Great to see some decent fish caught at the mokes. I’ve been out a couple times on my ski and fishing was meh… caught fish but nothing big I wouldn’t get easily at the hen/chicks islands. Might be worth another trip!
If you want big fish at the Mokes then you have to watch this episode ruclips.net/video/DaiMrP7Vzn8/видео.html this was filmed the next day and OMG the size of the snapper were insane
Epic snapper fishing at its best Al ! I could see the worried look on your face when you hooked up near that cliff face and the snapper was dragging you closer to the rock face and you slam the Outback into reverse ! Exciting stuff !🍻
Thank you !! Yeah, I lost quite a few really big fish into the rocks prior to landing that good one. You think you have them under control then they go for a big run and do you on the structure. Wait until you see what we get next episode, its crazy good
Fished the Moko Hinau islands back in early 90's. The fishing back then was out of this world . The first day of the first trip we did there in 91 we caught 5 snapper over 20 pounds with the best going 28. We easily caught a dozen between 10 and 19 There were three of us fishing. No soft plasics back then , just lots of berley and and big unweighted baits drifted down. Best snapper fishing day i have ever experienced. Doesnt fish like that now because of higher visitation due to more reliable fuel efficient outboards allowing smaller boats to make the 60 k trip but the fishing is still very very good.
So cool wish I could do that. Also I have recently got a kayak and was wondering where you would recommend fishing with it first I. Have been to my local lake a few times and am comfortable with the kayak. And am looking to go out in the Port Phillip Bay or anywhere else you recommend.
Thanks, find some sheltered spots and most importantly pick the right wind conditions. I started kayak fishing at Campbells Cove on gentle Northerly days doing that helped heaps.
@ thanks a lot I will definitely try it out, I am headed to Wilson’s prom for Christmas I’ll give the kayak a go in shallow inlet it’s protected and has been very productive previously.
All Snapper fight this hard, most Melbournians just don't know because they only fish for spawners which don't have the same energy, off the coast however especially around shallow reef like this they fight much harder and taste better.
Newer style reels have way bigger drag washes and shallow spool but still hold 200m of braid. You can't really say it's only a 2500 size 😂. My 2500 legalias has 21mm drag washes compared to my older 4000 has 20mm. Carbon fiber drag washes are a drop in replacement for ~$4 a reel and its super simple to do. I have been buying chinese reels in the budget end for $30 you can get a really good reel. My latest $80 chinese reel is amazing. Its equilivant to a quality $200 brand name reel.
Honestly, I still get very scared of them when having close encounters. On the last day of this trip I had a massive one circle my yak out deep, not sure if it was a big white or Mako but I wasn't sticking around to find out. These experiences are amazing but big sharks are in big numbers around there
That’s crazy al what an amazing place and what a fishery awesome to watch cheers
Thanks so much, it really was an amazing experience!
The first 30 seconds had me with a huge smile on my face - you look so happy - the the reel went off 🙂
Thanks yeah it was a really special moment, and turned out to be an epic day
@@fishingmad Alan, any particular reason why your fishing braid is white? Does its color matter really?

Thanks !! Yeah its an epic location and we got onto some bigger fish the following day too
This looks like a great option. Kayaks and a mother ship. A bit like Big Cat Reality with kaks😊...and further south.
Thanks !! Yeah it was an awesome experience...
Welcome to New Zealand guys 🎣🦈
Awesome!...thank you very much!
So dark the snapper, love watching your videos ,love the kayak fishing 😜👍
Thanks !! I really appreciate it and yes the darker colouration on the snapper there were crazy
Why are they so dark
@@miskeen8701 they live and feed among the kelp
Big snappa
Amazing video. What line did you use?
Thanks and a big hug from Germany
Thank you, I used 16lb Tasline on both Reels which was a Stradic SWB 4000 and Sustain C5000 and Twin Power XD3000
Check out the color on those fish, very bronze looking. It's Jurassic Park for snapper! 😮
Yeah, the color of those fish was insane! They call them Calpis because of there dark colouration because of the food and rocks, they fight so hard
Dreamland
Yeah its epic....
Great video mate. Quick question what are your opinions on using 2.5inch soft plastic grubs as trout lures?
Its crazy how he goes from fishing local in aus to fishing abroad

What is ur trick or tip to get over the fear of a shark or deep on the kayak?
