I have to agree with you on your review of Diplo. I have it. I've listed as one of my favorite. I haven't had it in months. Now that I've tasted other Rum, I just don't bother going back. One dimensional is a good description. My go to is Plantation XO and Appleton 12 in a honey soother. What's even more interesting is that I want another bottle of Appleton 8 and 12. I see some interesting cocktails in my future.
Yup the base spirit is definitely vodka. I have had Mr. Black in Australia and I loved it and brought some back a few years ago but I am really shocked that Mr. Black still isn't making it available in Canada. We want Mr. Black and plenty of it. Some other coffee liqueurs are just too sweet and I don't bother with them - Kahlua being one of them. I err on cocktails being less sweet. Seleccion De Familia is a very nice sipper. It only have half the amount of sugar compared to the Reserva Exclusiva. It actually have the same amount of sugar as the Plantation XO (Swedish state monopoly is now required to state sugar levels for the items in the standard assortment). It's a very different rum compared to the Reserva altogether. Swedish distributor told me a bit about it. Diplomatico Mantuano is also a really nice rum for rum and coke (it's a little bit less sweet than Plantation Original Dark) and the Diplomatico Planas is a powerhouse for mojitos and daiquiris. I don't care for the Reserva at all.
@@StevetheBarmanUK it is flavoured. in the past some lab tests showed added vanillin in zacapa, don papa had as extra added glycerine ... rum is flavoured (as in case of legendario 9y). similar as a spiced drink 🤔. my point is that spiced at the end means flavoured not through the cask or filtration.
13:04 of course you can buy Mr Black in Germany / the EU... why wouldn't we?! Let's not forget this is a channel about Rum and part of the people here are alcoholics...

Havana Club 37.5% is in countries with very high alcohol taxes to keep the price around the same (here in Sweden for an example).

dos maderas is sweetened with sherry/ px, so it is more a spiced rum.

yes, but they added also (sugar cane) honey 😀 (should be sweeter taste than sugar).
not sure if tested diplomatica is actually a rum in eu 😁.
