I never met Andy but I felt the same way when I heard Jerry Garcia passed It was like I lost a good friend. Good to see with time people share more of him with us,he was loved by many as a artist.
9 years today. He passed away in my home town. Hes a big reason i do a lot of what i do. Seeing how his habits tore his life apart and how it effected his family. He is a big reason i changed my life. And here in Grapevine I honor him every year. My love goes out to the Irons family.
I admired Andy and think Lyndie is a true beauty...it sucks so bad in this day and age that you can't be quiet if you don't have something nice to say. I hope Lyndie does a great job with Axel and Andy is now a legend!!!
Andy was incredible surfer from Hawaii well spoken true talent amazing , lots of great surfers from Hawaii but Andy Irons style of surfing was the best to me shocking his gone still can't believe it .
Wow the way Lyndie talks. It was really good to listen to this thanks for sharing. Well it's just good to hear it from her rather than speculations. I guess it's because we are hearing it from someone who loved him. It's like she seems to be saying here; he died from surfing relentlessly; from getting the most out of that few days and putting the most he could into that few days.
The death of Andy Irons is one of the saddest events in modern sports history. In worldly terms what did he not have? The guy was fit, good looking, amazingly talented, his wife was stunningly beautiful, and he had a son on the way. He lived in paradise, had the esteem of his peers and the adoration of surfers everywhere not to mention he spent his life traveling to exotic destinations and making a great living doing it. I don't know the ins and outs but Andy Irons dying in a hotel room in Texas wasn't part of the plan. His passing represents, to me, all that is sad about the human experience. If the speculation of substance abuse is more than speculation it teaches an important lesson. All the gifts in the world do not satisfy the longing of the soul. Character is just as important as ability. Andy had a surplus of ability but were his character flaws the cause of his demise? I pray and hope not. I hope it really was dengue fever. But of course wish it was neither and he was still with us.
Excellent and poignant start, but you stray when you question Andy's character. We are all on a path, and that path is different for each. We all make the best decisions we know how to do. No one is perfect, so the word "flaws" in relation to character implies that somewhere there lies some perfection, which is untrue. Yes, it's tragic for all that this seemingly perfect picture was so abruptly changed, and by decisions he made. It is apparent that you are grasping for a simple fix to the painful situation, so that you can put your mind at rest and sweep it away. But in your disparaging attempt at questioning Andy's character, you display the thinness of your own; judging others. Just feel, no explanation needed. It seems to me that the most potent message we can garner is "take profound care of those around you, and take time to reach out and really inquire as to how they are doing". also, "stay far away from white powders and other addictive drugs", regardless. Anything else is a presumptuous reach for meaning that Andy and his loved ones and family do not deserve.
My friend, I am saying to love people while they are here because you don't know when they will be gone. I speak of profoundly caring in a sense of, well, the feeling everyone had when they heard about Andy. no other meaning implied.
He should have had the perfect life. He depended on the ocean as therapy, but it wasn’t good enough. He needed to know the lord and have faith in God. So sorry for the sad ending of his life. I hope more of the surfing community turns to God. They’re so many sad stories. Sunny Garcia is another sad story with a perfect “surfing life in paradise”. What else can you say. God can heal the broken hearted person. Living a simple life in Hawaii won’t fulfill you either.
I'm sorry but who could come forth that gave a "thumbs down" to this video? I may have not known or surfed with Andy personally but,,,, to give,,, a thumbs down,,,,why?
The best thing after returning home besides my wife and kids, is two days later after you get out of a private shower and you just sit on your side of the bed and your dog comes up to you,. Life is great, God Bless America
Paul O'Reilly thanks god for takeing Andy from his family... that’s what your god does... wake up idiot... god never existed...have some respect ya fuckin pig
Poor no she is wealthy because of who she married and her sponsors. 🙄 I lost my mother to an overdose and fiancée. I didn’t get anything but a hug from some family members. She didn’t surf she just married one.
I think Lyndie was an enabler to Andy. She knew what he was doing and just protected him and allowed him to continue what he did. His friends and family all knew he was a big druggie but what can they do? He was a grown man. Lyndie should have given him an ultimatum and maybe Andy would have kicked the habit. Who knows.??.
If you are in a relationship with a chemically dependent person, you have a responsibility to lead them to treatment or disassociate yourself from said person for the health of everyone. Everybody dropped the ball on this one including family, friends ,sponsors and business associates. Now he is gone. What a waste.
Only when you walk in their shoes can you judge. Unfortunately it is incredible hard to help a drug dependent, (or any 'dependent') person. You can only try to guide them to a place where they want to help themselves. And it can break your heart wanting to help but not being able to. This is from experience.
Move on you and those Hawaiian who new Andy was taking drugs, it makes no sense of making excuses for Andy anymore you all new the family his so call friends drug dealer's from the age of 15 years old you all new Andy taking drugs, then this movie about Andy why taking drugs is no excuse for mental illness all any excuse in life
This lady has it figured out, I am sorry for the loss she and her boy have suffered, but what a marvelous outlook she has.

Damn right she figured it out. She got $$ from Andy life insurance. Now with CEO and founder of RVCA.

he had a heart condition
Andy Irons died of a heart attack
caused by the hardening of his coronary arteries

Who are the 25 assholes that gave this video a thumbs down? Definitely not surfers.
I think Lyndie was an enabler to Andy. She knew what he was doing and just protected him and allowed him to continue what he did. You obviously never handle such situation.
James Smith You’re absolutely right. Some people just can’t do / face it. It’s a fine line.
It's a tough call, you know that.

So it’s really that simple hey? Wake up to the human element of life
