In Hawaii I had a Hobie tandem and I made a motor mount similar to this. I used it on west side of Waimea Kauai. With peddles or motor , the trolling battery would keep me to sea for at least 4 hours.
😊I put a 1X4 inch board just behind the seat then added other board for attachment then attached to kayak hull.the battery was up front.once while fishing I wasn’t paying attention, got swallowed by wave. Lost my motor, battery and 4 fishing poles.that was 30+ years ago.
Really loved the videos. Just purchased used 128 T in great condition. Will use the same setup thanks to you. Do you think Minn Kota 30lbs will be good? I will use in the bays, sometimes get chubby. Thanks
Thx for the video. Was thinking about this exact concept. A few questions / comments: 1. Do you notice the kayak leaning to the right due to the weight of the motor? Have you considered adding weight on the left side (or maybe eventhe battery itself) to balance it out? 2. Is there a reason to have the cross bar so high? Was thinking about having the crossbar / 2x4 resting on the top of the kayak, and maybe tie it down for added security even in case of a flip. 3. Have you flipped the kayak with this motor on? Everything stayed put? 4. Are you concerned the plug in the cross fitting might crack if the boltb is tightened tightened too much? Seems a bit of a weak spot... Overall very nice build. Thanks a bunch.
Hi friend Thanks for the comments. So I put the batter in the back on the opposite side of the motor and it even the weight out perfect. I made the cross bar at a level I thought would be comfortable for my hand to control. You can go any height you like with same performance. Noooo I do not want to flip, that would wreck my trolling motor and battery And it is very strong and sterdy does. It feel like it would crack at all.
Awesome video. Like how you showed each piece of hardware and took the time while getting straight to the point of this video.. where did you put the battery and what type of battery did you use? Do you have a video of the yak on the water?
I have a sun dolphin journey 10 and it appears to have the same for holders as the one in the video. I've purchased a length of 1 1/4 pod just to see how it will work, and I can't get it down in there - too big. when I unscrew those screws will it fit? If I cut the slit up the length will that make it fit? Any help greatly appreciate. Great video!
Good tutorial video! One thing though: because you have mounted the motor on the 2x4 in the angled position it is in, the trolling motor is now sitting in an angled position in the water. You could correct this by using spacers between the bolt head and the 2x4.
@@sunamii1080i I'm getting ready to do your method in a couple days. Looks great except for instead of using spacers to level the 2x4 it looks like you can just tilt the 4 way a little bit before you glue.
How’s it drive? I rigged my motor in a similar position but had problems with the boat just going in circles, I’m guessing because the motor is so close to the center. Any issues?
Hello! I ask you if placing the engine on the side of the kayak goes sideways or goes straight. You think that for trolling it is very little a 20Lbs. It is a small and light one. Thank you!

Your design is cool. My kayak tackle hole is 7.5" deep x 1-1/2". I brought pvc same size, wrong. I went to PVC mark 1", found out that's inside diameter, the O.D is a around 1-3/4". I saw your pvc 1-1/4" and it fit nicely with a slit. Can you tell me the hole size of your tackle holder? I'm more than $50 and still can't make it to work. The two 7.5" long stainless steel bolts + washer + log nut are over $30 alone. Love some help. Thanks.
Or do the same size as me. From what I found most kayak have the same size pole holder diameter. Also u have to lose the screws that hold the rod holders to the kayaks and let it turn to the shape of your trolling motor mount. Then Press all the way down drill new holes and add screws. Always add silicon.
AZ Legend Adv, I did one slit, made it larger, as it grow larger, there's a point where it won't be squeeze shut close. I counter slit on the opposite side, then made it larger and will go in only up to half the entire length of the slit to the point the stability is compromised, wobbly. The length of the hole is 7.5" to make it go all the way is to increase slit to 15" and it become too high and ugly. It could have been a nice design if it works. Thank you so much.
AZ Legend Adv: You're correct, pole holder are much standard in hole size but I don't know what going on. The alignment is taken cared off. I also start looking for electrical pvc tube hoping the thickness might be thinner. It is harder to find the size. Thank you much.
So I want to purchase a BOTE inflatable dock and create an attachment similar to yours to get a trolling motor on the back of it. They sell fishing rod paddleboard attachments online that just have a tight suction that surface clamps down. I could put the PVC pipes in that only problem is that idk where to mount it?! Maybe the middle of the board but it’s 10X10 inflatable dock so idk how that would work exactly. I just really want to get a motor on this board and I know there has to be a way! Any thoughts or ideas are most welcome !!!
In your case I would get the power drill with the trolling motor end! Suction cups probably will not hold it. It does have weight and torque! Or they sell small battery powers motors.
State of delivery is great. I put the battery on one side and the trolling motor on the other and it evens out very well. Now there is a lot of torque when the trolling motor takes off. So that is the only thing you have to get used to so you don't flip. But it's no big deal. Thanks for the comment

Mine drives really good! Mine sits a bit more behind than the center.
A lot easier just to bolt a plastic milk crate on end, and use it as a transom, mine tips over if weight of motor is on the side.
I’ve read many comments saying you want the trolling motor at least 12” in the water. This looks like it barely goes down past the hull of the kayak?
When I drop my Trolling Motor all the way down it goes right below my kayak no problem.

Any idea to lengthen the control arm so that one doesn't end up all twisted to the right controlling the motor ?
They sell extension kits or make your own out of pvc pipe and some wire to ann the extension.
why not cjut a couple of t pieces into the cross bar to replace the used rod holders
Can you make a rig for a smaller kijyc that has a flat botom
