  • How do you prepare students for an uncertain future? University of New Hampshire
President Jim Dean makes a compelling case that integrating the humanities with
STEM, business, and health care is what will equip graduates with the complex,
creative problem solving needed in the 21st century. James “Jim” Dean is president of the University of New Hampshire and interim chancellor of the University System of New Hampshire. He previously served as provost of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and dean of the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. Jim and his wife Jan have two wonderful daughters and four spectacular grandchildren. He is an amateur clarinet player, an avid reader, a Francophile, a lifelong soccer and basketball fan, and a supporter of all UNH sports teams. He believes passionately in the value of higher education for individuals and for society. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

"Why then do we give our sons a liberal education? Not because it can make them morally good but because it prepares the mind for the acquisition of moral values." - Seneca.
