that's a huge fish landed on a kayak. congrats. hey bruv, look into "low bracing" techniques when you're getting into the surf zone. it's not like having a cockpitted kayak where you can use hip pressure, but it will help. essentially you make an outrigger with your paddle angle and put pressure on the wave side, allowing you to side surf / "slide" a little and keep from your leading edge catching and rolling you forward. elbow up, wrist down, use the back of the paddle face. typically you're reaching back and pushing forward toward the bow. good luck and have a blast
Yep I'm totally familiar with the technique. While I'm not a master at it I can do it, that wave just caught me off gaurd lol. Had a lot more power behind it than I anticipated.. rookie mistake🤣

I could feel the hook buried into the stomach lining (confirmed when Filleted). the fish was dead the moment it was hooked unfortunately. But made sure nothing went to waste and the fish was enjoyed by many

The kayak was from sponsorship thanks to viking kayaks. But all up my setup is worth about $3200NZD New.
Easily done cheaper if buying second hand. Hope that helps mate

Ha, you need to free spool kingfish, marlin etc when they try to swallow your livebait give them a couple of minutes before you put the drag up. good luck
Couple minutes and the fish will be in the reef, there's a fine line between giving them enough time to eat and too much time befor they swim to the weeds. Fishing in 14m of water any longer than 10seconds is game over!

Hahah thanks heaps! I've actually got a 270 kings awning I just never use it (came with the van). Takes 30minutes to set it up and gets sketchy in the wind.
