  • @cadriver2570
    @cadriver2570 2 года назад +10

    I hope this works. Litter Robot has a huge design flaw. In a normal box the waste is buried in litter which dries it out and masks the smell. Litter robot moves the waste to the drawer. Total false advertising for them to claim it reduces the smell. It’s way worse than any normal litter box.

    • @mimo4603
      @mimo4603 2 года назад +1

      Maybe worse for the smell but probably better for the cat's health (a clean litter box lowers the risk of UTI). Do you think it would help at all if you put a scoop of clean litter in the drawer when you replace the bag?

    • @cadriver2570
      @cadriver2570 2 года назад +2

      @@mimo4603 bad for my health though! My place smells when this is used, lol. I moved to a 30 gallon storage bin for a litter box which provides a huge space for litter. I think your suggestion would help, but I just can't justify wasting litter.

    • @mimo4603
      @mimo4603 2 года назад +2

      @@cadriver2570 I just sprinkle baking soda in the waste tray and that seemed to take care of the smell for us. But we also have a big bin we use for the other litter box--This video is similar to what we do except we just use a larger bin instead of the bottom tray and pad (ruclips.net/video/-mbFpPTFrZ0/видео.html).
      There's no automatic litter box that works with pine pellets but I like using pine pellet pellets with a sifting tray because pine litter is really cheap at Tractor Supply, there's no smell once you scoop out the poop, and you just top up with clean litter so no litter goes to waste. I'm not suggesting you make any changes to what you do, just wanted to throw another idea out there.

    Hey! I tested two scent reducers - the Target “up and up” brand and the one in this video. The target freshener made the smell worse! The freshener from this video has completely reduced litter smell. Of course there is still some smell from fresh feces before the LR3 cycle, but once it is in the tray all smell disappears. Thank you so much for this video.

    I have heard people like those so I might try it out. For now, I just sprinkle a good amount of baking soda in the drawer bag. That and using litter with activated carbon has made a world of difference. When I notice the smell again, I add more baking soda. It's cheap and effective.

    What I did with my litter robots - put foam weather strip, not the brushed kind, between the drawer and the litter robot. I think there's usually a seal there that comes off after a while. I put it all the way around and close the drawer. Change the filter attached to the drawer every couple of months and so far so good. I have a 7 cats and I've tried everything. This works for me.

      Karen , you’ll see that it will work. the problem is that the poop is exposed and the moisture in the poop is evaporating with the Oder along with it. the fresh wave basically attaches itself to the Oder and cancels it out. make sure to not cover the fresh wave.

    I don't have the LitterRobot but the PURA X also has a smell issue. I didn't notice while my kitty was getting used to it but once he started using it full time my roommate was saying it smelled awful. I was noseblind to it but when I came back home after one weekend away ... freaking HORRENDOUS!
    Wanted to burn my whole house down. Added baking soda to the bottom of the pan and the litter. It was better but started smelling like a dirty diaper.
    This though. Saw this at 2am and went to Target as soon as they opened. I put it directly in the tray, not outside the bag. And after 24hrs it smells like a normal house again. I'm curious to see how long it'll last before it needs to be replaced but such a nose saver. Thank you so much!!

    Unfortunately, I have a LR4 and the inside of the drawer isn't flat. I ordered this product and the size is about a third of the size in the video. I thought the smaller flat jars would be better but I would have to fold the bag too much and then the "waste" could be falling into the jar. I'm still trying to figure out a way to make this work.

    • @jorgef70
      @jorgef70  8 месяцев назад +1

      Here is what I would , transfer the product to a zip lock bag like the freezer ones, they are heavy duty, This way the product can conform. I would cut a large diameter straw (milk shake type) into 1" length strips. hot glue them to the bag at the top to act like a vent. I would use about 10-15 of them. hot glue the bag shut. that should last you about 3 months or more. The product is going to outgas and fill the tray compartment with particles that will basically cancel out the smell.

      Not sure, but I'd try not to introduce anything out of the ordinary because that might affect the way the cat uses the box. The scent in the video is pretty neutral when its in the tray. Remember to not cover the scent can with the bag. leave space so the scent can do its magic inside the tray.

    I love this idea! Thanks for sharing! I noticed you used the big size the 15 ounce? Do you buy the refills to just refill the containers? I absolutely love my litter robot 3 but I do notice that the room it is in does stink a little bit. For some reason I feel like I notice it more with this litter robot than the older model litter robot I had years ago. I think because there are vent holes that let the odor escape out of the drawer even with a new filter on. I only have one cat and I empty the drawer weekly. I have a pretty good sense of smell when it comes to unpleasant smells and I think this will work like a charm! Have a great day 😀 🐱

    Thanks for this video! I will order some for my litter robot. That is the main reason I am not happy with mine, the strong odor from the get go (I have owned it for 11 months). I have called them numerous times and the things they suggest do not work. I use Dr Elseys Ultra litter. I HAVE to change the bag every day!!! And still the smell is unreal! I just got through thoroughly cleaning it and putting it back together and as soon as they use it the smell floats right into the next room. It is at the other end of the utility room which is approx 14 feet long and the odor can be detected at 20 feet easily. I purchased a plug in ozone cleaner for the room and it helps but doesn't eliminate it. My 2 cats eat a grain free diet, mostly dried food but they share a small can of grain free wet cat food a day. I am still thankful I don't have to scoop. I just don't understand all the hype about it being odor free or reduced odor, because for me, it is not! I place an unscented dryer sheet in the bag every time I change it, don't think this helps. I can't do the regular dryer sheets because I can't stand the smell of the scented laundry supplies. Sooooo, I am real excited to try this. Cost does't matter to me! I am tired of the stinky odors! Thanks for this suggestion and I hope it works for me!!!

    I am surprised you find that it doesn't help with odor control - I cannot smell mine at all. What sort of litter do you use? We have had ours for 4 years. I did have to get new carbon filters. Thanks on the Fresh Wave recommendation. Wonder if the fumes would affect my cats at all? Are there any fumes from it? How often do you replace the Fresh Wave? My parents have problems with cat litterbox odor - but they don't have a LR3, so I want to just try it for them too! What does Coco eat? Coco is beautiful, by the way! What did you do with your LR 2?

    • @jorgef70
      @jorgef70  4 года назад +5

      Floppycats I guess everyone’s noses/smells is different. I have a small bathroom so it’s pretty confined. As you know the drawer where the cat litter is not 100% hermetically sealed. Odor will escape. My cat eats Royal Canin wet and dry. I use Arm & Hammer Dust control litter. There are no fumes that affect the cat Because the canister is inside the drawer. I change the fresh wave every 30 days. I think the fresh wave attacks the odor inside the drawer since it’s confined and doesn’t allow the smell to propagate outward. I think odor in nature has a negative ion and I believe the fresh wave puts out positive ion That basically cancel out the smell. What also tends to work and I have tried out is catch those humidity absorbing materials. I forget the name right now but you plug it in to basically charge up the device to remove all the trapped water and then once it’s done you place it inside the drawer. This will draw away any moisture from the litter and since you have no moisture you have no evaporation and hands no way for the smell to propagate. I did this for a while and it seem to work but it didn’t work for the week and a half. You had to charge up the device several times and it was just cumbersome. This fresh wave is a set it and forget it for 60 days. I hope I answered all your questions

      @@jorgef70 thanks, yes, you answered all of my questions. things that affect odor include: 1. diet of cat, 2. age of cat, 3. litter you're using, 4. humidity and air flow of area where litterbox is. i have added the fresh wave to my cart on amazon and will give it a whirl - of course, i never smell mine, so might not make any difference. since it's a two pack, i will give one to my mom and then try one out in one of my LRs. thank you.

      I am a retireed RN. You just have to learn to breath through you mouth when dealing with odors. I don't have a litter robot yet, but am doing my research before I take the final plunge. I'm convinced it's better than daily scooping.

    • @jorgef70
      @jorgef70  2 года назад

      sorry for just back to you now, I’ve been traveling. removing the bag takes 5 secs. very fast. because the can is inside the drawer, there is a higher concentration of the gel in the air around the drawer than outside the drawer. Sealing stuff is tough because of out gassing. when things decay gas gets generate. take it from me, buy the robot, you won’t look back on the purchase. dealing with cleaning the box is super fast. I know I spend more time vacuuming my 1st floor bathroom than cleaning the Litter-Robot. you are always going to get litter on the floor when they jump out of either box.

      Hi Chris, I fully understand where you are coming from. I was very frustrated as well. Honestly I don't think the litter is going to make a lot of difference. I use the arm and hammer low dust. There are different versions, I buy the one that's on sale via amazon. the secret is those canisters. The litter robot is worth the money, you save your time and you are saving litter as well. The smell is the only thing they did not address. As you can see from many peoples comments that it works. If you think about it, all of your cats poop and pee is now exposed with lots of surface area and its now concentrated. the tray is not hermetically sealed so anything that escapes is going to be potent. I tried lots lots of things but this solution hands down is a winner and will make your litter robot an enjoyment. Without it, I would be upset like you. let me know how it goes.

It’s a lot of money for a litter box so I want to make sure at least to no smelling crap coming out of it 😆, and yes Litter Box should take note of your content and incorporate a tray or space designated for this Gel container in the waste tray .

    I ended up getting rid of my LR. The amount of work you have to put in to remove smell is ridiculous. The reason why so many people have this issue is because it’s all plastic and rubber which is harboring bacteria. It’s not worth the hassle. I’d rather scoop manually from a metal litter box that doesn’t harbor bacteria instead of simply masking a smell. It’s an extremely overrated product. Waste of money. It’s a huge design flaw. Mine is lying in the garage now, best decision I ever made.

    I totally disagree. We've sent if back. The first robo litter is much much better. The smell is terrible, so much more the The first litter robot. The opening is much to large. The first litter robot doesn't need this fresh wave. Another engineering faillure is the small outlet for dropping the waste. The waste will 'hang' on the soft grey ledge, fitted in the base.
    Sadly I returned it because it looks much better the the old once and the noise is lower. But the smell was the main reason. The smell was not from the base but from the top. It is the 'smell' originated by doing his job and due to the large opening..... well, I think you get the message :-)

    • @jorgef70
      @jorgef70  3 года назад

      you are entitled to your opinion but my solution is a game changer, if the waste is too big to fit through the hole then I think it’s quite possible your cat is diabetic. that was the case with my original litter robot and I was experiencing that same thing. I had to modify the opening. the smell goes away for sure with my setup. look at all the positive feedback.
