show reviewer if we're being honest. He's better at shitting on horrible game design decisions and explaining why mechanics don't work rather than disecting the flaws of a stories script. Or looking for every subtle hint of DEI and sweet baby inc influence on a piece of media, even if he sounds a little schizo at times lmao.
Yep. Synth showed it as bad, but Reaper is showing that it was even worse than I though.

@@christopherbravo1813 Watch the video, dude
Different people notice different things. I noticed the far-left political issues, that most reviewers didn't, or don't dare to mention, but many problems about the writing (even though I learned how to write) or the lore evaded my attention. Arch, Shad, Synth and others have good, but different points.
FINALLY. Thank you! I thought I was going nuts hearing people say how great this show is. I watched it and was like…yep. What a pile of shit
The bar for quality is INSANELY low these days.. and it continues to go lower and lower.. It's honestly depressing. I think I'll just stick to old media, thank you very much.
There are many more problems:
Shady Sands is placed completely wrong.

You know the absolute worst part of Fallout 4 was the fusion cores to literally power the power armor power armor in the previous games were run on a nuclear reactor built inside of the suit they didn't need these stupid things
I really hated that mechanic.
It's a good example of FO4 putting style ahead of substance - do a Really Cool Thing without thinking about what the cost will be, then implement some awkward and frustrating solution to patch things up.
It was incredibly stupid to introduce it in the beginning of the game too.
@@FredJokamotraye That was a shame for me. I was always reluctant to use Power Armor in Fallout just due to my play style, but I enjoyed hauling around my junk in power armor for FO4….didn’t do it for long because of that resource management. It just didn’t feel right.

The only thing Drinker knows about movies and TV series is whether they are “woke” or not. And even that's not entirely true.
That is because Reaper is wrong and can only talk bad about shows to get views. If you go into a show thinking it will be bad ,guess what, the show is going to be bad. Being positive doesn't get Reaper views so he has to talk about bad shows no matter what even if it is good.

It gets a lot of praise but I believe that’s entirely due to the interesting setting and high production value. The writing of the characters is abysmal. Everyone is an insufferable moron.
Lots of the characters are naive due to there lack of exposure to the real world. I found Norm and Cooper to be very smart picking up on the sexrets around them pretty quick. Max and Lucy were also fairly smart they just needed time to adjust. Lucy represented charimatic intelligence and Max is more akin to the real world. I think it was revealed he had high endurance.
I honestly thought that the cast of characters were well rounded. Max could've had some plot holes fixed up but other than that, i found them quite charming. How would you of changed the story if you feel strongly this way?

The lack of stakes/consequences, how often the tone & storytelling are undermined for cheap bits, how things change to suit the plot (as in the mech suit that could take down a cement building but couldn't stand up to a bear), and how easily characters stumble upon the exact person they need to meet to move the plot along in the middle of a wasteland.
