I've found that the fear of abandonment is usually related to unresolved childhood trauma issues and many people who end up in these types of "relationships" have simliar wounds.
I'm not inferring that it's an excuse for abusive behaviour, or a reason to stay with them though, especially since unhealed abuse survivors can be the most dangerous individuals. ❤
