Listening to the first 20 minutes or so, I wonder if it would be worth doing a dedicated episode towards tilt. As someone who struggles with it occasionally ( though not nearly as much compared to when I was younger) it is an interesting topic
I hidetsugu two times in two different best of three matches. From the sideboard, not main deck. They were grindier games, and I just wanted to try and challenge myself for fun. Haha. Love the show, as always!
Paul's Open story reminds of the Simpsons episode where Bart becomes the bartender for Fat Tony and the Springfield mobsters. He wakes up yelling GOOD MORNIN' WORLD! because he's pumped for the field trip to the chocolate factory. Then about 10 awful things happen and he misses the field trip entirely.
We've done a deep fried turkey for the past 3 years. We'll never go back to oven roasted. You just need to make sure the turkey is fully thawed and that the skin is dry before you put it into the pot
Turkey is a build around. I’ve smoked my turkey the last two years and it’s turned out great, plus it makes good leftovers, but it’s not easy to just pop it in the oven and roast. You really need to draft around the turkey to find success but when you do it really pops off. Deep frying your turkey is also a good move but my house doesn’t have a good place for it, you can talk to your fire department if you want to get a safe set up but they will hate you lol.
Genesis wave worked for me in a Green Black deck splashing 2 tatyova. When the lands you get off it cycle its pretty good. I also had a decent amount of good 4 drops so Wave for 7 mana was basically win the game.
I'm not Korean but my favorite Thanksgiving turkey ever was one that had been dry brined in gochugaru and had a finishing glaze based on black sesame oil.
I've been genesis waved two or three times. First time my opponent was going to win anyway, other times opponent cast for x=5 and hit two or three lands and some 3 drops
1:26:56 regarding Aetherize - i disagree with the comments about your opponent only attacking all if you have bad creatures. The U/W flying deck will often attack all when you have ground creatures or mostly ground creatures. White also has a load of +1/+1 counters - Aetherize hoses all of these and can reset a board that was running away with the game. I’ve found it to be really good in slower, controlling decks.
Props to Paul, really appreciate this story. I've had good success in Opens, cached $2K twice this year. But have also experienced the 10 runs -> fail to qualify misery. Crokeyz also went 0 for 16 on this one. Great content though. I have not been fond of this sealed format. Went 1 for 10 in the direct events (including losing to Eken as a final boss). No doubt was tilted and playing badly at the end. Anyways good to hear this happens to the best as well.
imo Luis is making an oversight in his turkey evaluation: he is 100% right that if it was better, we would eat it more often. But thanksgiving turkey doesn't exist in a vacuum, it's served with loads of sides to an extent that no other meat is throughout the year. Beef or ham may be better as a main course, but they are extremely rich. Thanksgiving is an opportunity for your sides to shine, and be equals with the meats.
I lost tothat 2/3 menace elf the one time i saw it bcause i did miss multiple turns to hit land 3 on the draw. When i finally stabilized and and got rid of it they top decked the 4 mana elf lord and killed me :P At least someone got to do the elf thing i guess and all it took was multiple land drops :D
I have waved and been waved. Didn't go well for both of us lol. I have won because of herald in my first draft of the set, and banishing lighted a herald without getting disenchated haha.
Paul's story is a good reminder that even the best players in the game still have unfortunate runs. It's a good perspective to keep in mind if you're having an off night.
It kind of clicked for me when watching this. Green's issue is it's relying on their creatures being good and they just aren't in this format. They really struggle with quality creatures that just get outpaced by the other colors. Edit: LSV literally mentioned this a few minutes after I wrote this comment
I do look forward to turkey leftovers after Thanksgiving. I agree that hurdles to cooking is a bigger factor than folks are giving credit for. Turkeys are large (needing a large pan), don't come precut (need oven, not stove or grill), and take a long time to cook.
Hitasugus is awsome its like 2 lava axes for less mana then 1. I've t4 killed with it. And killed with it multiple times. Fanatical firebrand into 2 Fanatical fire brand bolt wave or double kick shock into t4 dome and from 10 to grave. I gone for it in mono red and rakdos and its been awsome it makes the burn plan almost 2 easy.
Sire of Seven Deaths is not nearly as scary as it looks when playing green. Because you have a large, stalling board, with lots of well sized creatures, you are able to block sire with 5-6 creatures and force them to trade their sire for 2-3 of your creatures. Sure that is positive trade for them, but they did not win the game, nor did u scoop, and they lost their sire for your couple of mid green creatures. Furthermore, blocking sire with treetop snarespinner and a 7/7 and other well sized creatures puts opponent in a quite a spot. Everytime they played Sire, i groaned and moaned and thought they would probably win. I won 3/4 of those games. One time they even used flighting fleet on Sire to trade for 2 of my creatures and have Sire live. I was still able to multiblock Sire following turn as an 8/8 and trade. I won that game.
You’re basically just saying a single creature doesn’t win when you’re way behind on board. But sire takes you from way behind to even or ahead in most board states. Because if they had a somewhat comparable board they could’ve turned those sire trades into grinding you down.
Your arguments about turkey were all terrible. It doesn't get eaten on Sundays. How much does a 15 pound turkey cost? How often to you roast a full chicken? Turkey's mad underrated there just a bigger version of chickens but for some reason no one eats it. Why don't we make fried turkey like we make friend chicken? Its blasphemy. We also just don't do a good enough job raising turkeys so the quality of a lot of the turkey in America isn't as good as it should be. There is so much untapped potential. turkey meat=best meat
I actually saw someone in our local paper draft, pack 1 pick 1 Progenitus, and picked all the duals and so forth and actually cast it multiple games and was pretty successful, I think he went 2 and 1. I also had a bad beat on the Angel, used an arbiter of woe and got them to -1, and drew an eaten alive, but the autotapper left a blue open instead of a black. They then top decked swiftfoot boots, before I could untap with black mana.
1:19:21 Lathril isn't a new design, it's from a commander precon. While I agree it's pretty bad in this limited format, it's actually super good in standard, where it'll be for a long time. I've been jamming BG elves in standard and been having a blast and Lathril is one of the headliners in the deck. I oftentimes feel like you guys only look at cards through the lens of limited and wonder why cards are in sets the way they are without taking into account other formats.
I always love to watch Marshall, Luis, and Paul discussing limited together
I'm so sorry you had a rough time, Paul. We, the audience, love you win or lose. :D Thanks for being here for us on LR.
Marshall's "yea you know it's interesting" when talking about the turkey had me in tears
Paul’s “it’s playable” got me. Love these dudes
Never seen LSV smile as big clowning Cheon a bit. Paul win or lose we love watching you game. Keep grinding dawg
Can we please get a buddy cop movie with Paul and LSV
Start the go fund me!
Limited Forces - License to Draw. Coming this fall!
Listening to the first 20 minutes or so, I wonder if it would be worth doing a dedicated episode towards tilt. As someone who struggles with it occasionally ( though not nearly as much compared to when I was younger) it is an interesting topic
LSV looked great for his first podcast!
Man what a throwback to the good ole CFB days
Paul's Arena Open story could be a Black Mirror episode!
For real. I feel like normally he could draft a turkey dinner and go 7 - 0
“You don’t just roast a turkey on a random Sunday”.
Laughs in Texas BBQ
It’s all in how you cook the Turkey. Spatchcocked and dry brined is the way to go.
Sure. Those are words.
Sous vide for me. Perfectly cooked.
I hidetsugu two times in two different best of three matches. From the sideboard, not main deck. They were grindier games, and I just wanted to try and challenge myself for fun. Haha.

Came here for the expected burn, was not disappointed.

The very first thing that happened to me at my first Foundations prerelease was my opponent revealing a Leyline Axe from their opening hand.
Genesis wave worked for me in a Green Black deck splashing 2 tatyova. When the lands you get off it cycle its pretty good. I also had a decent amount of good 4 drops so Wave for 7 mana was basically win the game.
talked to Luis on X over the weekend and he was just clowning all over Paul it was great. RIP Pauls Arena Open run though
Is anyone else NOT liking foundations? Surprised all the guys are enjoying it
Wow! Brutal burn in the first couple of minutes. 😂
I'm not Korean but my favorite Thanksgiving turkey ever was one that had been dry brined in gochugaru and had a finishing glaze based on black sesame oil.
Someone really needs to tell Marshall that there's a foil in every pack and he shouldn't overlook the foil.
Thanksgiving Turkey is a C. Left over turkey Sandwiches are an A +.
I've been genesis waved two or three times. First time my opponent was going to win anyway, other times opponent cast for x=5 and hit two or three lands and some 3 drops
It does make me feel a little better that Paul suffered with me with this sealed format
I had a deck with two Leyline Axes and 12 two drops. Twas a good time😂
Amazing title
I feel the same way Paul does. Sealed is not great but the drafts for this set have been fun.

Lathril is a top 5 commander on EDHREC, it is much easier to build around in constructed formats and/or have 3 different possible opponents to attack.
I want Paul to know I tried my best to help him by missing my colors on both mulls. I guess his other opps weren't so giving!
Props to Paul, really appreciate this story. I've had good success in Opens, cached $2K twice this year. But have also experienced the 10 runs -> fail to qualify misery.

Paul youre not a looser! Youre the best! Funny story tho!
This is an all US West Coast (and mountain) panel, right?
Seattle, Las Vegas, Denver

We do cook turkeys. Sous Vide is the way to go.

I played progenitus Loot :)

Turkey is way better than chicken, the problem is it's much harder to cook. Smoked turkey is my jam and I definitely make them on random Sundays.

SIXTEEN??????
I have had a lot of Murphy's law Mana issues in the last couple weeks. The pain is shared.
Hello
Hi there, hello!
Fam I get tilted after like 2 games 😂😂😂
Hitasugus is awsome its like 2 lava axes for less mana then 1. I've t4 killed with it. And killed with it multiple times. Fanatical firebrand into 2 Fanatical fire brand bolt wave or double kick shock into t4 dome and from 10 to grave. I gone for it in mono red and rakdos and its been awsome it makes the burn plan almost 2 easy.
Ive had one game where my opponent played herald of the dawn and swiftfoot boots i wanted to uninstall
Yall hating on green cuz they remove your guy. Just have more bigger guys after that. gg
Sire of Seven Deaths is not nearly as scary as it looks when playing green. Because if they had a somewhat comparable board they could’ve turned those sire trades into grinding you down.
One solution, switch arena opens from one sealed to two 4 round drafts on day 1.
Nobody's talking about WG being one of the top archetypes among top players?

@@cheapo75 It was surprising to all of us, of course their advice is generally much better to follow. I don't think Progenitus is a good pick.
Why do so many MTG content creators mispronounce “mischievous?” They keep adding an “i” like miss - chee - vee - us
I don't think MTG has much to do with it. That's just many people in general.
@ sure, I’ve just noticed it a lot with MTG creators recently because it’s part of a card name in FDN.
Honestly sealed is a joke of a format and it’s so annoying that all the limited events have sealed
