MC:SM got EXTREMELY lucky with the RUclipsrs they chose to have a role in the game. None of them (to my knowledge) have faced any serious drama or allegations in their careers, and some have even retired with a good amount of fanfare and good farewells. Also, as a Stampy fan: The redstone skills are because during his playthrough he'd build a lot of redstone-heavy minigames for his funland. And yes, he does refer to mobs as "Googlies". He even named an island "Googly island" because of how many googlies would spawn there lol Lastly, his skin actually *is* that fox fairy from Elysian Tale. His series started on the Xbox 360, and that skin was a part of one of the skin packs you could choose in that version. It just looks more like a cat when it's a Minecraft skin.
Minecraft: Story Mode holds a very special place in my heart. While it's far from perfect, I really enjoyed it for what it is. I especially love the characters, with Petra being my all-time favorite.

Regarding each episode in the Witherstorm Arc seemingly having different people working on it: they actually started to bring in only one lead writer, Eric Stirpe, from the Portal Arc onward. That's actually a big reason for the more consistent tone and Petra and Lukas' "personality changes" starting Episode 5. Eric has a Tumblr where he frequently used to answer questions from fans, you should be able to find some interesting MCSM tidbits there 😉
1:30:04 - Far Lands weren't patched out on purpose. In (I believe) 1.8 the terrain generation code was rewritten, which essentially removed far lands bug from happening. Jeb afterwards stated that he wanted to keep the Far Lands in, but it was impossible with the new system without specifically writing another one to generate ones "artificially", which he decided not to do.
Honestly, I'm glad they didn't go that route. What makes the Farlands so fascinating to begin with (at least to me) is BECAUSE they're broken. They're NOT MEANT to be there. Causing them generate on purpose would make them lose the charm and mystery of it all.
Writer here: when you want to redeem an evil character I’d actually say that “what if they just got so stupid” is the FIRST thing you consider. At least, it is for me (it isn’t always what I go with ofc, it doesn’t always work, but it’s a treat when it does)

End cities, ships and the elytra didn’t exist by this point in the game’s history. This game was also made pre-nether update so it doesn’t have piglins… or even features zombie pigmen now that I think about it. Odd how they aren’t featured.
Despite its faults, this game will always have a special place in my heart. And you’ve put into words something I always felt but couldn’t describe. I also prefer things that are conceptually cool but executed less than ideally rather than something who executes well something I’ve seen already. Also, if you like Kingdom Hearts, I like you

I love it, I only played chapters 1-5 since they didn't release the rest on WiiU, Lucas's mental breakdown is a great character moment, and the funniest line in the game is about 3 seconds into chapter 3, where you have to pick the prompt "somebody say something". I know a lot of people don't like this game, but it holds a very special place in my heart. I played the Netflix version of it like 15 times over as a child without getting bored once, I'd still play it 15 times more. I know the writing and the dialogue isn't the best, but all the unique ideas it came up with while staying in the confines of vanilla Minecraft kept me super invested. The lackluster voice acting also wasn't an issue because I played it with the Turkish dub (which is admittedly better). Plus kid me had the biggest crush on Petra lmao. This game was a staple of my childhood so maybe I'm looking at it through rose coloured glasses but I just love this game so much. I will defend this game til the day I die and you bet I'll be playing the remake 30 times over when it comes out.

I actually liked it a lot and played it a few times but I just fully remembered what happens when you said portal arc now it’s all flooding back. Yeah the portals is what made me like this game so much the dimensions in Minecraft always intrigued me and they game me the aether so I was satisfied
I think the respawning rule in chapter 8 can be excused by it being a different world than the ones they've been to already. Maybe worlds without Hardcore mode rules are rarer than the ones that are Hardcore?
This series showed up in my recommended the other day, and honestly, it was really fun seeing your thoughts on Season 1. If you ever decide to change your mind and go back to do a similar series for Season 2, I'd love to see it. I have fond memories playing Season 2 and I just think the nostalgia trip would be nice. I love Minecraft Story Mode so much, it does so much with Minecraft. The talking animations are mediocre but fine. It's not top 3 telltale games but it's still great.
I don’t like it when people write off extended reviews as video essays. Video essays are usually deep dives into the themes of a specific piece of media, or they add new information about the specific thing that elevates how you view that specific thing. Hbomberguy’s videos are a prime example of this. Its a great review, but a summary with interjections with what you thought of the story isn’t necessarily a video “essay”.
I really wished you did a video essay on Season 2, like I understand the reason behind why you don’t want to do SEASON 2. But you did an amazing job on covering all of Season 1, and Season 2 incorporated a lot more stuff in the game, plus the villain in Season 2 is really interesting! I kinda want more people to give this game a lot more credit when credit is due, and plus the fact that MINECRAFT STORY MODE TURNS 10 YEARS OLD NEXT YEAR IN 2025!!!!!
I don’t care what anyone says Minecraft Story Mode is and will always be a Masterpiece. It’s the real adaptation of Minecraft and the movie is gonna suck in comparison.
Well Episode 5-8 are like a DLC, usually telltale games had 5 episodes but then they decided to add 3 extra chapters which were able to bought in a bundle called “The Adventure Pass”.
Not sure if I'm the only one aware of this annoying bug but it's happened for me too. I've only seen it happen on my PS4 pro and basically MCSM has something called chapters. Basically the major checkpoints in each episode. The glitch makes your game not save all the progress you've done in these chapters which will count as the episode not completed. If you haven't completed an episode, the game chooses choices for you as you start a new episode that comes after the episode/s that you didn't complete. These choices include the game choosing you going for Magnus in episode 2; It chooses the Dragons bane armor in episode 4; Chooses the cake in episode 4; many more The only way to fix this as from experience is to delete your game from your console completely(not your save data). If this doesn't work you can transfer your MCSM save file to a USB or your PS cloud storage(I prefer the USB but the PS Cloud can work too), then delete your save on your console's hard drive. And yeah you can re-download MCSM while you're at it along with episodes 2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8 too since they're also deleted. To find out if the glitch has ended, you can start any episode and play through the first chapter of that episode. Then exit to the main menu and go to that episode and press chapters(Triangle on PS) to see if the Chapter has saved(it won't have a key lock on it like the other uncompleted chapters). Chapter 1 of episode 1 ends when you and Petra start entering the cave for reference. I have 0 idea why this glitch happens
Well, I respect you decision of not doing a Season 2 Essay and you deep gave us some through of Season 2 of Minecraft Story Mode, but I'll be lying to say I don't want to you make a deeper analysis/essay of Minecraft Story Mode season 2, but your channel your choice, I'm just an audience who being honest to you, you can revisit it if you interested. I think Minecraft Story Mode is ok, I didn't play it personally, but it has some meta and creative ideas that help inspiriting the Minecraft Fanfic story I'm writing, so while it's not perfect, it is inspiring, and I think this is good enough.

You should play some other Telltale games. I feel like a lot of what you enjoy here was done a lot better in the rest of their library. There was a recent remaster of Sam and Max: The Devils Playhouse, which is one of their finest.
If you didn’t like the action sequences very much I’d do another play through and just ignore QTE’s, I think you’d be astounded how frequently they don’t actually kill you (though the sequence you went in on with the horses are a big exception)

I think the respawning rule in chapter 8 can be excused by it being a different world than the ones they've been to already. Maybe worlds without Hardcore mode rules are rarer than the ones that are Hardcore?
This series showed up in my recommended the other day, and honestly, it was really fun seeing your thoughts on Season 1. If you ever decide to change your mind and go back to do a similar series for Season 2, I'd love to see it. I have fond memories playing Season 2 and I just think the nostalgia trip would be nice. If you really wanna be done with this all though, I think I'll be satisfied with just that bit at the end talking about Season 2.

I love Minecraft Story Mode so much, it does so much with Minecraft. The talking animations are mediocre but fine. It's not top 3 telltale games but it's still great.
I don’t like it when people write off extended reviews as video essays. Video essays are usually deep dives into the themes of a specific piece of media, or they add new information about the specific thing that elevates how you view that specific thing. Hbomberguy’s videos are a prime example of this.
Its a great review, but a summary with interjections with what you thought of the story isn’t necessarily a video “essay”.

I really wished you did a video essay on Season 2, like I understand the reason behind why you don’t want to do SEASON 2. But you did an amazing job on covering all of Season 1, and Season 2 incorporated a lot more stuff in the game, plus the villain in Season 2 is really interesting! I kinda want more people to give this game a lot more credit when credit is due, and plus the fact that MINECRAFT STORY MODE TURNS 10 YEARS OLD NEXT YEAR IN 2025!!!!!
I don’t care what anyone says Minecraft Story Mode is and will always be a Masterpiece. It’s the real adaptation of Minecraft and the movie is gonna suck in comparison.

Well Episode 5-8 are like a DLC, usually telltale games had 5 episodes but then they decided to add 3 extra chapters which were able to bought in a bundle called “The Adventure Pass”.
Not sure if I'm the only one aware of this annoying bug but it's happened for me too. I've only seen it happen on my PS4 pro and basically MCSM has something called chapters. Basically the major checkpoints in each episode.
The glitch makes your game not save all the progress you've done in these chapters which will count as the episode not completed.
If you haven't completed an episode, the game chooses choices for you as you start a new episode that comes after the episode/s that you didn't complete.
These choices include the game choosing you going for Magnus in episode 2; It chooses the Dragons bane armor in episode 4; Chooses the cake in episode 4; many more
The only way to fix this as from experience is to delete your game from your console completely(not your save data). If this doesn't work you can transfer your MCSM save file to a USB or your PS cloud storage(I prefer the USB but the PS Cloud can work too), then delete your save on your console's hard drive. And yeah you can re-download MCSM while you're at it along with episodes 2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8 too since they're also deleted.
To find out if the glitch has ended, you can start any episode and play through the first chapter of that episode. Then exit to the main menu and go to that episode and press chapters(Triangle on PS) to see if the Chapter has saved(it won't have a key lock on it like the other uncompleted chapters). Chapter 1 of episode 1 ends when you and Petra start entering the cave for reference.

Well, I respect you decision of not doing a Season 2 Essay and you deep gave us some through of Season 2 of Minecraft Story Mode, but I'll be lying to say I don't want to you make a deeper analysis/essay of Minecraft Story Mode season 2, but your channel your choice, I'm just an audience who being honest to you, you can revisit it if you interested. I think Minecraft Story Mode is ok, I didn't play it personally, but it has some meta and creative ideas that help inspiriting the Minecraft Fanfic story I'm writing, so while it's not perfect, it is inspiring, and I think this is good enough.
I would absolutely love to hear your thoughts about season 2!

You should play some other Telltale games. I feel like a lot of what you enjoy here was done a lot better in the rest of their library. There was a recent remaster of Sam and Max: The Devils Playhouse, which is one of their finest.

If you didn’t like the action sequences very much I’d do another play through and just ignore QTE’s, I think you’d be astounded how frequently they don’t actually kill you (though the sequence you went in on with the horses are a big exception)
