Something you can try if your HDMI port is loose it’s normally just the outer casing (the metal part) ..if you have an old hdmi cable squeeze it slightly with a pair of pliers..I find the it does the job of making it connect to the little board inside better ..I’ve done this with consoles and even vape pens and it normally works
If it helps, last year I used compressed air around the ports and vents and it started to shut down randomly that evening and became unusable. I'll never know if it was a coincidence but it was thankfully repaired under warranty. I would simply use caution when using compressed air on the hdmi and power ports.
I would use a vacuum rather than compressed air which will just blow the dust into the system rather than extract it. I recommend removing your face plates from the console and cleaning out the dust at least twice a year just be very gentle with your HDMI port if you have an early model PS5.
@@justinc.242 Yeah, thanks. I have the plates off about once a month and vacuum as you say, use cotton buds to take excess off the fan. It has a lot of use from me and the family :)
Everyone this has happened to me and when I connect any cable it wouldn't work at all. I got worried naturally and thought I had to use my warranty but really if it doesn't work by connecting a different hdmi cable or a different display, or even when safe mode doesn't appear. Don't worry. What tends to happen is that the hdmi port itself is dirty and jamming the systems connection. The fix is to use achohol to clean the inside and blow any dust or debris. In my case the back of the ps5 is hot so the gel that holds the hdmi receptor in place kinda gooed down and made little gel balls in my port.
My biggest concern is "What the hell are people doing with thier hardware?". As a console gamer from the good old days (Snes/Genesis), I have never ever had a faulty connector. In recent days that means hdmi/usb. None what so ever. Are people lugging their stuff around to "lan partys" like in in 90-00s? Plugging, unplugging like maniacs? Just don´t get it.
They are most likely plugging and unplugging the HDMI cable when the ps5 is plugged in. Always unplug consoles before swapping HDMIs out, if not the surge of electricity can fry the HDMI ports.
My PS4 Pro and TV supported HDR, I had the PSVR aversion 1 which didn’t support HDR. So I had to constantly unplug and replug the hdmi cable. Over time this caused a few pins on my PS4 Pro to break off, needing a new HDMI port.
Lots of kids especially younger than teens and multi-sibling households will move consoles between rooms depending on who's turn it is with the PS4/PS5/Xbox/etc. Do this four to seven times a week and multiply by months and years and you get a very worn out HDMI connector which isn't the most durable connection standard in the first place.
@@deagle7776 if you move your device often and plug it in and unplug it, it is far more likely to get these issues. Sometimes the plugs are not well soldered on from factory and could fail after just some plug ins, but this should be almost neglegible. But for a device, which costs so much it should not be an issue. In the newest version sony even put mor stabilisation on that particular port to make this issue even more less likely but people sometimes do weird things with their property ...
It's becoming a lot more common for consoles to break when they release. We got a PS5 and one month later won't output video. Quality has gone down hill on consoles.
The one thing I never liked about the HDMI ports is they loosen up overtime and eventually stop working because they get so loose that it doesn’t connect anymore or loses connection because the little prongs inside Get pushed down when they make those they should’ve put a lock thing on those where it walks the HDMI port in place to prevent moving so it stays connected
I try to be very delicate and move as little as possible my ps5 because y noticed that the hdmi cable wiggles when it is connected. Honestly I’m really scared of it breaking because in my country there are no official Sony repair shops
Literally the best video of this type. No wasted time on an annoying intro and unnecessary words. When someone is looking for this type of info it's because they've tried 5 things with no luck, so the last thing they want is an annoying intro lol. And this is the ONLY video that didn't assume the PS5 would go into safe mode. I can see why this video has 841k views. Great job John! Unfortunately, it looks like I have to send in my son's PS5 which we just bought four months ago for xmas.
This happened to me and luckily I didn’t send it to Sony because it would’ve taken weeks and they will most likely switch it with another ps5 that might have an issue. I got my hdmi port repaired at a local spot that are also contractors for other electronic repair companies. The guy showed me these tiny metal pieces on the hdmi port that gives the signal and said Sony really messed up the placement for it. On the ps4 hdmi port the tiny metal pieces are further in the back of the port, on ps5 the metal pieces are in the front and can be easily damaged from constant removal of the hdmi cable. The guy fixed it for me in less than 40 min vs weeks at Sony or other repair shops.
@@nickarganbright7218 This was last year so the parts are cheaper now and since I skipped the actual businesses and went straight to someone that are contractors for those businesses it cost me $180 but hey it beats giving my ps5 to Sony or an electronic repair shop that would make me wait weeks just to fix something that only takes 40min to do!
Yea I feel like weeks out for repair wouldn't be a good option for me, or anyone for that matter, I was just curious because I finally got one the other night, fresh from Sony, so hopefully I won't have to worry about this anytime soon, but it's good know what my options are if it does happen, yea that's kinda a lot, but I think I would go that option myself vs sending it in and wondering when you will get it back.
Thank you sooo much for telling me I’m never going to remove the hdmi cable from my ps5 now unless I absolutely have to to change the cable or something 😂
Dude this just happened to me. Long story short my power went out in my apartment. I tried everything to get the hdmi output to work but nothing. Any idea what causes this issue? Power still turns on which is the weird thing
I like to clean my ps5 every now and then because of the dust it collects, I might just consider not disconnecting the hdmi on the ps5 port anymore but rather on the tv port to prevent anything like this.
This is why I got a little HDMI extender male to female adaptor, that way the female part that’s getting wasted is the Adaptor’s port and not my PS5’s port. I also had this on my PS4, I just really like being cautious.
@@GamePlaythrough2 I’m actually not sure, I don’t think so tho since my monitor is only a 1080p and handles 165Hz. For ps5 max frames are 120 as we know, and my games that handle 120 fps run perfectly fine. Also the Extender is only like 3-4 in. so I don’t think it causes a interruption or anything of that style.
I am constantly worried about overheating with these new consoles. Even with the 4, I put a small fan in front to encourage air flow. These consoles have a max temperature of 91F.
Yea weird I notice when playing and inserting ps5 discs the console gets very hot when playing not loud and when ejecting the disc it’s very warm but not ps4 discs weird it’s been doing it since I got it a year half ago I did hear people saying the disc melted in their ps5 tho😳
Actually, a soldering iron is more difficult to remove & install a hdmi port. It's a thousand times easier removing it with a heat gun, obviously not the type that strips paint off wood...
I tried switching to high speed HDMI that is 8K capable and it worked out for me. But my issue was mainly the output kept switching on and off especially when there is high action involved on the screen. So I guess the one came with the console couldn't handle it for some reason.

What are you doing to make that happen? lol You should rarely remove the cable, if ever, depending on your setup. If your port is getting dirty, that is definitely a YOU problem.
For 4 yrs, i used a portable screen setup for my PS4 Pro. I probably plugged and unplugged the hdmi cable over 200 times moving my setup around and never had a connection problem. It still works to this day even. If the ports are failing on the PS5, its not a user error problem. Its definitely a hardware problem.

Remember this happened to my ps4 within a month of having it. My Cousin thought it’d be a good idea of pranking me by unplugging the hdmi….. turns out her bent some prongs in the process
That's virtually impossible, the main culprit in your case is you're not supposed to remove the hdmi while the console is on. It's recommended to avoid doing this. If the console was off, I still can't see it bending pins just by pulling it out. It would make more sense if it happened whilst plugging it in.
This happened to my launch day PS4 that I preordered and got in line at EB Games to pick up. It didn’t even work for 5 mins and since the launch model was in such limited supply I called all around the city to find a replacement. One store fairly close had one the customer never picked up and they held the store open for me to make the exchange.
On my PS5 which I literally just bought 3 weeks ago the USB port in the front not the cport the regular USB, doesn't work properly if you wiggle the cable it disconnects. I have a similar problem, well not what is shown in the video, but my TV goes off randomly and when I turn it off and on again, it goes again, so the TV is not off and that's the curious, that was also with my previous console, so I think it's my TV, but have no idea what it could be.Another thing to note would be that it is game-related, so for exampe in minecraft it crashes much more often than in other games, in shooters or racing games it never turns off, in story games it does turn off. Please note that i am not a american ,im from the schnitzelcountry called germany

Holy S*** it workt ! Thank you Dude
Tried this bc it’s makes complete sense and it worked bro 🙏🙏 I could cry lmao
Well that worked. Seems like a temporary fix

From what I have read the majority of people who have their system shut down have kept it in a vertical position.
@@justinc.242 Yeah, thanks. I have the plates off about once a month and vacuum as you say, use cotton buds to take excess off the fan. It has a lot of use from me and the family :)

You shouldn’t be using compressed air at all in your console it’s actually bad
Everyone this has happened to me and when I connect any cable it wouldn't work at all. I got worried naturally and thought I had to use my warranty but really if it doesn't work by connecting a different hdmi cable or a different display, or even when safe mode doesn't appear. Don't worry. What tends to happen is that the hdmi port itself is dirty and jamming the systems connection. The fix is to use achohol to clean the inside and blow any dust or debris. In my case the back of the ps5 is hot so the gel that holds the hdmi receptor in place kinda gooed down and made little gel balls in my port.
Did you have no signal on display? Or just black screen like connection exists but nothing is displayed
Sometimes the cable makes downward/upward pressure on the port, making it go bad. I heard it happens on PS4 (however never happens to mine).
Well, i have a tv with 2 HDMI ports while i have 4 devices
Lots of kids especially younger than teens and multi-sibling households will move consoles between rooms depending on who's turn it is with the PS4/PS5/Xbox/etc. Do this four to seven times a week and multiply by months and years and you get a very worn out HDMI connector which isn't the most durable connection standard in the first place.
Most common problem with outputproblems is plugging them in and out often, right?
Yes and putting strain on the cable pushed up against something.
Things IT people don't want you to know.
Do u mean most common causes?
@@deagle7776 yes
@@deagle7776 if you move your device often and plug it in and unplug it, it is far more likely to get these issues. Sometimes the plugs are not well soldered on from factory and could fail after just some plug ins, but this should be almost neglegible. But for a device, which costs so much it should not be an issue. In the newest version sony even put mor stabilisation on that particular port to make this issue even more less likely but people sometimes do weird things with their property ...
It's becoming a lot more common for consoles to break when they release. We got a PS5 and one month later won't output video. Quality has gone down hill on consoles.
Mine turns my tv on when I turn the ps on and it says ps connected but nothing shows up
The one thing I never liked about the HDMI ports is they loosen up overtime and eventually stop working because they get so loose that it doesn’t connect anymore or loses connection because the little prongs inside Get pushed down when they make those they should’ve put a lock thing on those where it walks the HDMI port in place to prevent moving so it stays connected
I think this is my issue
@@ejbrown6786what you do to fix it
I try to be very delicate and move as little as possible my ps5 because y noticed that the hdmi cable wiggles when it is connected. Honestly I’m really scared of it breaking because in my country there are no official Sony repair shops
I can’t explain enough, just how much you’re appreciated! Thank you
Sometimes my tv/monitor goes blank when I touch the connected hdmi cable… these ps5 hdmi ports are weak af…
Is my PS five supposed to be beeping two times right when I click it like right when I click it it beeps two times really fast
Just curious, what did they charge?
Thank you.
I bought a new HDMi 2.1 cable. It looked better, but still glitched a little.
Reseting settings worked for me.
Thanks again.
I do the same
Will it not affect the 2.1 features of the hdmi?
@@GamePlaythrough2 I’m actually not sure, I don’t think so tho since my monitor is only a 1080p and handles 165Hz. For ps5 max frames are 120 as we know, and my games that handle 120 fps run perfectly fine. Also the Extender is only like 3-4 in. so I don’t think it causes a interruption or anything of that style.
2:03 the heck???
Extended my warranty for another 2 years exactly for reasons like this.
My console is standing here, plugged into the TV, without being moved or constantly being plugged in or out. I hope that helps too.
I am constantly worried about overheating with these new consoles. Even with the 4, I put a small fan in front to encourage air flow. These consoles have a max temperature of 91F.
Any pc/console turns off if it gets to hot.
Yea weird I notice when playing and inserting ps5 discs the console gets very hot when playing not loud and when ejecting the disc it’s very warm but not ps4 discs weird it’s been doing it since I got it a year half ago I did hear people saying the disc melted in their ps5 tho😳
The max Temp is 91 Celsius
Why are there some schtatches on that plastic around the hdmi? My ps5 have the same
This is why I can do soldering myself. Got all the tools and also can do it myself.
No one asked
Actually, a soldering iron is more difficult to remove & install a hdmi port.
It's a thousand times easier removing it with a heat gun, obviously not the type that strips paint off wood...
My ps5 is brand new and I am having problems like my hdmi connection fully turning off and then 10 seconds later turning on. I have tried everything
I tried switching to high speed HDMI that is 8K capable and it worked out for me.
But my issue was mainly the output kept switching on and off especially when there is high action involved on the screen. So I guess the one came with the console couldn't handle it for some reason.
Hmm seems weird
Do you mean that your screen turned off for a second or two then back on?
Anyone else laughed at his last name i cant get passed it lol
UPDATE: YOU CANT SEND YOUR PS5 IN FOR REPAIR EVEN IF YOU WANT! Playstation is not approving any warranty requests at all right now and any attempts to RMA it will result in no email being sent to you.
If it happens I'll just take it back to the store where i bought it. They must accept it if it's faulty.
@@SenorNavel That’s if you’re in the refund period.
@@Puggy42069 Consumer Law in my country over-rules Sony's warranty. We can get a 2 year warranty at no cost, maybe 3, if the ps5 breaks due to a fault not caused by the user.
You can invest in an excellent mounting wall bracket and mount the PS5 along the side of your TV or below where the HDMI cable is not stretched. This issue will happen when you continue to stretch or pull the cable in time, so keeping your PS5 in a stable position is Key.
What happens if your ps5 delete your game account
How do you send in the PS5 to Sony for replacement
Me and my brother JUST bought a ps5 brand new from Walmart, so I know it’s one of the newer generation ones ( or however you out it ) so does anyone know if the newer models of the ps5 are better quality for that? Like do I have to worry as much? I’m extremely careful with my things and have everything in a careful spot and such, but I’m still worried.
What’s the model number?
@@kingtryton Away from home on a trip right now so can’t check, but I know for a fact it’s a newer model, I’m pretty sure it’s the newest model available, and I only got it last week, when my local Walmart finally got a new shipment in after like months.
My ps5 since 2020 works perfect. No problems
@@nickkerr6068 Ok good thank you, imma assume it’s mostly user error then, like I said I’m very careful, I was just worried if I didn’t even touch it, that it still breaks or something ( which of course could technically happen ) but just didn’t know if older models suffered more.
@@braincube013 PlayStation 5 CFI-1200 Model is the new one with a better HDMI port. I have the original model and I never touched the HDMI port so I didn't have a problem so far.

It's incredible that Sony didnt include a secondary port like DisplayPort or Optical, I want to use the PS5 in two diferent TVs and I don't want to disconnect every time the HDMI, It Will be broken 😭
simple, keep the hdmi connected to your ps5 and just remove it from the tv. when you move it from TV to TV.
@@mrbubblebuns3994 I can't do that, The two TVs (monitor and LED TV), are in different rooms thru a wall is passing the HDMI cable, one in my bedroom, one in my living room.

Thankfully my PS5 has behaved but it has given me some real scares. I am pretty sure that the system is not all that robust when it comes to connecting with different displays. I have never had any display issues until with my PS5.
Same here first time plugging into a tcl tv I got a snowy screen WTH thought it had something to do with hdcp setting now idk what it is unplugged hdmi from tv and plug back in fixes it
a while ago, my PS5 wouldn't give me any screen, i changed the hdmi cable, and it worked again, the hdmi cable that i used before that came with the box, seems to be broken then
Any idea why it feels like I’m getting major frame drops in specific moments in games like last of us and nba 2k, where as when I watch others or ask others they don’t seem to have that issue?
Same. I turned if “picture clarity mode” in my TV settings and the fps drops stopped.
Sometimes clearing cache or rebuilding database helps with performance issues
I feel you missed a lot of information on what the console will be doing. What should you expect from the lights? How long will it take to hear beeps? How long after holding the button will it shut back off?
What are you doing to make that happen? lol You should rarely remove the cable, if ever, depending on your setup. If your port is getting dirty, that is definitely a YOU problem.
For 4 yrs, i used a portable screen setup for my PS4 Pro. I probably plugged and unplugged the hdmi cable over 200 times moving my setup around and never had a connection problem. It still works to this day even. If the ports are failing on the PS5, its not a user error problem. Its definitely a hardware problem.
hey, I've lost the paper you use to wrap (1:13) the ps5 and i wanted to know what kind of paper it is... I use it to protect my ps5 in my bag when i move with it
Remember this happened to my ps4 within a month of having it.

On my PS5 which I literally just bought 3 weeks ago the USB port in the front not the cport the regular USB, doesn't work properly if you wiggle the cable it disconnects. It's not the cable I tried brand new cables. Is this a common issue? I really hate the idea of sending my PS5 into have a USB port replaced.

I dont get it.. Why u should have a problem with the HDMI port??
U plug it into your console, into the TV port and there it stays!!!!!
If ppl usually plug in and out of course that will loose over time and there is the issuses...
I love your videos btw brother... Keep them comin'...
I think it helps.. It helped me with buying the PS5 A1 right controller, not the ones that in time R2 is getting loose...
Agreed.
I have this issue where no matter what input audio device I use, the audio will peak and become static like at certain frequencies. Never happened on the PS4. It started happening about 3 months ago. Audio used to be fine on the PS5. Tired of my videos having audio of myself peaking but I've tried multiple different mics.
For me, if you hold the hdmi cord down once it's in the ps5, the hdmi will work but as soon as you let go, it will disconnect. I wedged my daughters toy car between the ethernet cable and the hdmi cord and now it works fine 😂😂😂
I need help I have gotten 4 controllers over the past half a year I use a controller for about 2 months and then my controller will just stop working I’ll restart it and do everything it will reconnect and then my headset will work but my mic won’t and my controller only stays connected when it’s plugged in
Mine blacks out intermittently. Tried new cable, but it still happens. If I barely move console or wiggle cord, it blacks out like it’s losing contact. Console is only 3 months old. Guess I need to be contacting Sony, because I sure don’t want it to go out completely over time.
Might wanna mention the HDMI handshake between the console and the TV can also make it appear this is the case. My cousin just had this issue and after unplugging both tv and ps5 he was able to get the output to show again. Just wanted to make people aware just because you dont see anything for Safe Mode doesn't mean its 100% broken, might be the HDMI handshake.
This worked for me. Thank you so much.
How the hell dose that even happen like how unless people are constantly unhooking it and hooking it back up more times than you should i have a 10 year old ps4 with a like new hdmi port that’s because when i plug it in some where i leave it there same goes with the 5 i setup it up and not screw with it
I haven't even bought a ps5 yet and I'm already worrying over what could happen
Hey John so my TV Hisense QLED losing signal for a few seconds while playing games. I also noticed it does it when closing certain games as well. I’m using the HDMI cable that came with the PS5. Both TV and PS5 is 2 months old

Absolutely try replacing the cable. I had used a cheap af $5 cable for a while before one day it just started flickering for no reason.
This can happen if you wiggle the HDMI when you put it in braking the solder that hold the HDMI connector.

Mine goes back and forth from saying the instant game response has launched to hdr. It just does that back and forth with no PS home/menu popping up.
My ps5 just goes black mainly when interacting with the homescreen
That's why I use a Comsol 4K60 splitter, so I can Switch between my monitor & TV or just have them both on duplicating the same screen. Saves wearing out the HDMI port.
