- It's the beginning of April here at the homestead, so it's time to try out some mowers. Unfortunately, it's been raining for about FIVE CONTINUOUS YEARS. Either way, we've gotta mow!
I borrowed a Bad Boy zero turn mower from work, and that means that I've gotta use it or lose it! So, we're gonna mow some mud!
We've got a few challenges set-up for this machine:
The Muddy Hill of Death!
The Deeply Rutted Pasture...uh...test....place!
Mowing a Pile of Sticks!
Mowing a Pile of Wood Chips!
Mowing On a Hillside in the Rain!
The Path Back to the Barn That's Really Hard to Drive Through!
Note: this machine runs 3100 series hydrostatic drives. NOT the 2000's, like i thought. No wonder it machine does so well in the mud!
A GREAT mower test. All of us don't live on a golf course. This is a real country test. Cheers sir.
Glad you enjoyed it
I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.
Good to hear! They seem to be some tough lil buggers!
Thank u for really putting that bad boy to the test, best test on mow I've ever seen. It truly passed the test . Thanks
This is possibly the greatest lawnmower video on RUclips. You should have a billion views.
Great job! You really went well most people’s use-cases.
As another commenter mentioned, many folks don’t live on golf-course or flat little rectangles.
Great job. Thank you.
Thanks for the encouragement!
I love our Bad Boy ZT 60" elite 747cc. Going strong 7yrs mowing 3+ acres no problems
I'm fixing to bring one home for keeps this year. The Elite is an amazing machine
Awesome test. Remind me not to buy a used mower from you 😂😂
You proved your point on a "mower borrowed from work". It IS a great little mower! 😂
I have the Kohler 7000 on my Cub Cadet enduro xt1 and I have 490 plus hours on it. Motor has never failed me, great motor!!!!
I will be buying the elite bad boy 2024 54 deck - can’t wait ! Great Video
Greatest mower test video of all time
You are correct!
Hey bud, my yard is muddy most of the spring. You may want to look into getting some new bearing to repair the spindles, you'll need 6 total. Bought my 2021 maverick (60" kawasaki) new in July of 21. So I've gone through 3 summers... last summer my bearings began seizing up. At full throttle it will stall when I engage the blades. Once warm it'll power through. I'll be ordering new ones today off ebay. The oem ones are only sealed on one side. I found some on ebay, stamped USA, and are double sealed. $11/ea x6. Our part number is 6206.
Nice tip! The bearings on the Elites I've seen lately are sealed on both sides, but a fella can open them up and grease 'em. I haven't done it, but it woulda been smart. It looks like there's also some cast spundle assemblies available, which I'm thinking on
Best review for a mower I’ve ever seen!
You're too kind.
OUTSTANDING review!! wow! you sold me, I was on the fence but watching you take this bad boy through these tests makes me believe it can handle anything I throw at it. PNW weather is not fun but thank you for such a fantastic review.
My first impression. Anxious to learn. I figured I'd try a lap. It was aready wet out. A little swampy. A little more rain. High grass. Last years leaves. And branches. Cut right through it all. In record time.
I think I backed the right horse.
This review looked more like my yard.
I don't call it "the yard." I call it "the Mad Max Hellscape"
Hi. A fun video. When I started watching this video my thoughts were "who would treat their own mower this way". Then ya find out it belongs to a business that's basically promoting the products they sell. So with that in mind(drive it like ya stole it mode) it's fun to watch. And of course I guess it give some insight into the durability and capability of the "BadBoy" machines. Still I don't treat my Toro like that. Thanks for a fun and interesting video 🙂
Great mower. I ended up buying one. It doesn't have an easy life, but it gets fed plenty of good fuel and oil on a regular basis
not exactly the review I was looking for but heck yeah!! I live in the woods to, and I cut crap my mower shouldn't. Very nice point on the handles staying forward because I was trying to figure out a way, I could have my drink if I buy a zero turn LOL
Tell ya what- we don't have golf-course style lawns out here. If a mower can't handle some downed branches and mud, it ain't gonna last.
@@HomesteadBandwagon thats what im talking about
The hydros are 3100 series.
That's a big 10-4!
We have a Maverick 54" 726 Kawasaki. Cuts Great, very impressed with the even cut and the power to the deck. I run it a little over half throttle on front and back lawn. Run the Field at full throttle and it has no problem cutting the weeds-grass going as fast as i can. You will need ear protection running full throttle, but not half throttle. The most important thing to me about a mower is the cut quality and the Bad Boy has passed my cut quality test.
Fantastic machine for sure! Our Badboy rep did recently ask us to tell all customers to never cut at less than full throttle. It can cause damage to your belts, pulleys and spindles.
@@HomesteadBandwagon From what i understand, you never start the blades at medium idle. Start the blades at full throttle then you can turn down the throttle and it wont hurt the deck. But ya, i mowed the field and front yard last night and it was really fun. I keep getting better and better
@@dankruger2890 it might not hurt the deck but fan on top of hydros is not spinning as fast as it should when not at full throttle. If not at full throttle hydros will overheat and reduce the life expectancy
Watching you drive in that wet and mud had me on the edge of my seat. I was sure you were going to get it stuck. The frame has some really handy holes in which you can hook chains to the tractor to pull it out when you drop a wheel in a wet or muddy hole and it won't go any more. DAMHIK. At about 800 lbs, you aren't going to unstuck it by hand.
I was pretty surprised that it did so well in the mud! Figured I'd need to bring the tractor out for a rescue a few times!
I have
Thanks for an honest review I'm fixing to buy either the elite or the maverick this helped s much.
You can't go wrong either way! If you get the Maverick, get the suspension seat!
Better than watching a test on an already pristine yard. Now you can go out and buy one. 😂
I never understood a nice golf course style lawn. There's no challenge to keeping it mowed!
The hydrogear and tire are mounted to a "L" bracket about .250 thick . After warrantee runs out it's wise to weld a support for the bracket if not it is vulnerable to split at the radis and put the hydro gear and tire in a bind causing the hydro to fail....
Good tip! I haven't seen any come through the shop with an issue there, but we'll keep an eye out
Forget the NFL combine. Waaaay more fun to watch mowers compete doing this stuff!
My mower got a 5 game suspension for using prohibited racing fuel
@@HomesteadBandwagon No worries. We pay more for suspension on a mowera
😅
I'm a little anxious, just got through mowing with my dad's Gravely. It feels super fast, but I had to drive so slow just to get it cut the grass. I'm hoping that the tall thin weeds were so lightweight that the blades couldn't cut it and that it would do fine on regular grass. That being said I'm looking at a bad boy Maverick 54". Just curious if I would have similar I never can tell what the RPMs for the actual blades when they're full power.
The Bad Boy mowers have pretty dang high blade RPMs, so they don't leave much behind. But with tall weeds that are kinda whispy, slowing down can certainly help!
How much for the used mower now?😂
Love the tests against the mowers
Great review. I'm looking at buying my first zero turn mower and looking at bad boy but can't choose between the magnum, the avenger or the elite. I feel like the magnum would be the best choice since it's much cheaper
Elite all the way only.one out the three has fully serviceable hydros transmission n has bigger motor than other 2 and qr models now come with 22x10 reaper rear tires were the other 2 have much smaller turf tires n elite only one has solid front castier tires won't go flat or leak or anything lower 2 do not n air in front tires n elite offers an front suspension rubber dampener n the 2 front front casters also pivot up an down with rubber thing n ya the elite is top line residential onky other one above it is the maverick an there maverick HD is first line up in commercial so elite is top line residential with sum commercial features hydros n tires n deck another thing I noticed when buying my 24 zt elite Kohler7000 48in the 2 lower ones have much smaller nit as deep deck yes sure still 7gauge but isn't as deep n ya wouldn't recommend the 2 lower ones avenger an magnum un my my opinion they should discontinue them an only have the elite n maverick for residential n ya do away with them 2 lower cheaper affordable options n mainly cause the reputation n if want this brand should have start at elite an maverick the lower 2 shouldn't even be an option if want summing smaller than elite go to box store lol an Herd alot them have started carrying bad boys but the quality is trash cause have kids an oeolle don't even own tools put em together in back n ya Nutting is installed right buch loose screws bolts an ya always go to ya nearest dealer I'm in small town an was surprised to find my town has local bad boy dealer less 5 mins away
thanks man great test on that Bad Boy
I certainly hope you are the boss, I would have to fie myself. Lol
Great job demonstrating an abusive test of a mower.
man im trying to decide on a mower..half of the people say a good zero turn like this one half say a heavy ass lawn tractor I dont know what to get..ive got loads of slopes in my yard some are probably about 30 degrees..how hard is it to flip this thing. Looks pretty difficult juding by what i saw you do just a hard choice to make when your spending several K on something lol
If your slopes are pretty uniform, a good zero turn can work great. The problem is that they can kinda dig up the ground if you're really fighting to make your turns! Cub Cadet makes a great zero turn with a steering wheel, so that might be something to look at
@@HomesteadBandwagon I couldn’t say about the turns man I just got the house little over an acre of land the slopes I’d say are pretty uniform but like I said it’s sometimes a up to 30degree slope I’d say. None of it is anything I’d be worried about taking a 4wheeler over if that makes sense
Yeah. That's a pretty gnarly slope. A zero turn would probably have a lower center of gravity, so it might be better as long as you're going straight up and down. If you're side hilling, just buy whatever and get a good life insurance policy!
@@HomesteadBandwagon hahaha pretty much the consensus so far
@@HomesteadBandwagon Ended up with one of those cubs. what I dont understand is why the manual says never go up and down. Sideways is way sketchier lol.. damn thing is a tank though it just goes. able to get like 90% of my yard now
Nice mower
My new mower will be a Bad Boy.
I've been pleasantly surprised by the brand as a whole. They make a great machine!
So I bought this mower and the left side will not engage how do I fix that?
Could be a couple things - is the belt still on the spindle on that side? If it is, the tensioner might be too loose.
Hi, how can we contact you for business iqnuiry?
i think it has the hydro 3100 in it for 2022 so its commercial grade
Yessir. 3100 is the correct answer!
awesome
Check this out, my dude: ruclips.net/video/g1FKWww2ieQ/видео.html
What's your thoughts on the Kohler motor?
Kohler tends to make a very reliable engine. Feels like it has more low-end to power though material
Go with the Kawasaki motor…….
and i bet he went back to the dealer and it does not mow grass very well
Take some deep, cleansing breaths. It'll be ok.
You can’t tell it’s not his mower lol brought home from work, who runs over sticks like that lol
I get a pretty good deal on blades😁
i am sorry but that is for lawns not woods if i gave you that test on a lawn and you did this you would pay for the damage
😂
You need a real tractor with a brush hog! Who uses a $6,000.00 zero turn in your type of tests?😢
Not everyone is a Rockefeller!
i bet over a 1000 dollars of damage was done to it
Best Test I've seen since I started researching the Bad Boy Mowers. Your video has convinced me now, I'm sold.
If it performs this well in the rain, dry weather doesn't stand a chance.
A set of chains on the rear tires would help, even in the dry.

Now I have to get to the eye doctor, got some mulch in my eyes. 👀
