    1st comment I have ever written...
    My buddy & I had the dream opportunity to fish w/ Matt a few years ago on Clearlake in February... Matt put us on nothing but giant bass all day! We didn’t catch a ton of fish but the fish we caught were giants!! We both caught our pb & then caught our next pb!! No fish was under 6lbs. It was as if Matt had called up the fish the night before & told them where to be & what time to be there! (Ha) My buddy & I both learned more about bass fishing that day than we had in all the years we had been fishing! Matt didn’t even pick up a rod until we badgered him into it late in the afternoon, and he took one cast, hooked about a 5-6 pound bass, landed it, & put the rod down! I can’t say enough good things about that experience!!! Thanks Matt!! You Totally Rock!

Even for those of us that have been doing it for sometime, I find Matt offered up some things I did not know, so Thanks Matt. I wanted to say Matt, you are completely right about pumping the rod causing you to lose fish. I went through almost a months worth of losing some of the biggest fish I’ve ever hooked before I narrowed it down to me pumping the rod like I was trying to land a blue marlin. That little bit of slack is all they need most of the time. I lost another monster on a jig by pausing to admire the fact that my rod was bent almost in half and the line got just enough slack in it that the fish just walked right out of the hook. Hard lessons to learn but wisdom gained.....

    • @stevevoelker2733
      @stevevoelker2733 5 лет назад +1

      Bill Dance pumps the rod on every fish.....we don't see the losses but he never NOT pumps the rod. I can't make sense of it.

    • @whiskeygordon2452
      @whiskeygordon2452 5 лет назад

      Steve Voelker I’ve never watched him fish but I know my hookup to land ratio evened out when I stopped doing it. I guess if you had the hook pinned completely through the lip it’s ok to do it but a lot of big fish like he said will get the hook right in the roof of their mouth and I lose them when I pump my rod because of all the slack I put in the line when I let off the fish.

      Tadd Bednar just moved to Texas. Fished Lewisville lake with some good success, stripers and large mouth. Lake Grapevine with minimal success and will be hitting Ray Roberts here in next couple of weeks. Where is best place to put our boat in? Any recommendations on where to go on the lake and baits that work best for this time of year?

    • @taddbednar9957
      @taddbednar9957 5 лет назад

      @@chanceofalifetime I put in at Isle Du Bois. Has two courtesy docks, bathrooms, and a fish cleaning station. The lake is a State Park so entry at any location is I think $7 for the day. I have a year pass which I think was $70. Head Northeast on the water and hit the main lake points leading to each of the creek channels. Most of them are rocky and border the deeper channels. It's pretty safe boating on big water until you start approaching Wolf Island as long as you follow the main river channel. Past the island as you approach the three larger creek channels to the far North it can be treacherous if you don't know where you're going so be safe out there. Also, it gets windier out there than on Lewisville and the waves get bigger, plus you pretty much have to drive on big open water to get to the main creek channels so be aware of that before you go. You should be able to get some on square bills and lipless cranks off the rocky points. In the creeks around timber probably still get bit on plastic swim baits like a Keitech Texas rigged or under spin swim head or spinner bait. If those are all slow you can always go to a jig or Texas rigged worms. The water is the same color as Lewisville, stained. No stripers in the lake but if you find a school of sandies you can catch em all day just bouncing a chartreuse slab. Good luck!

    There's 2 fish over 16 lbs in my local 300 acre reservoir. I think this technique in winter is the best and maybe the only way to get one to bite a lure.
    I've been successful creeping big swimbaits in cold water before and it's thanks to TB for emphasizing how slow to turn the handle (4-5 mins to retrieve a cast) My biggest fish came on a day it was sleeting and 28 degrees.

    Oh Man when you explained the giant bite and the little tick I got sick at my stomach. Soon as it came out of your mouth I thought back to November 9th (just a few days ago) and literally got sick. I know this sounds crazy but after a few seconds I am liking this sick feeling cause now I know and I know if I can do it once I can do it again and get all the slack up this time. I love your videos. I dont fish the same kind of waters you do or for the same size fish you fish for cause here in WV they dont get that big as often. Dont get me wrong I am always looking for the once in a lifetime fish here but the way and the waters I fish are very different but I cant count the help I have got from you guys. I got out of fishing in 2004 cause of my father figure passing and got back into it this year and your videos have helped me be way way ahead of where I would be if I had never watched any of your videos. Love to see more river and small mouth or spotted bass videos. Thanks a million.

    I hear those jetski's have rod holders in Ca. lol. Hey congrats on saving a video in spite of the background issues. Even with my headphones on - the sound balance, bass, engine and other noises are all within reason - an accomplishment no doubt even if others dont realize it.... as usual everything sets the bar.

    4 years later. Relevant. Just bought a Dobyns 806 Mag heavy with Tranx 400, and ordered my first Huddelston. I'm pumped for winter. Gonne be a challenge to find them. My first true winter effort.

    legitimate bucket list wish to get out on a boat with you or both of you guys! cant count how many tips ive taken from you guys, whether its techniques i currently use or not. like this video, for example. i do not mess with big swimbaits because i do not have the gear for it. max i have been using is the 4.8 keitech swing impacts but i am very intrigued by big swimbait fishing. great vid as usual!

    I say, if you want to use a stinger, buy Defiants double 5/0 hook set-up. They work really well. I've hooked fish on that rear hook only and especially with the line through, they work very well!

    You guys should do some ice fishing vids. Looks like were going to be on hard water soon in the midwest.

    Phenomenal video. I’m not sure if I’ll ever catch a fish on one of these baits, but I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I guess I’ll dig out my fury 795sb rod, s waver and trash fish and give it a shot.
