Purchased a used 13’ GX two years ago. I couldn’t be happier! I’ve owned a ml350, grand Cherokee wk2, Lexus RX and the GX is on a totally higher level all around.
Honestly, the fact that it is dated and missing a lot of the modern technology is one of the biggest selling points for me. I absolutely don't need any technology into my cars. My daily commuter doesn't even have ABS or airbags. So, it's reassuring that some companies are still making old school vehicles that last, instead of the crap of today.
I have 2017 w/luxury/assist/tow packages. I have owned nearly 50 cars in my 57 years of age, and this is the ONE. We love it for hauling, towing, long distance, snow, etc. It is the swiss army knife of SUVs. Not too big to get in its own way, but just the right size and very utilitarian. My wife has RX *our 3rd one!), my daughter has IS, and I have owned both GS (I had 2) and LS sedans. Lexus can't be beat for pure luxury and reliability. But the GX is the best all-arounder for me. I swear it is quieter than my $100K+ LS 460L and the ML sound system easily beats the ML in the LS. 24" of snow, no sweat (and I put Blizzak snows on all my cars, includign GX). Dead quiet and smooth on road trips (again, IMHO better than the LS sedan. Interior wears like iron. Only nit is that mpg is really, really bad, so as a bugout vehicle you won't get very far without lots of gas stations on the way out! LOL. My favorite characteristic is that I can hit Ohio potholes and not worry about blowouts (unlike my daughters IS with low profile tires).
Haha, love the bit with the Super Nintendo. As for the GX460, there's something so comforting knowing that this vehicle will last forever. Due to it being out for such a long time, I'm sure that they've worked out all of the issues.
Till your head unit goes bad and you cant contol the heat 😂 . It is the oldest new vehicle you can buy so i do like it better than most of the new junk
Oddly, I think the steering feel is fine, and my other car is a Lotus. It’s still hydraulic and has enough feel for what it is. Also, the adaptive KDSS means that it has pretty minimal body roll at speed for such a massive vehicle. I don’t find the steering bus like.
Trust me guys I have owned g wagon for years I did like it but gx o my gosh I luv it what ever the internet says I just luv it , u name the place it just don’t care to take u and get u homes safely
I love this GX! Toyota or Lexus have always kept a classic principle in their cars: reliability, and that's why they love Lexus and Toyota. Many may say that this GX is outdated, but for them Tesla was invented, with a lot of technologies that in 10 years will only cause problems. This GX is for those who appreciate simple, classic and reliable things.🛣😀
When is an outdate car refreshing, and when is it a headache...this car plays that fine line. Incredibly frustrating that they didnt update the touchscreen at least! Love the video as always!
This video is well done. Appreciate you treating the vehicle like it would be used by most. Tedward, your videos are all genuine and I can tell you are making the content because you want to. Comes off very likeable and it encourages me to stay engaged. Just want to say thanks!
Cassette tapes ruled!!! They were sturdy and built to last, unlike CD’s which can easily scratch.. I still have a cassette player in my 2003 Toyota Camry V6, which BTW has 248,000 trouble free miles.. Toyota’s are built to last and I’m sure I’m a customer for life!!!
Tedward Looking forward to it - always willing to pick a friend up from Logan at like 2 am if it means tearing down storrow drive - but just kidding man😂😂 love the content so far and can’t wait for more to come
I also own a 2020 GX460 and let me tell you i love the thing i honestly think that its one of the best suvs outthere about the infotaiment its so easy to use i think it lacks on the apple car play which i personatly dont mind also amazing quality materials and rides like a dream i got a premium one with regular suspension cause for me air ride its cool but to expensive if it breaks
Seriously one of the only SUVs I’d consider owner because of its capability and reliability. It’s fun to have all the toys in more modern vehicles but I don’t want to pay when they break 😂
Have a 2017. Will never leave me on the side of the road. Only tech I need is blue tooth. I’d only get rid of it for another GX during its last year of production before they remove the naturally aspirated V8 which is happening at some point.
So this is Lexus, they don’t make cars drive fast like BMW or comfortable like Bentley. It is a Toyota and it last forever. People owned them since 90s.
So one reason why we got the Gx over the LX is the fact that the Gx has a fully fold flat third row. The Lx folds to the side and takes up a awful amount of space. I prob would have looked for a LX if that one feature was different.
Tedward, were those burnout marks from you during that breaking test? lol. On a more serious note, you can actually buy a used city bus for super cheap. A couple grand can get you one, and all you need is a CDL. Cheaper than most used cars out there.
It's funny, i watched all these videos and 4 months ago picked up a cpo 2018 with 52k on it. It's been in the shop more than the rubicon and f150 it replaced. It's the last Toyota product i will ever buy. The issue is that the cpo means nothing, because without codes they can't fix the issues.. It's all over the place on the highway, my rubicon was more reliable and drove better.. It's a super disappointment, i purchased it from a country dealership with no highway around, but noticed it immediately when i hit the highway on the way home from purchasing it.. When it required white knuckle driving to keep it in the lane..
Hi there. With not impressive brake shaking on model 2020 so what the last couple yr models is there any brake issues like this model Sir looks scary though. I am looking for one around 2017. Thks
These things will last forever but they have two quirks that annoy the $&?@ out of me. 1. The steering wheel pulls to the left while going straight and if the road is even slightly at an angle the wheel will slump to the direction of the angle even when you’re going perfectly straight. I’ve had mine in the shop more times than I can count for this, and no one can figure it out. I think it’s just a sloppy steering system, that was pointed out when you did the panic stops and the steering wheel jerked left and right. I can already tell the brand new one you’re driving might be doing this as the wheel seems slumped off to the left when you appear to be going straight. 2. The brakes seem to suck. I bought a 2016 GX with 25,000 miles on it, one owner, all service done at the dealer, and I noticed the steering wheel would shake and vibrate under braking above 60 mph. Turns out all 4 rotors were warped. Took it to the dealer where they replaced 4 rotors plus rear control arms which completely solves the issue. The day I took it to get the rotors replaced the mechanic commented “man you must have been driving like hell to make your appointment because those rotors were HOT”.... I literally could not have been driving slower that day because I knew the rotors were warped... All in all I guess these are not major problems but it’s very annoying considering I bought this thing based on Lexus’ reputation for perfection and attention to detail. It’s just sloppy.
I wouldn't look at any GX, this whole sub-segment doesn't make sense to me. I just don't see how luxury and off-roading go together. f I had to have an upscale SUV/Crossover I'd look at the Lincoln Aviator. It's on a unibody RWD platform so there's not much pretense of off-roading but I think it would do the on-road stuff so much better.
It's so odd that this is "Luxury" because it really isn't. It has some luxury features like leather, sat nav, heated/cooled seats, but underneath its purpose built for hitting a trail with confidence.
This vehicle sells the best in developing countries with poor road infrastructure, it's a very niche product in the US market. I'm unaware of any direct competitors to the GX that have the same off-road capability
Why do these reveiwers expect a 6000 pound boat body on frame solid rear axle suv to handle like a sports car? Lol your buy int it for a old pos without fixing youe woenout pos you already drive 😂
