Man I've tried to get this thing off so many times without success. Thank you so much for giving a tip. I've looked before and wasn't able to find a video where the creator didn't stop the recording and start back after they got it off with a "good luck" you rock
He’s doing it the hard way. ***Take a Hex key (L shaped) stick in the side where you pulled cap cover off and pull up plate. It should slide right up. Let me know if it works.
I have replaced the agitator part 3 years ago, and I have to again now in 2023. I have a whirlpool, same design, and I’m trying to figure out how to keep it from stripping the metal out of the agitator. My wife and I discovered we would have been better off with an actual agitator and not the impeller type, we need that more aggressive agitator for our work and day to day clothes.
When using a shoestring, be sure you don't pull it too far to one side. If you do, it ends up wedged under the spindle nut and you're never going to be successful if that happens. That's likely why people are breaking the shoestring. That's what I did. And of course this method failed me because of this error. Initially I thought I needed more uuummmph on the shoestring, so I decided to grab my harbor freight gloves that have a rubberized coating on them, to wrap the shoestring around my fingers to assist in pulling up. That failed. Then for some reason I grabbed two of the fins and accidentally, very easily pulled the wash plate straight up. I paused for a second when it lifted out and thought... you big dummy lol. I think by reading about🎉 the problems people had, I was expecting for it to be very difficult, so I didn't start with the easiest method. So don't be like me... try the easier, less forceful way first. 😂
sept 15, 2024,4:15 pm after i watch your video i use your method and it's really works i also used 6 liter's of hot water let it soak for 30 minutes then pulled it by shoelace dammn it works thank you.
Thank you so much for this video. It's EXACTLY wjat I needed and it WORKED LIKE A CHARM; no problems, no snags; just unscrewed it, EASILY passed the (flat) shoe lace pulled it up and VOILA! Truly and sicerely (yes, I know it's heavy talk 😂) - thank you!
Thanks so much for this video, had to use two shoelaces but it pried it off. Turns out there were two coins stuck inside that kept the washer from working, making grinding sounds. Works great now!
My wife heard a strange new sound in our clothes washer, so I decided to fix it! I followed your instructions for removing the wash plate- it took using the shoe string method. I found a dime wedged on there. Simple fix! Thank you!
The way we do it is , 2 vise grips and 2 Allen wrenches insert the bent end of the Allen wrench into one of the holes directly apart from each other and clamp the vise grip to the straight end of the wrench and pull up. works every time,, I do like your shoelace method also
How did you fix the plate to start agitating again? I think a screw or something is stripped or worn but not sure how to figure out. Researching at the moment hope you can help
I used this video for my LG washer and the same principles applied. That shoe string trick was magic! Thank you so much! My washer cap thing had tabs to unclip so it was pretty easy after watching this.
Get some PB Blaster and give it 2 good shots, let stand for 5mins and repeat. The bolt screws into the end of the transmission shaft For the wash plate removal I used 2 cotter key removal tools, AKA hook tools for us autoglass folks, and pushed into the holes on opposite sides and gently pull up while vigorously moving the plate back and forth. Popped right out. I think it worked because the splines were not exactly aligned, as one side was almost smooth, with the splines on the transmission shaft.
I bent two big zip ties and pushed them in one hole and they popped out another. Connect zip tie to itself creating an easy loop to hold onto and pull.
The bolt is screened on tight! How do you remove it? I have a 3/8 impact wrench with the matching 7/16 impact cup but what winds up happening is that happens is the cup just wobbles around the bolt head!
Hi.. I hope you are still monitoring your posting. Two years later i am running into the the washing plate screw is coming lose. Hence, the motor is turning, but not the plate. I guess i will have to remove it to diagnose further, huh? What do you think this could be?
I've done everything imaginable. I've even fished aircraft cable all around it and attached it to a 2X4 with ratchet straps and still no luck. I'm pretty sure the 2X4 would have snapped first.
I worked a coat hanger under the plate, it still wouldn’t budge. My son was lifting the whole machine up when pulling on it, wouldn’t come apart. We tapped on the center too, no good. I saw another video that they destroyed the wash plate, then used a gear puller on the remaining metal piece that was still rusted to the splined shaft. I’m thinking I’m going to have to do that, I ordered a wash plate already.
Hi I am using a Defy twin tub for my laundry and washing plate was stuck not rotating and I removed the screw on the centre and pull out the washing plate .Then I put back the washing plate and put water in the machine now the plate rotate and float on the water ,please help how do I make the plate not to come out or float
Is this the only area with this particular washer needing an extra deep clean.. I’ve seen washers with that dispenser filter/drain in the back is that necessary with this model? Thx
I've tried every trick in the book including this one to get mine off and still nothing. Even tried citric acid and lime away. I've been trying for a good couple of months and this thing is still stuck!!!!
My Maytag seems to have a great design that doesn't allow coins to fall below the wash plate. I noticed a penny fall in the gap at the bottom of the tub and worried that I might have to remove the plate. Then found several more coins stuck in the gap. I got all but one out using a wire but a dime wouldn't come out. Tried a shop vac, and magic. Sucked that coin right out of there. Glad I could get them out but there is no guarantee that none have fallen below in the past.
The real easy way is take the bolt out , select normal wash , turn it on and go for lunch . The motion of the water in the wash cycle will break the plate free.
@@apretrogaming1041put the socket wrench near one of the blades and squeeze them together. I also tried using the wrench to spin it clockwise and then go in the other direction quickly, but that didn't work but may have loosened it.
The shoelace did the trick, to remove that plate but afterwards when screwing it back on the screw snapped in half.... no solution there, time for a new washer.

hi can the plastic waser inside wash plate be fix or do i replace the wash plate mine is like turning but grinding and i see the plasic waser in is warnout no more treads
my washing machine has a problem where the screw in the middle keeps coming loose after every wash. I tried tightening it up with impact screwdriver and also used some locktite with no luck. Any suggestions??
After I took the screw off of mine, I had no idea what I was doing wrong. There was a piece of cloth under neath the plate and just how u did with the string, I grabbed one of the straps and pulled it up in the same way. I was pulling on it earlier but thought it was latched on something and I didn't want to break it. Your video helped me. Yayyyyy
I can do that, I need to know how to change the metal gear thing that turns the dogs to agitate it. Please help this is the second wash plate I've change each one only lasted 6 months and the dogs are all stripped down n smooth.
Your idea seemed great. I even used a stronger rope but the rope broke on me. I've got the bolt out. Is there anything else that could be holding it down?
We cannot get ours off either, what is holding down this plate? Did you ever remove it and how. I would sincerely appreciate any information that could help us. Thanks
Do you think a ring (my wedding ring) can get into it? I lost it but I don’t know if it’s worth it to remove the plate or there isn’t a chance for a ring to slide into it? Thanks
I have a question; I have the same washing machine but the agitator screw keeps coming loose. We tried using Loctite glue and after a few washes it stills come loose. Any ideas why? I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

The repair man couldn’t get this off and I just did using a shoelace!! THANK YOU
You sir are my hero. Used a ratchet strap for more grip, but worked great!
After wrestling with the wash plate for four hours your shoelace idea worked thank you sir.
What do you do when that 7/16 bolt won’t budge when trying to get it out?

Yes me too
Use a cordless impact driver
I think it might be 11mm

How did you remove the bolt ??
That shoelace trick is one of the best things I've seen on youtube today. Works so easy! Thank you.
Yeah, that was top notch ingenuity. Worked amazing lol
Works easy? How many wash plates you removed that way?
Remove the bolt…ITS Breezy?! WTF. I can’t get the damn bolt off
Same here and no videos for that
I bought an impact wrench. Came right off.
Shoelace method for the win!!! Watched a few different videos and this one was by far the simplest and it worked with ease. Nice job.
I only have one hand and the shoestring method was the ONLY way to go short of cutting up the wash plate or calling for a repair. Thank you!
Did you fix it? Didn't see any video that show you fix it?

As a tech I would say that method gonna work only 1 maybe 2 times out of 10. Usually it’s a hammer, puller and a new washplate.🤷🏼♂️
Does anyone know if I should unplug the washer to do this
Not!!!! Don't unplug the machine, actually put it on wash then Try to take out pulling with your hands. LOL. 😢😢😢

Shoe string worked like a charm. Much appreciated!

Use Blue Loctite on the bolt threads. Don't have to do all the threads. Then wait 24 hours. The Loctite has to cure.
