    Here is what I think needs to be realized: Illinois isnt California. You can raise taxes and costs on everything in California and people will still want to be there because of the weather, the natural landscape, and the cultural appeal of the state. Chicago is an amazing city, but its an ice box much of the year, its surrounded by flat farm land, and has a poor reputation among large numbers of people. So while California can get away with these antics, Illinois cannot.

    • @MrJames1471
      @MrJames1471 3 года назад +14

      And Illinois has much more corruption and debt than California. Illinois is the only state to have a BBB- credit rating.

      California's economy is moving better than any other states economy and they have a substantial surplus, I believe they are now the sixth largest economy in the world ,they are also strong progressives ,it's not a coincidence.

    • @MrJames1471
      @MrJames1471 2 года назад +6

      @@frankd.506 It’s very much a coincidence. If progressives wish to own California, they’ll also have to own:
      1. One of the highest tax burdens in the nation.
      2. One of the highest amount of homeless per capita in the nation.
      3. Being the state within the highest percentage of people in poverty (according to the Supplemental Poverty Measure).
      4. State with the most mass shootings.
      The list goes on....

    • @MrJames1471
      @MrJames1471 2 года назад +5

      @@frankd.506 The primary reason that California has a surplus, is because the rich had a good year in the stock market. If that didn’t happen, there’s a fair chance they’d be in the red (where they’ve been years prior to the pandemic).If they don’t spend this money wisely (and there’s a high chance they’ll do that), the surplus will evaporate in no time at all.
      Also, I believe California (on its own) would be the fifth largest economy (as opposed to the sixth).

    • @frankd.506
      @frankd.506 2 года назад +2

      @@MrJames1471 The top 5 poverty states by percentage are all red states, let's remember California is very large so of course as a whole they're going to make some of the bad lists ,like most blue states they also pay more into the fed to compensate for the red states who typically take in more than they give, Their homelessness is greatly amplified by right wing news as though it doesn't exist in other states and California also has the most wealth as well so California will be just fine actually getting something for their tax dollars.

    How monies are used by cook county is a concern. 8.11 Billion dollar budget and we are paying for greenbelt project people to get their black belts. They can take out student loans like the rest of us. Road work is not getting done. Cook county spent 8 million for an animal shelter in Evanston but but we have roads like pulaski from 159th in Markham/midlothian to 127th street Alsip/Robbins that are virtually not drivable. Cook county litterally budgeted and hired personnel to help them budget which is an oxymoron. The cost of additional personnel is ridiculous upwards 80 to 179k a year plus pensions and benefits. Pulaski has been in disrepair since 2018 and in 2020 cook county allotted 2.4 million to study the issues. I read the new cook county budget, all 2000 pages and Pulaski Crawford does not appear on the budget. There are several references to proprietary spending which I would like to see line by line disclosure on. I would watch that story.

    This is a joke. Property Taxes are NOT the only source of income for any of these taxing bodies, so saying all of the "debt," which is grossly and misleadingly inflated in this calculation, should be assigned to individual homes is ridiculous. The non-partisan group that guy belongs to is a Koch-Funded Libertarian front group that is intent on ending government services and privatizing everything. If they get their way, you'll have to pay a toll to pull out of your driveway, because you'll be on a privately owned street.

    Illinois municipal bonds and loans are rated as junk. Meaning there is no way out of the hole. Not having a budget for a decade let the democrats put a lot of money directly into their own pockets. The unfunded pensions are guaranteed by the state constitution, or in other words enforced by law even if a makes a city or county borrow more than it can ever repay. The extraordinary rise in property tax, wage tax has ensured flight of the non-ingrained wealthy. An utter lack of investment in infrastructure, unfair tax schedules for those who actually employ others, coupled with politicians lying about the problem=flight of anyone not invested in a state pension.

    This is what happens when you promise pensions you can't afford for city, county and state workers. Illinois is basically bankrupt, and thinks they can over tax their way out of the mess they have created over the decades from corruption and mismanagement of funds.
    Did you see the spreadsheet, billions needed in the pension funds. I have heard that they pay all their bills, months behind like 4-6 in arrears, even lottery winners have to wait months to get paid. Ironically, Illinois was the first to start a lottery, so go figure on that one as lottery's are huge money makers for a state.
    The float has about run out for the state and I am sure their bond rating is not very good. People wanting to leave probably can't sell in some areas because of blight and just vacate to get out of there, why you see so many abounded houses in certain neighborhoods. Working a average job in the service sector isn't going to pay all the expenses of high property taxes, sales taxes and heating bills just to name a few.
    Glad our family was smart enough to get out of their in the late 60's as the constant cold winters and lack of enough good paying jobs didn't really exist, in most parts of the state besides the Chicago area. The gasoline tax in Illinois is very high, but yet a lot of the roadways are in bad shape. Enough said. Good Luck to those that stay and keep paying more and more every year on all kinds of taxes while the state goes further in debt. The float will eventually run out and it wont be pretty.
