10’s of millions?? More like hundreds of millions. They already spent over 300 million here in Illinois. It’s absolutely ridiculous. The housing is in luxury hotels here in Chicago. Not bad for people who never paid a dime in taxes here. Our politicians that I certainly never voted for are out of control.
The issue is that either the renter or the owner must in some way pay insurance and property taxes if they want a "permanent roof" with utilities like electricity, gas and water. Because of this, many people-at least in Chicago, where I currently reside-are living in tents. No taxes, rent, mortgages, or insurance. The number of people who tell me they live in their car that I meet amazes me. Its crazy out here!
It’s getting wild by the day. The prices of homes are quite ridiculous and Mortgage prices has been skyrocketing on a roll(currently over 7%). Sometimes i wonder if to just invest my spare cash into the stock market and wait for a housing crash or just go ahead to buy a home anyways.
I get such worries too. I'm 60 and retiring early. Already worried of the future and where its headed, especially in terms of finances and how to get by. I'm also considering making my first investment in the stock market, but how can I do so given that the market has been in a mess for the majority of the year?
In my opinion, it was much easier investing back in the 80s but it’s a lot trickier now, those making consistent profit in these times are professionals reason I’ve been using an advisor for the past 3 years to consistently build my portfolio in preparations for retirement.

I've heard over and over that 25% of our state budget goes to public salaries and benefits. They're handing out millions to non-citizen "asylum seekers," and they don't even seem like they want to account for that spending. The Mayor is spending $28,000 on haircuts. If they need money they should lay off public employees and reduce public salaries and benefits. We pay enough. It's time for them to give back some of their lavish pay and benefits packages to make ends meet. I've heard that Illinois pension payments even have an automatic annual 3% cost of living increase built in.

All true the average pension for a city or state worker after 20 years is about 90k a year till they die and they pay zero into it.
It's disgusting. Why do there have to be pensions anyway? Why not let the employees keep their contributions to to their pensions (some plans have them contribute) and let them keep and invest or save their money somewhere else for retirement? Ridiculous.

Its project corporate take over. Drive up property taxes to the point many can't afford to pay it. They are either forced to sell or have their homes sold out from underneath them for back taxes. Corporations and Equity firms snatch the properties up, the city gives them property tax free deals for 10, 20,or more years. The corporations and equity firms then either build commercial buildings or update or replace existing homes with rentals. When it comes close to their tax breaks ending, they sell. This is happening all over the country. The state and local governments need to put a limit on how much they collect in property taxes when there are ridiculous housing prices.

The median property tax in Miami Dade County is $2,756, and they have no State tax. Chicago will see taxes triple for the middle class, plus an added near 5% State Income Tax. There is no comparison. Vote Red.

@@timsievers2067 i live in very old 1200 sq ft townhouse in skokie, without any back or front yard land , no garage and no personal parking.. Our townhome is so old that its is not even in any association. My property tax was $8500 last year and this year it probably will be $9000. And that's for a tiny old townhome with no land , not for a free standing house.

He told me it was just so much cheaper and safer for him and his family to file for bankruptcy and just walk away. After a lifetime in Chicago he moved to Kentucky and started his life over again. He had land there and built a new home on it. My jaw just dropped. But he is a much happier person today. Just wow! I moved out some years after that. I will never go back. All of my neighbors and friends and family have all left Chicago. I can't believe it. I have no one there after a lifetime. I will be 66 this month. Will never go back. It's just memories now. Chicago is such a miserable dump now.

Oakland County property taxes are high like Cook County, IL. I literally screamed at Monday’s summer property tax bill. And I stop every Detroiter that’s moving to the southern Oakland County suburbs and truly say stay in the city and deeply look in the good neighborhoods.
