Agreed. His backside attack remains unparalleled to me. I understand you gotta grab the rail in most situations, backside while tube riding but it’s kinda ugly.

Bobby Martinez 2nd best for overall backhand imo he just mastered backhand like no other even if its a loop. For barrel & especially pig-dogging. Andy forever no contest.

Sorry to say, but nobody has ever been able to surf in the upper echelon realm of Andy. If you don't understand this, then you don't know what it feels like to strive to attain that level of talent, which seemed to come effortlessly and naturally for Andy. A.I. forever.... He is my religion.

I know Kelly is good but Andy totally made Kelly step his game up, I honestly feel that no one rides deeper throatier barrels than Andy. Hardcore to the fullest, def my favorite surfer even before his death. I used to watch this guy rip when I was a grom. There is a picture of him @ Huntington on the wall getting it!

I know it's not the gnarliest shit but Andy Irons honestly from this video I've noticed this dude had some of the sickest cutbacks I've ever fuckin seen!!! Like he rounds them out so far down the line and then when he's coming back towards the lip on his bottom turn to go up towards the lip he fuckin literally get parallel with the sea and pulls all those g-forces engine BOOOOOM comes up to the lip heavy!!!!! I don't know what it is about people who have a bunch of personal demons and drown themselves and drugs but I just think there's so much cooler individuals then a lot of square ass people and they usually have the heaviest deepest Hearts and Thoughts. And are usually some of the most interesting people in the world and the fact that they have all this depth and interesting qualities is why they used the drugs. It's because the weight of all of their being is too much to deal with. I'm not joking when I say that Kelly Slater is like one of the only f****** guys who never does drugs that I think is just super interesting and cool. They call Kelly Slater the f****** Shaman and I met him twice and served with him at the same brakes on Northshore few times and he just seemed super intense and I'll never forget that one cloudbreak where it was huge and massive and Kelly Slater came in to commentate for a little bit, one of the guys was saying after Kelly left that you can't even look at the guy in his eyes because he said it's like electricity and Kelly's eyes and then he just sees right through you and that it made him feel super uncomfortable. I'll never forget that the announcer said that cuz it was just so trippy because normally they try to act all fake and charismatic but you could tell that Kelly shook him so much of the bone that he had to deviate off the normal course of commentary in order to say how Kelly is made him feel LOL!!

dude did some stylin' floaters
Floaters are gnarly and underrated these days. And how he made vertical reentry turn into a floater then a helicopter or slide. HIC boards looked better for him, but wish he used heavier slightly convexed bottomed boards for certain heavier conditions. Saw a video interview of his quiver and how he like heavier glassed boards for some thick conditions and glassed fins, which was nice. .
Yeah his floaters were sick as f*** and super stylish but I left a comment saying that I think he honestly has some of the sickest cutbacks ever f****** seen in my life!! He literally pumps down the line so far that it's almost the end of the f****** wave and then he comes back and on that bottom turn before he hits the lip he always always gets parallel with the water to gain all that energy just to come up to the lip and smack the f*** out of it! Seriously like I've never seen anybody do cutbacks with that much style and passion and honestly tons of Rage! Like I never use exclamation marks in my riding LOL but Andy is literally made me😂😂😂😂
ALL of this was routine for pros until 3:35.
That cutback and Andy's on rail turning is what sets him above the rest of the PROFESSIONALS.
