A small correction that way too many people assume, Adult Gon is not his future potential, it is the strongest form of restriction that makes nen stronger (basically putting his future potential, current strength, and life on the line for a one time boost inpower that he could never use again, all extremely strong restrictions that no other hunter has used). Since nen is boosted way beyond how strong it is by the vows and restrictions gon used the most extreme form of that possible. Yes he could become one of the stronger hunters in the future, but realistically he'd be closer to Netero's prime strength (which we never saw) and not outright the Meruem strength. Naturally without strong restrictions Gon shouldn't be anywhere close to his adult form in the future.
