Just upgraded to the wide max kit..... love it. Much more stable in the turns. Also upgrade your drive shafts. Am loving my maxx. Best truck I've owned. Blast to bash !!
Not so sure I would spend the money to only get a small amount of performance out of it. But thank you for showing how to make the change if people would like to do it. You sure do have a good time making your videos.
Hey I ordered my Maxx yesterday. I was worried about spending this amount for something that would not be worth it but your videos have been very informative.
@bill Perrin not landing in the throttle self fighting breaks them and how do you not understand that moving the arms out make the shafts weaker very simple concept 🤔
I have Stampede 4x4 VXL and it's awesome, but it's old. I have half of dozen cars, but Maxx will replace Stampede inn future as a monster basher, but I 'll be sure that I won't regret it.
I do not have a max but sway bars make a big difference in roll on my slash 4x4's, if they make them for the max. Keeps side bite down and helps it slide instead of flip. I thought I did not need it and it was for the racers out there but it really helps and cuts down on my walking the walk of shame. Good looking truck though. Enjoy your videos for the info and experience of things I have in my wish list.
Slash 4x4 can not be compared with maxx and e-revo. those cars are so heavy and fast that it is a totally differend feeling. I sold my e-revo 2.0 because i like slash 4x4 ultimate better. with slash you can drive much wilder. if i did that with my e-revo it would roll over all the time.
Good install vid. The shock oil is VERY easy to change out in these shocks. My Maxx handles VERY good with this setup. 80w oil in all 4 shocks, wide kit springs on rear shocks and leave the stock front springs on. This makes the pack and rebound even. Learned this from Earl Moorhead. I still have stock diff oil though. Earl does not. I mounted shock bottoms in stock inside hole. Play with your shock ride hight adjustments to suit your terrain. Anybody is free to check my latest vid on Maxx out.
Yeah wish I could have seen how yours looked right after install regarding the lower rear end with the shorter shocks installed to help confirm I did mine right. I got it done and was questioning weather or not I accidentally mixed up the front n rear shocks when I installed the new springs on rear cause it just about sat on the ground in the rear like you were saying.
So on my maxx on the front fenders in the crease, I'm having problems with the shock tower hitting the under side of the body and putting holes in it. Any suggestions?

Nice review. It’s a MT. it’s going to roll though. Just depends how you drive it. Love mine with the standard arms. 👍🏻 Had an ERBE. Was sick of that platform and wanted a 1/10 to throw about.
If you all want this rig to run properly, run 500k diff fluid in the rear, lock the center diff. Those two alone will make a HUGE difference. Then maybe add the wide kit and a better servo
With 1/10 scale and 4s you must be kind on the trigger.. also better if you reduce the preload of the springs to get the benefits from the wider kit installed imho.. cheers buddy
Did you put the new springs in the back? And did you put the 60 wait shock oil on the back. It's not that will make a huge difference. It needs that heavier shock oil because it has more leverage With the longer a arms.
They are very different. Its not really fair to compare them. The Maxx is closer to an E Revo really. The Maxx is just so quick and gets up to speed so much faster than the Xmaxx, and it does flips and such.
maxx you can hit 55mph out of the box without changing the gearing. 4x4 vxl you can only hit 40mph out of the box unless you change the gearing which is only recommended for asphalt. The maxx is only $130 more and has a better suspension and way more power for off-roading.
Have you had any of the axles break after installing the Wide Maxx kit? I read quite a few posts that its almost mandatory to get the steel ones after the Wide Maxx because they will inevitably break. Thanks
50 or 60 wt oil will make a big difference. Your rear preload is also too much. I’d try 50% on the rear, and set the fronts to level it mostly, which will be minimal preload, and there will be slight sag in the rear. You’re pushing it to its absolute limits for your terrain, almost as if you wanted to be disappointed but I know that can’t be true 😃 These wise arms should be original equipment!
I love the wide kit on my Maxx. I think it handles much better. But in the end it’s a monster truck. You can’t compare it to a lot of other RCs. And I think it flips just as easy as it did before the wide kit.
You increased your spring tension in the rear. That alone will cause less spring dampening upon turning and soaking up body roll. The front and rear spring rates and shock oil's need to be fine tuned and it will definitely handle much better.
JPM788212 It’s a monster truck! What are you trying to do? Make it a Formula One car? It is all operator!. Period. operating these vehicles is what shows true talent in your driving ability
@@DanHovarter Hardly a monster truck to be honest. Maybe a truggy at best. Emaxx and Tmaxx were actual monster trucks. Spring tension has a lot to do with how easily it rolls over or slides. Hey. Great video! If you put the rear shocks on with the new springs and the front shocks on with the old rear springs you will get the full experience
The SMC 7200 lipos made for the X-Maxx are the BOMB for this truck. Fit great. I place a thin piece of flooring foam under battery to make up the 1/8" space. I get over 30 minute run times. I use Traxxas Link App to alarm me when Lipo stays at 14.9 volts (storage voltage) then shut down and swap lipo out.
@@gonzodetroitify I just know that the SMC 7200's that say "fit in the X-Maxx" will fit the 4s Maxx perfectly. I run my regular 4s racing batts in the ol X-Maxx
Having to buy a kit for a new rc just to not rollover as much sounds crazy, traxxas should stop production of this vehicle and just get it right for what they charge for them!good luck
Front sits a little too high, try to lower it. Overmore you should try lower numbers of the shockoil if you want more grab. I think that would help... maxx is a little beast :)
Have you ever thought about trying the Arrma Kraton? The lower CG makes it way more stable that the Maxx and the 4S version is significantly less expensive (6S is roughly the same cost as the Maxx).
See how many views you get when you make a fix it or upgrade video! People love seeing your reviews, but they really love leaning how to fix or upgrade something.
Great video, I think this truck isn't worth the buy though. The kit you installed should be how it comes from the factory and I think the fact that it has plastic axles really just shows that Traxxas purposely makes weak points to make more money. It's also too expensive, with that $550 I'd much rather go buy a Kraton. How would you say your experience has been so far?
My only gripe is Traxxas should’ve did a little more research on this truck before they released it. For that money I would expect it to not have any problems that much especially flipping over constantly. And capitalizing on a part that should’ve been on the truck from the beginning. Come on TRAXXAS 😡
If you run the truck in rocky terrain the wide stance is a downside, because you’re more likely to hit rocks with the a arms. I agree it should be like $475 or for the &530 it should at least come with the lights
@@smperkins410 yeah i been contemplating the past few months whether to buy a Maxx..just makes me angry you gotta buy a wide kit and whatever just to make it where it should have been out of the factory. I am new to RC and called Traxxas support to ask some questions and they tell you that you have to use Traxxas batteries or will void the warranty. Maybe i don't wanna spend over $100 on batteries. I do like the fact it has lights and the self-righting and the clipless body...but i think its just overpriced. The Arrma Granite is more in my price range and you don't have to buy all this extra shit at the start just to get it halfway right. So thats what i been struggling with back and forth..The Granite vs. the Maxx and whats the better one for a first time RC buy.
So it sounds like Traxxas jumped the gun if they already offer an extension kit. That’s too bad as that’s not a cheap vehicle, I wouldn’t be happy. But even the big dogs make those mistakes, the C6 Corvette had a huge update 6 months after their release. Still disappointing. My rule of thumb is don’t buy a new anything till it’s been out on the market. The Maxx looks cool tho.
great video as always, btw you shouldn't use hex bits with round tip when it's not needed, they strip screws way easier than normal ones, only use them when you can't really get to the screw perfectly straight
@Brian Allan i was hangry when i wrote this but it is true like for instance i got the traxxas bandit and till i almost bought all the upgrades then the store guys like ya....the stampede rustler and bandit are all the same for 2wd except for on the bandit the front and rear wheels use tint 4mm bearings and the others all use the huge 11mm bearings for durability so there is some smoke and mirrors to look out for otherwise known as deception.

I use Traxxas Link App to alarm me when Lipo stays at 14.9 volts (storage voltage) then shut down and swap lipo out.
@@NitroStarGT awesome, so will that mean most or all x maxx lipos will fit or at least this u have 😎🍻
@@gonzodetroitify I just know that the SMC 7200's that say "fit in the X-Maxx" will fit the 4s Maxx perfectly.
I have to wonder why it doesn’t just come from the factory wide Maxx
If you run in rocky terrain it is actually a downside. More area to hit the arms instead of the tires
When that screw fell
Waiting for a new video from you sir
I thinks it’s just because you didn’t change your shock oil seen 4 vids today they all changed their shock oil and it worked perfectly
Have you ever thought about trying the Arrma Kraton? The lower CG makes it way more stable that the Maxx and the 4S version is significantly less expensive (6S is roughly the same cost as the Maxx).
I'm not a fan of Arrma. I don't like the metal chassis. I might get one one day
@@outsourcedrc 4s chassis are plastic, and I think there are pros and cons to both. Maintenance on the 6s models is dead easy, which is a plus for me
See how many views you get when you make a fix it or upgrade video! People love seeing your reviews, but they really love leaning how to fix or upgrade something.
I know, but it takes forever for me to film and edit repairs and such. It turns a 15 minute task into an 8 hour job.
Make sure you tell your viewers they need the driveshafts
I dont think the drive shafts were out when I got the Kit.
Traxxas sure knows how to bleed money out if people. This kit should have already been on the truck and not a so called upgrade.
For the price of this with the wide kit you can buy e revo 😂😂😂
True, but I think the MAXX looks much cooler than the E Revo.
The E revo is such a better and faster truck. The maxx is way overpriced
@@mojaverc1585 it's not really faster, it just has moar powar
Lawrence Timme yeah thats what I meant. Thanks for correcting
Lawrence Timme more
Great video, I think this truck isn't worth the buy though. The kit you installed should be how it comes from the factory and I think the fact that it has plastic axles really just shows that Traxxas purposely makes weak points to make more money. It's also too expensive, with that $550 I'd much rather go buy a Kraton. How would you say your experience has been so far?
I love this thing. Its pretty much the only RC I've driven since I bought it.
After driving the Maxx with the Wide kit, I kinda liked it narrow.
8:02 look at the bottom left
Did he fined it 🤣
I thought this had a self righting
feature
it does it works great
Why didnt u use it then ? Lol
@@JerseyStyle7 I try not to. It tends to be hard on the drive train.
Outsourced RC good point
Only reason I asked is because I just ordered the same truck I was wondering lol
Maxx Wide kit is for those who should of bought an E-Revo in the first place.
Ha. Probably.
E-revo 3.0 :P
lol almost.
Should be called roll maxx lol 😂 time for a new brand!
Dai Goldsack lol 😂 this is hands down the toughest vehicle made. You need to learn how to drive
So Far I like the Maxx better with out the Wide Maxx kit.
great video as always, btw you shouldn't use hex bits with round tip when it's not needed, they strip screws way easier than normal ones, only use them when you can't really get to the screw perfectly straight
Hey! Wouldn't it be great if Traxxis was just built right the first time😄🏁 rip
Except traxxas doesn’t sell shock oil! Even though there is a part# for it!
Do you use Ford oil in a Ford? Wake up...
You may have seen your future on the drive shaft coming off. Lol
