  • In this video I will be going over how my time has been with the Litter-Robot III Connect over the last 2 years. This will include going over my time with the smart litter box itself as well as the app that gives this litter box its “smarts”. I hope this video will provide more insight into what its really like to have a litter robot 3 automated litter box and provide enough knowledge on if this product is a good fit for you. Outside of the smart app functionality all other features and aspect of the Connect version of the Litter-Robot 3 apply to the normal Litter-Robot 3 automatic smart litter box.

    The litter-robot 3 connect is a self-cleaning litter box for cats. In this cat product review I go over the many reasons why I feel this is the currently the best self cleaning litter box. While the price-tag is a bit steep, I go over why this automatic litter box is well worth the investment. In my opinion this is the best self cleaning litter box. Yes, update! I got the bundle so my older cat can get in and out easier, he likes it much better than having to climb over a traditional one I can tell. The youngest one was afraid of it even when I didn't have it plugged in for the first week but he soon got the courage when the other boxes he was used to were still dirty and one went missing haha. But now that the transition is over with I notice my apartment not only smells better but my cats seem to track less litter throughout the place. And my place stays very clean because I'm hardly home except to sleep most days but The only issue I did have was that there were little flies in the tray that I had a hard time getting rid of but I sprinkled diatomaceous earth in the tray and in every new bag and they haven't come back. It it a bit bigger than I was expecting especially with the ramp but I am very happy with it 🤙

    Arm & Hammer "SLIDE" is the best litter by far to using this robot in our experience and honest opinion. There is no mess on the sides except sometimes right at the front and I just get a dry paper towel and wipe it away. We've had it for 2 weeks with three cats and it is phenomenal and we just add litter and change out the bag. We have the 3 connect and are extremely happy with it. We got one that was refurbished so only $450. Somebody probably bought it turned around and sent it back to shortly after they got it

    Best ever review on this litter box I'v seen, I do wish the holding tank was deeper and maybe have a V channel for the litter build up, and if the hole were longer it may nit drop in the same spot each time, I have had to move it around quite often or empty it daily,
    When moving the litter, I have tried shaking it, that was not good as it jumped to the back of the box, there fir making me get on my hands and knees to clean it out 🤢, so it's best not to do that, it would kind of be nice if it dumped on the side, and have further to fall, and maybe making it easier to clean out, by changing the bag easier,
    It's hard for older ppl to get down that low, I did have a problem after 7 mos with the yellow light flashing and it stopped working, ghey were good about sending a replacement bottom, wick was greatly appreciated,
    I have one that the light went out fir no apparent reason tho

I wish the waste bin was larger too, i find that if you partially take the bin out and gently shaking it back and forth that you'll be able to use the same bag for a few more days. I do hope that when they come up with the 4th generation that they figure out a way to have more room.

    Totally agree with the draw mounting up in the middle and showing full when it is not full. I get fed up with having to shake the draw to level out the waste. Not what I was expecting to do every second day. The only other issue I have is constant cycle interrupt due to sensor issues. Apparently it happens when the litter builds up around the side of the hole in the top of the base and then lifts the globe slightly. I have to keep vacuuming this out. Obviously a design problem. Having said that, I would buy again but not until the draw fill level issue has been designed out.

    • @BeardedTechGuy
      @BeardedTechGuy  3 года назад +2

      I know it's going to depend on the cat but I find just shaking all the waste to the front usually only makes me have to do it one more time before the bag is actually full.
      For your other issue, are you saying the litter that gets stuck on the sides of the waste bin opening is causing you interuptions? I always have litter there it seems on both sides but haven't noticed any issues from it.

    • @deanrichards9541
      @deanrichards9541 3 года назад

      What I found with the litter on the sides of the opening is that my globe is not a sphere, more like a egg and this contacts the litter and pushes down on the sensor. I have spoken to the supplier here in Australia asking for a replacement globe, but they are not interested, but instead keep asking me to try different things, when it is clear what the problem is. I have given up on them. Problem is that they are the only supplier here. I have temporarily fix it by heating the globe and squashing it back into a round globe where it matters which is slightly better but still get sensor issues.

      To fill the box up, you might want a separate container like he shows at the end. I have to stick the whole box in there and jiggle it to get the litter out. Then I cycle it to get the litter evenly distributed.
      They are not kidding about not filling over the line. You'll end up with a bunch of litter in the waste drawer and you might even throw it off the rotating track.

    I have 3 of these for the last year to 2 years for 5 cats. I am VERY mixed with them as all 3 are always needing some kind of "help" to work properly. I have 2 enclosed porches with ceramic tiles. I keep one in each of these and the other in a spare room. I can say that every single day, ONE or more of these is stuck in the dumping phase of the cycle which means the cats have to go use another one...and it gets loaded up fast. I have to constantly move the robot around on the floor to get it to finish cycle because the level sensor is so sensitive that is puts it in error from the shifting litter as it rolls. It does this very badly on the 2 on the porches...which are perfectly level...but as the cats jump out they cause it to slide a little and a foot gets into the grout. The one on my carpet does this as well but not nearly as often. I have one VERY large cat who urinates enormous clumps that are so large that once it falls into the pan it sticks up enough to trigger the full sensor..and often the cycle is stuck in that position.
    All in all.....they are ok. They require a LOT of attention and constant checking to make sure they aren't stuck in a cycle or having some error that won't let it cycle. I just came in from one of the porches and saw that the inside was completely full because the robot had not cycled all day. I am not sure why, it has an empty tray and when I pressed the cycle button it cycled....the timer never sensed the cats. So, this means that waste had been sticking to the liner at least half of today and now I have to dump the brand new litter and take it outside and hose the dome out.
    I honestly kind of wished I hadn't dropped nearly $2,000 on these things...they do save time and hassle from scooping....but they are so unreliable that it is just as much time wrestling with one or more every day to figure out what problem it has. I would say 60% of the time it cycles completely and correctly... and 40% of the time it either gets stuck halfway into a cycle or doesn't cycle at all.

      Have you reached out to support at all for your issues?
      I'd suggest if possible maybe putting a rug under the two LRs on tile to help with the moving around. If not, maybe you could box it in with some kind of weight to prevent it from moving around so much?

  • @knothead35
    @knothead35 2 года назад +1

    I love the litter robot and I have 2. Both almost 3 years old. The biggest issue is pee clumps sticking to the liner. I've tried no less than 10 different clumping litters, including the litter robot brand. All equally stick to the liner and make a huge mess to clean up as it just smears on the liner. I've also tried all 3 different times to see if it would clump better, but the problem still persisted.
    The issue is definitely in the one that is used the most by my 3 cats. I have an older ckd cat that likes to pee on the edge of the litter, so it forms a semi clump around the rim of the liner. The other cat likes to hold her pee for a long time and then pee a huge amount at one time, so even the 15min wait time isn't enough. This is also because you can't put more than 10lbs of litter into the robot. So even if you start off with an empty drawer, as the days go on and waste is dumped into the drawer, you then have to add more litter to keep it at the appropriate level and eventually the weight is too much and it will stop halfway through a rotation. so you either have to keep the litter level lower or wasting bags by emptying the bin more often.
    When i had regular litter boxes, sticking rarely occurred because i was able to fill the box up by a minimum of 3 inches, if not more. There's no way to do this in the robot and I do think the robot should have been designed to be able to keep a deeper amount of litter in it.
    The liner does have a nonstick coating that eventually wears off and the problem got so bad that I was basically using a scoop to remove pee clumps from the liner and i was also having to deep clean it every 2 weeks. I had the extended warranty, so they sent me a new globe. This is the only product I've ever bought an extended warranty for and it's well worth it and it's already paid for itself as I've had to use it twice. Once for the dfi sensor. The blue light kept blinking, thinking the bin was full when it wasn't. They sent me the replacement part with detailed instructions and I fixed it within 45 mintues. And now the globe replacement. So, for those wanting to buy one, I'd definitely take advantage of the $25 off and then purchase the extra 18mon warranty. The good thing is that even by sending me the parts to fix it myself, it didn't void the warranty and I didn't have to ship the product to them to fix and go without it.
    I've suggested to the company that the globe needs to be able to hold more litter and they should try another material besides rubber. Possibly silicone, like they use in baking. After all, nothing i cook on silicone sticks.
    I just got the new globe yesterday, and pee is already partially sticking to the liner. They obviously can't help that my cat pees in this way(around the edge), but if the litter was deeper, it wouldn't be a problem, imo. What I'm trying now is to mix regular clay litter with lightweight clay litter. So that the weight is still appropriate, but the volume is more and hopefully will allow urine to be absorbed. Grass litter(mixed with clay) was the best I've used in any type of litter box, but one cat hated it, so I couldn't continue to use it.
    Either way, I'd still purchase this again. The company is extremely easy to work with and they 100% back their warranty without any fuss.

      Thanks for sharing your experience! The litter-robot is not perfect that is for sure but I agree with you it's a good purchase if it makes financial sense.
      Have you tried arm and hammer slide? I've had some pretty good luck with that. I also use the wipes from litter-robot every week or two to clean the inside of the globe (to reduce the amount of deep cleaning) and that helps me as well.

    Love this review! That’s so much for taking the time to post it. I don’t have a cat...I’ve actually never had one. I’m getting a kitten in about a month and I’ve been doing some research.
    I LOVE the convenience of this litter box. My concern is that my little kitten will be too small to actually climb inside of the box. Do you think this could be an issue?

      I never had a kitten with the litter-robot 3 so I can't really speak to your question. I know people use them with kittens. I would think you would want to have the ramp for them though. Also the Litter-Robot 3 does have a minimum weight requirement to trigger the weight sensor. Until they are heavy enough you would have to manually trigger the Litter-Robot 3 to cycle.

      Yes they do suggest waiting until the kitten is over 5 pounds or they might not register on the sensor. Don't worry, kittens grow up super fast!! So let them use a plain box to start and then train them to use the Litter Robot. It's not a bad idea to keep a basic box since you could have an issue with the Litter Robot and you're going to want one for "emergencies", like when you're cleaning the Litter Robot.

      Thank you and glad you liked the video! For non-clay litters you just need to make sure that the unused litter is small enough to fit through the grate which is not too small. For example Fresh Step Premium Crystals (amzn.to/3aUNvSw) will fit through the grate just fine. The one thing to keep in mind is with the silica based litters is that it doesn't clump but instead absorbs liquid waste. So that will end up getting mixed in with the clean litter as it cycles. This would be the same case as if using silica in a normal litter box but something to keep in mind. So as long as the litter you are using isn't too large you shouldn't see any issues.

    I was so excited to buy this and after two weeks of having it, it’s been a lot of hassle. It doesn’t always cycle and loose clean litter ends up in the drawer but the worst part is that the pee sticks to the rubber bottom. It will not fall into the drawer at all so I have to hit the cycle button and scrap as it turns which ends up leaving a mess and a lot of smudging. Personally, I’m having 2nd thoughts and don’t think it’s worth the $ due to the constant scraping.

      I have not. I am doing a new round of litter testing and have not heard of this one... I will look into it and see about including it with my testing. The biggest thing is the clumping of the litter. If it can clump well and not be mush then it should be fine to use, just might make things a bit messy

    Has anyone used this with a diabetic cat? My 13 year old boy is diabetic on insulin but still pees a lot. So we have to completely change the litter at least once a day. Will the pee make the litter stick to the sides? I am highly thinking of getting one but don’t want to waste the money if it won’t work well for my kitty. Also great video!

    • @BeardedTechGuy
      @BeardedTechGuy  2 года назад

      I don't have experience with a diabetic cat but I feel my cat pees "more" than normal and what I found is that the type of litter used and where they pee could impact how dirty the litter robot gets overtime. With a clumping litter the Litter-Robot might actually be helpful because it'll cycle every time so you won't have to change the litter but you'd probably have to make sure to add more litter often to prevent any sticking from occurring.
      I"m glad you liked the video!

    I have another brand auto box which has actually worked pretty well and after 3 years is still going. I'm interested in the LR because I would like to decrease odor and being more closed will cut down on litter dust as well.
    My question is, can cats scratch the litter out of the box? My current box jams because the litter goes under the bowl when they scratch litter over the side. This wears down the gears which need replacing every three months😣
    Thanks for help and thanks for video!

    • @BeardedTechGuy

      A cat could get litter out of the globe, there is a "fence" that can go on the outside lip that will help stop litter from getting out if your cat likes to kick litter. With that said, with how the litter-robot is designed simply kicking litter out of the box wouldn't cause any to get into the working area of the litter-robot. If they then kicked the litter that is outside of it back towards the Litter-Robot there would be some kind of chance for it to then get under the globe but the space is pretty small.

  • @LoveThatPhantom

    I've been considering the Litter Robot for awhile. I have 3 cats and 2 boxes (1 large box and 1 small). I always dread cleaning the box. I live with my grandpa and he has started to complain about the litter smell. As I sometimes forget to clean it every day (oops). So I believe having this would definitely help with that. But the thing that drives me away is the price of the robot itself. And my cats are on the older side. And I think well what if I don't get another cat right away (probably will, but at this point I don't know) what would I do with this robot? That being said. I do tend to travel to Minnesota on weekends quite a bit to visit family. And it would be nice to also know that once I got back from a weekend away I wouldn't have to worry about cleaning up a bunch of dirty litter when I got back.

      I tested out a few different combinations for an upcoming video I am working on going over different litters and how well they work with the Litter-Robot. By themselves the silica litters don't really perform great but I was curious how they would work if combined with traditional clay litter.

    • @BeardedTechGuy
      @BeardedTechGuy  3 года назад

      Correct. It's not needed but might be a good idea if you have any pets that like to chew on cords. They do offer a power cord that has a protector that can be purchased ( share.litter-robot.com/3qrNSM ) but the sleeving is a bit cheaper, but offers a little less protection from chews.

    • @BeardedTechGuy

      It depends on the size of the pallets and how they react when wet. If the pallets break down into sawdust I think its going to make a giant mess unfortunately. The pallets also need to be small enough to fit through the grate.

    This is a great informational video! Thank you! Does the $25 off work for reconditioned models? (there is a $100 off coupon that is offered on their site to sign up for emails, but isn't applicable for reconditioned models) We just adopted two senior kitties and the foster had a litter robot, so we know these kitties are good with it, and both don't like messy litter boxes (i.e. one where someone has gone only once - maybe they've been too spoiled with the litter robot, lol?)

    • @barbewilliams3706
      @barbewilliams3706 3 года назад +4

      I had the same apprehension about the setup as you are experiencing. The LR really is plug & play, meaning take the wrapping off, place it where you want it, add litter to where the rubber ring is near the bottom and turn it on. I would recommend not turning LR on till your cat/cats check it out. I also recommend the app for smart phones as it gives you information that I find useful. The only problems I have encountered is pee balls sticking to the top of inside then not falling into the waste hole, but the problem is partly my cats fault as they pee on the wall instead of making nice little pee balls. I have 3 cats and my holdout boy is a little claustrophobic however I have seen him use the LR once so I know he can do it. It does a great job of containing the smell, once a day I usually need to pull the drawer out to shake the used litter to the front as it will build up on the left side and there is still a lot room. With mostly 2.5 cats using the LR I change the bag about every 3 days. So today I’m planning to order my second LR Connect 3. If I could make 1 improvement it would be to make the plastic nonstick for the area past the grate where the litter balls have a tendency to stick. The LR is “the cats’ meow”!

    How much litter tracks out? Do you by chance have a cat that likes to throw litter sometimes? Will the dome prevent that?

    • @BeardedTechGuy
      @BeardedTechGuy  2 года назад

      Litter tracking is going to really depend on the litter you are using. If you get the ramp it would help catch some but if you use a litter mat today, I would say you'll still need one.
      The Litter-Robot 3 does have a slight fence in the front that can catch some litter. They also sell a taller fence that will help catch some litter but won't necessarily catch all litter depending on how its thrown.

      Her max weight was 16 lbs, but she's slimmed down a bit. She had plenty of room, but I do wish the globe was a bit bigger as she's a bigger cat. If your cat doesn't mind smaller places I don't think it would be an issue.
