If your material is created and includes a different node other than the slab you see here, the solution is to delete the node and add the node "Substrate Slab BSDF - Simple"
This wasn't the first time I found your video to be the most useful in a subject; so huge well done, and thanks for this tutorial! (Obviously subscribed)
Colour tint works well but what about lumen reflections? I get no reflections at all with your set up. I had to change the Lighting Mode to "Surface TranslucencyVolume" for reflections to appear.
It's really cool, I wanted to use this as the material for a window, but it's mirroring everything next to it but weird. It's not even like a mirror that shows what's in front.
Doesn't work for me in 5.3.1 =( When I create a material, I get a simpler node without SSS and many other options. However I can add the Substrate Slab BSDF node, it doesn't work correctly... I only get weird refraction and no translucency.
very good video, a question where I can get that 3D model to test my materials, I can't find it inside the engine, in these latest versions of the engine it seems that it no longer comes
This is great! I've been wanting to get into substrate but haven't seen a lot of tutorials to build them. Thank you. Would love to see more specific ones.
I’m trying to make a thin 10 micron glass beads thin layer material with index of refraction of 2.1 that has a retro -reflective effect. Is this possible?
Just FYI for UE 5.4, in project settings, the substrate options wont appear if you type "strata" in search anymore. You'll need to type "substrate" to find these option tickboxes.
how do you figure this stuff out on your own? Do you just plug in nodes and experiment? I'm wondering if I'll ever get to a point where I can think up things like this without having to rely on tutorials...
Fantastic video, helped me in a pinch. Although I would say the footage of yourself in the top right-hand corner sometimes obstructs what you're doing on screen.
Great Video, but why is it that when I place two objects in the scene and place this material on both and turn the roughness up the other object comes through the glass material without that frosted effect? Is that some kind of bug or something? Everything looks great until you see the other Strata Glass object through another Strata Glass object.
this seems really really good!! I was trying this but instead of getting that "substrate slab bsdf" when i create a new material, i get a "substrate ue4 default shading"... why is that? my unreal software is updated to latest version. Could it be from my hardware? (I have a 1080ti gpu updated to latest game drivers)
i just ran into a issue when chaning back from substrate back to my surface mode in my material edite everything turned balck after i restarted basically i wanted to revolt back to the regular way of creating material in my project but havent found a way to get all my material back
Ralf, The reflection depends on the roughness. The greater the roughness, the rays are reflected at different wave frequencies, resulting in a less sharp reflection. However, light does continue to reflect. An example of this is the frosted crystals on certain doors and windows. Although specular reflection and roughness work together, they are two very different things.
It`s very strange, but roughless is doesen`t work. I can`t understand why: set material type, add IOR, add colors, add MFP with it color- everything is ok, jusl like in tutorial. But roughless... It looks like it stay in 0 and doesent changes. Can someone help?
If diffuse Color is set to 0, TransmittanceColor (GlassColor) cannot be assigned a color. But if the diffuse Color is 1, the color of TransmittanceColor (GlassColor) is a complementary color。
when i tun on substrate option from project settings after restart ue i'm not getting this purple tab "substrate slab bsdf" instead it shows substrate ue4 default shading, please help
This is great thanks. Nice and simple. Adding to this it, would be great to see some shapes on the glass via displacement (or whatever is the best practice in achieving that look.)
Nice job. A half translucent curtain material tutorial would be nice. it was impossible to make it with previous version of material settings. (Using lumen)
Fluted glass please! Yeah man more materials please! Cool to explore what’s possible. Doesn’t have to be out there examples, just better versions of common materials b
Just subscribed. Thank you so much. Are you also able to make a tutorial for Smoke Character. I mean that dark smoke is around a NPC (you cannot see the whole body). It looks like a shadow person?
basically it gave me a warning when i activated substrate saying that i wont be able to get my old material back when its ticked back off and thats what i did somebody help...lol
Man you should close your discord server no use all inactive members and no response or any help from it. Whereas, your videos are fabulous and easy to understand. Thanks man.
Awesome as always!
Heyy, thanks 😊 Appreciate the feedback!
Damn Substrate materials look so much better! Going to convert all my projects materials :)
Thanks! Appreciate the support!
Hey pinkpocket how do i get class caustics in unreal engine 5.3 with substrate please make a tutorial on that please...
Is there a way to have a clear decal on top of the glass? Because when I try do insert a decal, it always goes under it.
As always straight to the point
Thanks for watching! Appreciate the support.

Hey, appreciate the kind words. 🙏
Thanks! Its about time Unreal reworked its material system, especially when it comes to glass materials.
Yup!

Can you make a video comparing the same materials in legacy and in substrate system?

Greath video ! So, can we added some reflections on it ?
where are your secularity and reflection flags for glass?
The lesson is super. Thanks
how to get rid of non-blurred (hard) edges of an object behind a frosted glass
After enabling STRATA options my project crushes on every launch. It would be nice to suggest to create back up in case like this.
It seems to be the same with mine, did you find a way to fix this ?
Same here.. Please help. How to fix the project?

Same
same
But. Do multiple glass materials render in the right order? The translucency rendering ordering if terrible by default.
I appreciate the video, but I'm NOT getting the same result. I'm not seeing any specular on the material at all. Is there another setting?
very good video, a question where I can get that 3D model to test my materials, I can't find it inside the engine, in these latest versions of the engine it seems that it no longer comes

Hi!! First of all thank you and im new in Unreal, how can i get that material ball, the one where you put the glass material??
Awesome tutorial!!! Thanks a lot!!

what is the parameter that you adjust to make it blurry? (i cant see behind the PIP video) thanks for the tutorial!
It’s the roughness.
can u describe about all methods on using metal textures using substrate material system??
will a glowing object shine through this properly?
I cant seem to get any coloured glass using this with path tracer?
How do you get the material to show reflections on it's surface?

How can I add reflection to this glass material? 🤔
Ive put this material in my windows but it behaves like a mirror (reflects everything whats in the room). UE 5.4.4
how to make volumetric fog material using substrate?
How did you change the colour of the glass?
Subbed! Amazing stuff!!

I'm not sure why that happens but just look up the substrate slab node and replace the ue4 node with it. Worked for me.
@@artgirlpaint4298 yea, i found it, the thing is that it won't showed up as default as in the video as i was a bit lost

Substrate材质是不可逆的,当你要使用Substrate 材质时候,你应该copy project
Is it working with Lumen scenes or with baked?
Very good explanation of the Substrate stuff thank you.
somehow i have the ue4 strata in ue 5 ? how can i fix that?
Hmmm. Very cool. What about something like dirty glass? Can you apply a texture to this somehow?
Yup, you can apply a roughness map and use it for fingerprints and stuff.
hi. how add (put on) MarvelousDesigner obj garment to UE5 on metahuman avatar?
Can you do a gem stones tut with the new system?
Does not work with raytrasing reflections? Only lumen or screen space?

Unfortunately we still don't have any colored translucent shadows in lumen😢
Yeah I think that will be added pretty soon.
100%, even minecraft rtx and some rt shaders have that lol

Pls make a video on blueprint / c++ .
Doesn't work for car windows with window models that has thickness. IOR issues so it looks like there's car inside car.
Thanks for another great tutorial! Do you know if it's possible to use tessellation with substrate materials yet ?

afaik its a well known limitation for now...
the offset in my usecase is BONKERS, it acts like a mirror, i did exactly like him, but tried to apply on a plane for a window on my archviz scene
