**UPDATE UPDATE** NOTE: I am not a lawyer, I am not giving you legal advice. If you need legal advice please speak to an attorney. With that said, Keep in mind that "fixed magazine" rifles are limited to 10 round magazines only. If you insert a magazine on a rifle that is, under law in a fixed magazine configuration, you will be in possession of an unregistered "assault weapon" please don't ne that guy. This is a "fixed magazine" setup and you must be careful. This is a setup if you want your rifle to look like a standard configuration ar15 in looks only. Eventhough you can legally own magazines with capacities greater then 10 rounds, do not put them in a "fixed magazine" rifle or a Registered "Bullet Button Assault Weapon"(BBRAW) here is the current "assault weapon" definition based on generic characteristics, (a)Notwithstanding Section 12276, “assault weapon” shall also mean any of the following: (1)A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following: (A)A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon. (B)A thumbhole stock. (C)A folding or telescoping stock. (D)A grenade launcher or flare launcher. (E)A flash suppressor. (F)A forward pistol grip. (2)A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds. (3)A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has an overall length of less than 30 inches.
@martinz1540 Don't confuse people. A 30 round body that meets California standards for a 10 round capacity is not the same as a 30 round magazine or 250 round drum lol. All that matter is capacity not body of said magazine/drum.
@martinz1540 I was just saying not to spread misinformation. If you have a "fixed magazine" rifle and have a magazine, even if it is permanently affixed with more than 10 rounds, under California law it is not a "fixed magazine" rifle. So again, to clear any confusion, even if you legally own magazines that hold 11-1,000,00 rounds (exaggerating a bit) you cannot legally use them in a "fixed magazine" setup as it would fall under the definition of "fixed magazine" You concede how your comment could cause some confusion, right?
@martinz1540 No they can't, again if you aren't sure on something please don't spread misinformation. Again, even if you legally acquired magazines holding 11 rounds plus, you cannot under any circumstances put them in a rifle that is "fixed magazine" only exceptions are, any rifle that does not meet the definition of an "assault weapon" or a pre-2001 RAW(Registered Assault Weapon) If you need a link to any laws, penal codes let me know. I would be more than happy to share them with you. Unless you want to be a felon don't put any mag holding 11-1,000,000 rounds in a rifle that is setup with "assault weapon" features.
@martinz1540 What you just said, I clearly explained in full detail in this video. Also, you are forgetting a crucial part of what makes a rifle "fixed magazine" A rifle can only be fixed magazine if the magazine that is affixed to said rifle holds only 10 or less rounds. If it holds more than 10, that means 11 rounds or more than it is no longer a "fixed magazine" rifle. If you think I am wrong on this, please seek legal counsel because again ignorance of a law is not an excuse.
@martinz1540 Arg... Sometimes I wonder if I am wasting my breath. This is my last attempt at keeping you out of trouble. You are dead wrong brother. I am not trying to or think that I am better than you but believe me, you are wrong. Hopefully this answered question will help put out by Firearms Policy Coalition, Q: What are the "features" that can make a firearm into an "assault weapon"? In addition to other categories of "assault weapons" (that we aren't going to talk about here), Cal. Penal Code § 30515(a) says that an "assault weapon" is: (1) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that does not have a fixed magazine but has any one of the following: (A) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon. (B) A thumbhole stock. (C) A folding or telescoping stock. (D) A grenade launcher or flare launcher. (E) A flash suppressor. (F) A forward pistol grip. (2) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds. (3) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has an overall length of less than 30 inches. (4) A semiautomatic pistol that does not have a fixed magazine but has any one of the following: (A) A threaded barrel, capable of accepting a flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer. (B) A second handgrip. (C) A shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel that allows the bearer to fire the weapon without burning the bearer’s hand, except a slide that encloses the barrel. (D) The capacity to accept a detachable magazine at some location outside of the pistol grip. (5) A semiautomatic pistol with a fixed magazine that has the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds. (6) A semiautomatic shotgun that has both of the following: (A) A folding or telescoping stock. (B) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, thumbhole stock, or vertical handgrip. (7) A semiautomatic shotgun that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine. (8) Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder. And, for purposes of [Cal. Penal Code section 30515], " 'fixed magazine' means an ammunition feeding device contained in, or permanently attached to, a firearm in such a manner that the device cannot be removed without disassembly of the firearm action." Cal. Penal Code section 30515(b). If after reading this, go to calguns.net and look at the AW Flow Chart or start a thread and ask about using magazines holding more than 10 rounds in a fixed magazine configuration is legal if you legally acquired those magazines. I am only trying to help. Again you are wrong brother.
Gun community needs to get together and fight for California gun laws. Everyone should have the right to wield a full semi automatic ar 15 with no restrictions whatsoever
It's quite obvious The people of California Don't even fight for their on gun laws This type of BS is going to get somebody killed while they're trying to defend their home family etc. I live in a free state such as Ohio where my weapons function exactly how they were designed No restrictions No infringement on my rights
@@ohdeechris2355 no. If someone isn't fit to have firearms they aren't fit to be free. If they are fit to be free, they are fit to have their american rights.
Many people in this country trade freedom for safety, Benjamin Franklin once said: "Those who would give up Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
If I could go back in time and bring the founders to the present world I would do it,and I would replace these fascist modern politicians with the founders by any means necessary.
“I cannot drop this to save my life.” Therein lies the problem. I have high hopes for SCOTUS. Hopefully they will resolve this injustice in my lifetime.
I know youre joking but lets say i want my ar15 to be plain jane style with none of this california compliant crap then all of sudden im a felon. So even though im an excelent example of a role model citizen their stupid laws make me a felon. Doesnt make sense at all.
Featureless is better option, with a thordsen stock it changes hand position but its an easy train. Way faster than fixed mag, here you have to release the bolt, push the button to break action, press the button to drop the mag, close the action , finally recharge. Featureless: drop the mag, release the bolt. In high stress situation, muscle memory is faster with two steps instead of 5. Also you can have your grandfathered or freedom week standard capacity on featureless. So you have to reload more often with a fix mag option anyways. Featureless is the way to go imho
people will die if something like this was attempted. unlike other places who dont follow our way of doing things, we have ABSOLUTE RIGHTS THAT CAN NEVER BE TAKEN AWAY. i'll go down fighting....but i wont be alone. this is america...where we have ABSOLUTE RIGHTS to keep and bear arms with NO INTERFERENCE
Christian Martinez I really like the FAB Defense OMC Ultimags, a Mag|Coupler aka RJK Ventures LLC also makes a coupler that replaces the magazine floorplate on magpul 10 round pmags and works just as good. I like the OMC because it is weighted and 2 10 round mags plus OMC weigh within an ounce of most 30 round magazines. Both OMC and Mag|Coupler fit in standard rigs and mag pouches.
@@toamaiusdvignir9468 are those mags legal to run in a ca compliant rifle? Like say I want an identical rifle to yours how legal is that setup? Also how easy/fast is that push pin that breaks the action how easy is it to get a msg out turn it around and stick it back in close the gun and be ready to fire again?
Jacob Holloway To be honest compared to other fixed magazine options that are now considered "assault weapons" this is much faster. Bullet button was a fixed magazine option which required use of a tool to drop the magazine and a bullet tip was considered a tool. This was in my opinion super slow and rifles like this were considered the norm. I wish I could have a rifle that was just like everyone else's in a free state. However, I live in California and rifles with features are considered "assault weapons" so by complying with the law, I can keep all my features and have the rifle look and function as close to normal and stay legal. Like I have said before, this is not slow at all. I go to Arizona a lot where they have no restrictions and I can freely remove mod which takes less than 1 minute(1 hex head screw). Now I find myself not taking the 1 minute to take off mod. Instead I train on this setup and just keep getting faster. I would say it is as fast as a standard ak. The only difference is having to send bolt home. Other than that, you just drop magazine and charge the weapon.
Toamaius D'Vignir I understand and agree, the only problem is knowing that it's faster obviously means next year they're going to ban this option as well. It seems they are trying to do everything except physically taking them.I too live in California and I am starting to explore my interest in guns and it's sad how limited my options are. I just bought an AR pistol upper and now I'm worried I won't even be able to complete my build. But I will add that I am excited that if I can complete it this does look like an exceptional option.
Jacob Holloway Yeah, if you are now getting into firearms, it will come as a shock to see how many restrictions we have on commonly used firearms. This option is very ban proof. In order for them to ban this set up they would need to do 2 things. 1, Somehow make the argument that a fixed magazine rifle is an "assault weapon" 2, Say that a single shot, bolt action action is an "assault weapon" this in my opinion would be impossible. Not only would they be coming after ar 15 or al weapons with a similar setup, but every hunting rifle in the state.. Fudds do not vote on black rifles. But talk about their wood guns and hunting rifles and they will come out of the wood work to stand and fight with us(at the polls) This is a great set up for ar pistols, however after Jun 30, 2018 all 80% lowers require registration and you must ask for a serial number and have a certified FFL put it on your 80% lower before you can finish it. I also believe you can no longer make a pistol out of such lower in California. There are tons of single shot exemption pistol lowers that are available for sale through private party which you can buy and use to complete your build using this setup, but instead of costing you market price they command a premium essentially it created a black market of sorts. Similar to buying any other off roster gun. This makes me sad, good luck.
Toamaius D'Vignir Military standard is to fire a shot, change the mag, and fire another shot within 1.5 seconds. Think about it. While a police officer can have his gun back up with 30 rounds against you, your taking around 4 seconds to have 10 rounds against him. Stand no chance.
Toamaius D'Vignir is it not possible for you to move from this shit hole state of yours ? Come to Tennessee we are still free Americans enjoying every possible gun right
Your the best person that explained how this works, unlike other videos they just do it like the viewers already know what they talking about. Best info that you can also release the mag by the front bolt.
There are options to the featureless grip. It's not that you cannot wrap your thumb around it, the web of your hand between thumb and trigger finger has to be higher than trigger as in a commonly stocked rifle, so one option is you can use a Juggernaught Tactical featureless grip. To me it's a much better option than disabling my magazine release to have to crack open the action.
I'm 64. Been in CA most of my life. I don't expect to see the state loosened from the grip of the socialists during my lifetime. Am I pessimistic? Possibly. I think that's more of a realistic viewpoint.
Only if it looks like a "military weapon". Semi automatic rifles are okay, just not features and accessories if your rifle is black. They only ban features, and restrict magazine capacity, it has nothing to do with how weapon operates or caliber.
6:00 In my setup with the Juggernaut rear pin, with the bolt locked back, I'm still able to pop the rear pin to the point of releasing the Freedom Fighter mag release pin to remove the magazine. I think manipulating the front pivot point in the event of a jam is not needed then.
I really enjoy your AR! I'm in the market for my first AR and am trying to pick between a Daniel Defense or an LWRCI. I unfortunately moved back to the Bay Area here in California from Florida and feel like I got slapped in the face in regards to all the crazy laws here. In your opinion, what company do you recommend? I have a budget of about $2500 but would also like to use some of the towards upgrades if possible.
I went with a almost identical system. I utilize the Hogue Freedom Fighter, except I don't use the Jugernout pin. I use the AR maglock Kingpin. If there's a double feed and the bolt Carrier group is stuck back in the buffer tube you can push the AR Maglock Kingpin and it will break open far enough to release the magazine catch button, even with the bolt carrier group stuck back in the buffer tube. You will be able to remove the magazine.
Yes, it's legal. The pin doesn't make it compliant without using their "bolt catch lock" or other options like AR MagLock or Hogue Freedom Fighter. This rifle is legal as it was shown in the video.
Hi there. This is a custom build. Lower is an Anderson Manufacturing Ghost Stripped Lower(means it only has model and serial number, no logo or graphics) In the lower is a Palmetto State Armory Lower Parts Kit(less the fire control group) Trigger is a ALG Defense ACT Trigger. Buffer Tube Extension Assembly is a carbine length Palmetto State Armory Mil-Spec. Grip and trigger guard are Magpul MOE. The stock is a FAB Defense GL-Mag with a 10 round FAB Defense Ultimag. Upper is a 16" mid-length Palmetto State Armory 7-1 twist Nitride with 13.5 inch Magpul M-LOK Handguard. Sights are Magpul MBUS Gen 2. Then what makes it compliant are Juggernaut Tactical Hellfighter Mod Kit Takedown Pin and Hogue Freedom Fighter. Should cost about 900.00 to build this yourself, plus or minus 100.00 Hope this helped, thanks for watching.
The latest mass-killing shooting was done with a Glock - doesn't that pretty much shoot down (pardon the pun) the argument that only and AR does the worst killing(s)?
Virginia Tech had over x2 the body count as Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Weapons used were both handguns, one was .22 and the other was a 9mm gun control isn't about ar 15, they want all semi-automatic period. Also, let's not forget those killed without the use of firearms in France, a truck can do so much more in less time. Not to mention car bombs or other means a crazy person intent on committing mass murder might use.. Guns aren't the issue.
@@toamaiusdvignir9468 Thank you Patriot! Once they get our semi's, they'll just ban all guns and confiscate- except for the Gestapo police who they want to control the FEMA camps. The NWO is lurking in our own gov't. Give up nothing! Take care, and keep up the good fight!
You know what the saddest part of all this is? The resignation in the guys voice, as if this is just another day at the office. Imagine getting in a real gunfight with that thing. No thanks. They shit all over the K.I.S.S. principle in California. My M4 is pristine, unaffected by BS politics, and never will be.
Never say never. There’s a country wide agenda going and guess what.. it’s to take away guns. The more they do that the more we get closer to becoming like China. Less people to fight back, call it a conspiracy but your grandkids kids will most likely see it full action.
How is that ca compliant? You still have a pistol grip and adjustable butt stock right? I was under the impression that the grip needed to be modified so your thumb can’t be wrapped around and their are companies that sell good compliant grips. I was told also that if you change the grip to that funky new “compliant” one you can then “fix” the adjustable butt stock you have and that would make it compliant. Other choice would be to make it into a bolt action and keep the features 🤷🏻♂️ ????
Uncer California laws, your weapon is an "assault weapon" if your rifle is semiautomatic and has detachable magazine and any 1 offending feature. This a fixed magazine rifle. The magazine cannot be removed when in semiautomatic configuration To remove the magazine lower and upper must be separated (disassembled) before you can prove the magazine. Fixed magazine rifle are in compliance with state laws. Only way to make a fixed magazine rifle into an "assault weapon" is to put a magazine which hold more than 10 rounds. Another way to have a legal semiautomatic rifle that has a detachable magazine is a featureless rifle. This means no flash hider, no forward pistol grip(2nd pistol grip forward of the receiver), no pistol grip, no adjustable/folding or collapsible sticks. Think of a Ruger Mini 14 with a standard sporting stock. Just make sure I'd you have a muzzle device of any kind it is not sold/advertised by its manufacturer as "flash hiding" same applies to ar/ak pattern rifles.
Did you buy this as it is from Palmetto State Armory? Can I order one just like this for shipping to California? Do they offer the fixed mag option? Thanks
I watched this vid about 2 years ago and had it installed on my AR. Hands down best way to go. Went to visit my brother in Nevada and went to the range with him and him and his friends. His friends were informing me that Cali gun laws suck, I said yes they do and most of the people do also. I informed them my AR is asshole compliant. They never picked up on the button you hit while changing mags. Way better than a feature less Bud Light AR.
I travel outside of California and rarely relive the mod because I am so use to it. In free state without fixed magazine laws you can add any magazine regardless of capacity. However if you wanted a taste of freedom removing the Hogue Freedom Fighter is only an Allen key away takes 30 seconds. Putting it back on will take about 10 minutes including adjusting to ensure magazine won’t drop without action being opened. Anywho glad you like the setup still best option if you like features. I like capacity myself now and went featureless so I can use my freedom week mags. I may do a quick video on it.
I agree: The Hogue Freedom Fighter combined with the Juggernaut Tactical Rear Takedown pin/release is the best combination to keep your AR compliant with the tyrannical Commieforniastan.
ask Matt Lol, yep. This should be good even when they redefine "assault weapon" I hear this year they are going to include any semi-automatic center fired rifle that accepts a detachable magazine. So featureless ar and all hunting rifles.
this is the combo i need to put on my Anderson Am15 cause man its a pain in the ass to drop the whole front to just change mags. glad Toamaius D'Vignir spoke bout these things!!
tuna0n3 Yep, this is truly the best combo. I travel to free states a lot and sometimes when I am feeling lazy, I find myself not taking the 1 to 2 minutes it takes to convert this to a standard ar15. Only thing I do different is use standard capacity magazines vs reduced capacity magazines. Even my Arizona friends who have no idea what compliance rifles are find this setup easy to train on. I also take every shooting opportunity to train on this. Bolt release, push to crack action open, release magazine, insert magazine, close action, charge weapon.(keep in mind this is a reload from bolt lock) Tactical reloads are, Crack action open, release magazine, reload fresh magazine, close action.... If you are okay with magazine modifications or buying special mags(make sure you verify 100% function and reliability). I highly recommend using complete Juggernaut Tactical Hell Fighter Kit. Will turn your operation of arms to that of an ak pattern rifle, you will lose your bolt catch. From empty, bolt will automatically slam forward, crack action open, release magazine, reload fresh magazine, close action and charge weapon. Double feeds can be cleared as well, it just takes a little more time than Hogue Freedom Fighter Kit combo with JT Hellfighter Kit.
i saw a few videos about a tether that seemed to do the job then came across your video and man did it change my mind! i have both styles of CA complaint AR's but this seriously made a whole difference to this style. im so glad to have came across this video. thank you again man! really much appreciated!
This seems like a great solution, only question is how do you drill and tap the receiver and install the Hogue Freedom Fighter magazine release? Is this something that you can have a shop do? The rear takedown pin seems easy enough to self-install but I wouldn't say I have the knowledge or tools to modify the receiver.
I did this myself. The Hogue Freedom Fighter Kit will come with everything except for drill, wood workers clamp, tap and T handle. You will also need lube for drilling and tapping(WD40 works fine) The HFFK has great instructions, however Brownells made a great how to video. I highly recommend it. If you have any questions let me know, thanks for watching.
Question: Did you skip a step in the firing sequence? at 5:17 after dropping the old mag you need to snap the rear takedown back together before loading new mag and charging the weapon. I have forgotten to do that and it will jam. Please correct me if I am wrong.
That device clamped on your hand guard, I assume that it is to reduce upper receiver flop. I have been looking for something similar. Could you please let me know the manufacturer? Very informative video! Thanks!
Hi there, no such device installed on this rifle. If you mean the set screws by the magwell those are what clamp on the handgun. This us a 13.5" PSA lightweight M-LOK Slim Handguard. The only.thing that stops it from flopping all over is the design of the rear takedown pin made by Juggernaut Tactical. I hope this cleared up any confusion. Thanks for watching.
Lower is an Anderson AM-15 Ghost Lower(no logo, just model and serial number) inside is a ALG Defense ACT Fire Control Group. I believe my lower kit is DPMS lower kit less the Fire Control Group. Receiver extension is standard PSA mil-spec tube, spring and buffer. Stock is by FAB-Defense GL-Mag for AR variants. Upper is a PSA complete Upper Assembly 13.5 inch lightweight handguard Magpup MBUS Gen 2 I have reconfigured the gun since the video so I have added weapon light, Holosun military grade circle dot and now setup as a featureless variant. I will be doing a video on what it is looking like soon.
@@toamaiusdvignir9468 Thank you for detailing all the components on the rifle. I am still figuring/ debating where to go on fixed mag or featureless. Since you already hands on operating/maneuvering both configurations. Would you mind sharing your experience and preference on one configuration than another and why? Greatly appreciate your input.
@@f1176 Honestly, if you think you might use or for a second consider using rifle for defensive use, hands down featureless is the way to go. I made this video at the time where things were different (pre-freedom) week. All things being equal and 10 round limits applied, I really liked this setup. However after freedom week it all changed, a fixed magazine rifle is limited to 10 rounds, those limitations are a huge consideration if you should have legally acquired magazines with more than 10 rounds. Which is why my setup is now featureless. As a range toy and cool factor, fixed magazine is still better. If you prefer utility, and ease of use, featureless is king. I will be doing a video update on my featureless build and update what rifle looks and functions like soon. Life has me super busy so I don't have an ETA. If you want a sneak peek, feel free to message me at calguns forum my user name is Toamaius. I will probably to a post there first.
@@toamaiusdvignir9468 Appreciated very much on giving your actual experience and consideration. Now I don't have to go through all you have gone through to make a better choice when I only want to own one gun. Flash hider, forward vert handle, and adjustable stock are not that important to me although they are very cool. Yet normal removable mag is very practical and essential to me maintaining the AR integrity. Yes, fixed mag can be reload fast but increases wear on the front hinge/lower for a long run. I would think featureless is a better way to go for me. Now for the hand grip, Strike Industry Megafin grip and Resurgent Arms have caught my attention. Any experience or other inputs on the grips? You mentioned the fixed mag configuration, one can ONLY load 10 round mag even one legally acquired +10 round mag. Can featureless configuration load legally acquired +10 round mag per CA law? or same rule as fixed mag configuration? Springfield Saint Victor STV916556BCA including an one stage trigger caught my eyes. Any thoughts on this one? I sure will message you at calguns to sneak peek your new built. Thank you for your kindness
Still an option in California. "Freedom Week" changed everything so it's only an option for people who want a featured rifle or people who missed out on "Freedom Week" the rifle itself still relevant as it was then. My current main setup is much more elaborate, it was built as a combat rifle around "Freedom Week" I am considering starting to post more video updates once I reach 1K subs.
I feel for you in California. Looks like such a pain. I don’t know how you can remember to do all that in a fight. Hope you never find yourself in that situation 🙏🏻.
Well, when all things are equal and capacity was the same regardless, then this was my choice. Of course freedom week changed everything. Legally I can't use any magazine bigger than 10 rounds on a "fixed magazine" rifle as it makes that an assault weapon as by definition they are only considered fixed magazine if it's limited to 10 rounds. Right now my main setup is not bad at all. featureless and ambi-safety a long with a Resurgence Arms featureless grip. I can legally used my mags on this one. and besides not having a flash hider, pistol grip or and adjustable stock its the same. I travel to AZ frequently and when I take my rifle a long for the trip I don't bother changing it back to a standard configuration, train the same way I would have to use it in CA.
I'm also in California and I bought a LMT Commando. It has a sorry ass A2 stock so it's good to know I can replace it because it's a fixed mag gun. I like that couple mag you have and I might even do the stock. Can you give me the names of the companies?
Both are FAB Defense products. Mags or OMC(Opposite Magazine Coupler) can be had as stand alone products or an OMC kit. The stock is a GL-Mag. Good luck, thanks for watching.
My personal opinion is. The only crappy part of featureless is the flash hider, other than that I don't see any issue with featureless, featureless rife you can straight click on the mag release pop in your mag and your good to go.
I see where you are coming from, however with that said, there are better featureless options that are more ergonomic than an featureless ar 15. I don't see a point of a featureless ar, unless it is a SCR or SU-16, those 2 rifles are naturally featureless, the SCR will take any standard ar upper assembly. These rifles do not have to be modified to be featureless and shoot just like any standard hunting rifle or shotgun. I won't even mention a mini 14. We like the ar, because it is a full featured modern sporting rifle, when you convert setup your rifle into a featureless configuration, you give up everything that makes it an ar 15.
@That grey area Hmmm.... How is defiance by legal compliance make anyone a cuck? The state wanted us to register our modern semi-automatic sporting rifles as "assault weapons" based on features only. Doing this allows me to defy registration and keep all the "evil feature" they were looking to ban. With that said, you sir are an idiot.
I don't understand why i can't have a pidtol grip muzzle brake and adjustable stock on a center fire rifle, but can on a rim fire. So if i did a .22 block conversion in my AR, and kept all the features, is it now ok or is it still an assult weapon?
@@jross13450 .22 not considered assault weapon lol i have all my features on my .22 AR and they even sell them with pistol grips, detachable mag and vertical grip.
Hello, this is still good in 2020 in the State of California. Just remember "fixed magazine" means limited to 10 rounds. Even if you legally own magazines that hold 11+ rounds. So if the magazine is locked like what is shown in this video and you have a magazine holding 11+ rounds, it magically turns this into an "assault weapon" Another option is "featureless" with this you get a standard magazine release/catch, but you cannot have any 1 of the offending features like, flash hider/supressor, forward pistol grip, pistol grip or and adjustble/collapsible or folding stock. these are the 2 ways to legally own an ar15 style weapon in California. PS: If you legally own magazines with more than 10 rounds, you can use them in a featureless rifle as no law on the books against using these legally acquired magazines on weapons not considered "assault weapons" or "fixed magazine" if you have any other questions, let me know. Thanks for watching
Good video, I am going to install mine tomorrow. Did you use blue or red locktite for the pin? The tutorial says red locktite but I’m thinking blue is better because if for some reason it needs to be adjusted, its possible. Red is impossible to adjust imo. Thanks
I am assuming you are referring to the Hogue Freedom Fighter Kit set screw? If so, you don't need loctite. The spring pressure will stop it from backing out. Just make sure you clean are well after you drill/tap.(use a good degreaser)I followed instructions per the little pamphlet that comes with it. If it called for red loctite, I used blue and very little so it won't bind the plunger or spring. Make sure you adjust the magazine release properly, adjust so there is hardly any play of the magazine release button when receivers are closed. This can be done by using 500-800 grit sand paper and taking off a little bit at a time and check often. Goodluck and thanks for watching.
Oh jeez, no. In order to be "Fixed Magazine" it has to have a magazine of 10 rounds or less. If you own legal 11+ round magazines you can only use them in guns that wouldn't meet the definition of an "Assault Weapon" like "Featureless Rifle" setup. My pinned comment was a warning I gave for people who acquired magazines legally during "Freedom Week"
The upper and the lower are both PSA? They shipped it as a complete AR even tho it wasn't manufactured to be CA Compliant? I thought they couldn't do that. You are allowed to order non compliant and then make it compliant? TIA for clarification
Only the Upper featured in this video is from PSA. The lower is a Anderson Manufacturing "Ghost" Stripped Lower with DPMS Lower Parts Kit less Trigger Control Group, it has the ALG Defense ACT Trigger and springs. The buffer tube and spring are from PSA, I belive it is a standard carbine buffer tube. Not sure if you are aware. but california doesn't have any restrictions on long guns, there is thankfully no Roster like we have for hand guns. This means any and all weapons that don't meet restrictions for CA "Assault Weapon" Ban are fair game. To be brought in legally, a company only needs check these boxes when shipping to CA. Send complete rifle as a "Featureless Rifle" Must be 30" over all length, No Flash Hider, No Forward Pistol Grip, No Pistol Grip, Fixed Stock. and a 10 round magazine. Send a complete rifle as a "Fixed Magazine" Must be 30 inches overall length. have a "Fixed Magazine" and a 10 round magazine. Alternatively, you can buy any rifle you want and have your FFL convert to be compliant before you do paperwork and transfer to you. I hope this clarified any confusion, if you still have more questions. Be happy to answer the. Anything I can do to Arm more Californian's would be my pleasure.
@@toamaiusdvignir9468 Right i was wondering if the FFL was required to make it fixed mag or if you could do that on your own. Thank you for clarifying. I'll have to find an FFL that does that.
Hello Dan, thanks for watching and taking time to write a comment/question. I have posted the answer to this question several times. If you scroll down you will find a better answer than I am going to give you. Keep in mind that I have had a few beers so take this with a grain of salt. Since this video, I have upgraded the red dot sight featured in this video to a Holosun HS515GM. Upper is a PSA complete freedom upper with 13.5 M-LOK Handguard comes with Bolt Carrier Group and Charging Handle. Lower is a Anderson Manufacturing Ghost Lower(just means no logos or branding, just serial number) I that lower is a DPMS lower parts kit less Fire Control Group(FGC). That FGC is a ALG Defense ACT Trigger. Buffer is a PSA Mil-Spec Buffe Tube with a H2 buffer. Stock is a FAB Defense GL-Mag. The magazines used in this video are FAB Defense Ultimags coulpled with FAB Defense OMC, (Opposite Magazine Coupler) Any other question, don't hesitate to ask. Thanks for watching and taking time to write a comment.
Okay i understand that. But say you have the 33 or 32 rd mag it will shoot all 32 then hit the hellfighter release the mag etc etc right??? I havnt seen anyone shoot a whole clip out of the juggernaut yet. When they review it they only shoot 3 bullets hit it put the new mag then another 3 bullets.
Not sure if this is a joke, but I will answer it anyways. No. You may not legally use a magazine that holds more than 10 rounds in a fixed magazine configuration even if you legally own those magazines. Under definitions and penal codes that govern semi-automatic rifles in Commifornia, fixed magazine has "10 round" limit in it's definition of what a fixed magazine rifle is. With a 10 round magazine, you can rack a round into the chamber, take out magazine add the additional mag to have 11 rounds in the gun. You can fire as many, or all of the rounds you want before you reload. I think people you speak of who shoot 1 or 3 rounds, then reload are just doing that to showcase the speed of the Juggernaut Tactical Hogue Freedom Fighter combo.
I am new to the gun world and would love to build my own AR 15 pistol or SBR I understand I need to start with the lower reciever, but will the gun store sell it to me? Can you make a step by step video of how this process works in CA for new gun. Owners ?
If you are interested in an AR-15 Pistol and want to be legal, then the only option is to go with a Franklin Armory CA7 (5.56mm) or CA11 (.300) these are AR pattern pistols that are on the approved handgun roster. Unfortunately these are bolt action only repeaters. DoJ has a blanket term for what they call a "single shot" and this may or may not fall under that term. Say you had one of these pistols, If you made it into a semi-automatic, it must be in a "fixed magazine" setup. Otherwise it is an "assault weapon" Here is a link for info on sbr/sbs www.guntrustlawyer.com/amp/california-ca-what-nfa-firearm/
Not sure I understand your question. The rear takedown pin has 2 positions, one cracks the receivers for reloading, other allows for full disassembly of the receivers. I hope this helps.
Yes, that is correct. When you buy a semi-automatic center-fire rifle it will only be available 2 ways, fixed magazine or featureless. Another way is to buy a stripped lower and build it into a compliant variant.
7:47 you said you have two reload in California? Did you mean that as in your only allowed to reload twice or were you taling about the ability to reload twice with that clip?
Oh jeez, sorry I missed this. You can have as many as you want. Yes I meant reloading twice on due to my magazine set up. It's commonly said that you have what's on the gun. setup at the time allowed for 30 rounds total, magazine had 20 and 10 in the buttstock.
Also with the Hogue Freedom fighter combined with the AR Maglock King Pin it is even faster to change your mag than it used to be with a bullet button.
If you eventually moved out of state and removed the Houge freedom fighter would the mag release go back to normal. I'm 99 % percent sure it would I am just curious. Also did you do the drilling and install of it yourself?? Thank you so much and nice video!
Harry Harkins That is a great question. This is 100% removable as it is installed with a single hex head through screw. This is just a stepped hole, spring and plunger. Once you find yourself permanently in a free state, you can remove in a minute or 2. This mod is a receiver mod only, it uses all standard components including the magazine release. I did do this myself, I would highly recommend watching the Hogue/Brownells installation video, the paper instructions are amazingly detailed. But seeing the video is just that much better. I didn't use a vice and free handed it using a decent rom drill. Aluminum likes to be drilled a higher rpm.
I just bought a saint victor and it has the same thing but from them and I can’t seem to find a way to take the gun apart if I would like to change uppers or to clean it I’m new to ARs my first one , I’ve only owned handguns and bolt action rifles before this one
I would like clarification on the California Colt AR-15 compliant laws: Having a "mag lock" on a ten round clip with the rest of the rifle being all original, does that make it CA compliant?
As long as it doesn’t fit within assault weapons ban definition, not all mag locks are same. To your question, you can have any features you want except for short barrel and over length requirements anything else is fair game.
in Cali: What do you do at the practice range? Most every range I've used in California, during cease fire you need to drop the mag and have your weapon showing the chamber is empty. On an Umodified, or Bullet Button setup, the ejection port is open and the RSO can inspect the chamber, or you have a chamber flag in. If when the mag is out, and the charger is not locked back, the ejection port is closed, correct? do you have to pull back the changer, put in a chamber flag, and then let the charger return forward against the chamber flag? I know the RSOs were dreading this law because it adds more risk at the range during malfunctions. I think we all were taught besides maintaining muzzle in a safe direction, dropping the mag was one of the first things you do.
Not sure I followed what you were trying to get at? This rifle does have last round hold open and magazine can be removed, however since this is a fixed magazine rifle (kinda like a M1Garand or SKS) they don't expect you to remove the magazine. You can lock the bolt back to show clear. If you absolutely wanted when a ceasefire is called, you could fire last round, send bolt home after last round hold open, drop magazine pull charging handle back and have the bolt back and locked and no magazine in the gun. Laws only consider a gun an "assault weapon" if you can remove the magazine before first opening the action. Says nothing about assembly of a fixed magazine rifle before you can insert the magazine. This setup wouldn't fall under an "assault weapon" because even if you could insert the magazine, you couldn't remove it before first opening up the action. I hope this makes sense lol. If it sounds ridiculous it is, and so are the laws.
So whats the difference between your rifle and the AR-15 California Compliant Rifle ($1K) Juggernaut Tactical has on their website. I may have read it wrong but it comes with both the freedom fighter mag lock and the hellfighter rear pin. Should i get the 100% lower with the AR-15 Complete Upper Receiver in 18" ($1160 for both). What Free float length do you recommend? Sorry if these questions have obvious answers, thx for the informative video.
No difference other than preference/proce. I am the first person to use use combo they saw how good it was and collaborated to make a rifle like mine. I don't blame them it is a win win for both companies. I recommended a stripped receiver or even Juggernaut Tactical's Almost Complete Lower Receiver. It has Hellfighter Rear Takedown Pin and Hogue Freedom Fighter already installed. They also include a buffer tube assembly and all you need is the lower parts kit of your choice. I like to build my lower receivers, I like the option of choosing trigger components. As far as uppers, they are cheap enough to buy complete as you could save some money there. The upper I chose was a 16" 1-7 twist nitride mid-length 13.5" M-LOK light weight handguard. I got this for about 359.00 from Palmetto State Armory. My choice for free float handguard depends on barrel length, for 16-18 I like a 13.5 or 15.5" Hope this answered all your questions, thanks for watching.
I just brought the Stag 15 M4 Rifle and can’t wait to learn all its features and go to the range. Do anyone know any open field when it’s legal to shoot? If so please let me know.
You want to check with your local BLM to see where you are allowed to target practice out in the open there are tons are area. Also, California has a lot of open desert where you can go and be alone with yer guns.
I live in California and am heavily looking to buy an ar15, but the laws are tricky! So let me get this straight, you can have all the “features” you want (forward grip, pistol grip, extendable stock) as long have you have a fixed magazine system?
Jordan Calanchini Yep, that is right. "Assault Weapon" only applies to a rifle that is semi-automatic, and has a detachable magazine and has said features. If it is fixed magazine, you can have whatever you want.
So, did you then make your own rifle? What manufacturers did you go with? I'm currently saving up for one, I live in Socal, and as expensive as they are (for my budget), I won't be able to afford a second one for a long time, and I want the best that I can get, while I can.
I put this together starting with a stripped lower and configured it the way I want. If you are asking what is my recommendation for manufacturers for stripped lowers, the answer is easy. You cannot do better for the money than, Anderson Manufacturing, that is what my lowers foundation is. I also really like and recommend if you have a little more to spend Aero Precision's M4E1 has a billet look, but is actually forged. It also has no roll pins to punch, all use set screws. I don't mind spending a little more. Still a high value option. Rest is a DPMS lower parts kit, less trigger control group. Trigger control group is ALG Defense ACT. Buffertube I will highly recommend Leaper's UTG Pro for their complete mil-spec buffertube assembly. Smoothest shooting rifle you will ever shoot. I hope this helps.
Well, that's very nice, but the AR Maglok with Kingpin does the same thing. The problem is that the first products were engineered a lot better than the ones you get nowadays. Now the button extension often doesn't fit through the small crack and the extended release button can't open the mag release. I'm to the point where I'm just going to disobey the law and put normal factory releases in all my rifles. The chances are I won't get caught because most cops don't understand the administrative regs about separating the upper and lower to drop the mag, and, to their credit, many don't care.
Hello, you can buy one just like this from a gun store, but you can buy a receiver and build your own cheaper. The upper at the time was a complete Palmetto State Armory 5.56 upper, lower is a custom Anderson MFG no logo lower with custom trigger group. Compliance parts is Hogue Freedom Fighter and Juggernaut Tactical Hell Fighter Rear Pin.
Hi, you did not use the complete kit to install the new bolt catch, did you use the original bolt catch? Is your magazine release disabled when the gun is closed?
I used Hogue Freedom Fighter as my fixed magazine solution instead of the bolt catch style solution that comes with the Juggernaut Tactical Hellfighter Mod Kit. This allows you to keep your original bolt catch/release and last round bolt hold open when you fire the weapon until dry. Hogue Freedom Fighter requires minimal separation of the receivers so it marries well with the Juggernaut Tactical Hellfighter Mod Kit's Rear Takedown Pin. Yes, magazine release button only works when receivers are separated by action of the rear takedown pin. Once the rifle is fully assembled and operating as a semi-automatic, receivers closed the magazine release is disabled and will not drop the magazine. I hope this answered your questions, thanks for watching.
I have the same setup but when i have the magazine in and pull back the bolt carrier and it rests against the top of the magazine(which is empty) I can't drop the mag because the bolt carrier is pressing against it. Did i install something wrong?
You don't have the same setup. You are using the complete Juggernaut Tactical Hellfighter Mod Kit. The magazine locking mechanism replaces the standard bolt catch/release and requires special magazines or you must modify your mags. My setup uses the Hogue Freedom Fighter for the magazine locking device. It uses a standard bolt catch and you can use any magazine since you keep last round bolt hold open. However, bolt must be sent home to be able to break the rifle open slightly to before you can drop the magazine.

Thank you so much for this! I really love what you did here... do you by chance know if with the latest limitations in Commiefornia I can still build this? What’s with the serial number? Do I need to apply for that first?? I’m sorry I’m so green on this
@@FabioSpinella This lower is stripped lower made by Anderson Manufacturing. They call it their "Ghost" model because it has no logos. It only has Model, Manufacturer, and Caliber. It is a 100% finished lower and is the only part you must buy through an FFL because it is considered a firearm. You can choose to this route and finish the lower to accept an upper as a fixed magazine option or a featureless build. You only violate the law if once finished and assembled as a working semi-automatic and it has a working magazine release that functions without having to disassemble the rifle. This is legal 2018 and beyond, pretty ironclad. I am active on calguns.net feel free to look for "Toamaius" and you can send me a private message. We could even talk on the phone if you send me your contact info there. I would be happy to answer any questions you might have. Thanks for watching.
Sorry for late reply, doesn't meet the criteria of an "Assault Weapon" and it's setup as a "Fixed Magazine" you can do anything you want, except making it an "Short Barreled Rifle" other thing is over all length when fully collapsed which is 26". Reads like this, "The owner should not shorten a rifle barrel below 16” or the overall length under 26” (Penal Code 33210 and Penal Code 17170). The owner should not shorten a shotgun barrel below 18” or the overall length under 26” (Penal Code § 33210 and Penal Code § 17180)."
The upper is a complete PSA 16" 1-7 nitride barrel with 13"5 lightweight M-LOK rail. The lower is an Anderson Manufacturing Ghost Lower(no logos, just serial number, model and caliber) dropped in a DPMS lower parts kit, less the fire control group. The fire control group is an ALG Defense ACT Trigger. With Magpul MOE grip and trigger guard. The receivers extension tube is also psa mil-spec buffer tube same for plunger and spring. Added to the tube is a FAB Defense GL-Mag stock with included 10 round FAB Defesne Ultimag. The coupled magazines are also by FAB Defense, x2 10 round Ultimags coupled using FAB Defense OMC The fixed magazine is the Hogue Freedom Fighter paired with the Juggernaut Tactical Hellfighter Mod Kit rear takedown pin. Not shown here currently on my rifle are, Magpul B.A.D Lever(really speeds up sending bolt home) Inforce WML-X at the 9 o'clock position. Swapped about the AT3 Tacical red dot for a Holosun HS515GM. I will be doing an update video soon. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave.a comment.
If you mean build info, I have answered it many times in the comments section. If you mean the compliance stuff it is very simple. Rear pin is from Juggernaut Tactical which they call their Hellfighter Kit/Pin the magazine affixing device is by Hogue, they call it their Freedom Fighter Kit. Also, NY laws are different make sure that you abide by their letter if you are still in NY.
Toamaius D'Vignir thank you. I skimmed thru your comments and I didn’t notice the mention of parts. I’ve seen the MAGLOCK pin, but the whole upper flips forward. The one you show, the upper unlocks and only moves maybe a 1/4 inch, which I felt was a really cool feature.
Great video, I am just going to do a simple fixed magazine right now to make my rifle compliant as I don't really take it out much at all but my question is if you don't register are we all being put on a list or becoming criminals now? Don't wanna get pulled over and have some BS about not registering. Just curious.
XionPlassein No, you are in compliance of the law. If you have a fixed magazine rifle does not fall under what is classified under an assault weapon based on the law. Any fixed magazine option you choose, make sure you cannot drop magazine when action is close and rear pin is locking the upper and lower closed. If rifle is in an assembled configuration and you can drop the magazine, you will be in violation after the July 2018 deadline. The simplest most fool proof option to comply and have it be easily restored to a standard configuration is something called CompMag. Best fixed magazine option for compliance and range fun, definitely not a fighting rifle ar all. Fixed mag, easy reloading, keeps all features including standard magazine release and bolt catch. Last round hold open. Only about 65.99 or so plus like 10.00 shipping.
Buttstock is made by FAB Defense, it is called GL-Mag. The magazines are also by FAB Defense, called Ultimag OMC with 10 round Ultimags. Magazine locking device is made by Hogue, it is called Hogue Freedom Fighter. The rear takedown pin is from Juggernaut Tactical, it is called Hogue Hellfighter Mod Kit rear takedown pin.
Even today in 2023, features your rifle needs to be "Fixed Magazine" it's still the only option outside or Registered Bullet Button Assault Weapons or Registered Assault Weapons.
I don't have an AR lower, and I know there's no FFL requirement for AR uppers, is there a separate law in California for buying AR uppers that has flash hiders and a 12.5" barrel?
At the moment 01/09/2020 there is no law against buying any upper no matter what configuration you choose. However.... Do not put it on any lower as you would be creating an either a short barreled rifle or a pistol which are both ILLEGAL in CA. The only part that requires a serial number is the lower and is the only part you cannot have shipped to your house. Hope this answers any confusion. If you still not sure let me know. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment.
Juggernaut Tactical, uses a bolt catch style mechanism that replaces your ping pong paddle, it requires special magazines or you to modify your existing ones. You also won't have last round bolt hold open.
@@KorgBasharwahbePaxpaMG No, even if your rifle has a fixed magazine, it can only have 10 round capacity. Magazine pictured is x2 Ultimags coupled with OMC (Opposite Magazine Coupler) weighs the same as a fully loaded 30 round magazine and fits in standard magazine pouches. It allows for quick magazine changes.
I just purchased a Ddm4v7 CA compliant, do I have to buy a ar maglock to go with the pin? Or can I just get the pin by itself and would it function with the maglock that come with the ar?
Still legal, there are better options like usig a KingPin instead of a Juggernaut Tactical Hellffighter Mod Rear Takedown Pin. Also, using a Brownell's BRN--180 short stroke piston upper.
I like this - I'm about to begin an AR build for the first time and I am working through the confusion of being compliant. So this is 2020 and the video was made nearly 2 yrs ago Are these mods still applicable? Also does having a non detachable or fixed mag make it ok to retain the pistol grip in the back? Thanks for showing this - I hope you are free to reply
So, when building your rifle keep this in mind. In the state of CA, your rifle must have an over all length of >30" that is key. So if you have a side folding stock keep in mind the measurement is while it's folded. Now that that is out of the way, if you setup your file as a "fixed magazine" and you can have any and all "evil features" you want. you can have any type or quantity of pistol grips. Another thing that is key is, a "fixed magazine" means your magazine is limited to only 10 rounds, even if you legally acquired magazines that hold more than 10 rounds when they were sold legally. So if you go "fixed magazine" keep it your magazines limited to 10 rounds. This type of gun is still legal now and into the distant future as it is exempt from the entire "assault weapon ban" as long as it >30" when fully collapsed or folded. Hope this helps, thanks for taking the time to comment. Welcome to the world of ARs "fixed magazines" aren't the most practical, but for sure are the best looking and can be undone if you leave this communist state.
Correction only limit are the rifle over all length when fully collapsed is no less than 26" and have a barrel no less than 16" (You can have a 14" if you pin and weld the muzzle device, because the barrel over all length 16") other then that, you are free to have whatever features you want.
Sorry for super late reply. I had been not checking them for a while. This isn’t a single complaint kit. It’s a combination of 2 compliance options. The fixed magazine part is Hogue Freedom Fighter and the opening pin is from Juggernaut Tactical. They make other rear pins. But for front Hogue is the only real option. I kept bolt catch because of my fixed magazine choice. Juggernaut Tactical uses a bolt catch style mag lock.
Do you think in the future a mag lock system will be considered useless like the bullet button. I have Franklin mag that its fix to the lower. I also have maglock on to and i have one featurless with out a threaded barrel. I have 3 examples of ca compliant. Which do u consider best for the future laws?
Hugo Vega Franklin Armory DFM and FC Hook are both useful with Bear Flag Defense Loader or similar device. If you aren't a fan of loaders, CompMag is the best option. For a range type rifle. I see featureless being banned before a fixed magazine option.
Toamaius D'Vignir. Thanks for you suggestion. I would of never thought of a featurless version first, but i would see why. Once you get use to the fin or wrap around the grip. Its easy to load ..
I own a Socom 16 and love it, but I'm a n00b to the AR platform I came across your vid and its a great start for research material I to also live behind enemy lines in Cali, thanks for the vid!
You need special mags or make modifications to your mags if you use the bolt catch style magazine locking device that comes with the Juggernaut Tactical Hellfighter Mod kit. The Hogue Freedomfighter lets you keep a standard magazine bolt catch.
@@steveereeno2869 FAB Defense GL-Mag only stock I use on any of my AR's. On my to include my featureless setup, I use Strike Industries Stock Stop to lock it. Can't beat having and extra 10 rounds and still be this low profile.
Its x2 10 round mags coupled using OMC(Opposite Magazine Coupler) by FAB Defense. This is perfectly legal in a fixed magazine rifle because you can't shoot more than 10 rounds from each magazine without reloading.
Only the Rear Takedown Pin. My rifle has a standard ping pong paddle bolt catch/release. It also uses Hogue Freedom Fighter instead of the Juggernaut Tactical kits solution.
Palmetto State Armory is got some killer deals going on. One example is a similar set up upper. I paid 369.99 for mine, plus shipping and it is a 5.56 barrel. They have a .223 Wylde 18" with 15.5 inch MOE Handguard, comes with MBUS sights and Bolt Carrier and Charging handle, I saw it for 299.99 with free shipping. That upper is better than mine. If you aren't savvy on .223 Wylde, it is pretty much a match grade .223 chamber that can handle 5.56 pressures. Shoots both, but when you shoot .223 it will be a tax driver. PSA takes a long time to fulfill orders, but the value and product cannot be denied.
The Palmetto State Armory sale is only good through today for Labor Day. Hope you get this message before it ends and that you are financially ready to buy. Trust me when I say you will not get a better complete upper with true military grade spec parts and materials for the money uptown 1000.00 for only 300 bucks shipped. Good luck. Also, they have a Sig Sauer Rome5 red dot for 120.00 shipped which is a killer optic with an over 100.00 savings since they are shipping it free as well. Good luck.
@@mau5islife Yeah killer deals, like I said, if your build is standard 5.56/.223 That .223 Wylde complete upper for 299.99 shipped just cannot be beat. Probably a sub 1" upper. That Sig Sauer Romeo5 for 119.99 shipped also is just too good to pass on lol.
Is ur AR setup still the same? I'm looking to purchase an ar15 and I want all the features. Having to break my action to reload isn't all that bad to keep all the features I want.

**UPDATE UPDATE**
NOTE: I am not a lawyer, I am not giving you legal advice. If you need legal advice please speak to an attorney. With that said,
Keep in mind that "fixed magazine" rifles are limited to 10 round magazines only.
Eventhough you can legally own magazines with capacities greater then 10 rounds, do not put them in a "fixed magazine" rifle or a Registered "Bullet Button Assault Weapon"(BBRAW) here is the current "assault weapon" definition based on generic characteristics,
(a)Notwithstanding Section 12276, “assault weapon” shall also mean any of the following:
(1)A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following:
(A)A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon.
So again, to clear any confusion, even if you legally own magazines that hold 11-1,000,00 rounds (exaggerating a bit) you cannot legally use them in a "fixed magazine" setup as it would fall under the definition of "fixed magazine"
You concede how your comment could cause some confusion, right?
@martinz1540 No they can't, again if you aren't sure on something please don't spread misinformation. Again, even if you legally acquired magazines holding 11 rounds plus, you cannot under any circumstances put them in a rifle that is "fixed magazine" only exceptions are, any rifle that does not meet the definition of an "assault weapon" or a pre-2001 RAW(Registered Assault Weapon)
If you need a link to any laws, penal codes let me know. I would be more than happy to share them with you.
Unless you want to be a felon don't put any mag holding 11-1,000,000 rounds in a rifle that is setup with "assault weapon" features.
@martinz1540 What you just said, I clearly explained in full detail in this video. Also, you are forgetting a crucial part of what makes a rifle "fixed magazine"
A rifle can only be fixed magazine if the magazine that is affixed to said rifle holds only 10 or less rounds.
Hopefully this answered question will help put out by Firearms Policy Coalition,
Q: What are the "features" that can make a firearm into an "assault weapon"?
In addition to other categories of "assault weapons" (that we aren't going to talk about here), Cal. Penal Code § 30515(a) says that an "assault weapon" is:
(1) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that does not have a fixed magazine but has any one of the following:
(A) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon.
(4) A semiautomatic pistol that does not have a fixed magazine but has any one of the following:
(A) A threaded barrel, capable of accepting a flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer.
(6) A semiautomatic shotgun that has both of the following:
(A) A folding or telescoping stock.

Brother I didn't even know they had those 2-10 round mags together, that's awesome
If you tape two of them together you can fire 40 rounds in well under a minute with these mods. Now that's sticking it to the man!
Chef Danger I believe they have a 40 round mag oh wait
@@toamaiusdvignir9468 are those mags legal to run in a ca compliant rifle? Like say I want an identical rifle to yours how legal is that setup? Also how easy/fast is that push pin that breaks the action how easy is it to get a msg out turn it around and stick it back in close the gun and be ready to fire again?
Pathetic, I'm moving. It's sad how accurate your word choice was, "I can't remove the mag to save my life."
1, Somehow make the argument that a fixed magazine rifle is an "assault weapon"
2, Say that a single shot, bolt action action is an "assault weapon" this in my opinion would be impossible. Not only would they be coming after ar 15 or al weapons with a similar setup, but every hunting rifle in the state.. Fudds do not vote on black rifles. But talk about their wood guns and hunting rifles and they will come out of the wood work to stand and fight with us(at the polls)
This is a great set up for ar pistols, however after Jun 30, 2018 all 80% lowers require registration and you must ask for a serial number and have a certified FFL put it on your 80% lower before you can finish it.
Toamaius D'Vignir
Military standard is to fire a shot, change the mag, and fire another shot within 1.5 seconds.
To me it's a much better option than disabling my magazine release to have to crack open the action.
www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=1578369 currently similar setup exept it's now a .300 HAM'R, I might do a video on it later.

Good thing semi automatic fire arms aren't assault weapons
Only if it looks like a "military weapon". Semi automatic rifles are okay, just not features and accessories if your rifle is black. They only ban features, and restrict magazine capacity, it has nothing to do with how weapon operates or caliber.

In my setup with the Juggernaut rear pin, with the bolt locked back, I'm still able to pop the rear pin to the point of releasing the Freedom Fighter mag release pin to remove the magazine.
Yeah, setup isn't bad, at the time this pin was the best. Still serves has it's place, but Freedom Week changed everything as per my pin comment lol.
I'm so sorry that your own government is working full time putting all of its efforts into oppressing you. Makes me sick.
Is this juggernaut rear take down pin still legal? I've heard it's not legal anymore in CA? I'm curious cuz I want to get one. Lol
Yes, it's legal. The pin doesn't make it compliant without using their "bolt catch lock" or other options like AR MagLock or Hogue Freedom Fighter. This rifle is legal as it was shown in the video.
I am a beginner, but I think it’s really cool AR which I want to get, so what brand, model for this one & how much will this one cost? Thanks!
Should cost about 900.00 to build this yourself, plus or minus 100.00
Hope this helped, thanks for watching.

The magazine cannot be removed when in semiautomatic configuration
To remove the magazine lower and upper must be separated (disassembled) before you can prove the magazine.
Yeah, they only went after features and magazine capacity. If you go featureless, you can have a standard magazine release.
Did you buy this as it is from Palmetto State Armory? Can I order one just like this for shipping to California? Do they offer the fixed mag option? Thanks
Don't forget to message your House Representatives to vote AGAINST HR7115!
How do you name it 3D Gun Act when it DOESN'T include 3d Printers?
So featureless ar and all hunting rifles.
this is the combo i need to put on my Anderson Am15 cause man its a pain in the ass to drop the whole front to just change mags. glad Toamaius D'Vignir
spoke bout these things!!
tuna0n3 Yep, this is truly the best combo.
Bolt release, push to crack action open, release magazine, insert magazine, close action, charge weapon.(keep in mind this is a reload from bolt lock)
Tactical reloads are,
Crack action open, release magazine, reload fresh magazine, close action....
Double feeds can be cleared as well, it just takes a little more time than Hogue Freedom Fighter Kit combo with JT Hellfighter Kit.
i saw a few videos about a tether that seemed to do the job then came across your video and man did it change my mind! i have both styles of CA complaint AR's but this seriously made a whole difference to this style. im so glad to have came across this video. thank you again man! really much appreciated!
tuna0n3 Np, thanks for watching.
You will also need lube for drilling and tapping(WD40 works fine)
The HFFK has great instructions, however Brownells made a great how to video. I highly recommend it. If you have any questions let me know, thanks for watching.
Toamaius D'Vignir Thanks!
So Sad.
Question: Did you skip a step in the firing sequence? at 5:17 after dropping the old mag you need to snap the rear takedown back together before loading new mag and charging the weapon. I have forgotten to do that and it will jam. Please correct me if I am wrong.
I have the same setup on my ddm4v11.... the juggernaut takedown pin bypass is the best upgrade I ever did!
I don't know. I heard that in order to comply with "full featured" , the mag must be welded, riveted, or glued in.
Not in California.
Thanks for the response! I'm not familiar with that type of hand guard.
What brand and model number of AR-15 you have there? or self built one? Thank you for demonstrating the operations.

Toamaius D'Vignir Thanks, man.
My stepfather has a ca compliant rifle and that front pin trick works incredibly great on 2 bullet jambs thanks.
@David Faria Agreed, even the thumb shelved ones don't feel quite right.
Can you share any new California compliant options for 2020....has it changed at all?
Hello, this is still good in 2020 in the State of California. Just remember "fixed magazine" means limited to 10 rounds. Even if you legally own magazines that hold 11+ rounds.
So if the magazine is locked like what is shown in this video and you have a magazine holding 11+ rounds, it magically turns this into an "assault weapon"
Another option is "featureless"
with this you get a standard magazine release/catch, but you cannot have any 1 of the offending features like,
flash hider/supressor, forward pistol grip, pistol grip or and adjustble/collapsible or folding stock.
these are the 2 ways to legally own an ar15 style weapon in California.
PS: If you legally own magazines with more than 10 rounds, you can use them in a featureless rifle as no law on the books against using these legally acquired magazines on weapons not considered "assault weapons" or "fixed magazine"
if you have any other questions, let me know.
@@toamaiusdvignir9468 Awesome, thanks for this! :)
Since is mag fix. Can you use 30 end mag?
Send complete rifle as a "Featureless Rifle"
Must be 30" over all length, No Flash Hider, No Forward Pistol Grip,
No Pistol Grip, Fixed Stock. and a 10 round magazine.
Send a complete rifle as a "Fixed Magazine"
Must be 30 inches overall length. have a "Fixed Magazine" and a 10 round magazine.
I like your pin on AR 15 on which site you bought it ?
Can you please post the parts list, makers and model numbers for these modifications. Thank you.
Lower is a Anderson Manufacturing Ghost Lower(just means no logos or branding, just serial number)
I that lower is a DPMS lower parts kit less Fire Control Group(FGC). That FGC is a ALG Defense ACT Trigger. Buffer is a PSA Mil-Spec Buffe Tube with a H2 buffer. Stock is a FAB Defense GL-Mag. The magazines used in this video are FAB Defense Ultimags coulpled with FAB Defense OMC, (Opposite Magazine Coupler)
Any other question, don't hesitate to ask.
Otherwise it is an "assault weapon"
Here is a link for info on sbr/sbs
www.guntrustlawyer.com/amp/california-ca-what-nfa-firearm/
Does the upper open all the way with the juggernaut or is that it, just enough to to drop the mag
Not sure I understand your question. The rear takedown pin has 2 positions, one cracks the receivers for reloading, other allows for full disassembly of the receivers. I hope this helps.
Can you not have a standard bolt catch without having the Hogue Freedom Fighter?
No, the Juggernaut Tactical magazine catch replaces your standard ping pong paddle.
Where do you purchase the reverse push button to release the mag? I need one for my m&p
I’m new to guns and I live in California and as long as I have a fixed magazine I can have all the features just as yours and it’s compliant?
Also with the Hogue Freedom fighter combined with the AR Maglock King Pin
it is even faster to change your mag than it used to be with a bullet button.
This setup is faster than BB, BB was slow. This setup is fun, and fast. however Freedom Week changed everything.
I am sure you figured it out, sorry I missed this message. If you need any help or have any questions, please feel free.
My choice for free float handguard depends on barrel length, for 16-18 I like a 13.5 or 15.5"
Hope this answered all your questions, thanks for watching.
Thanks but you should put links to all products in your description
Putting links in video description is against the current RUclips anti gun policies.
You cannot do better for the money than,
Anderson Manufacturing, that is what my lowers foundation is.
About to turn 21 and want an exact set up like this! What's the brand of the rifle and the scope?
Hello, you can buy one just like this from a gun store, but you can buy a receiver and build your own cheaper. The upper at the time was a complete Palmetto State Armory 5.56 upper, lower is a custom Anderson MFG no logo lower with custom trigger group. Compliance parts is Hogue Freedom Fighter and Juggernaut Tactical Hell Fighter Rear Pin.
How do you disassemble ? I have pretty much this same build with the button to crack open the upper receiver
I am sorry, not sure I understand. How do you remove it? Or how do you take take off the upper from lower?
Any chance you might list all the parts here? Looks awesome... I’d love to build something like this!
Hi there, thanks for watching and taking time to comment.
Lower Receiver: Anderson Manufacturing Ghost(No Logos just serial number and model) AM-15 Multi-Cal.
Lower Parts Kit: Palmetto State Armory Enhanced Magpul(MOE Trigger Guard and Grip) Lower Parts Kit less the Fire Control Group.
Fire Control Group: ALG Defense ACT Trigger.
Lower Receiver Extension/Buffer Tube: Palmetto State Armory Mil-Spec Carbine 5 Position Tube.(Gold Standard weight tube plunger and carbine spring)

Compliant Components. Hogue Freedom Fighter/Juggernaut Tactical Hellfighter Mod Kit.
I hope this helps.
Thanks for the info new gun owner still learning. Thanks for the info! So as long as I have that Mag lock I can have a forward grip on it?
Sorry for late reply, doesn't meet the criteria of an "Assault Weapon" and it's setup as a "Fixed Magazine" you can do anything you want, except making it an "Short Barreled Rifle" other thing is over all length when fully collapsed which is 26".
Reads like this,
"The owner should not shorten a rifle barrel below 16” or the overall length under 26” (Penal Code 33210 and Penal Code 17170). The owner should not shorten a shotgun barrel below 18” or the overall length under 26” (Penal Code § 33210 and Penal Code § 17180)."
Can you list all the features you purchased for this beauty?
The coupled magazines are also by FAB Defense, x2 10 round Ultimags coupled using FAB Defense OMC
The fixed magazine is the Hogue Freedom Fighter paired with the Juggernaut Tactical Hellfighter Mod Kit rear takedown pin.
Hey are those magqzines with couplers legal in california? Thanks
Can you add a link to the description for the parts/part number/supplier you purchased it from?
Or just say you don't have weapons in the car.
Hello, I like this setup, especially the buttstock, the mag release plus the button you push to open the upper receiver? what are their makers? thanks
Where did you ourchase the juggenaut pin assembly?
I can't I recommend anywhere in particular, but I did see it goes on sale frequently at Turner's.
What about the pistol grip? I don't see the plastic thing on it. Is there a way to avoid that?
I thought the juggernaut kit came with the internal kit to inhibit the mag release while the rifle is closed. Did you very try the patriot pin?
Juggernaut Tactical, uses a bolt catch style mechanism that replaces your ping pong paddle, it requires special magazines or you to modify your existing ones. You also won't have last round bolt hold open.
What about AK47 is it have the same problem with magazine and rounds too in California????🙁😞
If it has a pistol grip, yes. Sporting stocks like a Mini-14 or any hunting rifle, you are okay.
Toamaius D'Vignir what about magazine??? Is it 30 round??
@@KorgBasharwahbePaxpaMG No, even if your rifle has a fixed magazine, it can only have 10 round capacity. Magazine pictured is x2 Ultimags coupled with OMC (Opposite Magazine Coupler) weighs the same as a fully loaded 30 round magazine and fits in standard magazine pouches. It allows for quick magazine changes.
I just purchased a Ddm4v7 CA compliant, do I have to buy a ar maglock to go with the pin? Or can I just get the pin by itself and would it function with the maglock that come with the ar?
What Fixed Magazine option came with your gun?
How much did this set up cost you ? Where did you purchase from ?
Is this method still legal. Fixed mag in any way really is what I would prefer.
So this is 2020 and the video was made nearly 2 yrs ago
Are these mods still applicable?
How did you keep you bolt release kit doesn’t come with one of those????
I own a Socom 16 and love it, but I'm a n00b to the AR platform
I came across your vid and its a great start for research material
I to also live behind enemy lines in Cali, thanks for the vid!
Hoag Freedom? What rear stock is that? Per all videos i see, you dont need special mags for Jag kit?.?.?.
You need special mags or make modifications to your mags if you use the bolt catch style magazine locking device that comes with the Juggernaut Tactical Hellfighter Mod kit.
The Hogue Freedomfighter lets you keep a standard magazine bolt catch.
Toamaius D'Vignir what adj stock is that?
@@steveereeno2869 FAB Defense GL-Mag only stock I use on any of my AR's. On my to include my featureless setup, I use Strike Industries Stock Stop to lock it.
Can't beat having and extra 10 rounds and still be this low profile.
Toamaius D'Vignir Thank you sir. And yes......do like the stock with the extra 10 rnd mag holder. 👍
@@steveereeno2869 No problem, also available for AK variants.
Is the OMC double 10-round magazine in your video CA compliant and we can start using it here in CA?
Its x2 10 round mags coupled using OMC(Opposite Magazine Coupler) by FAB Defense. This is perfectly legal in a fixed magazine rifle because you can't shoot more than 10 rounds from each magazine without reloading.
When you installed the Juggernaut Hellfighter, did you just install the rear takedown pin? Or did you install the small kit for the mag lock too?
Only the Rear Takedown Pin. My rifle has a standard ping pong paddle bolt catch/release. It also uses Hogue Freedom Fighter instead of the Juggernaut Tactical kits solution.
@@toamaiusdvignir9468 So if I leave my Factory mag release and bolt catch, the juggernaut rear take down pin should work?
@@arutunbournazyan3751 Don't forget Hogue Freedom Fighter.
How about seeing the internal modifications?
Hands down most dope CA complaint AR I have seen. Going to start my build soon, wish me luck.
Good luck.
looking at the site now! probably going to buy the rest of my build before the end of the night!
@@mau5islife Yeah killer deals, like I said, if your build is standard 5.56/.223
That .223 Wylde complete upper for 299.99 shipped just cannot be beat.
