Lol my mom is like this, only obviously not to this far extant. She cares more about gay rights then I do lol. She won’t even eat Chick Fil A lol, even though I eat it.
It's not that she's too supportive, it's that she (and everyone else in town) have an image of what a gay man is like and treat John like that, ignoring all evidence to the contrary
Even though it's a tiny bit exaggerated, it's really good and it sounds very accurate to my ears. The state of the apartment, her clothes and hairstyle and the conversations (about marches, extended sick leave and joy-riding) would not be out of place in a lot of Belfast families.
My ABSOLUTE. FAVOURITE. Catherine Tate skit. What of ut??! At the time had me putting on a Belfast accent everywhere - - still do it now 15 or so years later! Works a bloody treat!! 😁👍🏻
@@j.p.6932 That is sad of course, but I hope you found your tribe. We can’t pick our family and sometimes we have to find people to fill our lives with the love and support we as humans need to thrive, and those we can call our true family.
@@mjrussell414 I’ve found friends that i consider family, but like any family, they often let me down. It’s hard to find friends who are there unconditionally and not just up for hanging out.
I really dislike most of the rest of the Catherine Tate show, but fuck me, this is just so brilliant and well observed and nails a particular type and that way of talking very well. Hearing her giving off about people, I don't know if anyone outside Belfast actually gets how true to life that is but take it from me, this woman exists, I know her I've known her all my life. I am genuinely amazed, I can only guess she must have lived in West Belfast at some point in her life or something.
God, it's all so true when it comes to older women in the family who love gays just a little too much for my liking. lol. My reaction to my grandma knowing i had a girlfriend: "Oh that's nice" To knoing I had a boyfriend: "Ohhhh! I'm so proud I'm going to call him once a day for the next two weeks to say how proud I am." xD
Thats class. This is coming from a girl from northern ireland lol colin morgan could pass as a Belfast man even though hes from Armagh. Then theres Catherine Tate. Her accent is unreal. Thumbs up from me!
Yeah, Kevin Trainor was/is hot. Weirdly the guy who played "Patrick" in the bedscene would've been a better replacement... nevertheless, Colin Morgan was great.
I love this! It's so hilarious how they create a reverse of homophobia that still isn't entirely great. Everyone accepts John, but then they expect him to match certain characteristics. Nice to see he did get a hottie in the end, though.
This is not that far fetched. We had our house redecorated, in which the decor was specified by a consultant from the decorating store. In the end my wife had a slight nagging doubt it wasnt quite right. We asked the gay guy down the road to have a look. He immediately recommended a change to the entrance color and curtain color in the living area. It fixed the issue and the whole place is really tied together. Should have just gone to him in the first place.
Lol, being from Northern Ireland, the gay bit isn't even all that funny... it's the odd tid-bits that remind you of the way people behave here. "He's a hard man, but he's a principled man..." lmao, typical Belfast attitudes... that's why I love this... :P

Did you hear about our John? He's played by a different actor now.

Colin Morgan

The way she slides into the doorway at 4:25 and says "Weeeell!" always cracks me up.
Me too! It's like she hovers in lol
The great comedy of these sketches aside, she's brilliant as an angry Ulster mum. The Christmas scene is pretty hysterical/
Right? Where she's talking about walking down the end of the street? Brilliant. I also love her "What of it?"s gets me every time.
"It's a penis - but you can eat it!" hahahahaha!!!
Love this sketch, Catherine tate is masterful at accents 👌 Northern Irish is by far one of the most difficult to emulate
Have you ever actually spoke to anyone with, or even heard a NI accent? Hers is woeful.
@James Devlin yes. Every day. I never said it was authentic. I said it was hard to emulate, obviously my statement is true if you think it's woeful.
It's a triumph how we all keep coming back to these characters after so long, just shows how great they are. The actors and characters!!

Literally when I came out, this was the response. Definitely lucky in this respect!
"Get yourself a rent boy on me."
