👍I like the weight feature, the controls of the interior lighting, its quiter, 👎 though not as much as a standard litter box- odor is still present ❓Can you use arm and hammer deodorizer powder in it?
Love you video - nicely done. I have 2 LR3. Here is my big issue with them - for a SIX HUNDRED AND FIFTY dollar litter-box - it needs to have a better warranty. If they know the parts aren’t going to last more than a year they should use sturdier construction or have a better warranty. My experience with the LR3 let’s me know these are super well engineered but built with extremely cheap parts. Planned obsolescence to make money is sort of like legal racketeering. LR knew about the sensor issues in the LR3 that could have been corrected with better parts - but unless your unit failed within their very short warranty time, you are SOL and giving them MORE money. (Mind you I have $1000 in litter boxes - wasn’t that enough for say 3 to 5 years?) When they come out with a product they will actually support for a reasonable time after purchase I will buy another. It’s the predatory business practice I don’t like - not the product!
a review I found on chewy: I'd like to preface this by saying I am a mechanical design engineer and I have experience in manufacturing engineering. This litter robot is the worst, absolutely cheapest, lazily engineered product I have ever used. I gave it a year to see if I could get past all its flaws, but I couldn't because after 11.5 months it finally broke. This thing has lots of very poorly implemented sensors, to help control when it takes certain actions. The first sensor is the cat detection sensor, so that it cycles a preset amount of time after the cat leaves the litter box. Unfortunately, since day 1, the sensor works maybe 60% of the time. I am constantly going and pressing the cycle button because it failed to detect one of my cats. They also use the same sensor to detect if a cat tries to step in the box while its rotating, so it can stop spinning. However, this sensor trips all the time while rotating, because of the poor build quality of the rotating sphere (more on that later). However, if it trips, it never un-trips. So the litter box will literally be stuck upside down for hours leaving the poor cats with nowhere to do their business. The next sensor is the one that detects when the waste tray is full. Well the tray is not very tall, but quite long. When the robot empties, the waste just piles up under the hole in the sphere and doesn't spread throughout the tray. So literally after 2 cleaning cycles it says the waste tray is full. When it thinks the tray is full, guess what...it stops cleaning. Now onto build quality. The sphere itself that rotates is made from 2 pieces of injection molded Polypropylene (PP). This material is very common on normal litter boxes because it's slippery, lightweight, chemical resistant, and most importantly the raw materials are very very very inexpensive. Well the problem with this being made from Polypropylene is that they made the walls very thin. So when it rotates the 2 halves shift independently of each other. PP is also very flexible; it is not considered a rigid plastic and is never used for structural applications or when something will be subjected to a lot of fatigue. So as the sphere rotates, because it's made from PP it flexes and shifts and it trips the cat detection sensor and it's gets jammed on these HDPE passive bearings they use to assist rotation. Also, as I've cleaned this thing I got a good look at the bosses they use for the screws. It makes sense why this thing no longer works. The bosses are so thin and inadequate for PP that they are going to stress the material every cleaning cycle until they eventually snap. The dome has also fatigued so much that the rubber liner no longer stays in place so I have to constantly hook it back onto its mating surfaces. Literally this thing probably cost them $30 in materials to build. For the high price of this thing, they really should have invested more in quality materials, not just making the highest profit margin. Stay far away.
Better to buy the extended warranty for $100. It’s a 3 year warranty and worth it. My LR3 stopped working after almost 3 years and they sent me all new working parts, essentially a new unit. They definitely stand by the warranty and ship replacement parts quickly. I just bought the LR 4 so now I have two.
I have the litter robot open air model and have absolutely loved it, and it was worth every penny. After about 7 years of use, my model definitely has a lot of issues so I'm super excited to finally upgrade to this new model!!
Just got a LR 3 a few weeks ago and wish I had known the 4 was so close to release, the noise alone would be a huge plus. As well the slightly smaller footprint and wider opening.. As for new add ons, the hopper for topping up litter seems like a really good idea. Clumping litter gets depleted of its clumping components as it is sifted, adding a bit of fresh litter in all the time really extends how long it works before needing a full change.
Me too! I received my LR3 several weeks ago and didn't know about LR4. I talked to LR support today and I can return my LR3 and get a full refund and then I will order the LR4. They are supposed to email me a return shipping label for free. I need to get it to a FedEx office to be returned to LR.
@@sbm1961 WOW! That's awesome to hear, I'm glad they are making sure to help people out! Don't forget if you place your order for the LR4 through the link in description you'll be able to save $25 on your order as well
I own 2 LR4's... having recently upgraded after 3 years from LR3's... my main complaint about the new units is my god when they malfunction, it can be incredibly frustrating to figure out. I've had a support ticket in for 3 weeks thats gone unanswered by their support. The ability to self diagnose is limited and frustrating at best. Usually where i turn to help is the error message and youtube. We have 6 cats between myself and my roommate and litter lasts about a week. I find that once it gets saturated no matter what you do you are either dealing with odor or the waste. Frequent cleaning is required. For $700 bucks a unit i guess id just expect it to perform better. It is quieter though.
I did recently publish a video going over some common error light codes on the LR4 that you may find helpful: ruclips.net/video/pka3Ep9tynM/видео.html In that video description is also the LR4 troubleshooter which covers all of the Light error codes and was to troubleshoot them. My understanding is if you use the troubleshooter to open a support ticket the ticket opened will have a higher priority in the system.
Does the LR 4 have a sealed waste container? I've tried several kinds of automatic litter boxes and almost all of them were awfully smelly compared to my traditional litter box and it was always the waste bin that started to reek after only one day. So having a sealed waste container is a must.
Just ordered the LR4. Of course I’m nervous with such a large expensive purchase, but do you think there are some savings with litter compared to a traditional litter box? Thanks for the review!
That will really depend on your scooping habits. A clump is going to use the same amount of litter no matter what, but if you end up throwing out unused litter when scooping (like if its sitting on top of a clump) then that litter would end up being not being wasted.
Wonderful review! I appreciate the details, and I can't wait to see how the rest of the planned features work out. I very much appreciate the examples of the lessened sound from cycling on the newer model.
I literally just got the 3. Do you think it'd be worth paying for return shipping to upgrade to the 4 instead? I'd guess the return shipping will be $50-$100.
That's a tough one. You could see if they would cover the cost of return shipping (maybe by applying to purchase of the LR4). I doubt they would but could be worth a shot if you want the LR4 over the LR3.

This looks fantastic. Yes, a bit on the pricey side, but it does everything I would need. We have 3 cats, and I wonder if we could get away with 1 of these? I really like the idea that it can weigh them as well, so we can track that. Yes, I would love to see more data. I'm guessing they would charge an monthly uplift for that, but it would be great to get monthly reports e-mailed to you, or otherwise a way to export the data for when we go to the vet. I dig that it can identify each cat, that's fantastic.
It's listed as supporting up to 4 cats and I think its possible for 3. With the litter box always being clean that will be very helpful. They also have some kind of hopper contraption planned that is supposed to allow for adding more litter which I think would be great for a multi-cat household. For individual cat identification I think you need their PetID Tag which are supposed to be released soon as well. I believe it's just a tag that goes on their collar to allow tracking. Honestly I'd be fine with extra data just being saved locally on the phone and only the previous month's saved on "the cloud". You can export data already from the app as well which is nice.
I have been using the LR3 connect with ramp inside the LR branded 3 door cabinet for 2 years now and haven’t had any issues, never had to unclog anything or scoop, and all 3 of my cats seem to love it because it’s fresh every time they get in. Frankly I have no need to upgrade to the LR 4 because of how well the LR3 has worked for me but the differences in upgrades to the 4 are exactly what I’ve wanted improved from the 3 so it’s worth to me to upgrade for those new features alone For the pet ID, I hope it’s not a proprietary tracker but rather uses the chip that’s already inside the cat like some cat feeders work (the chip they put in at the animal shelter for tracking lost pets)
@@daniels7862 With 7 cats, how many LR3 do you have? We are wanting to get 2 LR3 for 5 large cats, but with the LR4 shipping next month, I’m on the fence of what to get lol.
@@JudicialMermaid We only have one. It’s doable but the tray does fill up quite fast, usually every day I have to empty. The LR4 has some great improvements but if money is a constraint the LR3 is just fine. The only reason you would really need multiple LRs is if you don’t want to empty it out as often or you have picky cats that don’t all like to share the same box.
Looks like this new model has a cloth lining. I can see it falling toward the litter when the drum spins to refresh the box. Seems that would be very difficult to clean.
I tried the Litter Robot 3 with 2 cats and it lasted all of 30 days before breaking down, I am hoping the improve the reliability of these units as I would consider it for the improvements over the 3
I haven't had any issues with my LR3 in the 3 years I've had it and I haven't run into any problems with the LR4 in the few months I've had it so far either.
I'm assuming its 4 purple and the LED above the WiFi button is flashing yellow. Purple means it's in sleep mode. (you can disable it by pressing and holding down the Cycle button for 3 seconds then let go. The light bar will turn blue and the unit will again be in auto-cycle mode.) Flashing yellow above the WiFi button means the LR is in WiFi on-boarding mode to be setup within the App.
Just purchased litter-robot 4 first thing I noticed is weight sensor is incorrect. I reached out to tech support which said press reset. However, weight sensor remains incorrect. I have 3 cats 2- 11 # and 1-16#… the sensor is indicating the 2- 11# cats are 6.2#, and the 16# cat-10.6#. A considerable difference in my opinion. I am certain of my cat’s weight because they had a veterinarian visit 2 days ago.. so question is how to correct the weight sensor or do I need to send it back? It is one of several reasons I chose the litter-robo4.
Thank you for such a thorough review video👍, I’ll be looking for your “how to clean” & all other videos concerning the LR4… looking forward to your responses
I don't think it's too bad! I recently made a video going over how I clean it if you are interested in seeing my process: ruclips.net/video/yy1eG_oyeGU/видео.html
@@BeardedTechGuy Thank you for getting back to me. I did see on the web site they are 7-9 weeks out for delivery. Now it’s just deciding what unit my fiancé and I want lol.
It looks like there's a pretty decent sized gap between the litter separator grate and the side wall for bigger chunks of used littler to slip under. Have you noticed an issue with that or with wet litter sticking to the (what appears to be silicone) cover on the bottom?
Nothing crazy but I've noticed a few small clumps (I wouldn't even call them that, they are small enough I'd probably miss them when scooping) still in the clean litter bed. I'm keeping an eye on it to see if it gets better or worse from the weight of the litter over time.
I actually have a multi step ramp I bought off amazon that my cat uses to get in and out. Some people have said there cats just jump over the step while others say their cat uses it. Outside of needing the extra space, I think it makes sense to get the step compared to just the handle.
Very helpful review! Do you feel like the step is necessary or is the version with just the handle sufficient? Can one's cat jump in and out of it without the step? I ask because the step takes up extra space...thanks!
I'm glad you liked the video! I think its going to depend on the cat honestly so I can't really give a helpful answer. At this time I don't think its possible to buy the step as an add-on. They are supposed to be selling a ramp later this year though. I'd reach out to support and see if you could get the step version and if they would send / sell you the handle if you find out you don't need the step.
I think the opening is much better, but I wish there were still a non wifi version. Did you happen to notice any way to completely disable the wifi? Thanks.
@@BeardedTechGuy Thanks dude. I also downloaded the manual for it and saw that. I emailed them to ask more about it (like does that completely shut down the chipset and antenna when off like that but no response just yet. The main reason I don't want it is to reduce EMF inside my house. I didn't think I'd notice any difference in the way I personally felt when I killed (shut off) my wifi base station and went back to cat5/6 for networking my primary computers. But I did so that's the main reason. On a rare occasion I'll fire it back up again to update my iPad but I shut it right back off again. IMO it's gotten beyond ridiculous just how many appliances are networked now. It's potentially intrusive too. I've got a LR3 without it but my surviving kitty has like zero interest in it.... bummer. Love it.... it was used mainly by a kitty I lost back in April so it's set unused since then. At some point in the not too distant future I plan to get another kitten but the new design looks like it might provide me the opportunity to sweet talk my 16 year old little monster into using it. They do make scooping chores so so so much easier. Thanks again for your time.
I pushed the wifi button on my litter robot 4 and it seemed to turn the wifi off. I'll dig out my kali linux laptop in the next few days to verify if it actually shuts down its wifi chip or not.
No, some of the pee clumps made a little mess on the side but that was before i increased the wait time to 30 minutes. I'm using arm and hammer slide currently ( amzn.to/3MlzEol )
Thank you for the review I have had the LR3 since 2019 and had to replace the DCI one time and the anti pinch prongs twice because they would get corroded because they were openly exposed to litter. I've been on the fence about pre-ordering the LR4. I didnt see you using the fence on the unit ? I have litter kickers and I was wondering how well the fence works? I ended up getting a third party fence for my LR3 because the fence offered by whisker was to short and didnt do a thing to keep litter from being kicked out.
There are no sensors that I can see in the waste area like on the LR3, so shouldn't have any corroding metal. The fence is the same height as the LR3 fence. They have planned a "mega fence" which is supposed to be larger and a full door flap (not sure how that will work). I don't have dates for when those two items will be released.
@@BeardedTechGuy Thank you, I used your discount link to order mine. It was a tough decision since this is a super pricey item and I still have a somewhat working LR3 however with the design change that fixes what I find absolutely irritating about the LR3 will be worth it to me personally lol 😆.
I've had the litter robot 3 for 5 years now. I probably won't upgrade to this one till they add the stair accessory. It definitely looks worth the upgrade from the 3.
They lowered the volume by half a gallon in the Litter-Robot 3 and its the same on the 4. So Original LR was 1½ gallon the LR4 is 1 gallon. They are supposed to be releasing a litter hopper that will hold up to 8 additional lbs of litter that will auto fill the LR4. Litter Capacity for all models of the Litter-Robot: Litter-Robot: ~9 lbs or 1½ gallons Litter-Robot 2: 9 to 10 lbs. of standard clumping litter or approximately 1 ½ gallons of volume Litter-Robot Open Air: ~8-10 pounds by weight or 1 ½ gallons by volume Litter-Robot 3 / Litter-Robot 3 Connect: ~8-10 pounds by weight or 1 gallon by volume Litter-Robot 4: ~8-10 pounds (3.6-4.5 kg) by weight or 1 gallon (4L) by volume
Lol honest review :). I have the litter robot 3. Why would you want a bigger opening? More sand will come out when the cat jumps out. And its a bit smaller inside too. Would be better they make i bigger inside. The motor is quiter but have they make it stronger? The robot will stop mid rotation if its to much clumps or sand in the unit.
The larger opening is nice for adding more litter and my cat has arthritis so she likes likes more space on the opening. They will be having a full door flap like add-on later on that would help lower litter tracking. Not sure on motor power but I haven't had any issues with larger clumps.
The different cat recognition will require Pet ID. I don't know much about it but I assume its a tag that could go on the cat's collar to help the Litter-Robot 4 identify which cat is using it.
@@BeardedTechGuy This is important issue as to if I would pay extra for this as our elderly cats would not tolerate a collar. They are microchipped. If it works from the chip reading then great! If tag on collar no. Thank you for fast reply!
Tofu litter is typically too large to fit through the sifting screen.

Great Presentation. I like the comparison between LR3 and LR4. But one detail has not been presented. What is the difference between the two sensors? Is the sensor from LR4 as fragile and impressionable as the one in LR3? In other words, do we have to suffer the continual misplacing of the metallic "little S" shaped, which is located in the LR3's sensor and provokes a non-stopping blinking yellow light? Will LR4 have this same default? I hope not. Please, confirm that LR4 does not.
are you talking about the metal contact prongs on the bonnet? if so when I spoke with whisker about the contact points the bonnet won't have any at all. They also stated the DCI is all enclosed and internal as well as no more anti pinch contact prongs that always corroded.
I don't think they will with them being so back ordered I would think they don't need to do a sale on them at the moment. (I have no knowledge on the matter)
When you talk about the sensors, you mention that if a cat sticks their head in there during a cycle it will stop....then in the video showing your cat, he/she has his head in the robot while it's going? Also - did you put some kind of ambient light behind the box in the final shot?
Oh I thought I had added a second clip of me triggering it with my hand but I guess I didn't. She only sticks her head in just enough so it won't trigger causing it to stop 😆. The cat has to break the threshold of the outer lip. I'll upload a clip in the next few days to demonstrate. I just had a LifX bulb in a work light plugged in behind it to add a little "flavor" to the shot
Off their website: "Determine your shipping method. You are responsible for return shipping costs. We can provide a return shipping label via FedEx for a $60 deduction from your refund (or $75 for home pickup). Please note, return shipments outside the contiguous 48 states may incur additional shipping costs." So you could shop around and maybe get it cheaper but if you go the FedEx return label route $60/$75 (for pickup) would be the max
Do you have any insight to the "Cat Recognition Disclaimer" in the FAQ on the website. Basically they say that the feature won't be available until the end of 2022 and it requires hardware. That would mean that I can't buy it now ... though it is not actually available now anyway. They say they will ship in August.
The different cat recognition will require Pet ID. I don't know much about it but I assume its a tag that could go on the cat's collar to help the Litter-Robot 4 identify which cat is using it.
I got the rob 3 worked 2 half years then just started playing up and then just it go way past were it should stop. For wast .. i cleaned it spot less .now it did the same thing then stoped altogether. Blue light then orange continually. I do like robo 4 but would like to get robo 3 fixed .then get robo 4 ...like your video . Can't get robo 3 fixed in England why???
@@BeardedTechGuy My LR3 used to have an intermittent problem of not recognizing the rotation end-point sensors, and would go til the motor stalled. I thought it was faulty Hall effect sensors in the base track, but I replaced them and it kept happening periodically. Finally they sent me a replacement circuit board, and then it happened much less often but was not totally fixed. The final answer is they replaced the entire base under warranty. Fixed.
thank you for your prompt response to my question!! one more: do you know if a "ramp" will be able to attach to a LR4 with the step (versus the handle)? thanks and have a great day :)
I just tried bit.ly/SaveOnLitterRobot4 and it goes to the Litter-Robot 4 for me. As long as you get a popup and click on "Shop now" from the popup the discount should work on the LR3 and LR4. You would see it applied in your cart when you go to check out (before you pay).
Great video. I saw your 2 year review of the last one, where you had a great list of all your problems with it. How’d this new one compare so far, did you have any of the same issues, or maybe new ones?
Glad you liked the video! The only problems I've had so far has been with the app, but the version I am using is beta still so I won't be mentioning them yet but so far they've been working through bugs pretty efficiently so hopefully they are all gone by release. I know not helpful now, but I'll be doing a 6 month or 1 year follow up once I have more time with the LR4.
I've had the litter robot 3 for 5 years. And I also had 4 cats, 3 now. I never ran into issues with multiple cats. They suggest no more than 4 cats per litter robot. The only issue with having more than one cat is you have to empty the bin more often. With my 3 cats I only have to empty the litter once to twice a week. So you'll be fine with 2 cats. I don't have the 4 yet so I can't say how many times you'd have to empty the bin but it should be similar.
@@Tasnailz thanks. It's true about the regular litter boxes needing more if you have more cats. But with litter robot it cleans the litter after each use so having multiple cats they have no problem using it. It gets kind of annoying sometimes cuz I have one cat that'll go right back in after it finishes rotating because the litter is clean. Also my cats were kind of big. One was 26 pounds and he fit no problem in the dome area. I just had to get the stair attachment for him but the litter robot 4 doesn't have that attachment yet, just the step for now.
That rule refers to "litter boxes" which are tended by a human who cannot scoop them more than once per day. This is a litter "robot" which scoops after every poop. I think the real limit is the size of the collection box and the amount of litter you can add. I'm happy to hear that they are coming out with a litter "hopper" to replenish litter. That makes it even more useful for multi cat families.
It won't do much in terms of odor trapping before cycling but after it completes a cycle I don't notice any smell from the litterbox. I haven't had any spilling issues from the litter robot cycling, but litter can still track depending on your cat and the litter you use.
Once again, another great video/tutorial, thank you! This question may already be listed somewhere in the comments but if you had to choose between the three or the four, what would you choose? Also, would you be concerned about any new technology glitches in the 4? Thanks
If buying a Litter-Robot for the first time I think the 4 is the way to go over the 3! I think hardware seems pretty solid (and has been on the LR3 and the Feeder-Robot as well) so the more likely issue will be software problems which in theory should be fixable with updates.
Thanks for the GREAT review! I've been a LR3 user for a couple of years and am considering a second one. Do you have any idea what the interior space differences are between the LR3 and LR4? I know that some reviews have commented about the small-ish space in the LR3. This seems to be the chief complaint of at least one vet and also a prominent review article. Is there more space in the LR4? Thank you!
I'm glad you found hte video helpful! The listed dimensions are: LR3 - Height: 15" - 17" (depending on litter) Width: 20" Depth: 20" LR4 - Height: 15" - 17" (depending on litter) Width: 19" Depth: 18" So a little smaller
@@BeardedTechGuy hm so the dimensions of the LR4 are actually smaller... that's a little surprising. Do you find that this is largely offset by the larger opening on the LR4? I've witnessed at least one of my two 16 pound guys facing inwards on the LR3 before which makes me feel bad. Usually they will use it facing outwards though.
I'm gutted! Less than a month ago we bought at LR3 connect. Its taken three weeks to get the fur ball to use it all the time and be happy. Now they release a new model which would have made things much easier. I thought to about returning it, and getting a new LR4 instead which deals with a few of the issues we have still, but they won't be selling LR4 to the UK until the end of the year. So in short, I'm stuck with a sub-quality older model and they are zero help. Not what you expect when you spend so much cash on a product.
I'm not sure if it's different in the UK but you can return within 90 days (you just have to pay return shipping). You'd have to wait until released though which is going to be a while like you said.
Glad you found the video helpful! I just tried it as well and it appears to not be working.... I sent an email to them to see whats up and hopefully it's fixed soon.
@98765qaz cs you should get a pop-up saying you'll get $25 off, which you should click on "shop now" and the discount will show up when you go to check out (but before you submit payment)
Did I hear you right that LR4 comes with a litter self topper that adds more litter itself when needed ?? I currently have a LR3 Connect that still within 90 days warranty (which will be up in a week). So I need to be convinced LR4 is worth the price difference (esp I owned a reconditioned one ). Thank you for your video !
I'm glad you liked the video! IT does NOT come with a litter hopper, instead that is an expected accessory they plan to sell in the future. This is a screen grab of what they showed very briefly during the launch event of the LR4: imgur.com/lTVaw6W
Your cat stuck its head inside at 4:17 and it's still cycling. It contradicts what you claimed about the feature earlier in the video that it will stop.
There are two different ways the LR will detect a cat, there are sensors at the top and weight sensors. In the video my cat sticks her head right at the threshold for the top sensors to trigger (they are in the lip of the front and you have to go past to trigger). Here is a video of the top sensors interrupting a cycle: ruclips.net/video/mamomX2EV3E/видео.html
Nice video! We are planning to get one but have a Siberian cat (long haired), so we wanted to use the crystal litter. May I ask which Crystal litters you tried? Did you try Dr. ELSEY'S Crystal litter? Thanks in advance!
Just 1 cat. I wipe down every two weeks or so and do a deep clean every 3 or so months. I recently released a video going over cleaning the LR4 which can be found here: ruclips.net/video/yy1eG_oyeGU/видео.html
I'm personally not sure. I've seen a few people mention they had high pee-ers that would pee out of the waste port that's towards the top. You could pick one up to see what happens as they have a 90 day return policy BIT you have to pay return shipping which can be a bit pricey for a large bulky item like that.
Just checked and the Litter-Robot 4 shows $699.00 USD for me. They do sell bundles that come with furniture and bundles with two LR4 or with a Feeder-Robot that is within the 1,090 price range though.
What do you like about the Litter-Robot 4? What don't you like about the Litter-Robot 4? Let me know below!
@Christian Caleb for or 4 four? Are you too lazy to type properly?
About how often did you have to change out the waste bin?

I hope you enjoy it!
I've had my litter robot for about 7 months and I love it. My cat enjoys it as well.
I'm glad to hear that!
I would recommend reaching out to support, they might be willing to help you out
Don't forget if you place your order for the LR4 through the link in description you'll be able to save $25 on your order as well
You have a 90 day in home trail! So you can always return and get the new one
Their customer support is really great! Tell them you'd like to return it and after you get your money back, you can place an order for the LR4!
I did recently publish a video going over some common error light codes on the LR4 that you may find helpful: ruclips.net/video/pka3Ep9tynM/видео.html
In that video description is also the LR4 troubleshooter which covers all of the Light error codes and was to troubleshoot them. My understanding is if you use the troubleshooter to open a support ticket the ticket opened will have a higher priority in the system.
LR4 has more issues and flaws than the LR3, you should've stayed with LR3
What is the full enclosure flap you mentioned ?
It was a planned accessory, but to my knowledge has not been released at this time
Does it have a pinch sensor and waste sensor that are in the line of falling litter and dust like the LR3? Had so many problems with them failing...
The waste sensor is actually at the top of the litter box, a visual demonstration can be found here: box imgur.com/hjsvJzb
Omgosh I’ve been waiting for this! So excited!
Looking forward to the hopper, camera mount, and ID sensor
I like it a lot over the Litter-Robot 3, a big step forward for sure!
Does the LR 4 have a sealed waste container? I've tried several kinds of automatic litter boxes and almost all of them were awfully smelly compared to my traditional litter box and it was always the waste bin that started to reek after only one day. So having a sealed waste container is a must.
Yes. Access to it is given when its cycling to dump waste but normally its sealed
sono indeciso tra questa e la petkit max sono un po’ titubante su quale acquistare
@@BeardedTechGuy thanks for taking the time to reply!
Just ordered my LR4, I have 2 LR3s but I have 6 cats now so another is needed. Fingers crossed I can get it the first week of October
I hope you like it!
Wonderful review! I appreciate the details, and I can't wait to see how the rest of the planned features work out. I very much appreciate the examples of the lessened sound from cycling on the newer model.
I'm glad you found the video helpful!
please, please, please make an idiot proof how to install the "fence". I can't figure it out from the Litter Robot website. Please help!!

Frankly I have no need to upgrade to the LR 4 because of how well the LR3 has worked for me but the differences in upgrades to the 4 are exactly what I’ve wanted improved from the 3 so it’s worth to me to upgrade for those new features alone
For the pet ID, I hope it’s not a proprietary tracker but rather uses the chip that’s already inside the cat like some cat feeders work (the chip they put in at the animal shelter for tracking lost pets)
I’ve been using a LR3 with 7 cats and it’s been fine. I just have to empty the waste drawer almost every day. Lol
I think you can change the light to blue if you’d like.
Looks like this new model has a cloth lining. I can see it falling toward the litter when the drum spins to refresh the box. Seems that would be very difficult to clean.
Other comment says it is still vinyl/rubber and has a mechanism that forces it to fall forward to allow litter to fall off the bottom.
The liner is TPE (thermoplastic elastomer). It is very flexible, durable and extremely easy to clean.
Help what does it mean if I have a purple an yellow light the purple light is solid an the yellow is blinking
I'm assuming its 4 purple and the LED above the WiFi button is flashing yellow.
Purple means it's in sleep mode. (you can disable it by pressing and holding down the Cycle button for 3 seconds then let go. The light bar will turn blue and the unit will again be in auto-cycle mode.)
Flashing yellow above the WiFi button means the LR is in WiFi on-boarding mode to be setup within the App.
Dam idk why it won't change to blue an I keep trying to connect to the wifi / my phone but it won't connect thanks for reply
Have you come up with a solution for litter waste sticking to the liner?
I recommend trying different litters. I've had some good success with arm and hammer slide ( amzn.to/3wekDyS )
I second the bearded guy the arm and hammer slide is the best for these boxes.
How hard is it to clean?
I don't think it's too bad! I recently made a video going over how I clean it if you are interested in seeing my process: ruclips.net/video/yy1eG_oyeGU/видео.html
How is this unit holding up? I am tossed up between the litter robot 4 and the Leo loo too.
Still working good for me! They are having some delivery delays due to demand I think I saw and their support center is pretty backed up
@@BeardedTechGuy Thank you for getting back to me. I did see on the web site they are 7-9 weeks out for delivery. Now it’s just deciding what unit my fiancé and I want lol.
If you do end up ordering you can use my affiliate link to save $25 on the order of a Litter-Robot! bit.ly/SaveOnLitterRobot4
Any thoughts on the platform vs the handle entryway?
Thanks.
You could just not setup the WiFi, what are you looking to accomplish by completely disabling the WiFi?
@@BeardedTechGuy Awesome, thanks dude. I really appreciate it.
Does the ramp on the LR3 work with the LR4?
No. They are releasing a new ramp later this year
Does it poop stick to the litter walls ? What kind of litter you are using?
I hope you enjoy it!
Deep cleaning? Does the robot 4 make that easier? I hate taking my lr3 apart for deep cleaning.
I haven't deep cleaned the LR4 yet, but its going to be a similar process. The globe shape is circular so its easier to handle which is nice
I've had the litter robot 3 for 5 years now. I probably won't upgrade to this one till they add the stair accessory. It definitely looks worth the upgrade from the 3.
The wireframe image they showed of the stairs looks world's better over the LR3 ramp, I hope that's actually what it'll look like
@@BeardedTechGuy yes, I saw that too. Was disappointed it's not out yet. But at least the dome won't be in the way like it is on the 3.
We had the original litter robot eons ago and I feel like it held much more litter. That looks like barely any now. Thoughts?
They lowered the volume by half a gallon in the Litter-Robot 3 and its the same on the 4.
So Original LR was 1½ gallon the LR4 is 1 gallon. They are supposed to be releasing a litter hopper that will hold up to 8 additional lbs of litter that will auto fill the LR4.
Litter Capacity for all models of the Litter-Robot:
Litter-Robot: ~9 lbs or 1½ gallons
Litter-Robot 2: 9 to 10 lbs. of standard clumping litter or approximately 1 ½ gallons of volume
Litter-Robot Open Air: ~8-10 pounds by weight or 1 ½ gallons by volume
Litter-Robot 3 / Litter-Robot 3 Connect: ~8-10 pounds by weight or 1 gallon by volume
Litter-Robot 4: ~8-10 pounds (3.6-4.5 kg) by weight or 1 gallon (4L) by volume
Lol honest review :). I have the litter robot 3. Why would you want a bigger opening? More sand will come out when the cat jumps out. And its a bit smaller inside too. Would be better they make i bigger inside. The motor is quiter but have they make it stronger? The robot will stop mid rotation if its to much clumps or sand in the unit.
The larger opening is nice for adding more litter and my cat has arthritis so she likes likes more space on the opening. They will be having a full door flap like add-on later on that would help lower litter tracking. Not sure on motor power but I haven't had any issues with larger clumps.
How does the unit ID the individual cat if you have multiple cats when tracking their weight etc? I'm not finding this answer anyplace.
It would. be cool if they could use the microchips but I really don't know. If I find out more information I will let you know!
Does it have a cloth lining inside? Looks like that fabric is falling down towards the litter when turning.
Great question! There is a metal disk at the bottom that forces it to fall down when cycling to help get any stuck litter off
So is it a vinyl liner or cloth and how can it be cleaned?
Its rubber / vinyl and you can clean it with mild dish soap or they sell a special cleaner that you can use as well.
@@BeardedTechGuy thank you.
You're welcome!
I don't see enough improvements to justify upgrading from the Litter Robot 3.
I agree, It's just enough if you wanted an excuse but if you have a LR3 that's working fine eh. Buying new though, I'd go for the LR4 over the LR3
Agreed and as someone who has never purchased a litter robot yet. I will be getting the 4 as my first one.
Can you use this with tofu litter? I wish the sifter was removeable for easy cleaning like on the Petkit robots.
As long as it's clumping and the clean litter can fit through the grates then it should work but I have never tried tofu litter.
I'm glad you found the video helpful! I'm honestly not sure which metal S you are talking about on the LR3. What sensor is it used with?
Bonnet removed
are you talking about the metal contact prongs on the bonnet? if so when I spoke with whisker about the contact points the bonnet won't have any at all. They also stated the DCI is all enclosed and internal as well as no more anti pinch contact prongs that always corroded.
I'm going to get this for my kitty at Christmas for her present lol. Anyone know by chance if these go on sale in November or before Christmas?
Does anyone know how much return shipping typically costs from within the US?
Off their website: "Determine your shipping method. You are responsible for return shipping costs. We can provide a return shipping label via FedEx for a $60 deduction from your refund (or $75 for home pickup). Please note, return shipments outside the contiguous 48 states may incur additional shipping costs." So you could shop around and maybe get it cheaper but if you go the FedEx return label route $60/$75 (for pickup) would be the max
@@BeardedTechGuy thank you!
Is the "key" that sits on the back of the block placed correctly? A lot of times that can cause issues.
Fixed.
This helped me decide; thank you!
I'm glad you found the video helpful!
4 months later. Does it still work?
I have not had any issues so far!
@@BeardedTechGuy glad to hear it. Been thinking about getting one
thank you for your prompt response to my question!! one more: do you know if a "ramp" will be able to attach to a LR4 with the step (versus the handle)? thanks and have a great day :)
Based on the image they released of it I believe the ramp will fit over the step ( imgur.com/WER2JqZ )
@@BeardedTechGuy I feel like a ram slope will be better than a step for senior/heavier cats.
Thanks for the discount!
You're welcome!
The litter hopper sounds awesome
It really does! I hope it works well
I’m debating on upgrading
If the cost makes sense to you then it could be worth it. The longer you've had your previous litter robot the more sense it might make as well!
The affiliate link for the discount is redirecting to the LR3, not LR4. Maybe due to back order?
So 2 cats wouldn’t mind sharing this ? I was told to get 3 litter boxes if you have 2 cats. I really want one of these
I've had the litter robot 3 for 5 years.
@@LezGrl79 thank you for replying I appreciate you . I’m sold , that was a huge concern of mine . Sorry for your loss .
The sound difference really persuaded me. I have a roommate so this thing will be in my bedroom.
Does it smell? Spill on the floor?
It won't do much in terms of odor trapping before cycling but after it completes a cycle I don't notice any smell from the litterbox. I haven't had any spilling issues from the litter robot cycling, but litter can still track depending on your cat and the litter you use.
Excellent video. Very helpful and easy to follow.
Glad you liked it!
AMAZING AND LOVE IT 100%
Thanks for the GREAT review!
The listed dimensions are:
LR3 - Height: 15" - 17" (depending on litter) Width: 20" Depth: 20"
LR4 - Height: 15" - 17" (depending on litter) Width: 19" Depth: 18"
So a little smaller
@@BeardedTechGuy hm so the dimensions of the LR4 are actually smaller... that's a little surprising. Do you find that this is largely offset by the larger opening on the LR4? I've witnessed at least one of my two 16 pound guys facing inwards on the LR3 before which makes me feel bad. Usually they will use it facing outwards though.
That is a plump kitty.
Great review, thanks. I tried your referral link, but it take off $25. Anyone get it to work?
Glad you found the video helpful! I just tried it as well and it appears to not be working.... I sent an email to them to see whats up and hopefully it's fixed soon.
If you are still looking for a discount I now have a working link you can use to save $25: bit.ly/SaveOnLitterRobot4
@@BeardedTechGuy thank you!
Great video! That thing is really cool
Glad you liked it!
Your cat stuck its head inside at 4:17 and it's still cycling. It contradicts what you claimed about the feature earlier in the video that it will stop.
It would probably stop if the cat got far enough in to be detected by the lasers. Or if it hit the pressure/weight button.
I have 2 siberians and use Litter Robot, they both loved it as it is fresh litter everytime. Clay litter works the best.
no mention of how many cats you have, or how long it lasted before you needed to clean it ...
Just 1 cat. I wipe down every two weeks or so and do a deep clean every 3 or so months. I recently released a video going over cleaning the LR4 which can be found here: ruclips.net/video/yy1eG_oyeGU/видео.html
@@BeardedTechGuy Thanks for such a quick response. Watching the cleaning video now :)
yes it is.
I just got a lr3 a year ago i guess i should’ve waited 😂 well i just wait for the lr5 lmao
haha!
Generic filters can be cut to fit even if you shove pieces in there. Its not rocket science is it?
I don't see why not, just an added annoyance compared to the LR3 where it was just a rectangle
I'll stick with cheap pine pellets.
How do you think this unit would handle a "high pee-er"? My cat likes to aim high.
I'm personally not sure. I've seen a few people mention they had high pee-ers that would pee out of the waste port that's towards the top.
You could pick one up to see what happens as they have a 90 day return policy BIT you have to pay return shipping which can be a bit pricey for a large bulky item like that.
Love it. Bought it. Coming in July.
I hope you enjoy it! Hopefully you were able to use the link in my description to save $25 off your order as well!
Bro I just got a litter robot ad
😂Was it for this video?
my god, the chonk
You must have been lucky enough to get an LR4 that actually works. Which is rare.
Maybe its worth, but not buyable in whole Europe. That's poor!
$700 ? Looks like $1090
Just checked and the Litter-Robot 4 shows $699.00 USD for me. They do sell bundles that come with furniture and bundles with two LR4 or with a Feeder-Robot that is within the 1,090 price range though.
This isn't an "honest" review.

Unless it actually takes the dirty litter out to the trash - nothing is worth $700.
