He learned to play sax alongside his son. They even took their saxophone grade exams together. Imagine being the examiner and David Gilmore walks in; wonder what grade he got?
Wasn't Rick bullied by Waters in the 80's or even late 70's or so and called useless for the band or something? I know that's very far from true and bothers me if it is.. Gilmour played all my favorite Floyd bass lines anyway, so what the hell..
Around the late 70s and early 80s Roger pretty much bullied everybody who didn't do as he said. Honestly? Wall-era Roger deeply unsettles me, he seemed to be on the border of a mental breakdown or something.
I went to these three gigs, the last night they had to take down and rebuild the whole stage show as there was an awards ceremony booked for the hall that afternoon, I remember being held in an area outside the main hall and hearing the halls organ being played, apparently by Rick Wright, it was special to see Nick Mason join them for the encore on the last night at the RAH.

What's crazy to me is the music today is just now catching up to what Pink Floyd done years ago. And what Mr. Gilmore is doing now wont be caught up with for another ten to twenty years from now.... I find it harder to listen to any new music after hearing Gilmore / Pink Floyd music. There are very few bands now that can come close so until then long live Sir David Gilmore and the knights of Pink Floyd.

Gilmore is great because like his friend said, he fits what he does into the band dynamic. He knows his space in the music. That's making music IMHO.
