We’re having some issues with our older cat peeing and pooping outside of the litter boxout and are looking to invest in a third unit, since we currently have three cats. I learned two new things about the litter robot I didn’t already know from your video. The litter line, which we’ve just been guessing this whole time. I finally bought a Litter-Robot 3 Connect and received it last Friday. My cats have not been able to use is 6 days later because I received the plug meant for e European country. I have tried every method to get this corrected, to no avail. One would think that for the kind of money this cost, they would know that my state is in the USA and fix it! I am giving them until Monday to correct it and then I am filing a complaint with the BBB, my credit card company.

      Heather Moulton sorry to hear about your woes with the purchase. I’ve had a few with some companies (not Litter-Robot) during the pandemic too. It’s actually a great time to get your cats used to using it before it cycles! But yes, you’d need to scoop until the corrected adapter arrives. What complications have you run into? You reached out to support, I assume? bit.ly/3nvtZCo What have they said?

I normally don’t complain, but to me, when you spend that kind of money on a product you expect to receive everything you ordered and that it all works! I appreciate the phone call from Paula and I hope no one else has the problems that I have had!

    To reduce smell coming from the tray, I recently added mesh pouches of Zeolite And Carbon. The Zeolite is an ammonia remover. Works fantastic! Wish i would have found out about this sooner.
    When I introduced my cats to the Litter Robot, my x was convinced we could reduce the three cats to the one litter robot without a transition period. Well, one cat didn't agree and peed on him in our bed. We added back an old litter box and over the next few weeks she adapted to the litter robot. Now she uses it exclusively, but we kept the other box just incase.
    The only issue we have is that the cats like to spray just above the litter line. It's actually easier to manage then when they do this in the regular box since they can't spray as high. I just wipe it down once a day.

    • @Floppycats
      @Floppycats  4 года назад +2

      Hey Craig, I can probably point out the differences between the two for you. I am thinking one is the regular one without WiFi and the other is with WiFi. Right now they are having Litter Robot's Mother's Day Bundle Deal - bit.ly/3nvtZCo - you save $50 on that. Yes, marketing - but they only offer those "deals" around major holidays. So that one includes the Litter-Robot 3 Connect (the $500 one), plus (1) Ramp, (1) Fence, (100) Waste Drawer Liners, (3) Carbon Filters (Ramp, Fence, Waste Drawer Liners and Carbon Filters are $130 by themselves) and 36-month warranty ($49) for $628 (instead of $679). If you purchase through our link, you save an additional $25 - making it $603.99. You definitely want the waste drawer liners and carbon filters. I like the ramp and fence - especially the ramp - helps to collect litter scatter and will help my cats as they age. And a longer warranty ain't too bad either.

One thing I found with litter is the Scoop Away 42 lb kit that has the 4 separate bags (10.5 lbs each) is that one bag is the exact amount to bring it up to the litter line. I tried the Arm & Hammer Slide which worked better to keep the interior of the globe cleaner but the odor control was the worst I had ever found.

    Our 15yr old cats have had the litter robot since they were kittens. They are mostly wet food now and the clumps are big and the door needs cleanout nearly every day instead of every week, Anyhow, we use the same litter. I now mix senior cat crystals which helps keep the lumps from getting big and sticking to the base and ceiling. Note using 100% crystals does not work. But a mix of the two works well. Also I think as the rubber base gets old it becomes less flexible and wont drop down like its suppose to. Solution is to add more weight to the back side. There is a metal disc weight on the other side of the rubber base.

    1. I've had one for maybe 6 years. The last 2 years it's largely been inoperative. You can make it cycle manually but there's a big plastic flap that falls down from the upper left (inside the thing) and prevents proper operation. 2. Also, I'd like a video that shows EXACTLY how to take the thing apart to work on it. The manual covers everything pretty well but lacks good illustrations. 3. Also, where did you get that big tray on the front of your white unit (in this video) ? 4. We have 2 cats - do they EACH need their OWN? One used to be an enthusiastic "user" than abruptly quit & now refuses to use it! Other than these Q's, I WAS originally quite pleased with the unit, once you get over the hump of the initial price.

      I am on my third (count them 3) LitterRobot which has stopped functioning properly after about 5 years. When I spoke with customer service, they basically said this is “expected.” WWHHHAATTT? So, I bought $500 litter boxes 3x in 11 years? So basically my litterbox alone (not cleaning, not maintenance, not supplies... just the BOX) is going to cost me $100 a year. I have been a huge loyal fan of LR--and love them. But to find out that the company basically knows that the life expectancy is about 5 years, and says N-O-T-H-I-N-G about this (and clearly has not fixed this life expectancy issue in the 3 version I’ve had--LR 1, LR 2 and LR 3 open air (w/o wifi) is pretty much criminal to me. It’s one thing to buy a $500 litterbox once. It’s a whole other thing to do it 3x in 11 years. There is no question that they are WONDERS... I love mine... but to find out that its “expected” to start falling apart in 3-5 years (that was what the customer services rep shared “3-5” so essentially I’ve been pretty lucky when they last 5 years) is really disappointing. I will say that many people have had theirs last longer... so I am not saying they all break down... but out of 3, I have, after a couple of years, had to remove the back “key” and the inner “shield” in each, and had either motor or parts need replacement. Still, I love them. But this seems excessive. I know it’s delicate electronics, but if my car can work for 10-20 years and my appliances can, I think the $500 litter box should be able to!

    I overfilled so much on the first setup and thought I had a broken unit. Until I realized maybe it was too heavy and decided to take some out. It ended up emptying the extra litter itself completely and when it cycled back that’s when I realized how much litter it saved in the compartment with the net. I literally poured the amount I would for a litter box. LOL

    Thanks so much for this information! I have been wanting one for so long, but with Covid, we’ve been tight on our spending, so it has been on the back burner. But yesterday was my birthday, and my husband and daughter (she’s nine 😊) completely caught me off guard and surprised me with the LR3! It’s not often that they truly surprise me with something, but they really did- and I seriously just had permagrin all day! I am so happy! I just got it up and I’m in the introduction phase, but one of the two kitties has already used it, so that is excellent! I’m happy I read the instructions completely about giving them a chance to get used to it like you said before I just plugged it in. So I followed that from the book, but I didn’t know about any of the other things you mentioned doing, like putting some of the used litter in the robot so they have that familiar smell, and also about making sure to not overfill it. I do kinda wish this one had the wifi capability so it can tell me what’s wrong if something goes wrong! 😁 But I could care less- I am so happy just to have one, so I’m certainly not complaining!🙏🏼🤗

    Since you've owned them for a few years now, have you noticed any lingering smells even after a thorough cleaning? I've read that cat pee odor is easily absorbed by plastic, so I typically buy a new litter pan about once a year. Of course, I'd want several years of use out of a $500 litter box. I just wonder if you notice any lingering ammonia-like smell after a couple years.

    • @Floppycats
      @Floppycats  4 года назад +9

      no, i haven't - but i also clean mine regularly - deep cleaning after 6 months or so - and replace the carbon filter (which is where the most of the odor is for us), which for me has been essential. yes, on plastic litterbox - this one isn't really plastic on the bottom, though, like classic litterboxes. this one is a thick rubber on the bottom. and it's clumping litter, so the clumps drop below and don't stay in the actual litterbox for that long. does that help answer it?

    • @Floppycats
      @Floppycats  4 года назад +3

      Just off the top of my head - both function in the same way - cat goes in, does it's business, it cycles and it's ready for the next use. If you are going to have the LR3 in a place you don't see every day, then the Connect will be better because it will tell you if the LR is full, has issues, etc. But if you have the regular one, and it'll be in an area you walk by every day, then you can always just look at it to make sure everything is OK - basically if the blue light is on, you're good to go. Connect helps you know more without having to be present. Also, Connect will tell you how frequently it's being used - so if your kitty has a UTI or something, that might be an indication and you wouldn't get that with the standard one. Does that make sense?
      Have you had a chance to look at the differences on their website? bit.ly/3nvtZCo

    Thank you for the tips and info. I'm thinking of getting one because one of my 6 has been pooping and occasionally peeing on the floor (I work at a vet, she doesn't have stones, etc). I think that a different style letterbox and litter may help. So here is my question - I do have an Android - do you still recommend the 3 Connect over the older model? I am fine with occasional connection problems since I will have other letterboxes as backup and I check my boxes 2x day and scoop them. Another review elsewhere said they didn't think it was worth the $ over the non-connected. Thoughts?

    • @Floppycats
      @Floppycats  4 года назад +7

      sorry to hear about 1 of your 6 - that's always frustrating when they do that. i don't ever recommend anything - learned that long ago - i can't morally because every cat and every owner is different. what i can do is share my experiences and then let people decide on their own, if it will work for them. with that said, the whether or not to get the LR3 with or without connect is based on your needs. Connect helps you know when it is full, how often it is being used, if it's not cycling, etc.
      However, if you are like me, you're always checking it - since mine are on my way to my laundry - I always look to make sure they are in working order and cycling, etc. and since i have more than just the LRs, I wouldn't be able to accurately keep track about how often it is being used and by which cat. so the connect for me isn't really necessary.
      Here's our video on the connect that might help with your decision - ruclips.net/video/dF1fuuVXn1I/видео.html - the connect stuff starts at about 12 minutes.
      And for the litterbox peeing and pooping outside the box, you might check out these pages on our site to see if anything resonates with you (and be sure to read the comments too!) www.floppycats.com/cat-peeing-outside-of-the-litter-box.html and www.floppycats.com/cat-pooping-outside-of-the-litter-box.html - please let me know what you decide to do =)

    I've had both of those kinds of Litter Robot - and wouldn't go back to anything else! I have 3 cats now, including a kitten who is very curious about it when the LR3 Connect is cycling - he insists on sticking his head in and even stepping into it. It does stop (and sends me a message about interruption), so it's very safe. I have had a problem with the 'Bonnet Removed' messages from time to time - most notably when the nightlight is on (and, really, who needs that light? The cats certainly don't *g*) or if the kitten has decided to jump on top of it (why?). But all in all, I think this is an amazing product and well worth the expense. Loved your video too.

    I did some cat sitting for a friend who had this robot. Honestly, it ends up being more work than a simple hand scooping litter box. Way to many mechanical issues that create more work than scooping litter and keeping one full.
