Glad the Kayano 31 came out so early... so I can buy the Kayano 30 on sale. And not regretting my decision after hearing the K31 has a more prominent arch which my flat feet hate -- the K30 was one of the very few stability shoes that was well integrated enough to not irritate them.
@@GM-OIL I don't own the other two, but I suspect K30 will be the best as the other two both look like they have pretty aggressive medial sidewall implementations, particularly the Nike. Though whether you prefer high vs low stack height could also be a big factor in Adrenaline GTS vs Kayano
I really like the extra push in the mid foot of 31, I have flat feet now but used to have high arches so it feels so nice to get that extra kick. The most comfortable shoe I ever ran in, I hope it stays strong.
I have tried both 30 and 31 and they are very similar. The upper is thinner on the 31 and the reinforcements in the forefoot are a bit less intrusive. But I get some weird pressure below my forefoot in the 31´s and my right pinky toe aswell against the sidewall. The 31´s run a little smaller in size, with less room in front of the toes. I got the Kayano 30 wide version and it´s a bit too roomy in the upper of the toebox, making my toes wiggle upp and down while running, which aint optimal at all. In the 31´s, my feet feel a bit cramped. Haven´t tried the 31´s in wide though.
@@lassekarsholt6115 its the overall package, to me its supportive but the width helps make it a option for a passive to moderate stability runner. the SB is the shoe that rules them all, will have SB2 on launch
Thanks, Matt. I think I’ll be saving up for the K31 as the thinner material is more suitable to the tropical climate here in the Philippines 🇵🇭 cheers for the quick update!
I bought a Kayano 30 thanks to the sale brought about the 31. The 30 is still a new arrival in my country, so I went and got it from abroad. The 30's upper has a stiff sidewall / toecap in the forefoot mesh. Seems my left toes splay ever so slightly more than my right foot does, enabled by the wider fit in the forefoot area, but now it causes my pinky toe to rub against the stiff mesh. Formed a nasty blister after just the first 5K of running. Wondering if I can expect this to get better as the shoe breaks in or if I should expect to need blister protection throughout the shoe's lifetime.
Hi.. what's the difference between the men's and women's version of the kayano 31? I prefer the women's colorways that are available where I'm located, but not sure if there's a downside if I wear the women's version.. thanks..
Women’s version are narrower. You have to get wide to be the same as mens. However i see the the stack height is 1mm lower but this could be just for the smaller size women’s shoe and the corresponding to the men’s 9 to be the same stack height
Coming from the Saucony Hurricane 23, which was the most comfortable shoe I've ever owned (although the front of the sole started to dissipate and come off after a while, and sometimes my little toe hurts), should I go for a Kayano (if so, which one?), the Saucony Tempus or try out some Altra Provisions for stability and free foot movements (or advertised as such). Any opinions appreciated! Great vid!
Looks like Kayano 30 v 31, is in the same boat as the Adidas training shoes the Dropset 2 v 3. Newer versions are meh. Older ones are excellent. And now you can get last season's model for maybe $30-$50 off.
What you advice for overpronters planter fasciitis. Recently bought Asics gel kayano 31 on 20 August. Not happy it's doesn't have enough cushion over all. Infact my right legs around fingers area pain encounter which I never had before. New balance 1080 v13 or More v5 or Aetrex men chase. Or something which is better for standing 12 hrs daily. Thank you
so if the Kayano 30/31 is a good long distance training shoe but because of weight not a good racing shoe, what would you recommend for marathon race day? i have been running in Kayanos for ever as i need a good support shoe.
Gel Kayano31 has a poorer grip on a smooth flat concrete floor than the 31. I can't believe how much slip I had with 31 . So much that it was less a performance shoe and dangerous. The 31 is FAIL to me/us in sport. Sad to see this as I was a huge believer in the Gel Kayano. This has let us and the sport down.
@@Echom4-kr5el I feel the volume in the toebox is a bit too much for me in the 30¨s wide. But a bit too snug in the 31 normal width. Could 31 wide be better for me?
@@andyn6053 it sounds like it to me. I’d definitely try it.

I've flat feet, which one do you recommend me? Kayano 30, 31 or the Asics Cumulus 25 or 26??? Any help would be greatly appreciated because, sincerely speaking I'm a bit lost... 🤔😂
If stability is usually a concern for you, the Kayano 31 or 30 if you are on a budget is good. The cumulus is less stable but okay if you tend to run in other neutral trainers. If you are totally unsure the kayano - either model - is an okay place to start and as you can try other neutral shoes and see how you feel.
For anyone who likes to use 1 general shoe for all workouts in the gym, so you don't look like a nerd carrying two pairs... the Kayanos are not it! You get a serious amount of ankle wobble with them on. Makes doing squats awkward.
Kayano feels more stable but the Nimbus is more comfortable and cushion is so soft. I would recommend going to an asics store if you have a local one and try both.
Do you guys think u could do a video talking about the optimal foot strike for people with flat & high arches.? personally have flat arches and have been wondering whether or not mid-foot striking would be good or not?

These shoes do not have arches
I feel the same - the K30 is the only stability shoe out of the most popular ones around that doesn't irritate my really flat feet

Excellent, thorough comparison, as always!
Cant wait to see kayano 31 vs 860 v14
One thing I do not like is the 880 or 860, they should provide the Ortho lite insole same as the other brand, but for the other they are great.
I tried both the other day , 30 was waaaay better ,planning to buy it.
Thank you Matt for the comprehensive review
Fantastic review. Straight to the point. Thank you
not much changes on the 31. Just bought 2 30s. 1 for work and 1 for jogging.
I have 2 pairs of K30 too. 1 for daily & another for HIIT 😅
Literally forgot to mention the new and great Socks Liner which is an amazing update itself on these shoes .

Thanks Matt for another excellent review! Really helpful
sold the K30, just didnt work for me felt harsh vs GT2000 or my go to option NB 860. SuperBlast or HyperionMax half the time running.
Same! Does the superblast feel stable due to the firmer material?

Singapore here- was quite happy with my purchase of the 31!
Can you do a comparison of the Gel Kayano 31 and the new Saucony Guide?
I take your thoughts , thank you and let you know after 3 months how this goes
I like the darker colored 31 heal. The shiny white heal makes Kayano 30 look like elevator shoes.
The 31 is actually cheaper in some uk stores than the 30, glad I went for the 31s🎉
66 bucks does make a difference. The 30 is now selling for 99 on Amazon; some colors are a bit more though.
If you train with and need a stability shoe like the kayano, what is the recommendation for a racing shoe?
Matt please not HDR (my opinion). Thanks for the review
