"Open relationship" is Tom's trigger word
Didn’t realize that!!! Off course Tom got more irrational
@@pioroa irrational to dislike “open relations”? Or irrational to vigorously acting on his beliefs in a cooperate settiing
that's what i love most about the scene, you can see that it's basically the moment when he finally loses it
@@merr5593 assaulting people with water bottles is clearly irrational
@@phosphenevision Yeah I see what you are saying now
I love how in every instance throughout the show whenever Greg is Blackmailing another family member they are never upset - rather slightly happy and impressed that their minion is learning!
Exactly!
They're all psychopaths that's why
the ironic thing of course is that greg is so much better at manipulating people than all of the other family members. For sheer guile, he's up there with Martha!
@@hiadrianbankhead how????

You can’t make a Tomlette without breaking some Gregs.
No.
No, you can't.
Very wise.
Haha this comment is on every video with him hahahahah
You can't make a Tomelette without breaking some Greggs
I remember watching this the first time and when Greg said "it's like a business open relationship . . . " I was like "oooooooohhhh, noooooooo, that's the worst analogy to use at Tom right now!"
It wasn't until you just mentioned this , I get it. I forgot about he and his wife.
Yesss..omg
Yes! Caught it on the rewatch
🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂 yessss.
'Very well, I accept your blackmail' is one of the greatest lines ever written.
hahahha.. that's what makes this show so epic
Second only to “you can’t make a tomlette without breaking some greggs”
🤣🤣🤣
It was the happiest Tom has ever been when Gregg played that card.
I just observe. I'm a UN White Helmet, OK guys.
"THIS IS EXECUTIVE LEVEL BUSINESS!!" *proceeds to physically assault Greg*
You can't make a Tomelette without breaking some Greggs
haha good ol' tom and his shenanigans
That part got me😂
Well that's perfectly in line with Roy family executive practice
the tom/greg dynamic is one of the best parts of the show, so brilliant
Agreed
Is it???
you can cut the sexual tension between them with a knife
the only thing good ... the rest is bs.
Work spouses!
"A small person can fit through there...an attack child!" Greg is the best character on the show.
Seriously his lines are so perfect, and Braun plays him perfectly. The actors are allowed to improv quite a bit, so "attack child" might have been his idea.
One of my favorite Greg moments is when he was being questioned by Congress. "If it is to be said, then so it be- so it is."
that was sooooo funny 😭
The “I’ll never tell” makes me laugh every time.
Love characters that are more clever than they appear
tom really thought he could trick him there
@@combat_chameleonhe tells him later in the episode
I know it’s winning awards, but Succession is still criminally underrated
Deserves the same hype that Game of Thrones got.
@@definitelynottommywiseau3037 it’s way better
It's more underwatched or whatever word
@@sssdctn4009 Or less overwatched
@@Borganov20 true. Never understood the hype about GoT. Nakedness and blood. Wow so original
I loved this scene so much. Poor Greg just happened to walk right into Tom's marriage angst. That moment when you realize Tom is actually yelling at Shiv, not Greg. Chef kiss. Amazing scene.
Kind of surprised that Nicolas didn't bring up the real reason Tom is hurt. That's literally the entire point of the scene. Does Nicolas himself not know what the scene is actually about?
@@alexk3352 i think this is a good interpretation, but i don't think it was necessarily an outright deflection. It could've just been a parallel situation but with different power dynamics allowing Tom to vent his frustration.
@@alexk3352nick wasn’t acting when he was playing Greg, in fact greg may be smarter than Braun
Greg's "Ill never tell" was so well delivered. Hilarious.
When he says “how is this safe, it’s just a room” is the best acting moment in the show
It took me a second watch of Succession to really see how this scene mirrors Tom's loss of control in his relationship with Shiv, and that his whole relationship with Greg provides him a sense of control that he's lacking in all other social aspects of his life. The wedding episode was one of the best (so far) because we saw a small part of Tom's world (his parents). To see the contrast between them and the Roy parents was astounding. Even in the wedding toast, comparing Shiv's to Tom's, it's unbelievable how cynical, cruel, and domineering the Roys really are.
Wait I don't remember seeing his parents
oh for sure. you can see when greg said it'd be like a business open relationship, that's when it went sour for tom. wrong way to phrase it lol.
@@lola_daytona You could see his parents when the bus arrived. He greeted his parents and his mom asked for a glass of water. Tom was then very upset because he had to carry his moms luggage, because the bus couldn't get close enough to the venue. I think that's also the scene where his parents mentioned that they paid for the wine, not sure though.
@@jonas_security_kolinski yea and then it’s a bit of a gag with shivs mom that they’re telling everyone at the wedding that they paid for the wine
I’m on my second watch and there are a lot of things I’m noticing that I didn’t notice the first time. I loved it so much that I started watching it again it immediately after watching the last episode. Was blown away.
"This is not...a good...feeling, that you're making me have"
*Basically Tom in a nutshell*
i dont think i will never not see a succession video that doesn't have a "can't make a tomlette without breaking some greggs" thats just how the world works now
I think "If it is to be said... so it is" should be the new "Connor Roy was interested in politics from a very young age". Though I still love seeing the Connor one pop up in random places.
The chemistry between Tom and Greg is just unmatched
God bless the intern who suggested Nick analyze this scene
Maybe it’s the director or it’s a collective decision of a team , it’s not like only the intern actually watched the show
I love that Greg chose THAT MOMENT to try and breakup. The most stressful situation ever. HAHAHAHA
Matthew McFadyen is just a 100% superb actor.
@@tobiasnilsson7493he’s actually the one actor in this show that is nothing like his character
Oh I Mean't Greg haha
it's so funny because as nicholas is watching the scene, you can kind of see him feel the scene again, and act it out a bit. it's subtle but it's there with the expressions he makes
like around 1:21
I thought the same thing every time he was watching himself
I've watched this scene a million times, and yet that random "STOP. CRUNCHING" lines from Tom never failed to cracks me up 🤣
As someone with misophonia, I so badly want to record that moment so I can play it back to the people who set my teeth on edge when they eat near me
I love how happy Tom looks when he is getting blackmailed
it’s one of the funniest scene’s of the whole series
Hes impressed with Greg but i think its also cus he gets to "keep" him
“the bottles were fine, I could have taken a lot of bottles”
That line is as Gregg as it gets…
Looking for this😂
The bottles were all aimed at the floor, so he's really only getting some rebound. Otherwise he'd be properly injured from repeated hits with 250g projectiles.
I can't imagine anyone else playing this character. 'Greg acting awkwardly' compilations are my favourite. The funniest egg
michael cera?
@@JSON_bourne doesnt feel like that would be a great fit. He would need too much screen time and just prolly wouldnt do as good a job as feeling like a nobody as Greg does. Nicholas Braun was amazing casting.
They essentially found a real life greg
Greg's "I'll never tell" is the funniest part to me haha
the breakup analogy is extremely apt considering how obsessed Tom is with Greg. It's a total crush.
I think Tom and Greg are the best part of Succession, I CANNOT get enough of them
Love the way Tom says WHAT leverage Greg .? 😂😂
The Disgusting Brothers
and that should say a lot about how average this show actually is.
A business “open relationship” ties in the emotions Tom has felt towards shiv, because that’s exactly what she wanted on their wedding night. A lot of toms anger directed at Greg is really him projecting about his wife
Well, you made me like this scene even more, thanks!
Yesss I was thinking exactly this watching this scene and hearing Greg say ‘open relationship’. I was like oh no
this is exactly what i thought. it opened a wound for Tom that hadnt even really begun to heal yet and he couldnt process the fact another person he trusts (in his own way) would come to this same conclusion about their relationship with him (even if its just business).
I love how the only few moments in the entire show where Cousin Greg is actually praised by a Roy is when he blackmails them (Kendall also praises him back in season 1).
"he just can't keep his hands off me in general........it's fun"
Nicholas Braun is so unbelievably funny (and handsome) I'm obsessed. Full blown obsessed.
He’s not handsome but he’s tall 🤤
Greg has NO IDEA how deeply he cut Tom by using the analogy of an open relationship
I love how the words "Open relationship" rip open another wound in Tom, which leads him to lash out. Brilliant writing.
thank you british gq for providing us with the content we want & deserve
You are so welcome
That's what they're known for.
lets fu
i refuse to believe the part at 5:54 is Nicholas Braun talking. he slipped into character and Greg took over his body for a full minute there
He said in real life mathew is rude to him, but was that sarcasm or that is how Nicholas feels
@@TheHarshil I’m confused too, I really need to solve this doubt.
I was wondering that too. I was like, did he just say his co-star bullied him openly? Like it was not a big deal.
It was obviously perfectly executed sarcasm
I disagree, the Greg character IS the actors personality
Funny how when Tom finally says to Shiv that he doesn't want an open-relstionship Shiv also says: "It was just an idea" like Greg says here when he sees Tom getting angry 😄
The water bottle scene is like a hilariously pathetic version of the bowling scene in There Will Be Blood
Yes mate well recommended
LOL exactly. He even kinda looks like Paul Dano.
The Paul Dano to Nicholas Braun pipeline is very real
@@404errorusernotfound very real indeed
What I came here to say. Excellent!
I binged this over the last week and finished yesterday. This is the best show ever.
It’s a masterpiece
Same. That last scene of the final episode of the most recent season. I am shook!!
I just discovered this show and am currently bingeing as I type.
Same.. I did it in less than a week. I think I'm going to just rewatch it because I have 7 weeks or so tell season 3 finishes up
Greg is all of us as we watch this show. He entered the show and the family at the same time we did (started watching) and has been hanging out, observing and participating in his own way for the entire series.
I think this is a good moment to remind people that, Conner Roy was interested in politics from a very young age
I don't know why, but watching him laugh at his own performance is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
Matthew MacFayden is honestly a treasure and whoever casted him deserves a raise!
I remember watching Nicholas on a few Disney Channel movies as a young kid. I’m so glad he’s getting the success that he’s getting because I always thought he was hilarious. He just has a natural charisma.
"Are you _asking_ if you can blackmail me?" was seriously one of the best things I've ever seen
"It's such a stressful scene... but it's so funny" pretty much sums up the entire show.
he was my fav in Sky High, too. he played the glowstick kid
He's played a teenager for forever 😂
“Do I wanna maybe catch some sunlight if I’m gonna grow” always cracks me up 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Tom completely unable to express how he feels when Shiv suggests an open relationship, then unleashing it all on Greg instead. Classic.
He is the best succession character hands down! Every scene he is in is perfect!
Hope Greg takes over with his awkward mannerisms. Can't wait
I hope he keeps em lol
Tom has such Michael Scott vibes ngl
I don't why but Greg reminds me of Gabe so much
@@tvojeprezuvky omg, yes. Both are physically similar, have soft demeanor and are seen in somebody's shadow.
Its sorta like a ryan and michael relationship if we’re taking aspects from the office
I love how this show portrays this billionaire family, how everyone is basically living a mutual but separate nightmare
That scene is literally a piece of art from beginning to end. As is most of the scenes on Succession.
4:23 love watching him chuckle because you know he's remembering a funny, crazy day.
7:30 hearing him talk about how Greg is slowly becoming more influenced to "the darkness" just by being in proximity to the Roys is also shown by his hair. He started off with a mop and now in season 4 he's got the same expensive haircut everyone at ATN has.
He’s so tall I love him
Great to see Matthew macfadyen getting some success over in the states. He really is one of our finest actors
2:58 This is the nail in the coffin for Tom. He was devestated by Shivs open relationship idea. Then Greg proposes the exact same idea... It's a very good line that signifies Tom's fear of abandonment.
It’s not about abandonment; it’s about control. He doesn’t want to lose control over them.
"I will not let go of what is mine!" ... he owns Greg
this was such a great scene but particularly because of how tom treats his relationship with greg in conjunction with his relationship with shiv- he projects onto this dynamic a lot and acts with greg how he feels with shiv, it's so fascinating to see
Love that this scene had so much to do with Tom’s relationship with Siobhan 😭
nicholas braun.... ur EVERYTHING TO ME
"This is executive level business" lol
Hearing that Matthew bullies Nicholas in real life is so funny to me. Like they are literally the same as their characters and have the same dynamic in real life lol
I think he was joking, Matt seems like the exact opposite of Tom in every way!
Um yeah, it’s clearly a joke…
Wow this Gregory guy is good at playing Nicholas Braun.
For me, really, the main reason Tom gets so mad is because the situation mirrors his relationship with Shiv exactly. With Shiv he probably feels like he loves her too much or is too afraid of losing her to get mad at her even though he doesn't like the situation. But when it happens with Greg too it builds upon that and now he's losing both relationships and he takes the combined anger out on Greg because he has more power in the relationship and can do that.
"Business open relationship" is definitely the ignitor. It reminds Tom of his inferiority in the relationship with shiv.
From the moment Greg's mom called him and told him to go work for Logan I knew his arc would be that he'd climb to the top, probably by the end of the last season. I guarantee this is the arc and it should be great.
I did this to my dad....with McDonald's french fries. He picked me up from the hospital after I was sexually assaulted and took me to get some "food". When he asked me what I was wearing the night before I chucked the entire container of french fries at him and the drive-thru lady got smacked with one, poor thing.
That is not a comparison?
May every actor find a role like Greg which requires that they not act, and just be their true selves
9:49 when Greg says "I'll never tell", and with that intonation, please please tell me he's channelling fellow NYC icon, Gossip Girl!!
I love when the Roy family praises Greg for his exploits. When Ken called Greg a “Machiavellian f***” on S01 EP10 it was so funny 😂
Tom is so excited when Greg’s Royness shines through hahaha
i really enjoyed listening to him talk about zola. he clearly has so much respect for the work and everyone he worked with. of course he does wish succession but he clearly finds derek much more sad and helpless than greg, who is smarter than he appears at first glance
I cackled at the screen shot of Tom throwing a water bottle at Cousin Greg. Never not funny but as a freeze frame it is 🤣🤣🤣
I can’t believe Tom Wamsgams is also Mr. Darcy.
This show is the one of the best shows ever made..
And these two guys are one of the best parts of the show.
This one of the best scenes in the show!! Amazing acting!
the tomgreg dynamic is a national treasure
Omg GQ this is the most excited I’ve been on RUclips in a while! Love this content
starting succession is the best thing i did this summer
Such surreal moments in this show, it’s wonderfully written, brilliantly acted almost every scene is a master class. Honestly I can’t praise them enough it’s amazing drama, with so many subtle nods to power, society a constant critique of everything’s that’s wrong in our society but delivered with humour via characters like Greg, Roman and Tom.
I’m currently patiently waiting so that I can binge series 3 at Xmas!
Greatest show ever! And the dynamic between these 2 have a big part in that.
Love his analysis, bringing out more than I'd realized about the characters
Matthew Macfadyen is everything:)
Mr. Darcy gone crazy 😆
I haven’t seen this guy in anything else except “The Watch” and he plays such a different character it’s crazy. He plays Greg so well!
Throughout the show, Greg was like this giant puppy that I wanted to protect
This show is genuinely one of the funniest shows on television, like, the Tom and Greg dynamic? Iconic. They are the moment.
Is that a bathrobe that Nicholas has on ? 😂
Don’t we all need a movie with Nicholas Braun and Michael Cera ?
YES OMFG I NEED THIS SO BAD
Tom and Greg is the true love story in Succession…they are so dynamic together
This is one of the few shows that I LOVE every episode it's so funny so dramatic so good! I wish they made for ep instead of just 10 but still. my favorite show so far
the way he talked about his relationship with matthew in real life really makes it sound like they have the same relationship as greg and tom irl
In the pics on set he always put his arms around Matt. So adorable
He’s joking.
legend. can’t wait to see him in more stuff!
I don't know what's going on in those clips but nicholas braun best actor
From the moment Greg egg appeared it has been my hope that Greg was REALLY working for his grandfather to take over and undo the evil that is Waystar Royco.
This video is brilliant. Tom and Greg’s relationship is my favourite part of the show. Does anywhere know where Nicholas got that sweater? (Edit: it’s a Greg Lauren striped denim trim jacket)
😬
There are scenes that are just so hilarious in the series, it comes so subtle yet alarmingly funny.
In a show full of so many varied and amazing performances, Nicholas Braun is easily the most impressive.
It says a lot that despite arguably being the most ridiculous character on the show, Greg feels the most real because of Braun’s dedication to the subtleties of his performance. Like, hearing the actor talk confidently without the stuttering and overly complicated words feels like whiplash considering how realistic Greg felt.
I love him!! he is so funny. Cousin Greg has got to be one of my favorite characters of all time
