- Delaware was the first state to be inducted into the United States of America. That’s pretty cool (and happened a long time ago by American standards). Delaware is one of those “in-between” states that sits right on the border of the Southern and Northern states. Meaning that it’s food, amongst other things, are influenced by different pieces of American culture. Delaware and “slippery” dumplings, however, you can thank the Southern influence for. Let’s get slippery. 🤘🏻Adam

it blows my mind you dont have millions of views of these videos! really love the content
Thank you my dude!
Agree with this statement!
This is how my grandmother made her dumplings! It's a vivid memory of watching her cut the dumplings. I am so excited to see this. My grandmother is from Delaware so this all makes sense now!
We also have our own variation of this I South Africa, though I doubt its very popular. Its so good! We use sunflower oil, not vegetable shortening but it still comes out good. Its very interesting to see an American variation.
Idaho resident here, and I was hoping to make this suggestion. Now there is no dispute that the potato is king in this state. However instead of doing a plate of mashed potatoes, or French Fries, or potato salad, might I suggest Potato Doughnuts. These doughnuts can have their sweetness cut with this state's fruit, the huckleberry. As for our state dish, that is Finger Steaks; either a mini version of Chicken Fried steak, or battered and fried slices of beef tenderloin. And finally, Idaho also leads the nation in Trout production. So, yea.
Interesting. As a person who’s lived in Delaware for almost 20 years and does a lot of finding food to eat I’ve never seen this served anywhere. Looks good though.
Mom and pop diners are the only place I know of that still do them. They’re delicious and show a true history of the state
You'll find them in sussex county. Grew up eating these from my mom and grandmother. He does a good job. I personally like using the chicken fat and juice instead of the crisco for the dough. I also leave out the herbs. But would add them probably for a normal stock for soup just not chix and dumplings..bouillon helps as well
It is more the kind of thing you eat at home. Comfort food, like mom made.
I've had it, shits good af
Cosmo's Restaurant.
I grew up my entire life, 24 years, in southern NJ in a little town called Pennsville. It's the first exit when you come off the Delaware memorial bridge. 0:08 is just about what my view was for 15 years til I moved to across the street from the state park in town, Fort Mott.
If my American history teacher had used food, I probably would remember more American history. I'm still at a loss for something for Wyoming. I'd suggest antelope, but.... I hate it, haha! Awesome job, dude, you're incredibly talented.
Thank you Chasette!
I don't think you'd want this, but they are known for their "Rocky Mountain Oysters" aka calf testicles. Not something I'll ever try, but if that doesn't help you remember Wyoming, not sure what will. 😆😆😆
Really comfy video! i'm not even american, but i'm loving this series
Looking foward for the next one!
Thanks dude! American or not, doesn't matter to me. Thanks for watching.
In Texas, obviously the most common way of making dumplings is what you're referring to as the "Southern" way, but I've seen quite a few people make them like this. Never thought it was from a Northern influence, just thought it was a slightly easier way to make dumplings. Interesting.
This looks delicious
Damn! That looks DELISH!!!
I grew up in the south Chicky and dumplings are our comfort food. This style looks interesting and delicious!
Super
I actually had this when I lived in Delaware - it was a fund raiser dinner done by a fire department. Being from SC I had never had dumplings like this and they were absolutely incredible. They served them on mashed potatoes and gave you a styrofoam cup of dumplings and gravy to go with it. Absolutely fabulous, thanks so much for this recipe! Btw if you hit South Carolina, do either Macaroni Pie or mustard barbeque sauce. You've never had better. :)
Each year when we put up a new calendar, one of the first things to be marked down was our church's annual chicken & dumpling supper... 2nd Wednesday of Nov.
This video is full of nostalgia and memories. Thanks for that.
The slick dumplings tend to be an Eastern Shore thing. They are delicious!!
That's so funny you claim it's not "southern". We grew up with these in Deep South Georgia and even my dad did as well back in the 40s and 50s.
Great vid, witty and informative, great production values. (A pizza roller... why didn't I think of that!)
IMHO baking powder is totally unnecessary, too much and I can taste it, and you'll end up with wet soggy biscuits, not slick dumplings, leave it out, they'll be fine. (Argument over this may have contributed to the outbreak of the Civil War.)
Non-traditional: Incorporate flecks of dried or fresh herbs in the dumpling dough. Parsley, sage, rosemary or thyme... (like the song ;-) pick one or two... and a little goes a long way, along with big coarse cracked black pepper, which should hit as an occasional surprise.
Came for the dumplings, stayed for the Volcom references.
New Mexico - Green Chile Cheeseburger
Fire
NJ Thin crust Pizza or Italian Hot Dogs
Colorado Green Chili
As a Non-Delawarean, for me it's just noodle soup... 😅🤷🏻♂️
I had this when I first migrated to Delaware from Kentucky. I didn't like the slippery dumpling. Southern dumplings are better. If you don't want to go thru the fuss of making homemade biscuit style dumplings you can buy a can of Pillsbury Grands or Buttermilk biscuits, cut them into fourths and toss them in the pot of chicken 'stoup' in the about the last half hour of cooking. Keep the lid closed.
I prefer thinner dumplings like this. I don't like thick gooey super doughy ones
20 minutes to make the soup??? It took me 4 hours and have yet to make the dumplings bc idk how to roll the dough without my kitchen looking like a certain scene in Scar Face!
Very strange dumplings 😂
President Biden is from Delaware, and when I looked up his favorite foods I discovered there's a Delaware cheese steak kind of sandwich called the Bobbie. (Not interested in political comments, pleez.)
Cheese Steak has no political party. I'm into it.
As a current Delawarean, the Bobbie is no mere cheese steak. It is a turkey, stuffing cranberry sauce, melted cheese goodness that is only done right by capriottis and a few mom and pop shops.
It is inside the same style of hoggie that cheese steaks are known for, and it is incredibly good
@@browdiewilliams328 as a current Delawarean, thank you. I am going to eat one of these a week from now on, as I am pregnant and can make such demands upon my husband.
@@kiwik2951 definitely recommend capriottis Bobbi and ask for it hot. (If you’re in the Dover area the one next to the base is the best)
So "Chicken & Slicks" or "chicken & pastry"
Third
Looks good, but lacks vegetables. Shortening is a no no. It's a fast track to heart disease. Much faster than butter. You'd be better off with organic lard.
