I love how in every instance throughout the show whenever Greg is Blackmailing another family member they are never upset - rather slightly happy and impressed that their minion is learning!
the ironic thing of course is that greg is so much better at manipulating people than all of the other family members. For sheer guile, he's up there with Martha!
I remember watching this the first time and when Greg said "it's like a business open relationship . . . " I was like "oooooooohhhh, noooooooo, that's the worst analogy to use at Tom right now!"
Seriously his lines are so perfect, and Braun plays him perfectly. The actors are allowed to improv quite a bit, so "attack child" might have been his idea. One of my favorite Greg moments is when he was being questioned by Congress. "If it is to be said, then so it be- so it is."
It took me a second watch of Succession to really see how this scene mirrors Tom's loss of control in his relationship with Shiv, and that his whole relationship with Greg provides him a sense of control that he's lacking in all other social aspects of his life. The wedding episode was one of the best (so far) because we saw a small part of Tom's world (his parents). To see the contrast between them and the Roy parents was astounding. Even in the wedding toast, comparing Shiv's to Tom's, it's unbelievable how cynical, cruel, and domineering the Roys really are.
@@lola_daytona You could see his parents when the bus arrived. He greeted his parents and his mom asked for a glass of water. Tom was then very upset because he had to carry his moms luggage, because the bus couldn't get close enough to the venue. I think that's also the scene where his parents mentioned that they paid for the wine, not sure though.
I’m on my second watch and there are a lot of things I’m noticing that I didn’t notice the first time. I loved it so much that I started watching it again it immediately after watching the last episode. Was blown away.
i dont think i will never not see a succession video that doesn't have a "can't make a tomlette without breaking some greggs" thats just how the world works now
I think "If it is to be said... so it is" should be the new "Connor Roy was interested in politics from a very young age". Though I still love seeing the Connor one pop up in random places.
I loved this scene so much. Poor Greg just happened to walk right into Tom's marriage angst. That moment when you realize Tom is actually yelling at Shiv, not Greg. Chef kiss. Amazing scene.
Kind of surprised that Nicolas didn't bring up the real reason Tom is hurt. That's literally the entire point of the scene. Does Nicolas himself not know what the scene is actually about?
@@alexk3352 i think this is a good interpretation, but i don't think it was necessarily an outright deflection. It could've just been a parallel situation but with different power dynamics allowing Tom to vent his frustration.
it's so funny because as nicholas is watching the scene, you can kind of see him feel the scene again, and act it out a bit. it's subtle but it's there with the expressions he makes
@@JSON_bourne doesnt feel like that would be a great fit. He would need too much screen time and just prolly wouldnt do as good a job as feeling like a nobody as Greg does. Nicholas Braun was amazing casting.
I love how the only few moments in the entire show where Cousin Greg is actually praised by a Roy is when he blackmails them (Kendall also praises him back in season 1).
A business “open relationship” ties in the emotions Tom has felt towards shiv, because that’s exactly what she wanted on their wedding night. A lot of toms anger directed at Greg is really him projecting about his wife
this is exactly what i thought. it opened a wound for Tom that hadnt even really begun to heal yet and he couldnt process the fact another person he trusts (in his own way) would come to this same conclusion about their relationship with him (even if its just business).
Greg is all of us as we watch this show. He entered the show and the family at the same time we did (started watching) and has been hanging out, observing and participating in his own way for the entire series.
The bottles were all aimed at the floor, so he's really only getting some rebound. Otherwise he'd be properly injured from repeated hits with 250g projectiles.
I remember watching Nicholas on a few Disney Channel movies as a young kid. I’m so glad he’s getting the success that he’s getting because I always thought he was hilarious. He just has a natural charisma.
Funny how when Tom finally says to Shiv that he doesn't want an open-relstionship Shiv also says: "It was just an idea" like Greg says here when he sees Tom getting angry 😄
7:30 hearing him talk about how Greg is slowly becoming more influenced to "the darkness" just by being in proximity to the Roys is also shown by his hair. He started off with a mop and now in season 4 he's got the same expensive haircut everyone at ATN has.
this was such a great scene but particularly because of how tom treats his relationship with greg in conjunction with his relationship with shiv- he projects onto this dynamic a lot and acts with greg how he feels with shiv, it's so fascinating to see
From the moment Greg's mom called him and told him to go work for Logan I knew his arc would be that he'd climb to the top, probably by the end of the last season. I guarantee this is the arc and it should be great.
Such surreal moments in this show, it’s wonderfully written, brilliantly acted almost every scene is a master class. For me, really, the main reason Tom gets so mad is because the situation mirrors his relationship with Shiv exactly. With Shiv he probably feels like he loves her too much or is too afraid of losing her to get mad at her even though he doesn't like the situation. But when it happens with Greg too it builds upon that and now he's losing both relationships and he takes the combined anger out on Greg because he has more power in the relationship and can do that.
i really enjoyed listening to him talk about zola. he clearly has so much respect for the work and everyone he worked with. of course he does wish succession but he clearly finds derek much more sad and helpless than greg, who is smarter than he appears at first glance
I did this to my dad....with McDonald's french fries. He picked me up from the hospital after I was sexually assaulted and took me to get some "food".
