- Run Windows Programs on Linux with Bottles. I'll be using Ubuntu 22.04 LTS to show you how to install Bottles. Run Windows Apps on Linux based systems, and most Linux Distros. Bottle uses Wine a translation layer (POSIX) to natively run windows APPS on Linux.

Bro, let me me be the one to tell you but I have literally gone through 7-10 videos on how to properly install Bottles on Linux and you are by far, the most concise, straight to the point and not filled with useless fluff that takes up 10 minutes of a video's runtime. I've been on Linux for almost 20 years and I freakin' hate 95% of the Linux tutorials on RUclips. Good job on this man.
Glad you liked it :)
Not sure what you're on about this is just a rubber stamp copy of the other videos. Covering the exact same examples, and not telling you anything that the others don't already cover. None of the videos I have seen so far cover a real installation of a Windows app to get you up and running.
You can also run the exe by left-clicking on the executable and selecting the option to "open with..." in nautilus or dolphin and select bottles, it will ask in which bottle you want to run this executable and just select and be happy.
Thanks for sharing
@@SavvyNikdo me a favor I don't have a PC. So do a video installing mt5 on bottles and input indicatiors in the mt5. There is no videos on that at all on RUclips
Thanks
Please what do I do if the repo isn't downloading @@SavvyNik
It's great, man! A great, helpful software support and a detailed video tutorial. I like it so much 👍👍👍
Glad you’re enjoying it
Thank you so much for this tutorial!
Amazing !
Thanks for sharing.
No problem, glad you enjoyed it
I don't see any of my regular chromebook folders inside of bottles? Example I download an exe file to my chromebook but when I click add shortcut on bottles to find that file, none of my files or download folders are connected to bottles for me to run that exe. Any suggestions?
So say that you are using a graphic intensive program will it work nicely with your graphics card or no?
I'm using MX Linux. Will that affect the installation of flatpak?
I wonder how this works with using multiple instances of Metatrader 5.
Had some problems with wine, where I first put the copy in the same prefix & after running them a couple times I lost some settings.
Later copied the whole prefix to be safe.
After that I tried to create a .desktop for each instance but finally gave up after many hours. I gues it works with wine, just not easy to create shortcuts.
I tried to install Windows Total Commander a few times but didn't succeed. Could you tell me if it can be done?
Hi! I tried to run mt4 in bottles but got no internet connection, do you know how to fix that issue
Can i run usb wifi adapter through bottles?
I have MS Office 365. Excel is the only app I really need in Windows.
Can I install it with Bottles? Rather than dual boot or VM Box.
Any suggestions is appreciated.
Magnificent! I used Wine some tome but it seems Bottles is more easy to use. What about resources needs? mainly memory
memory, processing, storage - the usual nothing special here
I tried installing ChordPulse, a mini Band in the Box program, but couldn’t get any sound out of it, which wasn’t useful as I wanted to create backing tracks. Does anyone have an idea how to sort this out?
Where can i add support config file?
Can i run aftereffects?
Bottles have been part of Codeweaver's Crossover for a long time.
does it works with adobe creative cloud?
Say if I wanted to install a games launcher like Epic Games Store, would that be installed as an application or a game? Anything installed subsequently by Epic Games Launcher afterwards would be a game, would there be a conflict there?
Epic Games store works fine with Lutris. I have not used it with bottles, so I can't confirm but Lutris will get your job done. Search on RUclips about how to do it. It is simple
I wanted to use it for H&R Block software, but it won't communicate the Activation code. Any way to do this?
i like to know if it can run Fort Zombie because if that work it would push me to linux
great tutorial
Thanks
I have a 4k screen and the windows apps look tiny on it, is there a setting where I can scale them to 200%?
In settings / displays. There is also the fractional scaling with 25% increments.
Thanks
What´s happens when in installation requires net framework version 4.8?

Can the win software communicate with USB ? Detect usb memory stick or some other peripherals?
if you're like me and trying to install rgb software like icue or razers stuff, get openrgb. it will detect any device connected
Reading through some comments.
I dont understand why so many questions are ignored.
If you don't know the answer, don't let that intimidate you..
Allow yourself the freedom to simply state you don't know the answer, rather than answering certain questions and ignoring others..
Just something to consider..
Because he don’t have time to respond to all of them

What assurances do I have that the package maintainers for bottles is in stealing my personal data?
All FOSS is maintained and reviewed by the community, that's how you are assured. Is it possible for a maintainer to steal your data? Sure, as soon as any other member notices the soft is... Well... Maintained. That's in general terms how GNU /FOSS works, if you don't trust the community you might as well not use it. That's all.
Bro with bottle can we able to use all types of Windows application like everything Windows related???
Please reply looking forward for your words...
He won’t lol
Maybe it's that I have grown familiar with the terminal, but using wine directly is waaay easier in my opinion. It's just a bit of a hassle to get desktop shortcuts for apps at first but not too bad once you get it.
steam/Lutris is easier then terminal, and i use terminal for all but web and games.
Using bottles is great for the separation. Handle different wine configs, and containerize them.
A little help plz. My downloads are not showing up in the "add shortcut" section.
O bootle seria um concorrente do playoflinux?
More of a competitor to wine but really an interface that makes it easier to use wine
@@SavvyNik Thanks
my brain be like where is notepadqq
Getting error config file missing error
will games for windows vista work well under bottles?
will my CAD program* work this way? tanx!! *ActCAD, a VERY-affordable pro CAD-program (your welcome :-))) I'm soooo-tired of MS making a "disappearing" OS (W10)!
Can you use bottles to install the adobe creative cloud?
No
Sorry to say it but your video demonstrates why so many are put off Linux.
If one is used to the Windows environment it’s no use saying how Linux is so customisable etc etc: it really IS like going back to DOS commands some of the time. There’s so much “help” online but every advice is different and confusing, and often relates to a different distro to the one I am trying.
You know what a video like this broadcasts, right? That wanting to run Windows apps on Linux is all the evidence anyone would ever need to see to think that FOSS never really delivered despite all the hype. And one has to ask just how accurate that thought might actually be.
And who's fault is that?
I think the problem is not foss, but foss devs focusing on the wrong things.
Take office as an example: sometimes i just need a quick spreadsheet to do some random calculations. On windows, i can run excel 2010 (pretty old version, but it has all the features i need), and it only consumes around 5mb of my machine's RAM. It feels like i'm quickily grabbing a "piece of paper" to start getting work done.
What are foss alternatives to that? There are only full-blown office suites that won't start a single spreadsheet software, but the whole suite!! Consuming almost 300mb of RAM without necessity.
I know that shouldn't be a problem for today's hardware, but when you have many programs running, it makes a huge difference!
If a NATIVE spreadsheet software is going to consume THAT amount of resources, i rather use a web-based solution like google sheets.
And that's just one example of foss software going in the wrong direction because of development choices.
yay -S bottles
Arch btw
I don't use Arch btw, but I thought Paru had 'replaced' Yay.
Thanks for the video. How about showing how it works with some heavy duty software like Qubase, Magix vegas, Premiere, After effects and other multimedia software?
Doesnt

What do you mean?
How about game apps from GOG platform on Linux ?
You should be able to install it directly from Bottles as one of the community maintained apps:
usebottles.com/gaming/
@@SavvyNik
I hope that's true.
Got so many games from GOG platform since they DRM free.
@@SkyFly19853 Heroic Launcher and Lutris can also help you install GOG games
Will bottles run EVERY windows app? like FL Studio and VSTs? also will it run windows based games too? I'm tired of Windows and its consistent hanging (freezing) GOt a 5800X3D Aorus x570 ultra MB RX 6800 GPU also in Linux how to set the screens refresh to the max of the monitors refresh rate?
*UPDATE* Loving linux haha runnung it natively on my machine
I experienced hanging and freezing. It turned out that I was using a single power cable with a splitter to power both connectors on my graphics card. On the face of it, it should be the obvious thing to do, but no. So I tried using separate power cables, 1 per power port, and hey presto. No more hanging or freezing. I also left Windows in test mode (not safe mode) and disabled Windows driver verification, as Windows doesn't always like NVIDIA drivers.
@@jezz2k My corsair TX850M PSU doesn't have support for double sided 8-pin connecters...only has 8pin to 6+2 splitter
@@RAM_845 My graphics card has a 6 and a 2, but I'm using a separate power cable for the 2 pin connection. I was originally using a joiner cable that combined 2 x 6 pins into an 8 pin. Weird thing is, this worked fine for 5 years. It was possibly a driver update in combination with that incorrect way of powering my GPU which caused my problems.
What about autocad
Hello! Both Bottles and Wine generally work in small, self-contained programs; larger programs, like Autocad, that require multiple dependencies, do not work with these solutions. I suggest Autocad clone programs, such as Bricscad or Ares Commander, which have a Linux version, or Draftsight 2019 (free), which still works through a workaround.
I love you
?? Seems like extra work to do something that can be done directly thru WINE. ????
Sort of.. depends if you want to containerize your apps or not
I thought apps were the things you get from Microsoft store, not exe programs
It looks like this information is already outdated and doesn't work. But then, I am only now getting back into Linux so it could be me. Naa, that is inconceivable. lol
why install flatpak or snapd. Ubhntu have apt !
Sadly it’s only available as a flatpak
@@SavvyNik then it's garbage and should be avoided.
@@1pcfred Why's that? I know nothing - educate me. I wanna do this stuff - but not if it sucks.
@@zanderman004 a flatpak is more limiting than having the full source code available. With source you can tailor the binary to your system. You build it against your system libraries and for your hardware. It's like home cooking if you're a good chef. It's just going to come out better. Flatpak is designed to favor the distributor, not the user. You're the user. It's like fast food. Not the best for you. But if that's the only way you can get some software then there's nothing you can do about it. Sometimes you have to take whatever you can get.
@@1pcfred Mm - lots to learn. Thanks for your reply, man - 'preciate it.
Hmmm… not working for me.
How ... Why does the like button shine when you told us to hit it?
Magic
flatpak is so slow in linux
A game is a game and an application is an application. Is this concept so difficult to grasp?
Games are applications too. Both games and applications are programs in fact.
I love Linux but to much of hassle to run Windows apps. I'll just use windows instead.
Fair enough
A good number of games won't run anyway. Its very hit and miss. Some older 32 bit games use 16 bit installers. So unless you have access to a 32 bit Windows computer, which is backwards compatible with 16 bit, and are then able to back up the folder where the game was installed and copy it across to your Linux computer, you won't have any luck. I was able to get an archived backup of Pac-Man 256 to run in Wine without any issues whatsoever (yes, I know its not a 16 bit game). But a game from 14 years ago, BlasterMan vs YellowSkull, runs so slowly its unplayable.
you go thru this WAY TOO FAST
Use the slow down feature ;)
All of this seems like an bad idea to me. Installing anything outside of your home directory that did not come from your distro's repo is careless. Maybe that's how things are done in Windows but that's poor form administering Linux. But taint your system and see what I care.
Lets play a game...
Take a puff everytime he says "bottles'
this program is sooo slow. Lutris is simply better
