Celebrating 20 Years of REV platform by Ski-Doo

- Twenty years ago, a team of engineers and designers at Ski-Doo shifted a paradigm and disrupted the entire snowmobile industry with the REV rider-forward platform, forever changing the way we ride. This is how it happened.
In 2003, the introduction of the REV platform took the snowmobile world by storm. Its pyramidal frame construction changed the whole idea of what a snowmobile platform could look like, launching a REVolution that lives on today. Two decades after, the Ski-Doo REV platform continues to set the standard to which all other snowmobiles are compared.

As a Polaris owner, I truly enjoy the R&D that goes into BRP products. The testing and innovation is top notch. I feel like I’m part of the Polaris R&D team because half my stuff has recalls or stop rides currently. Too quick to market, not enough time testing. Just my .02, I think BRP will continue to lead the industry in innovation. Kudos.
We thank you for those kind words and look forward to sharing the trail/ mountain
I was just thinking the same thing. I'm a Polaris guy and was told my insurance is good if it were to burn down, so I'm just gonna ride till she gets spicy.
@@Tinvaak Guess we can agree to disagree, not sure how you can tell someone about their experiences. About as ignorant as me telling you about yours.
Driving position - I have 1991 YAMAHA SnoSports that are rider forward … bit before rev …..
got a 07 renegade x 800 and i keep it forever
As someone who works for an Arctic Cat dealership, I can say without question that the rev chassis is the most revolutionary thing snowmobiling has ever seen. Hats off to Ski-doo for creating this masterpiece.
I remember my first ride on a 2003 Rev, Blair Morgan edition. What a game changer. Still fun to rip a 90s sled on a perfectly smooth twisty trail (low CG is great), but when you hit the first bump you want to get on a REV. Love my 2022 Renegade.
Awesome to see each generation and what the Rev really changed moving forward, quite literally!
Oh man. Good read. I remember my dad's business finally made good money we could buy new snowmobiles. It was 2003 he spring ordered me a 2004 600 sdi Blair Morgan edition. That was an incredible year. It was so obvious that sled was bar down beyond anything on the snow and the looks!!! Just incredible! That Rev Changed everything. I still have that sled, 18,000 miles on it. Absolute gem. 19 years later on my 19 xrs.
Edit.. I honestly still have that jacket Blair and Karl were wearing lol.
@@mv3380 the only sad thing about the REV showing up is that the 700cc class died. I hope ski-doo matches Polaris with a 650 - always thought that was a sweet spot balancing performance and reliability.
I went from a 02' Artic Cat, to a 03'REV and never looked back, it truly was light-years ahead!!!
First gen rev Is still my favorite snowmobile to this day.
I ride one of those to this day
@@prestonscherer2062 Just put on a 150 miles on my 07' 600 SDI yesterday. Still rides like a dream.
Rev's still a great machine!
Bought a new 2006 Rev 600 SDI that I still own! Best engine and performance of those years by far. Got a lot of crap for purchasing the SDI model for an extra $500. That ended up being a steal!!! Never took into consideration for the less oil and gas mileage and the power was always consistent. 12000 miles it went out and we stuck a new short block in it last year. Still a fun sled!
first snowmachine I ever rode was a Motoski Futura 440. found it in the yard amongst the brush when we bought our house. Dad got it running and it was the source of lots of entertainment, good times and memories.
got my first rev last year 2005 MXZ 600 then my brother crashed it now I have a switch back adventure. thank you skidoo for waking up the industry and making everyone better for it.
Snowmobiles advanced more in the last 20 years then the previous 75 years and the rev was the launch pad. No matter what brand you ride you have to understand what the rev did
I want my old MXZ back . Had a 600 and an 800. Probably the best handling sleds I've ever owned . Bravo BRP en 20 ans . Merci pour le REV 👍👍🇨🇦
Thank you for all these beautiful years of leading the industry BRP. Ive gotten so many great memories riding your sleds. Please continue! God Speed.
We appreciate the kind words and look forward to making more memories together! 💛
I came home from the war and got a REV. Damn, 20 years goes fast.
@@ChaseLandMgmt thank you, it was my pleasure
Thank you for your service. Huge respect.
@@Dooguy i appreciate that
I remember the first rev I rode, I bought one within a month, been on one since. The best thing to happen to the industry maybe since it’s creation.
Back in 2004 was my first year racing on Ski Doo in Snowcross. Absolutely blown away how good the Rev was especially on the rough tracks. Was extremely reliable as well.
Thank you Ski-Doo. You changed the industry. I can remember when a full day riding would be 60 miles. Now we do 3 times that with ease because of your constant innovation. I think R motion is almost as revolutionary as the Rev.
As a 1st gen rev rider, my friends on the "couch" style sleds seem to think that the Rev ruined snowmobiling. Apparently, they haven't rode mine for long enough yet 🤣. It is so much more comfortable through rough terrain and easier to ride harder for longer. While I plan on moving to a 4th gen Rev soon, I certainly will miss my 03 Rev. It has been, for the most part, an excellent sled.
Keep on innovating Skidoo. It is in your nature.
It was great to be part of the team then! Bruno, Jean-Guy, Bertol, Raymond, Yvon, Martin, Germain, good Job all!. The project was bearing the code name café racer to begin with. We also have to remember that the new riding position came up from trials from an ergonomic specialist hired by the Design department. 20 years wow time flies!
Best Snowmobiles On The Planet!!! Thank you Ski Doo, BRP, and Rotax!!
🙏
That your opinion. Opinions are like ‘Behinds’, everyone has one.
When I first got a snowscoot as a kid, it gave me the sense that a rider-forward would be way better.
Then seeing the first rev blew my mind
I love my doo. The 04 600 I have I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of, just because it’s such a great platform. I have 3 skidoos total and I can’t say enough about the love I have for them.
The REV through all of the years has been amazing. But let’s not forget Rotax and all of the other tech where BRP has the lead as well. I also love that the come out with something big but then continually refine it so the quality is top notch. Don’t let up Ski-doo. And don’t get cheap.
REV, RX1, Firecat was alot of new iron that winter. When I saw the first Rev, I couldn't foresee how it would take over the industry. But now, riding my 21 600xrs or my brothers 850x, I am very glad it did.
Over the past 40 year's. Ive owned and ridden all the Major 4 Snowmobile brand's. But Always went back to ski doo! Excellent Product!
As an owner of a 2005 adrenaline HO I can thank Ski Doo for an absolutely wicked snowmobile, still enjoy it today all the time, fast, comfortable, and reliable
👏
I still remember it like it was yesterday even though it was 2003, my first ride on a Rev, I had a ZX chassis, my buddy had a brand new Rev, just happened to be riding on a mogul and whooped out section of trail, my buddy let me try it, and I was blown away at the difference, no other change in history has made such a difference. I would still take a brand new 2003 Rev over any of the other brands 2023 models.
I absolutely love my rev, I have an extremely clean example of an 05 X package renegade, 136” track. Incredible machine
The most reliable snowmobile out there by far.
🤣
I agree my 2003 has yet to be rebuilt
@@tboystoys5682 how many miles do you have on that thing???
Ya ok if you believe
Very far from the most reliable, definitely the best riding sled, but the sealed bearings requiring to completely disassemble the motor every 5000km after that you’re running on borrowed time
So revolutionary that all brand use the same or very similar design
It’s simply crazy to me and probably many other riders how the G4/G5 simply feel like perfectly refined Original rev models. Thank you for being the best company on the snow!
Great video … thanks for sharing. We love you SkiDoo Team !!!
A+++
merci Joseph, sans toi nous ne serions pas ici aujourd'hui a explorer hors des sentiers battus
Great clip. Bravo Ski-Doo!
I just bought a 03 Rev, I started out on Ski-doo with the Elan and Olympique. I drove a Polaris Indy and I switched over to the Indy 500. I had an RXL and I bought a Cat with a 440 at one time. I have never owned a rider forward sled or even driven one. I am looking forward to riding the 03 MXZ this winter, I haven't had a sled for about 10 years. I would have bought a new sled if they offered some more affordable options.
After riding my brother's 2023 Lynx Rave 850 yesterday I'm not going to lie I didn't not want to get back on my 2023 Renegade with smart shocks
As a REV owner, I appreciate this
Love it! 👏
Still riding with my GF a GTX500Ss 2006 ans love it every ride
Oh my do I ever remember the REV Chassis when it first came out! I was a technician at a dealership and when the new chassis was released Bombardier sent around a demo REV to the dealers for customers could test before ordering a new sled for the next season. Well I hoped on it the first time and blasted across the field with a huge smile on my face thinking wow this thing is the most amazing snowmobile I have ever road. Soaked up bumps like nothing. Thats when I messed up, it was dark out when I rode it and I was ripping back with the sled in the ditch. Thats when I hit a big drift with it, flew through the air and nose dived it into a second drift throwing me off the sled! I out rode my headlight and didn't even see it! Needless to say I was ok, the sleds windshield ripped off, (they were designed to do just that) and the front bumper got a crack... Fun times!
I used to love watching the archives of the promo videos of the different sleds from back in the late 90’s to early 2000’s that skidoo used to have on there website 😢
There now easily found here on RUclips 👍
Can’t wait to snow check a 2024 XRS. Hopefully red and black this year! Keep up the great work!
Love my xp and xr sleds. Doo gang baby 🤙🏻 also pause at 3:26 guy all the way on the left flipping off the camera 😂😂
Best in the Business!
We rode one of the first Revs at Togwotee winter of 2003/2004. All of us were blown away ONCE we figured it out. Yes, you had to ride it different than the old sleds but it was 10x easier than the old sleds when you let it do the work. I've been a SkiDoo owner ever since but have been enjoying Snowbikes the last few years. Skidoo...it's time to REV the industry again with a purpose built single ski snowbike.... PLEASE!!!
Arctic cat did that years ago with the SVX 450,not positive why it failed but something tells Me Yeti and timbersled have an edge in design of snowbikes, also brp owned snohawk once and put it to bed.
My dad bought a factory race sled from Blair Morgan in 04 at the end of the race season it was a 440 short track and he put a 03 800cc motor from another ski doo and a 155 inch track and brought it to the mountains
How far the Summit sleds have come from the beginning! It's quite amazing how much better each generation has been than the one before, and the O.G. REV reigns as the ultimate example of that.
👏 Thank you!
I can remember my father telling me that when he went snowmobiling in Montana in about 2005, he was able to rent some 1st generation Rev summits. And apparently, stock snowmobiles just three years prior were not able to climb the stuff they were climbing as relative novices in deep snow riding. It is amazing how fast snowmobiles have progressed in 20 years.
Just picked up an 06’ Renegade 800 H.O. Today, man does she buck 🔥 thank you ski doo!!!
👏
I love skidooing, bravo les boys and girls 👏
So my dad bought a new 2023 ski doo 600, it’s in the repair shop already at peacock Ltd in Baldwin Michigan. He was Very upset that it had already broke and cant even go on a planed trip with his friends up the the UP of Michigan on the 12th for the week. As he has already planned as it won’t be done for a bulletin. It was shutting off and surging….. not fun for a brand new sled…. He is 65 with stage 4 bone cancer. It hurts me to see him missing a trip due too a bad product. He has owned many snowmobiles and actually has some vintage ski doos that he is fixing 3 of them to be exact. He had a bad first ride on the snowmobile and it will be at the dealership for a few weeks he said….😢 sad …. Not even 200 miles on the snowmobile yet.
Sad thing is ski doo knows about the problem, since 2019 they said…
We're sorry to hear about your situation, glad you are in contact with your dealer so they can get things resolved and get him back on the snow as soon as possible.
@@skidoo won’t be soon enough, he was very excited to buy another new ski doo as his last new one was an Arctic cat… he has that one still also. But he has lost interest on going on a trip with his friends. He has bought many new snowmobiles though his lifetime. From every manufacturer . This is the first to fail this fast. The Arctic is a 2019 and never had an issue. The one before that was a 2016 ski doo 600 sdi 2 up…. Never had an issue. Peacock Ltd said they had to put in for a-warranty… it will not be done in time for the trip as the gas tank will probably need replaced due to the problem that has been with these sleds since 2019…. He is redoing the (3 of the) 1980s ski doo stratos because he bought one new back then brand new…. He sad they are very reliable unlike this new one or the 2016. He sold the 2016 due to the cancer being in his bones but has since been in remission and is feeling good some days.
I have a 2013 Summit X 163" 800, the best sled I've ever had. But I still love my 98 Mt Max 600 and 96 Phazer LE 2" long track I saved for my Grandsons
Alot of focus on racing on all the latest social media blasts by skidoo. Would love to see a full mtn sled offered in a xrs turbo. Could hands down be the best sled. Watching the marriage between skidoo and lynx with there differences in suspension is potentially blending some crazy mastery. Being the 20th anniversary of the rev this launch might just send skidoo so far beyond any manufacturer in history.
Racing has always been at our core. As you may notice the Freeride is the chosen sled for our hillclimb racing efforts with the premium suspension package along with the 36" front end for bump absorption and stability not to mention you can also get it with the 850 E-Tec TurboR.
Hi Ski-Doo staff, can you make a video about Ski-Doo track lengths. Like the differences between 174, 165 and 154 tracks. I haven't found any observational pictures of the length differences of the tracks.
I think I speak for others as well when I say we would love a first gen rev body on a 5th gen chassis
Skidoo for the win!
Great !!
I had a rev but still I like my old zx model
Ordered my '23 and it is at dealer waiting on a part. That won't be delivered until May. 15 months after order. Ski Doo, please help me out
We know this situation is less than ideal. Your dealer remains the best point of contact for all things regarding your unit. They know and love the Ski-Doo brand just as much as you and they will continue to provide you with as much information as they can. We promise you will be updated as soon as we know more. So, keep an eye and ear out.
I love my 2004 mxz 500ss
I ride a 2003 600 rev...I've never needed anything else!
👏
i still have my 03 MXZX 800 REV love it over 10 k km on it
I have a old 320s ski doo similar to that first clip
Certainly big improvements when switch from 03 f7 to 03 600HO rev in chassis. Those firecat motors where fast, reliable but chassis was poor. Rev chassis was great (better in 04) , 600 HO motor was good until carb bodies wore out and isoflex ran out.
This hit the heart thank you #skidoo
Thank you! ❤️
Awesome loved this!
Glad you enjoyed this!
big ski-doo guy!
Go BLAIR MORGAN Go
Western Canadian Boy. ❤
@@lmtada simply the Best
Berthold Fecteau, un incroyable designer!
👏 Visionary
I have an original REV 2003 mxz-X800R with a little over 7000k and I ride it every winter. I have more fun on that than I do on my 17 850X renegade.
Does anyone remember the Polaris ad slamming the REV and the rider forward design lol
I'd love 2 136 REV Chassis with a 583 and a 670 built with my specs😁
nice to hear Mogan say the brand name properly- 'Skee-Doo' not 'Skid-ooo' 😀
Can yall just bring back the rc snowmachines please
What poster is that
Great story. Now that you have all the revenue from the all amazing Rev you can fire Evinrude back up. Or at least sell the company, so we can have a viable 2t outboard option. Thank you.
Owned every platform except the G5. I’d say the G3 was the one that really started to to turn the corner
Id agree. the XM chassis was a huge leap forward from the awful XP in the Backcountry. that G5 though is a monster. I cannot believe how far sleds have come in 15 years.
👍
we want a new tundra !
Next big thing will be the equivalent of a Baja sled. Super-long suspension travel. Pre-runner sleds!
Also needed is a smaller bore electric. 450-500cc's.
And a 600ace turbo. Thanks.
If not for BRP, Polaris would still have trailing arms and a gear driven reverse chain case.
Is BRP celebrating the fact they’ve finally delivered the 2003 sleds? Cause they sure as hell not delivering the 2023s
Nice troll.
@@Icutmetal ok that’s why my son’s sled is the only one the dealer is waiting on and the expected delivery date has been pushed back three times since December 1
Like #6. Thanks Ski-Doo...
I was like number 1 cause I always have the notifs for all of the post they post
They forgot to mention two points. They have greatly improve the "gas miles per gallon". MXZ 600 is a wonderful sled but with all these advancements comes sticker shock. I can no longer think of owning one of these. I am now a "rental rider" which means you don't see ski doo as a rental very often because of the price.
What's next? We keep thinking this is it and it gets better and better. Brp is years ahead
J'espère que vous allez faire la version francophone. Merci
the only thing i want back is the 2012 renegade 600 ace. that ride could last upto 30k miles without busting a motor n was really great on gas. nothing will ever beat that model hunting wise in my opinion. they should bring it back without changing a thing on everything they design except put in rmotion sliders for a change.
Hey David,
Love the feedback the Renegade Sport is still available with the 600 Ace in a lightweight and compact package. take a look at the link below
www.ski-doo.com/models/trail/renegade.html#sport
Absolutely love the 600ace
If only you could put research and development into reliability lol After growing up on skidoos, I switched to Yamaha and the quality difference is night and day
So what's the next big thing 🤔
still ripping the 98 skidoo formula dlx 583
It will be hard for me to give up my 2002 MXZ 700 its the perfect engine.
bring back the Traxter FFS
20 year's 3 bulkhead designs
I agree rev platform rocks first one i seen was way back early 2000 we were ride zx chassis in mountains when guy pulls up with a Rev Chassis and he kick our butt on this climb after riding & owning a Gen 4 850 Summit freinds calls cheaters go places with ease
Great advancements in snowmobiling!
Why did Ski Doo move away from the aerodynamic look? The rev Gen 4 and 5 look like sleds that had their chins cut off
This is a great question a lot of it comes down to the packaging/ body work of the machines themselves from weight and size perspective.
Please bring prices down. In the past 5-10 years the top line model has gone up by 8-10k
Where’s my new track?
too bad that in order to get a sled as simple made and easy to work on as the first rev, you have to buy a new Polaris matryx lol, wanna know how to make a new skidoo guy jealous? change your spark plugs.
I love my 2004 mxz 500ss
