Indians don’t like to hear criticism . Garceti is right. He gives a American perspective that is based on American history , American contribution to techno inventions, American War contributions in defending democracy, American techonligal prowess , American Liberty,

indians don't like to hear criticism from WESTERNERS/hypocrites.
other than that we are some of the most self-critical people on the planet when there's no colonial marauder lecturing us on morality.

I appreciate Eric Garcetti's candor about the nexus between the US and Pakistan in 1971 where the Islamic Nation perpetuated Genocide on Bengalis in then East Pakistan.

Here’s is hoping, India doesn’t listen to this people and blindly copy the US system. No country has been able to advance by blindly copying. South Korea, Japan, China, Singapore, Malaysia etc all have created their own type of capitalism. All this focus of venture capital and equity market and excessive financialization was not the route any of the successful Asian tigers chose.

    Few observations:
    1. The real young India with birth rate of about 3.0 is in Bihar, Bengal, UP where the skill level is quite low.
    2. We have talk in USA and EU that the west should not create another China with India
    3. What Srinivasan says is very important. India needs a single party government to prosper. The 20 years of Khichidi governments is when China went ahead.
    4. India is reluctant to marry because US record for fidelity is very suspect
    5. Lastly meaning to ask, at this point, can India reach per capita income of $25,000. our next target should be $10,000 in as short a time as possible. Then we set our next goal post. I would rather monitor from today, what percentage of population has $10,000 income and see how that percentage increases

on paper at least, GDP of india in 2024 is the same as the GDP of the USA in 1984. IMF and the world bank both agree with the GDP numbers for india provided by the current indian government.
How come the infrastructure of india, women's participation in workforce, manufacturing capabilities of india in 2024 is nowhere near as developed as that of the USA in 1984? So, what should we trust? Our eyes or the numbers the current indian government is providing?

US started developing their infrastructure after the civil war ended ( ~1876). By 1914, they had become the largest Industrial power in the world and by the end of WW1 they had a larger economy , Industrial and scientific base than any other country in the world. They had a continent size country ( 7 times India) to draw resources from and they got both skilled and unskilled manpower from Europe based on their growth requirements. All the factors you mentioned are things that get build out over time and they are cumulative. Taking GDP numbers and comparing infra build out and Industrialization is pure ignorance. There is no co-relation.
Up until 1947 the only infrastructure the British build in India where those that would help in resource extraction or force projection. Thus there were railways, old fashioned single lane highways without dividers, some ports and a lot of military barracks. Up until 1998, the infra build out was mostly patchwork incremental improvisation on what the British left. Modern industrial capability requires multi-lane highways, high speed rail, seaports with large cargo handling capacity, large power generation and distribution grids, Airports for fast connectivity, Urban housing and sanitation infrastructure. It is only in 1998 the Vajpayee Govt started a policy of doing this. Unfortunately the Manmohan Singh govt that followed in 2004 pretty much put a stop to all that though several projects that Vajpayee govt started were completed during his term.. It is only in 2014 the push to build modern infrastructure restarted. So whatever modern infrastructure you are seeing in India is just cumulative of 15 years.
Also during the 2004-2014 period the Congress govt. completely ignored the manufacturing side of the economy and they let China dump goods in the Indian market. This was deliberate as stated by their Chief Econ adviser Raghuram Rajan who still believes that India should not pursue industrialization and should only do Service sector jobs.
You don't have to trust anybody, just remove political blinders and look at facts.
