Usually the opening ceremonies are just the athletes circling the arena, but the fact that Paris decided to do it by boat on the Seine through Paris is a wonderful idea.
The contrast between Paris and the other games is striking. Fencing at the Grand Palais, beach volleyball under the Eiffel Tower, archery at Les Invalides, horse riding at Versailles, never has a city been such a perfect stage for sport. The French atmosphere was there. The stadiums were packed. We Danced, we vibrated. The crowds broke into spontaneous renditions of La Marseillaise on any pretext, including during the night time ascent of the Olympic cauldron into the sky. France arrived at the Games shaken by two unexpected rounds of parliamentary elections that ended in a political stalemate. Surprisingly, the Games were a complete success, in a divided France that managed to unite for the duration of the Games. « La France ne peut être la France sans la grandeur. »
It is understood that the French Olympic Organizing Committee dimmed the lights at the opening and closing ceremonies to put the spotlight on the athletes. Any ordinary person would notice.
I was at the Pont de la Tournelle during the opening ceremony and watching this now gives me even more goosebumps. What a spectacular opening ceremony. It's definitely the greatest live show ever done. Big congratulations to Paris and the people of France. You all should be very proud of yourselves.
Celine Dion singing beneath the rings on the Eiffel Tower is hands down the most iconic thing I’ve ever seen in an opening ceremony. What an amazing performance too, especially when you consider her recent health troubles. It was spine tingling. It’ll always be my defining memory of Paris 2024. I can’t imagine how any other city will be able to top it.
Unfortunately she did not sing live and the recording was remastered to make it pitch perfect. She cannot sing like that anymore with her condition. Smoke and mirrors.

My favorite opening ceremony ever! Paris was a stunning backdrop for this innovative show. It was so fun to watch and so were the games that followed. Thank you Paris! Love from an American.
France went so unreasonably hard this year. A beautiful statement on who the French people are, where they’ve come from, what they have endured, and where they are going. Brilliant stuff. The new gold standard.

One of the most creative, provocative, emotional and beautiful opening ceremonies in history. This will be one that people remember for their whole lives.
Paris, despite political turmoil, poor weather, malevolent bots and sabotage on the train network, you won the gold medal for a great Olympics! Take a bow. ♥
This opening showed thr world the french spirit : they will always fight for freedom for all, will always fight to promise a better day for anyone whoever they are, will always fight for human love and respect. Thank you France for not letting us down.❤
The French opening ceremony was very creative and modern, very different. I like it. I am not sure what L.A. will offer and how it will show itself as a creative interesting place for everyone of every age. We can most likely expect just a stadion opening with some singing celebrity that's it. Grateful for this games in Paris as it was somehow unique and different. Less stadion, more culture, more city sightseeing combined with sport - I liked it a lot.
You’re not sure how L.A. - one of the most diverse and creative spaces in the world - will present itself? We’re talking about the center of glitz, glam and movie magic. Paris had a spectacular opening. But I am sure L.A. will be fine.
When I started watching, I didn't expect much, but I ended up watching the whole thing! I loved the clever blend of classic French culture and historical references with modern French pop culture. Many parts were very emotional, like the statues of French women who made their mark on history. And for those saying there were no French performers, you're wrong, the majority of the performers were French. Aya Nakamura, Gojira, Marina Viotti, Axelle Saint-Cirel, Juliette Armanet, Philippe Katerine, Rim'K etc... People are hating because of a single scene, and simply because it's "trendy" to hate on anything French...
Exactly there were 20-30 woke minutes that the French themselves condemn, out of 240 minutes and they are going to do a complete bashing because they hate France, this bad buzz was orchestrated by the English and the Russians mainly because they organized London 2012 and that everything that can follow is null in their eyes and the Russians not having been invited because of the geopolitical situation, they managed so that the small dysfunctions take a considerable place.
I want to clarify that I who loved England before, having been to London 3 times. It's over, I don't want to hear about them for the rest of my life. They spend their time in the football world already making fun of us, talking about farmers league and now with the Olympics they have shown their aversion to our people again with continuous bashing, even a few days after the end of the Olympics on social networks. In France we never speak badly of them, they have a real superiority complex, it's frightening.
That was so spectacular, and Celine Performing on the Eiffel Tower after the lightning of the cauldron in the sky was one of the greatest moment in a Ceremony ever
I am absolutely speechless, only in Paris they could come up with something so beautiful and such a feast for the eyes. Unfortunately all the critics they had for the ceremony are only a product of ignorance. So sorry for those people that didn't see the sheer beauty in all this. But they deserve it they have no joy in life but only looking for the bad and that is their karma. And what about Céline Dion singing Edith Piaf. Shivers down my spine
I loved these Olympiads. I loved this opening ceremony. It was sold as a failure and yet, we made the greatest opening ever. France is great at putting on a show when they want to.
I’ve never seen such a sophisticated thing. It’s « avant-gardiste » at so many levels. French are simply genius. Their ambition do push-ups while they sleep
@@KonstantinosPhillippikos OG Olympics had the athletes in the nude. I suppose you would also disapprove of that in the name of your lord, but guess what, it's the Olympics, not a Christian mass.
Whatever your opinion the opening ceremony, the musical score was INCREDIBLE, specifically the Solidarite segment at 2:48:20 when the horse is going down the Siene. That incredible visual coupled with the music is one of the most stunning moments of any opening ceremony.
The synchronicity part was epic as well. I keep playing it over and over again. Then the Eternite part is just one of the most beautiful scores l ever heard. When Amelie Mauresmau enters through the gate just amazing. Caught me off guard how beautiful it was and l burst into tears because it was just perfect.
Honestly for me it's in my top3 of best opening ceremony of the Olympics it celebrates freedom diversities I love it❤❤and I will never understand the drama about the fact that the show includes drag queens in there they are stunning❤❤and those who only make speculation just based on their ignorance will never go far in their lives

Sadly, when we see the first few minutes of the closing ceremony, we can only imaging how stunning would have been this opening ceremony with a sunny weather 😢😢 Don't get me wrong, it was fantastic, but Paris really shines at sunset.
Opening ceremonies on sunny days are commonplace and boring. This time, the theme was earth colors, with water, fire, wind, earth, green plants, metal, and grandeur, and the delicate and careful design and setup, dance and performance evoked the feeling of nature. We can surmise that the themes were earth, nature and people, space + modern times. So it seems to have been designed and engineered to work well both on sunny and cloudy days. In fact, this time, rain created a better atmosphere than sunny weather, and many people felt nostalgic.
In an interview, he said that the athletes felt lonely because the last Tokyo Games were held without spectators, the spotlight was on the torch relay and the opening ceremony, and the Olympics were used and abused to promote a cult. Because Japan treated its athletes so badly, it can be assumed that France took inspiration from that and dimmed the lights at the opening and closing ceremonies to put the spotlight on the athletes. In fact, all the events were held on a grand scale under clear skies and in bright venues, and the athletes were smiling and overjoyed.
It's totally true, it will be an eternal regret, there has never been a rainy July 26 in Paris for 15 years !!!!!! And on the weather map of Europe, Paris was the only place where it rained !!!! (it rained on July 27 and then during the day, glorious weather until the end of the Olympics for 2 weeks) I don't know if we realize 🤣The organizers couldn't believe it, it had to fall that day, it's really sad even if sometimes it added a certain dimension like the dance of the chansigneur (hard of hearing) in front of the light show of the Eiffel Tower but 3 quarters of the time it prevented a lot of things, for example, the parade of the Paris firefighters or the BMX show in front of the parade of the athletes (canceled because the ramps were so slippery, we can see it in the images, they are at a standstill)

@@Airlink_SG and literally, the rain started at 7 pm, just with the ceremony. This was almost a divine curse hahaha
This ceremony was a masterpiece, I felt so proud as a French watching the ceremony. It was an unforgettable moment, I was very skeptical of the Olympics in Paris but it turned into an incredible success! It was two weeks of pure joy and an unifying event for people worldwide (and the French itself)! Thanks all for making this Paris Olympics amazing! ❤
Je n'ai jamais été aussi fier d'être français que durant ces deux semaines de Jeux, dès la cérémonie d'ouverture on a senti qu'on vivait quelque chose d'unique!!❤🎉
A deluge of rain was promised at the ceremony, but as the motto of Paris says "Fluctuat nec mergitur": She (Paris) is tossed by the waves, but does not sink. Despite the dreadful weather, Paris staged the biggest opening ceremony ever, turning the rain to its dramatic and elegant advantage.
We watched it live, it was already so emotional but when Celine Dion startet singing standing on the Eiffel Tower we heard some sniffles from our German correspondent He was so matter-of-factly the whole time before but hearing her sing brought him to tears. With his voice breaking he said that celine dion has touched his heart. I started crying too.🩵🩵🩵
It seemed like all the rain in the world couldn’t dampen the spirit and the joie de vivre of the participants and performers in this most original and possibly the best Olympics opening ceremony in history. Well done Paris!
This is an opening ceremony that will be heard of for generations. Paris, the city of light, lived up to its name. The ceremony was risky, inventive and controversial just like the city. Well done, Paris 2024. Merci Paris, for an excellent and well organized global event. My home city is next. See you in Los Angeles in 2028!
It was only controversial where things were purposely put in to advance an agenda that will decrease the birth rate. A government should not support such things, and the entire world and THEIR KIDS are watching… everything on that bridge was an abomination and should not have been included. 99% of anti lgbtq hate or what have you would be eliminated if people would stop adding stupid people just to include them. A functioning, mixing pot one could call it would have them appear because their technical ability made them the obvious choice… the only obvious thing about the woman with the headdress was she was so fat she couldn’t manipulate the turntable without turning her fat around to use her other hand. Thats another thing governments should not support!!
The Eurodance bit from 2:30:48 was the most brilliant tribute to the greatest generation of club music that filled the floor at everything from school leaver’s discos to university house parties. These Olympics might have just confirmed Freed From Desire as the zillenial Bohemian Rhapsody 🕺
I'm Japanese. Paris opening ceremony was really wonderful compared to Tokyo!! It was a lively opening ceremony that symbolized art and beauty!!!♥♥ Thank you FRANCE🇫🇷
47:10 This performance gave me chills. The way they depicted the painting "Liberty Guiding the People" made by Eugène Delacroix and all that on the song "À la volonté du peuple" from Les Misérables was incredible. The camera movements, the actors' performance, and the way the Assassin's Creed guy introduced the scene were really cool. They represented French culture really well. I don't know if you noticed but at 47:53, they put the Conciergerie in the background to then make a transition with the next performance of Gojira which took place there (48:55).
I just love how 2024 this opening ceremony is. Very fresh, drenched in pop culture, innovative. I remember reading in the comments WAY WAY back I think this was when Paris was just announced as host, that men cycling in baguettes will be in the ceremony. Well whoever wrote that I hope got shushed 😂😂😂😂
I am a foreigner who lives in Paris. Wasn’t interested at all but decided to go to the opening ceremony pretty much the last minute when I heard that Céline Dion was confirmed to sing. Turned out it was THE BEST decision I’ve made in past years. I will treasure this transcendant, out-of-world, hard-to-explainly beautiful experience in MY WHOLE LIFE ❤❤❤ bravo Paris 2024
it was for the first time in the center of a city (the most beautiful in the world) , not in a simple uggly stadium for the beginning in july, even if the Stade de France is incredible in the end for "para"). thank you France
Im very surprised to see positive comments under this video. Sometimes, just because it’s France, people just hate everything that comes from this country. Anyway this was a wonderful opening ceremony and memorable olympics, congrats France ! 🇫🇷
There were a lot of bots and trolls initially flooding comment threads with negative comments to discredit the Paris games. Now the games are over, the positive comments are coming to the fore. Glad people are able to appreciate the Paris games, regardless.
One of the signs of the quality of a work of art is its resistance to being interpreted in a unique way. If the aesthetic experience is the meeting between three parties, namely the work, its author and the public, then a condition of this meeting is a confidence in "this other"s sincerity, at the risk of making the experience impossible. The question then arises of a work of art considered offensive despite the denials of its author. This is the difficulty inherent in any human relationship and at the same time it is what gives it all its meaning: an authentic relationship requires a step into the unknown, an elementary trust in other's word. Do not stop at what separates. Works of art are sometimes the place where divisions are most visible, they can also allow us to practice an authentic encounter.
Many cool moments but the passage on the bridge is my favourite. Eurodance tracks + some iconic French pop like Mylene Farmer to accompany very varied dancers including 2 drag queens a ballet dancer a couple doing folkloric dance a disabled break dancer etc plus all the dancers on the boat... ?!! This was so much fun and energy! And the title of the tableau rightfully said "united in diversity". The fact that many people saw something wrong with it (and I've seen them use words like "perverted") is disheartening and only reflects the darkness of their own heart.
everything is said. Watching the replay, I find that from the "festivity" table, the ceremony shifts into something unreal: nightfall, the rain, this passage with the dancers, not to mention everything that will follow ( the rider, the flame, Celine Dion...). magic! a new milestone in pop culture!
this is the most clever opening ceremony ever, it spread all over the Paris city, so ppl don't have to chase for the stadium tickets. everyone can enjoy the event in their own capacity around the city.
Not everyone, you had to pay expensive tickets to attend in the stands. Otherwise, you couldn't see anything from afar on the Seine shores and many people went home because of the rain and poor visibility.
@@KragV A lot of french didn't want these olympics. It was not the case for me. But, as you said, at the end, french was very sad when the olympics went to end.
I was watching the opening ceremony in real time. The moment the Godzilla scene was shown on screen, my heart skipped a beat, and I was so impressed, how cool! The way he stood with thier legs spread apart in all black fashion against the wall of that huge, beautiful beige building made quite an impact.
I am french and I am very happy that you like this ceremony and the olympics game. You know that it was a great pride for my country to organise this olympics and paralympics game. I have rewatched the entire ceremony. Something I hadn’t noticed live was how remarkably smooth the transitions between the different sections were, despite spanning an entire city. For instance, the way they seamlessly moved between the various representations and the athlete presentations was impressive. The main issue, however, was the way the IOC filmed the event overall, as if they were somewhat overwhelmed. I hope that, at some point, they will release a remastered version of the ceremony, incorporating footage that wasn’t included initially and using different camera angles
OBS, which is appointed by the IOC was not ready for the challenge and missed some very important images or performances (how is it possible to miss the Patrouille de France ✈️ over Paris ?) I think that the directors and cameramen in France covering the Tour of France or all the other ceremonies would have done a better job. Hope Thomas Joly will release a Director’s cut including the images of everything that was not on TV.

I found the transition at 56:09 so perfect ! When you think this is across an entire city, it is amazing such coordination
That Gojira/Marina Viotti performance at Conciergerie was epic. The perfect way to start a French Olympics - embrace the history involving one of France's most famous people (Marie Antoinette) and the very building that she was condemned to death in and pair the unlikely marriage of metal and opera with one of France's best bands: Gojira. Hats off to the geniuses that came up with this idea and to the performers that made it happen.
@@johnmurphy7674Céline Dion for sure. Not a fan of Gaga's performance though (but I don't care much for the original song). The best after Céline was Axelle Saint-Cirel imo, singing the national anthem. Gojira was amazing too.
It was a very beautiful opening ceremony! I was so drawn to it that I couldn't take my eyes off it, and the performance of nature, the earth, the universe, and the people made me feel nostalgic. I felt relieved and open-minded. When the French delegation appeared on their boat, I was moved to tears by their lively and natural smiles. It was an emotional real-time experience! Please, could you upload the "clean" ceremony WITHOUT the comments of the reporters? All too often their comments are so annoying, notably when they drown out the background score and completely ruin the mood! It's like going to see a movie and having to endure someone sitting next to you who keeps explaining everything on the screen! That just gets on my nerves, to say the least.
@@verdiernoyama9681je suis pas du tout d'accord avec toi, exemple pendant le passage du bateau français, pendant 3 mins non stop les anglais ont fait que parler sans interruption, même pas 3 secondes ! Is this the MOST EPIC AND HISTORICAL Olympic Openings? Gojira!!? Yes it is
Usually the opening ceremonies are just the athletes circling the arena, but the fact that Paris decided to do it by boat on the Seine through Paris is a wonderful idea.

Where are u from?

It is understood that the French Olympic Organizing Committee dimmed the lights at the opening and closing ceremonies to put the spotlight on the athletes.

Celine Dion singing beneath the rings on the Eiffel Tower is hands down the most iconic thing I’ve ever seen in an opening ceremony.
Incredible ceremony, I love thé Gojira part, but also the Céline part, and everything...

This time, the theme was earth colors,
with water, fire, wind, earth, green plants, metal, and grandeur, and the delicate and careful design and setup, dance and performance evoked the feeling of nature.
We can surmise that the themes were earth, nature and people, space + modern times.
So it seems to have been designed and engineered to work well both on sunny and cloudy days.
In fact, this time, rain created a better atmosphere than sunny weather,
and many people felt nostalgic.
In an interview, he said that the athletes felt lonely because the last Tokyo Games were held without spectators, the spotlight was on the torch relay and the opening ceremony, and the Olympics were used and abused to promote a cult.
Because Japan treated its athletes so badly,
it can be assumed that France took inspiration from that and dimmed the lights at the opening and closing ceremonies to put the spotlight on the athletes.
In fact, all the events were held on a grand scale under clear skies and in bright venues, and the athletes were smiling and overjoyed.
We have never seen such an amount of rain at the end of July.
More 25-30 mm of rain in less than 3 hours 🤯😂
Well, that is history now 😅
It's totally true, it will be an eternal regret, there has never been a rainy July 26 in Paris for 15 years !!!!!!
And on the weather map of Europe, Paris was the only place where it rained !!!! (it rained on July 27 and then during the day, glorious weather until the end of the Olympics for 2 weeks)
I don't know if we realize 🤣The organizers couldn't believe it, it had to fall that day, it's really sad even if sometimes it added a certain dimension like the dance of the chansigneur (hard of hearing) in front of the light show of the Eiffel Tower but 3 quarters of the time it prevented a lot of things, for example, the parade of the Paris firefighters or the BMX show in front of the parade of the athletes (canceled because the ramps were so slippery, we can see it in the images, they are at a standstill)

To be fair that's what the opening ceremony for the rugby world cup looked like 😂

Formidable! This olympics opening was beyond words… Love from Romania to our cousins of the great people of France! 😍
Merci mon ami xoxo
Vous avez tout compris ❤🇨🇵🙏🏻
This! ⬆ Nice to see Paris getting comments showing appreciation for a fantastic show!
this is the most clever opening ceremony ever, it spread all over the Paris city, so ppl don't have to chase for the stadium tickets. everyone can enjoy the event in their own capacity around the city.
Not everyone, you had to pay expensive tickets to attend in the stands. Otherwise, you couldn't see anything from afar on the Seine shores and many people went home because of the rain and poor visibility.
Clever 😂

It sure took some convincing but ultimately I'm glad the french admitted to be wrong about the Paris Olympics, they ended up loving every part of it.

I was watching the opening ceremony in real time.
The moment the Godzilla scene was shown on screen, my heart skipped a beat,

One of memorable opening ceremony. Out of the box and you did it very well. Merci Paris from Thailand . I’ll miss this enjoying olympic time 🇫🇷🙏🏽👏🇹🇭
I have rewatched the entire ceremony.
OBS, which is appointed by the IOC was not ready for the challenge and missed some very important images or performances (how is it possible to miss the Patrouille de France ✈️ over Paris ?)
I think that the directors and cameramen in France covering the Tour of France or all the other ceremonies would have done a better job.
I love it ! It’s magic, exceptional ! Wonderful!!! Bravo la France 🎉 we did something new, something to remember! See you in 2124 for a new edition 😆
