There needs to be a better way to tax. Kaegi won't be re-elected. maybe the city/country should cut the jobs. People who can't pay the taxes are going to go bankrupt or have their houses go into foreclosure.
I see you missed what was causing the property tax increase. The tax breaks for billion dollar companies in the area were passed on to the residents. Thats one of Trump's speaking points, but this is the real life result of that
@@oskie2058 Government always has some lame brain excuse for raising taxes! There is no good excuse! I'm 68 years old, and back in 1982 when I was married we had a beautiful $80,000.00 home in the country. Back then our property taxes was only $750.00 a year. Very reasonable! That same house today would be over $5,000.00 in property taxes. And the wages haven't went up that much to keep up with the cost of living. Also back then my former wife and I was making $60,000.00 a year together. We lived on one check! And we had a brand new car and new truck, Ford F250. Back then you could buy a nice new car or truck for under $10,000.00. Those were the good old days! But those days are gone forever. The American dream of owning a home has been dead for a long time. Our taxes have taxes on our taxes. America has become England reborn. Worse! What our founding fathers were running from. Taxes are raised for growing government bigger. We the people have to foot the bill for bigger government. I research and read about history. I do not like what I've learned. Nothing I can do about it. We are just small fish in an ocean of sharks. Watch your back and take care.
This wouldn’t have happened if Kaegi didn’t attempt to raise everyone’s property assessed value - commercial and residential. He thought he was doing the right thing and it ended up screwing everyone in the county.
My wife and I saw this coming over 5 years ago. We moved to a small farming community in Iroquois County IL. We pay half the taxes on a much bigger home and property than Homewwod IL.
All of you people in IL need to stop paying crooks, get together unify and don't pay them. Then negotiate a fair property tax deal like a 3% increase with a year over year cap of no more then 5%.
Yup. I researched the decline of Harvey, Gary, and Detroit. Legacy eruption (with a “C”) coupled with extractive property taxes due to same. A negative feed back loop, but its exponential-The fall accelerates ever faster. That’s why Harvey was thriving in ‘70, then its mall used as a punchline in a movie by ‘80.
I have been speaking about this for the last year I have sent emails to the Illinois Governor the Senate and the President this increase in property taxes is ridiculous...And they are doing nothing about it and if they do it's only a couple hundred dollars decrease just to feel like their helping!!!!
Home Ownership is a lie! You rent from the town! They just switched out the word Rent with Property Tax so you would maintain the place! Your taken for fools! Go check out the lease at the town, all the rules and regulations you have to follow. Stop paying them and you'll meet the real owners! They don't need the tax money, they raise the debt limit at will, Greenspan had said the USA can never default on its debt because we can just print. that's telling you, you are getting taxed for nothing but control! Do you know how much property Tax is in all the things you buy like that sandwich from the grocery store? A lot, all goes into cost of production and passed to you! You pay for all Home Depots and Walmart property tax, again it goes into cost of production, you want companies to pay zero tax always!
If Illinois took ALL (100%) of tax revenue and put it toward only the pension obligations it would take about 15 years to pay for them. Illinois is a failed state. It is just hiding that fact very well.
Property taxes = rent the local government charges you for the privilege of being allowed to stay living in the home and land you supposedly "own". It's essentially a modern version of feudal serfdom.
Kaegi declined to state that prior to this, he increased commercial property taxes. Now that commercial property owners (which includes small family businesses) had taxes reduced slightly, he’s blaming Walmart and Home Depot. It’s the Illinois senators and representatives that approve the budgets. Everyone needs to get on the phone with their Illinois senators and representatives and tell them to prepare a bill that reduces the budget in their district. School districts can have resources consolidated and public pensions should have caps on the amount that taxpayers contribute.
Our property value went up but it’s not like we can eat that. It really annoys me when people say oh your house is worth a lot more than you bought it for and I’m like I’m paying higher taxes and I don’t get any benefit out of it until I decide to leave. Dealt with violent crime and get a bill.
property taxes are up all over the states not just Illinois only. inflation high, food cost gone higher now and gas too... millions of people are suffering everywhere.
Nah, Illinois has been losing population for the past decade. The taxes are going to continue raising to make up for that lost tax revenue from people who left.
One thing that I don't see this segment addressing is the fact that in the Chicago suburbs, home values have skyrocketed at an unsustainable rate for the last 4 years. A Home that would have sold for $300k in 2020 will easily fetch $550k now. Nothing significant is going to be done to reduce the tax burden on homeowners until residents start fleeing the state in large numbers. And given the current state of the housing market, that is simply not happening.
What do non-citizens pay? Can you imagine paying these properties taxes, paying taxes on everything except for breathing? I did a land value complaint. My land supposedly went up 900 percent. Did you read that? And my property value went up over 100,000 dollars. How? In this economy, post covid with inflation, how? They need money for pensions, the coming burden on the school system etc. and the middle class is going to pay for it until they crush the middle class into non-existence. Why not use the 100’s of millions they are spending on non-citizens to give the citizens a break? I’m tired of this. Streets suck, schools suck, our politicians… They are working against us and not for us.
They can't really blame large corporations... Walmart drops 1/4 a million is only 250,000 that is 250 residents at $1000 but these residents went from much lower numbers to much more than a $1000 increase. The government seems to be overspending & overcharging.
It's not just IL, also NJ, NY, NH, VT, OH, HI etc etc. Sanctuary Cities/States, rampant Inflation, lots of cost inflating issues pushing up taxes. They're going to go after it someplace.
Politicians from only one party have been "managing" tax income for decades. Will those angry homeowners continue to vote for the politicians that provide housing for "migrants' while homeowners risk being made homeless by the same politicians?
What about all the lawsuits against the Cook's cities like fatal Dolton police chase- 33 million dollar lawsuit! Sexual harassment lawsuit against fire department in Cook county and many more million dollar lawsuits tax payers have to pay out!
