Another fun thing. In One, we learn , and later, in BBS have confirmed, that Riku flat lied to Kairi about her giving him the idea to leave the Island. And Sora catches it. The real reason he wants to leave is because of the Strength he believes Young Xehanort had. The Strength that would allow him to Protect Sora. It is always about Sora. He wanted to create a World with Him, Sora, and Freedom in it. interesting.
It's funny, back just before KH2 came out, I didn't even consider shipping Riku and Sora. Then I went to an anime convention where I met two flawless Riku and Sora cosplayers who would occasionally do romantic poses for photos. When I finally got to play KH2, it became so obvious that there were strong feelings between the two. From that point on, I've been shipping them. KH3D was just icing on the already fruity gay rainbow cake I was eating. And that scene in the Keyblade Graveyard? An act of pure True Love. No one can convince me otherwise. Thanks for putting this video together. I've seen others out there that go into deep detail, but this one was just the right length if I want to share this theory with others. ❤
This was a great video, It's always nice to see the discussion of Soriku when it comes to RUclips with People bringing up the Things that happened during the Games. Riku's character is an exception and the amount of stuff in it really makes his sbeautifulitful. He was someone who Saw His Best Friend as something more but he didn't know how to handle complex feelings and was afraid of being abandoned when he thought it was true. Darkness took over him, but after realizing he was hurting his most Precious Person he tried to fix things and was so guilty that he would disappear forever and the last thing he would do is make sure the person He loves is happy. When it turns out He was completely wrong he goes through a journey alongside that person and redeems himself and with the lesson he learned. He uses it to protect that Person which is Sora. A few details add on to some of the things that were brought up. In the Original 358/2 Days on the DS, there was a cutscene at the end of Beast Castle where The Beast Let Go of the Rose something that could cure his beast form and picked Belle over it. Roxas noticed this and questioned if this was True Love he was seeing. Someone willing to do an act for the person they love. Later Axel brought up the Topic of Love which reinforces that. In the Riku fight when Hus's wrist gets Injured. Without hesitating he gives in to the power of darkness and permanently changes him to Ansem SoD form all so Sora could regain his Memories. Thank you for sharing!! I love getting to hear about details I missed in this video, there's just so much to talk about when it comes to Riku's love for Sora!
This is a pretty good video! A few points though: Sora didn’t “choose” anyone at the end of kh3, he saved a friend. He saved Kairi exactly as he would have saved Riku if Riku had been in her place. There’s a lot to say about how ReMind is about Sora repairing his degraded connection to Kairi the way he did with Pooh but I won’t get into that now. Also, Riku didn’t tell Kairi she wasn’t strong enough, yes he was uncertain but remember: he had to use the power of waking to go to Quadratum, which Kairi literally doesn’t have yet. Also in the jp version earlier when she is talking to Xehanort instead of just blaming him she says “because I wasn’t strong enough, Sora disappeared”. So it was something she already believed. Now obviously if Nomura had wanted her to go to Quadratum she would be going there regardless, but in universe it’s the case that she doesn’t possess the power to go there yet. And the reason Fairy Godmother shows up to tell him that his dreams will lead him to Sora and sends him on his way is because Riku is playing the role of Cinderella here. They even reference the theme song “A Dream is a Wish your Heart Makes ( If you keep on believing, the Dream that you wish will come true)” with Riku’s kingstagram post when you load up episode Riku where Fairy Godmother shows up: “His heart and his mind are made up. I believe in Sora. #Wish These are very intentional choices. And if Riku is Cinderella then there’s a very good chance his dreams are about to come true.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! You do make some good points, and as for Riku not going with Kairi I definitely could've worded that better. The main takeaway I had from that scene was that Riku was too impatient to wait for Kairi to be able to go with him, but I suppose I made him come off crueler to her with my framing of it. And like you said if Nomura wanted her to go she would be going, that explanation was also in part me trying to find an in universe explanation for that real life decision lol
Great video! Another thing I've noticed that hints at Sora and Riku's connection is the keychains on each of their separate parts of the gayblade. While its combined it has the paopu which is riddled with symbolize in and of itself, the separate parts have a bat wing keychain for Riku's half and an angel wing keychain for Sora's. Riku obviously has been shown with this bat wing multiple times throughout the series in official arts and with Soul Eater and Way to the Dawn, and Sora has been represented with light and angel wings, like with his limit attack with Kairi in Re:Mind. The interesting part though... is that the bat wing and the angel wing are the two symbols on the Book of Prophecies. I've seen people theorize before that the gayblade is the true X-blade that connects to Kingdom Hearts, but this has been driving me crazy until we get more information. I'm hoping they expand on it more in KH4 because theres no way the Master of Masters ISN'T interested in Riku and Sora, especially with how they represent two halves of a whole of Kingdom Hearts itself, and we still don't know what the gayblade IS or even its real name. I'm almost certain it will show up in KH4 but... we won't know until its out. u_u
Oh my god I never noticed that about the keychain, that's so great! Thank you for pointing that out to me!! And thank you for watching and commenting, I'm excited to see what more we get about Sora and Riku in KH4 :3

Theory. I'd like to share my perspective on what Destiny Islands is. Destiny Islands is akin to a book, to be precise, a fairytale inscribed in the Master of Masters' magical Book of Prophecies. In the Re:coded movie, there's a particular scene where Maleficent converses with Pete. During this exchange, Maleficent compares the Book of Prophecies to Jiminy's Journal from KH1 (the one that becomes blank in this game). Re:coded unfolds within a digital rendition of that journal. The storyline reenacts the events of KH1, with a twist: the downfall of Destiny Island isn't caused by Data Riku but by the Bugs of Darkness spawned from Sora's Heartless. Moreover, the Journal morphs into Data Riku. In this world, the adventure of Data Sora takes place within Riku. Maleficent mentions that the "datascape of the Journal" reminded her of the Book of Prophecies. According to legend, the Book not only transcribes the future but also, and most importantly, can conjure worlds filled with beings and powers that have yet to exist. I believe the Master of Masters created Destiny Islands, as well as Sora and Riku. From a meta perspective, the Master, representing Nomura, crafted the first Kingdom Hearts game and retroactively introduced a character who is the catalyst for the original game and subsequent titles. How did The Masters accomplish this? The Master utilized the Eye of Divine Providence to observe future Disney World fairy tales, then a fiction (Final Fantasy 13 versus World), and the World of the Astral Plane (real Earth in the plane of Memory and Imagination). Employing the tropes and writing ideas he had studied, he crafted Destiny Islands. So, What is Destiny Islands? It is a Disney Fairytale Final Fantasy True Love Romance Gay Romance book for modern sensibility. An Experiment to create True Love powerful enough to Love the Darkness into submission. A Kind the Master can believe in.
in the direct Japanese to English translation, in Chain of Memories, Her is never used to describe the person. It is "that person" or "your precious person". Further, After Sora gets the Meteor promise, he starts calling Namine and this person, aitsu, which is a gender neutral but male leaning pronoun that it would be rude to call a girl. He also calls Riku Replica that. And that is why when Selphie says, " He's thinking about "Her"" it is actually "He's thinking about "that guy" /Aitsu". And Sora goes "Umm... I guess", because he is thinking of Riku who is imprinted on Namine. So, Sora is trying to figure out if he is looking for Riku or Namine. After all, when Sora came to the Castle, he was looking for Riku, and that is what Namine used to draw Sora there. She "called out to his Heart" and suddenly, Sora just knows Riku is in the Castle. Also, the place where Namine is standing, and Kairi appears when the Star reverts back to Oathkeeper is the same place Riku was standing before the Real Destiny Island fell to Darkness before Ansem, Seeker of Darkness sent him away. See Recoded. Also, Riku's Light gives Sora the Kingdom Key on that same night, the Sword to protect him. His Crown, so to speak. The insinuation during that scene is Riku wanted to take Sora through his Darkness and they both would have ended up where Sora and Namine are in the illusion of Destiny Islands in Chain of Memories, but on the Real Destroyed Islands. And Sora clasps Namine's hand like Riku wanted Sora to do in KH1. And all the things Sora says to Namine mirror Sora reuniting with Riku/"Ansem " in KH2 in both the games and the novels. And Namine herself explains she cannot create new Memories, just rearrange existing true ones. So, how do Riku Replica and Sora have the Memory of the Meteor promise? If the promise was between Sora and Kairi, how does Riku Replica have it? Further, that promise takes place before KH1 when Kairi gave Sora OathKeeper, and it is implied that Kairi was the meteor, and wasn't on the island yet. So, what... is happening?
Melody of Memories. Riku is the parallel to Cinderella. The Fairy Godmother, Fairy of Dreams (Strong Beliefs that lead to True Love) comes to Riku and tells him, His Dreams ( as a Dream Eater. Sora's Dream Man) are "Key" to finding Sora. Literally Cinderella dreaming of the Ball and her Prince. Kairi cannot go because it is important that Riku is Cinderella and Yozora in parallel. (Yozora looking for Nameless Star "Sora")

So, when Sora sleeps, Riku becomes "dream eater esque". Almost like they are the Child of Destiny, Two become One. " And they were joined in Holy Matrimony, and became as One Flesh" "Dearly Beloved"
I've got this headcanon that Kairi secretly ships Sora and Riku, which is why she doesn't make the effort to keep him company more often. Like the sea at the world's dawn, she's trying to make way for land (Riku) to rise from the depths below until it reaches the sky (Sora) and completes it. Honestly, it's kinda cute how Riku and Kairi do all this effort to push each other onto Sora. It's the reverse of the love triangle trope, and I'm here for it.
I see Sora and Riku's relationship is kinda like Christine/Doctor Strange, or early Tony Stark/early Pepper. Yes, the feelings are there, but they're not quite ready for a relationship yet. I feel like they still compete too much for who holds the knife, similar to what Christine told Strange. Sora needs first to release his ugly side. Oh ! And as a bonus, see how characters react to not having Sora as their pillar. I just don't want another Strange/Judai scenario, in which they emotionally suffer because of the world around them.
I wouldn't mind if they turned it into a poligamy between Sora, Riku and Kairi. It actually seems it would fit the story quite well. Guess fanfics have finally gotten to me and rotted my brain.
Oh I absolutely think that would work for these three! This was honestly just looking at one specific part of that trio, but there's a lotta love between the 3 of them to be sure, polyamory would fit them imo
