I just got a bottle in Louisville this week and I think I scored a good one. I also picked a bottle of 1792 small batch and a Starlight BIB bourbon. I was fortunate enough to visit the Starlight distillery in Southern Indiana. FANTASTIC experience. From the ambiance of the tasting room to the hospitality and warmth of the staff, they hit on all cylinders. QUALITY bourbon. And the best part? The tastings consisted of any seven spirits they offered... FOR $16. 👍😳👍
After watching both part 1 and 2, it makes me realize we all search for different, unique bottles just because we’re all looking for “something “ only to keep finding disappointment’s. Thanks again for your honesty. The only caveat is that everybody has different tastes. For example, my blade and bow is about 1.5 years old and I loved it when I first bought it. And now 1.5 years later, it’s not in my wheelhouse anymore. Who knows what happened?
Ya thats a bit unusual. I have had some whiskey that I didn’t like but as my palate grew I came around to it. Example, peated scotch. We all have different palates that’s a fact.
Something funny- I keep an empty bottle of Willet and keep it refilled with evan williams bottled in bond which I buy in the big bottle. Makes them both better.
I happen to really like dark chocolate even the very dark bitter kind. But I'm not paying that much for a bottle of whiskey. Feel free to send that bottle my way.
My missus LOVES that Woodford Chocolate Rye, that bitter chocolate note was a huge hit for her. Price was like, double what it really should be and it wasn't really my jam but hey, she likes what she likes. Wish it was still around, the hunt continues for a replacement with that same profile for her!
Love the honesty! Just because a bourbon or whiskey is expensive doesn't mean it's good! Some of my favorites are "reasonable" daily drinkers! Keep up the great videos!
Another great review. I appreciate how you also point out how many of these were surprising disappointments from distillers who had delivered quality before, or products that didn't live up to the hype, in your (admittedly educated) opinion. On the other hand, you don't, to use an old phrase, "damn them from the altar", recognizing that other peoples tastes differ. This is why I like this - it isn't a "let's pick on the bottom shelf" session, but rather a "These didn't taste as good as their price tags suggested" session.
Love your broadcasts and your frankness. I am a relatively new Bourbon junkie and these help a lot! I also appreciate that you gave us a frame of reference on your dislike of dark chocolate.....Because I might like the Woodford, because I will only eat real dark chocolate. The higher the percentage the better! And once you get away from the sugary sweetness in fake chocolate bars there's all kinds of flavors just like in whiskey. Keep up the good work!
Willett Pot Still Reserve is a go-to for me. Great gift. I brought it to a blind tasting with friends and it scored third out of 14 bottles, so I don’t know what to tell you.
Nothing wrong with that my friend. We all have different palates and won’t always agree which makes the whiskey journey so much fun! I have had comments like you who defend the Willet pot still and comments who absolutely hate it. Probably one of those bottles that’s either loved or hated. As I always say drink what you like the way you like it! Nobody should ever stand in your way of a preferred whiskey including me. Thanks for your input!
Kurt, Your Honest and that means a lot. I have only been on my journey about a year. These help me so much. Thanks . Keep your glass full 🥃. Blessings from Gettysburg Pa…
Dark chocolate is an acquired taste. You have to start with the 65-70% stuff before you take on the 85% stuff. Seems like you need to be a 85% chocolate fan to try that Woodford Reserve bottle. Thanks for the video.
Another great video man! I saw the thumbnail and the shape of bottle #1 and knew immediately which bourbon that was. I can't agree with you more on your take and analysis, spot on. I bought the same bottle a year or so ago and was so excited to get home and try it. The excitement quickly disappeared on the first sip! I couldn't believe how bad this tasted! Love your channel man!
Another great review , the Willet you showed made me chuckle as I have the rye in the same style bottle. I haven’t tried it yet but I’ll let you know when I pop the cork . When I buy ryes I tend to buy 4 . 1 for me the others are stored for the future . My late wife use to tell me “ your never going to sell those so you may as well enjoy them . That went for my wine collection as well . About 2005-2006 I purchased 4 bottles of michter’s 10 year old rye . I still have 3 … anyway back then they went for around 80.00 a few years ago I checked the price ….. well I showed my wife and we both laughed when she said you better not drink those last 3 .😂😂😂
Lifted Sprits wheat is like acetone, and we were super bummed because it was from a "local" distillery. Heartfield & Co also was a bummer, the neck pour was delicious, like a root beer float, but after that , harsh and oily. Great video again!
Great review. I actually enjoy the Willet as do many of my friends. The Blade and Bow tastes like soap to me. Luckily in Tennessee a lot of liquor stores sample many sips so I don't often purchase something that I don't enjoy. Usually not on those higher ends though, that's the crap shoot part.
Very helpful info! I’ve had Blade and Bow in my hand multiple times but I’ve always put it back. You made me feel like I made the right decision! I had heard about how polarizing Willett pot still is - I bought a little 50ml sample bottle of it a year ago before investing $50 and I’m glad I did. I agree with your assessment!
Thanks for doing these Kurt. Word of mouth and other opinions are key for finding out about bourbons to try, and finding out about ones to let go by is key as well! You can only get to so many distilleries in a lifetime. We've done parts of the bourbon trail twice (we aren't close), but they are pretty spread out, and you only have so much abibe ability in a day, so it can't be all about what one has been able to try personally, so these videos really help. Plus, you guys keep it fun, so it's pretty entertaining at the same time. Keep it up!
A few weeks ago In Pennsylvania we had a "Special Release" of Willett bourbon family. Otherwise Willett is "unobtainium" in Pennsylvania. They all sold out in minutes. I was fortunate enough to purchase a few bottles. One of which was Willett Pot Still bourbon. This particular bottle is from Batch# 22C38. It is nothing like as you describe in this video. I would rate it at least a solid 4 out of 5. It is very flavorful and engaging. I am enjoying it a great deal.
I really like the video. I bought a bottle of blade and bow a few weeks ago and couldn’t agree more. The bitterness really turned me off. The 3 boys bottle makes me sad. They were my favorite experience in Kentucky. They don’t distribute and sell bottles from the thieving tastings. I bought a couple of bottles and love them. Keep up the good work with your videos. I really enjoy them.
Thanks so much! Actually, I am always happy when someone truly enjoys a whiskey experience. Just because I don’t like something doesn’t mean you can’t love it! You do you and enjoy!
I'm diggin' your vibe. Not new to bourbon but new to having a decent collection. I'm stealing your wall bar design. That's done! I'll have it up by Christmas. Thanks for the great content.
Kurt, I’m new within the last few months and love the information you give us bourbon drinkers! Love the videos a lot. Tell me, what does SLB stand for? Cheers, Joe in Scottsdale!
Truly appreciate this type of content. What a great example of opportunity cost: what could your money have bought you that would’ve enhanced your utility? Oh well. It may be yours now but that doesn’t mean you can’t share it with guests!
Just bought a bottle of Eagle Rare 10 yrs old watching one of your older videos. I feel like people really appreciate your honesty and hold your opinion in high regard. As a newbie, I'll stay away from these Boubons. On another note, It'd be great to have a video of you explaining Scotch, Irish Whiskey, Bourbon and Rye Whisky's labels. Greetings from Italy!
Wow thank you so much for joining us from. Italy! I have always wanted to visit Italy so maybe one day I will be able to. I sure hope you enjoy the Eagle Rare!
Really appreciate this series! There’s so much selection out there, it’s nice to be able to eliminate a few from the list. What not to buy is just as important as what to buy. PS disagree on Willett, it’s excellent to me. That’s why we all have different taste buds
I have to agree with you on the Willett .I know a lot of people enjoy this which is why I picked it up but it's not for me. Also didn't care for the Blade and Bow. The others I haven't tried and probably won't at those prices.
Remember guys he's not making a list of bad Bourbons he's making a list of Bourbons that he personally didn't care for that's a very important distinction.
Thanks Kurt for this review. I've been eyeing the first two and I'm glad I haven't given in buying it. I know everyone has a different pallet but sometimes you just have to take someone's word for it especially when you can agree on so many good bottles compared. Can't wait for the 3rd episode.
Thanks for this video. I've picked up B&B and the Willet a few times and grabbed something else. Woodford Double Oak, Malt and Wheat are some of my favorite lower priced sippers. Most reviews of $100+ Woodford's are usually not favorable on RUclips. The Chocolate Rye refers to a type of rye called Chocolate Rye. Balcones uses it in their Texas Rye and that doesn't seem to get any praise at all, just worst lists. I like other Balcones products but that one I'll stay away from unless I just can't something to buy. Maybe chocolate rye should just not be used. I love finished whiskeys and I love gin (my first love in spirits) but whiskeys finished in gin casks???? I'll pass. Could you do a 5 Scotches you've regret buying? Thanks. Love the channel by the way, Very earnest and down home.
Blade & Bow is one of my favorite low proofers, but it needs air. I find it much richer, sweeter and tastier a couple of months post-neck pour. Your bottle looks like there's just a sip gone, so it just might grow on you over time if you give it a chance.
Appreciate your opinions. I actually had a previous bb bottle a few years ago and gave it away. Had to buy this one just for the show but in the interest of digging deeper I will keep this one several months and see what happens.
The same for Cooper Craft 100 proof which is hot out of the bottle. Open bottle, taste the whiskey, and then let it sit for a couple of months. Try again. Now you'll have a whiskey that will stand up to Old Forrester whiskeys.
Kurt,I was thinking, which is dangerous in itself, but Calumet has a line of 6,8,14,15 and now 16 year aged bourbons. I have had the 8 and it's rather good,I bought 14 and 15 based on that but not crack them yet. Those two are over $100 ,the 16 comes in at $140 plus or minus. So ,they are a potential line for your show to sample.
I concur on the Willet and B&B. Gimmick bottles, not good juice. I knew what was coming when I saw a flavor profile on the 2 other bottles. The chocolate maybe. Maybe. But I have to bust your chops a bit for choosing something with orange and gin in the description. Good show; keep up the good work
The blade and bow I picked a month ago is pretty good. Not necessarily my go to but it tastes like it could be a BT product. It’s a very different profile than what you described, strange.
I know there will be quite a few with your opinion of this bottle. From past conversations this is one that’s split down the middle. I am glad you are enjoying the bottle!
Maybe they're bad, in your opinion, but i see, thanks to these ones, you learned something new about bourbon and that is a big plus to our knowledge about whisky.
Another fun video. Thanks for the entertainment. The 5 bottles you shown tonight, 4 of them are beautiful on the shelf at least haha. I do like the new Willett pot still mashbill. If that bottle you have is the old one, I recommend taking another stab at it with the new juice.
I bought a bottle of Willett when I was first getting into bourbons, and I loved it. I guess I have a natural inclination to wood flavors and alcohol burn has never bothered me. Tried many more great bourbons since, got a second bottle, couldn't stand it. Ended up using 90% of it in mint juleps. Bottle makes a great infinity bottle though XD
See I didn’t what he got from willet. I did find it smooth but for me there was a strong caramel flavor that just seemed so strong it seemed artificial. I couldn’t get past it.
Will have to try my son’s Willet🤣. Almost bought a bottle last week. If you are ever in Louisville Ky, go to thrvFrazier Historical Museum, which is the beginning of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Amazing collection of current and really old whiskey producers. Kentucky history, weapons collection, etc. it is located a few blocks from Peerless and other old distilleries. Thanks for the reviews!
INSTANT LIKE ! . . . i propose: Woodford Choc to spike yr evening coffee (like Irish coffee), the rest to marinate, in decreasing alcohol proof (1) veal (2) beef (3) fish, and (4) chicken ! ! hehe.
Agree on the pot still willett. Got a 1.75L from my realtor after selling our old house, think it retails for $85 locally and the bottle is cool but the juice isn't worth the price, esp @ $50 for a 750ml! I'll finish it using it as a mixer!
Maybe you got a bad year for the Willets. I bought one earlier this year and it was outstanding. (Paid a lot more than $50) Creamy vanilla notes and a nice smooth lingering finish that comes with the pot stilled whiskeys.
Very helpful for those like me that are just getting into bourbon and whiskey. I’m finding some that I liked early on are just not that good as I venture off to other brands.
I agree. Your palate def grows as you move along your journey. I remember when I tasted my first peated whisky and thought it was awful! Love a pour once in a while now.
Second time seeing a video of yours. The first one was the part 1 of this part 2 series and I enjoyed your honesty. So, I am a subscriber and hope to see and enjoy more of your reviews. Cheers.
Agree on the Willet fancy bottle. We've had one for three or more years and it just won't die. If it was just boring it would probably have been finished but it is actually unpleasant. If I ever saw the Woodford or Four Gate I probably would have just left them on the shelf after reading that lable; They don't sound appealing.
Thanks a heap, I nearly bought a couple of those, the Willet and the Woodford Reserve, generally I’m a big fan of Woodford Reserve I especially love their rye. Love your channel👍😉
I love your videos!!!! Have been wanting to get that Blade and Bow many times, Glad I kept putting it back. Thank you for all of your honest and great reviews!!!
Guilty: to having bought the Willett myself. Thankfully I bought it as a gift, and mostly because of the lovely bottle. Good thing that my dad, who I gifted it to, never opens the bottles that were presents. It looks great in the cabinet, I guess that's something.
All I can say is WOW on your review of Willet. I have been buying and drinking it for years and I never had a harsh or thin bottle. I think the price of around $60 a bottle in NJ is very reasonable given the quality I experienced.
Willet pot still is the only bourbon I have dumped out. I get a very cinnamon heavy note with a heavy ethanol hit. The hillrock from your first video I didn't buy but have the straight bourbon and think it is delicious.
Very interesting video, thank you! In Finland we do not get any of those. Which isn't a bad thing necessarily... That gin barrel finished bourbon was doomed to fail. Gin in just too overpowering.
I was told that the keys were widely scattered and that while it was easy to get 3 and 5 in Florida that the other 3 were hard to get. Supposedly if you have all 5 keys it gets you some big comp in Vegas at some bar or bars.
Thanks for saving me from the Willett pot still. I've been eyeing it up because of the highly regarded other Willett products. I'll spend my money on something else instead 👍
I saw a bottle of that Willet on a shelf a few days ago. I really liked the bottle, and almost bought it. I passed on it though, and bought two bottles of Rare Breed instead. I do enjoy Woodford Reserve double oaked. And need to pick up another bottle. I'll be sure to avoid the chocolate malted rye, unless I can get a pour first. I actually like dark chocolate though, so... I've not seen the other three. I'll remember to pass them by.
Agreed the pot still from Willett is a pretty bottle but more gimmick than substance. If you get a chance try the Old Bardstown line from Willett. It’s a wonderful budget sipper in my opinion
Have you considered doing something like a "Top 5 whiskeys I ALMOST regretted buying" video? An example of mine recently is Doc Swinson's Rye. The first couple pours I had were really disappointing. It's not an expensive whiskey, but I expected it to be decent. I was ready to give it away or just use it as a mixer. Well, a few weeks after those initial pours I went back to it just out of curiosity and wouldn't you know it... this thing is pretty good! I don't know if it opened up or my palette was just off before, but yeah I dig it now. Curious if you've had similar experiences.
Love the content Kurt. Thanks for the input. There are a few well stocked stores around me that often have hard to find or allocated bourbons to try. Also helps to keep me from getting the old stink eye from my wife if I can better reign in spending on certain bottles. Thanks again for another great video and helpful information. Someday I hope to have a well stocked bar as you. Cheers and keep up the good work.
the problem with 'chocolate' being a flavor is that a lot of people dont realize that chocolate is actually incredibly bitter😅 people always think it means chocolate bar and thats just not the case
Abby, if you are a fan of the dark chocolate as you described I bet you would like it. At first it has that nice Woodford double oak feel to it than transitions to the bitter chocolate.
@@vitalsteve1 - agreed. They have to water it down, so to speak, to produce candy milk chocolate. It is fun to watch some unsuspecting person bite into a 90% Cacao bar.
Considered purchasing a couple of these, in particular the Willett and the Blade and Bow glad to see these as part of my research into the purchase. Thanks.
@@slbdrinks haha ;) Well i'm new to describing the flavors and characteristics of a drink and was just trying to understand which word you were using. Would not want to guess at the word when trying out myself for first time. But if the parlance is truly either or then so be it.
Actually note is the word I was striving for. In this particular offering I found it to be a “bitter chocolate note”. I apologize but I thought you were referring to a pronunciation because I tend to not annunciate as I should at times.
Can't say that my taste agrees with yours on the Blade and Bow. Maybe you got a "faulty" bottle? I'd consider buying a pour at a bar when you have the chance before completely forgetting about it. BTW, we did a tour of the SW distillery three months ago and it was super AWESOME!!! Want to know some bottle I disliked at first but later it opened up and was great? Old Grand Daddy 114! I almost judged that one too quickly! Cheer Kurt
The woodFord chocolate has me curious because I like organic dark chocolate, but your description of Blade and Bow is spot on with my experience. Have you done a video on all of the Bulleits? Frontier, Rye, 10 year, and Barrel Strength
Believe it or not I have never tried the Bulleit baseline products. I do have a 10 yr and blenders select that I think is pretty good. If you enjoy a bitter dark chocolate the Woodford just might be good for you.
Don’t like the orange label bulleit, but the 10 year is the reason I continued learning about bourbon. To my taste it’s almost perfect. I’m still a novice though.
Just a little bit of information, the Bow from Blade & Bow is pronounced like the bow of a ship. It is one part of a key and the blade is the other! Cheers!
I toured the Woodford distillery in the fall of 2018. We sampled three items and the double oak had the nicest overall taste and finish, but I wasn't terribly impressed by any of them. None were bad by any means, but I didn't feel the urge to go out and buy them either.
Toured Woodford in 2005. Best taste of the tour was the ‘white lightning ‘ stage, I think it was about 160 proof. Smooth! I think some of these companies are simply trying to appeal to a broad customer base. The result is bland, overpriced whiskey .
Always interesting to see other people taste in whiskey. I agree with you on the Willet. To me it has this bad off-flavor that I cant quite put my finger on, almost metallic or medicinal. I do enjoy B&B though.
what do you do with those bottles? Do you offer it to friends / anybody to verify how terrible it is, or do you just keep 'em for show and tell? Thanks for your opinion.
Good show. I came close to pulling trigger on that Willett a couple times, with one of them being at the distillery, now glad I didn't. I was gifted a bottle of the Blade and Bow a few years ago, and it didn't impress me at all, so it's sitting behind the bar mostly full with a few others that I don't care for. The only bottle that I have which I think is really undrinkable is a Very Old Barton 80 pr. I couldn't even finish a glass of it. Maybe it was a bad bottle or something, but I think it was just awful! Thanks for the good episode!
Got a bottle of blade and bow on 2018 and I loved it, got another bottle in 2019 and I loved it, got a bottle this year and it was way different, idk what happened but I can see you hating it if you bought it this year
Great videos and info thanks! I just started getting into drinking boubons neat so always like to find reviews of what is good and bad. You did mention you are a gin fan. I love gin and was wondering if you would every do your top 5 favorites or maybe your favorite for certain cocktails and ones to drink on the rocks. I understand the gin crowd is quite smaller then wiskey/bourbon so you might not get the views you would like so understand if you don't make one.
I would love to do that! My opinion is every video cannot be a hit. I also want this channel to be diverse to a certain point so we already have a couple things in mind but I really do like this idea. May be a few weeks but let’s do it!
@@slbdrinks Awesome can't wait thanks! The other great par about recommending Gins is I can probably easily find and buy it unlike the current bourbon market sadly.
That Willett pot still junk was the first bourbon I ever had and it put me off bourbon for years. I finally started dipping my toe back in after drinking mainly scotch and rye. I have a buddy who is a bourbon tasting savant helping me along and we've found some high rye bourbons to bridge the gap. I think I'm finally starting to enjoy the style, but I don't think I'll ever like the REALLY sweet stuff or the ones that taste like oak and vanilla with nothing else. I may get that dark chocolate rye, though. I hate milk chocolate and LOVE the dark stuff, the darker and more bitter the better!
See your palate is probably different than most but nothing wrong with that! The good thing is you recognize that and purchase accordingly rather than sit and wonder why you don’t like what most people do. Kudos to you!
You just saved me 50.00. Blade and Bow has been popping up in my area and I was going to grab it! I fell for the Pot Still already. The bottle was intriguing!
Now you got to remember this is just his opinion blade and bow is actually very very highly reviewed and received and it's true that your individual palate might not like it just as his didn't but it should be made clear that blade and bow is a very well received and well reviewed bourbon and it is loved all over the country. He's not making a list of bad Bourbons he's making a list of Bourbons he didn't like.
I have that bottle coming up Thursday I think. I wouldn’t put it as my favorite but it’s ok for the price. We won’t always agree on everything though so that’s ok.
I like how you cut through the nonsense and get to the point: "This bourbon's lousy". No dancing around the point, no attempts at dressing up the conclusion. I think Blade & Bow is totally worth it. I really haven't tried the WR, but I love dark chocolate, so I'm gonna grab that when/if I see it.
Blade & Bow hasnt been consistent. Ive had really good bottles...and some extremely horrid bottles. Hopefully soon they'll get it together.
I just got a bottle in Louisville this week and I think I scored a good one. I also picked a bottle of 1792 small batch and a Starlight BIB bourbon. Mixing cocktails is a good strategy to redeem a whisky you don’t like. Glad to hear you mention it.

I can honestly say it is one of the worst pours over 100 I have had. Luckily I got to sample it and didn't buy one

I enjoyed the review! I have only drank 1 of the 5...Blade & Bow, which I thought was a decent bourbon. I love the bar setup!
Thanks I really appreciate that! Every palate is different that’s for sure so glad you were able to enjoy the bb!
Lifted Sprits wheat is like acetone, and we were super bummed because it was from a "local" distillery. Heartfield & Co also was a bummer, the neck pour was delicious, like a root beer float, but after that , harsh and oily. Great video again!
Sounds rough! Thanks for watching!
Wow how nice to have a store that hosts tastings! Wish we had that here. Thanks for your input!
Good idea getting that little bottle as a taste test!
Keep it up!
Thanks so much for your kind words!
Is the woodford good in a cocktail? I think some simple syrup might balance the cocoa and might taste pretty good.
I am sure you can come up with a pretty tasty cocktail using the Woodford. Highlight the chocolate note and tone down the bitterness with syrup.
I’ve eyed that Willett pot still bottle several times, but won’t anymore. These videos are very helpful and I’d love to drink at your bar.
Sometimes I wish I had a commercial bar and not in the basement. Would love to meet the folks on this channel!
I'm diggin' your vibe. Not new to bourbon but new to having a decent collection. I'm stealing your wall bar design. That's done! I'll have it up by Christmas. Thanks for the great content.
That’s awesome! Would like to see a picture of it when your done. Thanks for checking in.

That’s awesome buddy! Wishing you all the best! I subscribed as well.
Kurt, I’m new within the last few months and love the information you give us bourbon drinkers! Love the videos a lot. Tell me, what does SLB stand for? Cheers, Joe in Scottsdale!
Yo Curt...love tour channel ... tried your Hunter cocktail and it instantly became my favorite. Thanks for accelerating my debauchery.
Fantastic! Glad you loved the cocktail!
Love the content! Glad I haven't seen any of these except Willetts (well over $100) in NZ.
Amazing the price?? Wow.
I really want to try that woodford now
Great video. Totally agree with the cedar note on the Willett. It seems so thin and metallic.
Did to me as well. From the comments my guess is at least 80% agree with us.
Truly appreciate this type of content. What a great example of opportunity cost: what could your money have bought you that would’ve enhanced your utility? Oh well. It may be yours now but that doesn’t mean you can’t share it with guests!
Exactly! Great take!
The only one of these that surprised me was the Blade and Bow. I quote enjoyed it, but I did buy mine a year or so after this.
Great content as always. If possible kindly do a list of best Tennessee whiskies you have tried please 🙂
Good idea!
Remember guys he's not making a list of bad Bourbons he's making a list of Bourbons that he personally didn't care for that's a very important distinction.
this is true, but i happen to agree on all of these bottles. all of them are underwhelming or downright awful.
I disagree with your comment when tells people don’t buy it because it’s garbage. However we all do have different tastes.
Disagree, he repeatedly says several time avoid this garbage.
False.
Taste in subjective mates
Thanks Kurt for this review.
I've been eyeing the first two and I'm glad I haven't given in buying it.
I know everyone has a different pallet but sometimes you just have to take someone's word for it especially when you can agree on so many good bottles compared.
Can't wait for the 3rd episode.
Appreciate it thank you!
Thanks so much for the kind words! Agree with the failed gin experiment and I love gin as well.
Oh by the way I am currently working on that regret scotch list!
@@slbdrinks that’s great. Thanks!! 🥃
Blade & Bow is one of my favorite low proofers, but it needs air. I find it much richer, sweeter and tastier a couple of months post-neck pour. Your bottle looks like there's just a sip gone, so it just might grow on you over time if you give it a chance.
I agree with you, b&b needs a little time.
That would be an incredible lineup!
I concur on the Willet and B&B. Gimmick bottles, not good juice. I knew what was coming when I saw a flavor profile on the 2 other bottles. The chocolate maybe. Maybe. But I have to bust your chops a bit for choosing something with orange and gin in the description. Good show; keep up the good work
It had me at gin.,,
Lol, I do love gin but that was def a stupid purchase!
Busted chops taken and deserved!
@@slbdrinks I might just have to revisit it tonight 🥃. Really liking the channel
Maybe they're bad, in your opinion, but i see, thanks to these ones, you learned something new about bourbon and that is a big plus to our knowledge about whisky.
That’s 💯 correct. Everything in life is a learning lesson same with whiskey. My purchasing habits have changed dramatically since those days.
Another fun video. Thanks for the entertainment. The 5 bottles you shown tonight, 4 of them are beautiful on the shelf at least haha. I do like the new Willett pot still mashbill. If that bottle you have is the old one, I recommend taking another stab at it with the new juice.
I have heard the same from others so I will do that!
Saved me some money...again!!! Love the blunt honesty...keep it up. Also, very jealous of the bar...spectacular! Keep at it!
Thanks so much! Appreciate the kind words!
It is an epic bottle design!
Couldnt disagree more on the Willet. Its smooth and has chocolate notes to it, love that bourbon.
That’s absolutely ok. We don’t all have the same palate and am glad you enjoy the bottle.
Thanks for your input!
I love Willet bourbon, bought it on a lark to support a local shop and picked the weird bottle. What a great bourbon surprise!
Yea I absolutely love that bourbon!
See I didn’t what he got from willet. I did find it smooth but for me there was a strong caramel flavor that just seemed so strong it seemed artificial. I couldn’t get past it.
Disagree. But I love their rye.
Love your channel and videos! Been building my bourbon collection and all your vids are very helpful!!!
Thanks!
Will def hit that up next time I am in town! Also, try before you have an opinion if possible. I don’t like the willet bourbon but you may. Take care.
INSTANT LIKE ! . . . i propose: Woodford Choc to spike yr evening coffee (like Irish coffee), the rest to marinate, in decreasing alcohol proof (1) veal (2) beef (3) fish, and (4) chicken ! ! hehe.
That’s awesome lol!
Agree on the pot still willett. Got a 1.75L from my realtor after selling our old house, think it retails for $85 locally and the bottle is cool but the juice isn't worth the price, esp @ $50 for a 750ml! I'll finish it using it as a mixer!
Bummer, you have the same opinion as mine on that bottle.
Maybe you got a bad year for the Willets. I bought one earlier this year and it was outstanding. (Paid a lot more than $50) Creamy vanilla notes and a nice smooth lingering finish that comes with the pot stilled whiskeys.
Happy you liked it! The bottle I had was probably 1 1/2 old so good point.
That Woodford Chocolate Rye actually sounds really good! I don't mind unsweetened dark chocolate bars at all. I'd take that off your hands if I could!
Cheers.
Thanks so much for joining us! Hopefully we can all learn a few things along our whiskey journey! Appreciate you!
Agree on the Willet for sure. Sometimes a particular bottle just doesn’t jive with your particular palate.
I have a rabbit hole the sherry cask px and I'm putting glitter and fine colour sand
Thanks a heap, I nearly bought a couple of those, the Willet and the Woodford Reserve, generally I’m a big fan of Woodford Reserve I especially love their rye. Love your channel👍😉
Thanks so much! I really like most all Woodford myself also. This one just wasn’t for me.
I love your videos!!!! Have been wanting to get that Blade and Bow many times, Glad I kept putting it back. Thank you for all of your honest and great reviews!!!
Appreciate that so much!
Guilty: to having bought the Willett myself. Thankfully I bought it as a gift, and mostly because of the lovely bottle. Good thing that my dad, who I gifted it to, never opens the bottles that were presents. It looks great in the cabinet, I guess that's something.
Lol I understand completely! The bottle is stunning!
Whew, I was looking at a Four Gate - thanks for the heads up. I put the money back in my pocket and am looking for a Bunnahabhain 18-year.
Love my Willet. Blade & Bow I agree (at first sip), but have found it’s drinkable as my 2nd pour of the evening.
Glad you enjoyed them!
All I can say is WOW on your review of Willet. I have been buying and drinking it for years and I never had a harsh or thin bottle. I think the price of around $60 a bottle in NJ is very reasonable given the quality I experienced.
Glad you enjoyed it but it’s just not for me but we all have our own individual palate.
Yep, love my Willet. Different strokes for different folks.
Absolutely! I wondered why Willets wasnt in the first video!
another terrific video, many thanks for your honesty and great presentation. Jenny in Wales,UK
Thank you Jenny!
Great video Kurt!!!
And some good info with a honest review! Love the content Kurt!!! Cheers my friend!!!
Thanks so much and truly appreciate your involvement in the show!
Been loving your vids as I just started getting into bourbons. Have you guys tried Kavalan whiskey (solist line) ?
You had some bad ice when drinking the willett, I really enjoy it
I am glad that you like it!
Willet pot still is the only bourbon I have dumped out. I get a very cinnamon heavy note with a heavy ethanol hit. The hillrock from your first video I didn't buy but have the straight bourbon and think it is delicious.
Sounds good! Glad you liked that one!
Great video Kurt. You saved me (and some other folks) a lot of money.
Thank you! Hope you and your family are happy and healthy!
Very interesting video, thank you!
In Finland we do not get any of those. Which isn't a bad thing necessarily...
That gin barrel finished bourbon was doomed to fail. Gin in just too overpowering.
Your 💯 right! I truly love gin so it caught my eye but it was def not a match made in heaven!
Kurt your videos keep getting better and better. Congratulations!! I’m thoroughly entertained watching them. Keep up the great work.
Thanks Sosh! Not rocket science just trying to keep it light and have a good time! Take care my friend!
I was told that the keys were widely scattered and that while it was easy to get 3 and 5 in Florida that the other 3 were hard to get. Supposedly if you have all 5 keys it gets you some big comp in Vegas at some bar or bars.
I know there was something about the keys if one would collect all but wasn’t sure what.
Thanks for saving me from the Willett pot still. I've been eyeing it up because of the highly regarded other Willett products. I'll spend my money on something else instead 👍
Good choice in my opinion!
It $10 whisky in a $30 bottle, good for bourbon and coke though.
Great choice on the rare breed! If you do like a dark chocolate bitter note that Woodford might be for you. Excellent idea to try it first!
Agreed the pot still from Willett is a pretty bottle but more gimmick than substance. If you get a chance try the Old Bardstown line from Willett. It’s a wonderful budget sipper in my opinion
I will do that! Thank you!
Interesting idea. Basically, a bourbon or whiskey that is much better after the bottle has been opened for a while. Hmmm. Good idea!
I am sure you will just give it some time! Thank you!
I think it's awful
I really like super darl chocolate, like 85% or 90% Cacao. I wonder if I would like that particular Woodford.
the problem with 'chocolate' being a flavor is that a lot of people dont realize that chocolate is actually incredibly bitter😅
people always think it means chocolate bar and thats just not the case
Abby, if you are a fan of the dark chocolate as you described I bet you would like it. At first it has that nice Woodford double oak feel to it than transitions to the bitter chocolate.
I want the candy bar lol!!!
Good point my friend!
@@vitalsteve1 - agreed. They have to water it down, so to speak, to produce candy milk chocolate. It is fun to watch some unsuspecting person bite into a 90% Cacao bar.
Very informative, very amusing (at your expense, obviously). Subscribed.
Appreciate that and that’s ok! I have learned in my lifetime if you can’t laugh at yourself at times your taking yourself to seriously.
Considered purchasing a couple of these, in particular the Willett and the Blade and Bow glad to see these as part of my research into the purchase. Thanks.
Wasn’t for me that’s for sure!
Everyone is different, but I think blade and bow is pretty good. 🤷♂️
is it a chocolate 'node' or chocolate 'note' ? thanx and enjoy your videos.
Could be both lol! Appreciate ya thank you
@@slbdrinks haha ;) Well i'm new to describing the flavors and characteristics of a drink and was just trying to understand which word you were using.
Cheer Kurt
Thanks for your opinions! We can’t all have the same palate that’s for sure so I am glad you enjoyed the bottle!
@@slbdrinks tried std bullet for the first time and felt like it’s a total drain pour!
Don’t like the orange label bulleit, but the 10 year is the reason I continued learning about bourbon. To my taste it’s almost perfect. I’m still a novice though.
@@johnlassiter937 I totally agree.
I do enjoy the 10 yr Bulleit as well.
Just a little bit of information, the Bow from Blade & Bow is pronounced like the bow of a ship. It is one part of a key and the blade is the other! Cheers!
Good info! Had no idea lol
I toured the Woodford distillery in the fall of 2018. We sampled three items and the double oak had the nicest overall taste and finish, but I wasn't terribly impressed by any of them. None were bad by any means, but I didn't feel the urge to go out and buy them either.
I am with you. I do have a double oak that I like but would not say is in any of my favorites.
We are all different that’s for sure. Glad you enjoy the bb.
what do you do with those bottles? Do you offer it to friends / anybody to verify how terrible it is, or do you just keep 'em for show and tell? Thanks for your opinion.
Most I give away to others who may like it. Never want to waste it or pour it down the drain.
Your welcome and thanks for your input!
Got a bottle of blade and bow on 2018 and I loved it, got another bottle in 2019 and I loved it, got a bottle this year and it was way different, idk what happened but I can see you hating it if you bought it this year
Yes it was this year. Just wasn’t for me.
I have had the Four Gate finished in Sherry Cask. It was really good. I wouldn’t touch any bourbon with a Gin Finish
Ya good idea. I really do love gin so I convinced myself it would have to be good lol. Wrong.
@@slbdrinks lol
You just saved me 50.00. Blade and Bow has been popping up in my area and I was going to grab it! I fell for the Pot Still already. The bottle was intriguing!
Ya the bottle is pretty cool I will give it that. BB just wasn’t for me.
Absolutely love these types of videos. I’m starting my bourbon collection and my not so good to my palate was 1792. It’s to bitter for me.
I have that bottle coming up Thursday I think. I wouldn’t put it as my favorite but it’s ok for the price. We won’t always agree on everything though so that’s ok.
The background music you always have playing reminds me of the Charlie Brown Christmas special. Kinda like it.
Ha! Now I have to listen closer.
@@slbdrinks it's good though. Sets a nice laid back relaxing mood.
