The railway Canon mission with red eye is so deep mechanics wise, even after Hours of gameplay i was still finding out that if the canon was straight you can use the crane to auto load, or the pumps to istantly turn it 90° and all the different amo types. Plus i noticed that on harder difficulties ai teamates are more competant, when your on the fireing seat they will run to get ammo and load the gun for you
this is the problem I sort of have with the game. there's lots of hidden mechanics that had people known about them, they would've stayed in spite of all the hit stop stuff. there's so many hidden features that make the game way smoother that had reviewers known about this game would've had way more success and I'm sure it would've been just as fun. for instance, you can negate grenade damage with a timed roll based on how many times the grenade flashes it's light. you can move quicker somehow with the grappling hook if you time it right or something like that, allowing you to skip the slow jump animation at the end of a grapple.
@@abointedtoyblingofmats yes, there are a lot of tip bits like that, like rolling constantly and sprinting are the same speed, and when you roll you take less damage over all and you don't get hit stop, making rolling to get out of enemy fire very advantageous, also, just in the fight with red eye, did you know that there is also a mini canon on the back that shoots heavy rocked luncher shells? also back there is a helicopter too, there are a lot of things to use and do, making the game very very replayable.
It's actually annoying how they do that, for me. The autoload ammunition, is actually a lot better than the ammo you find lying around. But they only load the ammo that can be found lying around. So i often play this with only one real friend. Or no friends at all, not even the AI allies. On hard. I like that boss, so much, that i make the difficulty harder, just to be able to fight it longer.
@@joster09 yeah, but those two don't really do much at all to the red eye, unless it's on easy difficulty. But i highly recommend playing it on hard. Maybe not extreme/insane, but hard difficulty makes the fight last longer, so the fun lasts longer.

The T-ENG does tick down, it's due to a couple of abilities you start with where you don't die from a lack of energy and it doesn't tick down energy. Also depending on the difficulty it does Regen you automatically, varying on the difficulty levels, easy it Regens a similar way to the first game, normal is, well, normal, hard is slow, and in extreme, which you access by beating hard, it doesn't Regen at all. Otherwise I like the video, well done, I'll be looking forward to future videos.
That's really interesting, thank you for sharing! Keeping it like the first game for easy is a really good choice, but the fact that I never noticed is decreasing passively on normal makes me feel like the 'normal' is a little bit too easy. Still, it's fascinating how many (slightly) hidden mechanics these games have!
@@Tomkon agreed! Stuff like combining certain VSs into an even more powerful one, super attacks from the support weapons, stuff like that. The biggest thing for me that kept me playing for months on end was the side grades to guns you unlock through that crate system. It might just be a shotgun that shoots confetti but it could be an energy shotgun that bounces. tired of disc grenades' what about shuriken's that pierce. Best part about it was they went between multiplayer pvp and the campaign. This made me want to go grind out some levels as they were extremely good for crate unlocks.
it was on the steam sale because of the re 8 showcase, so i got it again and have been playing with my friends always thought, it needed 8 chapter not six and always thought you would have level with the snow pirate and femme fatales.. i do miss the multiplayer.
4:55 A passive causes that, by default you have one that prevents energy drain and one that prevents health loss when at 0 energy equipped, but the first one is a VERY powerful passive if paired with the first VS buff passive, since it makes Piloting a VS practically free, and only the really high-tech ones like the Triseed or Hardballer will have any sort of passive Energy drain, and even then you gain way more Energy then you will be losing (in the Triseed and actively changing modes, swinging melee and firing torpedos I lost maybe 1-3 energy passively over 15 seconds and around 12 from the abilities since everything only costs 1 energy with that perk setup for some reason), and it even lets you use energy weapons on a VS with almost no downside, since your only spending the energy for the weapon in reality. The perk system has crazy power and potential for something as easy to use as a colouring book, could have used a bit more variety in perk choices, but it works very well, the game is also appares to still playable online if your on Xbox at least.

Disagree with a fair few points of your review although a few of them are due to ignorance. So there's multiple paths and ways to complete missions sometimes hidden within the levels themselves or unlocked via having multiple players in the game (alternate intro mission with 3+ players in your game for example) theres a boss rush gauntlet like the first game encouraging a lot of replayability, and there's multiple pathways in the final mission with multiple factions and different variations of akrid. Finally I found someone talk about my favorite SF game besides MH, I may played with some of you guys before, I was there. PVP was so much fun, better than COD by miles in my book.
lost planet 2 had so much to it's favor at the time, not innovative by any means, but to have so many features in 2009? character customization, full coop, emotes, good gameplay, a surprisingly deep but simple inventory system, big monsters, cover shooter, many different environments, big ass mechasuits, big ass weapons to go with them that you can use on foot, and most important of all, it gives you that feeling of being a bad ass, even when you are just a dude with almost the same capabilities of every other enemy. it also is one of the best examples of external sandbox mixed with internal sandbox out there.
Realise I'm posting on a vid that's been out over a year, but honestly I absolutely adored this game when it came out and it was one of the few I legitimately 100% completed. Tried to get back into it recently on pc but really miss having the gunsword unlocked. I can kinda see why they limited character customisation on the first playthrough but it really was one of the best parts of this game. The more serious cutscenes turn ridiculous when the cast of stock humourless special agents has been replaced by an obese man wearing a lego head, a walking talking data post, an insect man with a gun that shoots hearts, and Frank West carrying his teddybear.
This game had so much potential. I really hope that Capcom brings it back and gives it an RE treatment. Maybe, Dead Space could return the favor and influence them for a remake.
It's a shame you couldn't review the multiplayer. Back when it was big on the xbox 360, it was legitimately competitive and provided a multiplayer experience entirely unique to any shooter at the time. Getting that back would be a dream.
So.....I have decided to replay the Lost Planet 2 and just beat it today.......and.....well....its a bit better then last time, but there are some issues. For one thing I manage to playthrough most of the Levels without any issues, there were some setbacks (more on that in a bit), but even then, I was able to breeze though the levels. There was also the part where I had a much easier time beating the Red Eye boss from Episode 3, I mean yeah, the level preceding it was a pain, but it was far more manageable. Speaking of which, I also found most the bosses far more manageable, the fact that I found out about the dodge button and that some of the bosses can be cheesed does help out, but I at least know the attack patter. I manage to fine a way to enjoy some of the levels as well, make sure you have NPCs with you as they ca help out of the enemies, I mean it's not perfect (more on that in a bit), but having them with me agents the enemies make the different. On the subject of the bosses, I also found the bosses to be more enjoyable as well, sure they are a bit.......damage sponges, but I found all of them to be fun, with my favorite being the Queen and the Cat G. Despite all of that however.....I still have some cons with this game, the A.I Companions can still dilly dally, Episode 3 levels was annoying, the last two bosses are still a massive pain in the ass and some of the enemy A.I. are just as poorly annoying and bullshit as they are the first time I fought, and no matter how much I restart that level, they always (and I mean ALWAYS) find ways to cheap me. So yeah, while a much better experience then the last time I played it, I can safely say that Lost Planet 2 is a mix-bag game for me and I'm gonna say it, while I will say that did have a good time with it and would play tis overt Day's Gone by a LARGE margin .....I think I'm probably going to be sticking with the Metroid Prime/Halo series.
I’m ngl man watching this video I thought you were a bigger youtuber than you are, like the content was just that professional, keep up the great work I loved revisiting one of my favorite games
There’s one detail I think u missed, it that at episode 6, 4th part, the vagabondo side, when you shoot the laser cannon, once you get back to your original character, the cannon follows where you aimed so that’s a good detail not much games even have
It is more difficult than it should be, but it's definitely not impossible! You'll have to download and install the Games for Windows Live program separately to get it to work. You can find and download this through google searching, but since the service has been discontinued for several years it can react strangely and cause the problems you've probably heard about. There's a good guide explaining all the steps and potential problems here (I used this guide to get it working for me): steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1277648786 I hope this helps! If you buy from Steam and can't get these fixes working, remember you can request a refund within two weeks of purchase and as long as you haven't had the game running for longer than two hours.
@@Tomkon sorry to interrupt but you forgot one thing. if you have a pc like a gaming type Running more than 4 Processor Cores. you have to reduce the amount of processor cores running in the pc by going into the bios or pc/system configuration. I had something similar, but managed to get past it by creating a local (offline) gfwl account. I used these instructions: When the "Games for Windows Live" menu appears, click on Create Profile In the next menu scroll to the bottom of the page, there should be a small link (in blue): Create a local profile Click on it and in the next screen (Offline gamer Profile) enter a Username and click on the OK button You might have already tried this, but if not it might be worth giving it a go!
How are the controls compared to the first game? I remember hearing great things about this series so I picked it up a few years ago. I tried playing the first game but the controls were horrendous. Is it better than the first game?
Yeah, I can honestly say that I didn't find the first one compelling. The 2nd one remains one of my favorites games of that era, and technically, MT Framework's best product. It still looks great on consoles, while the PC version needs some TLC to run.
i really despise fucking metacritic for give this game a low score, like jesus they got Capcom to just out source lp3 to some third grade studio all cause people give a shit what review sites think
If at least it got a small upgrade I would resume to it. Replay it. It's an underrated game. The reason why I don't play it is because it crashes. Lost planet franchise needs a boost. Except the 3rd one I didn't like the 3rd one much.
i would love to play it but capcom has just been sitting on their ass and wont fix it for steam so I don't know where to get it and be able to play multiplayer.

(though a lot of the set pieces can be a bit of a pain lol)
I myself have only played this game singleplayer when it came out and now for various reasons and always had a good time. Though there are a few points on the game where I go "ah damn if I had friends to play with I could do this cool thing" even so its still a good time.
@@cobra29935the train is the one I’m thinking of most- having humans to get the shells would make things much easier. I definitely had a blast playing it
Finally I found someone talk about my favorite SF game besides MH, I may played with some of you guys before, I was there. PVP was so much fun, better than COD by miles in my book.
i loved customizing the characters and what weapon you'd find on the ground
lost planet 2 had so much to it's favor at the time, not innovative by any means, but to have so many features in 2009? character customization, full coop, emotes, good gameplay, a surprisingly deep but simple inventory system, big monsters, cover shooter, many different environments, big ass mechasuits, big ass weapons to go with them that you can use on foot, and most important of all, it gives you that feeling of being a bad ass, even when you are just a dude with almost the same capabilities of every other enemy. it also is one of the best examples of external sandbox mixed with internal sandbox out there.
This game will always be in my top 10. I have 400%'d it on 360 and twice on PS3. I still find new nooks and items hidden. I love this game
This game had so much potential. I really hope that Capcom brings it back and gives it an RE treatment. Maybe, Dead Space could return the favor and influence them for a remake.
I played the whole game in solo due to how I got the game back then, and it is fking fun, still one of my favorite fun arcade shooter game
It's a shame you couldn't review the multiplayer. Back when it was big on the xbox 360, it was legitimately competitive and provided a multiplayer experience entirely unique to any shooter at the time. Getting that back would be a dream.
Capcom should do a lost planet monster hunter like
Miss my boy dear spring 😓
You can actually grab T-eng with your grappling hook in this game
I loved this game. Even finished it on the hardest difficulty.
I remember this was one of 2 or 3 games I could get my dad to play with me, good times
I love this game, played it so much years and years ago
There’s one detail I think u missed, it that at episode 6, 4th part, the vagabondo side, when you shoot the laser cannon, once you get back to your original character, the cannon follows where you aimed so that’s a good detail not much games even have
The vagabundos are some of my favorite missions just for the comedy relief
Still playing it to this day👌
the thermal energy being depleted over time wasn't dropped its part of the perk system they added to the character customization.
I absolutley love this game I have so many good memories.
Can I ask you how were you able to play this game on a modern PC?
People say it's very difficult to make it run.
It is more difficult than it should be, but it's definitely not impossible!
You'll have to download and install the Games for Windows Live program separately to get it to work. You can find and download this through google searching, but since the service has been discontinued for several years it can react strangely and cause the problems you've probably heard about.
There's a good guide explaining all the steps and potential problems here (I used this guide to get it working for me): steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1277648786
I hope this helps! If you buy from Steam and can't get these fixes working, remember you can request a refund within two weeks of purchase and as long as you haven't had the game running for longer than two hours.
@@Tomkon thanks!
@@Tomkon sorry to interrupt but you forgot one thing. if you have a pc like a gaming type Running more than 4 Processor Cores. you have to reduce the amount of processor cores running in the pc by going into the bios or pc/system configuration.
When you see the option of how much processor cores your pc is running, you can change it to 4 so like that, you can play lp2 I Hope this also helps :)
Wow don't let my kid self know about how this game died and the Lost Planet 3 that I imagined was a shitshow I literally thought this was going to be like the new Halo when I was a kid
One of the best games I’ve played in my life
My first Xbox 360 game. It was so much fun multiplayer
I'd love to play it on pc but its broken. I've tried following tutorials on getting it playable but I get stuck in a signing in loop for gfwl.
I had something similar, but managed to get past it by creating a local (offline) gfwl account. I used these instructions:
When the "Games for Windows Live" menu appears, click on Create Profile
In the next menu scroll to the bottom of the page, there should be a small link (in blue): Create a local profile
Click on it and in the next screen (Offline gamer Profile) enter a Username and click on the OK button
You might have already tried this, but if not it might be worth giving it a go!
COLONIES AND LOST PLANET 1 WAS MY FAV
Very nice review. Good job.
This game is super fun 😁
I got this game on sale at gamestop for the ps3. I wish i could play it on my ps5
Yap I agree this game could be remastered. on the PS 4 ps5
How are the controls compared to the first game? I remember hearing great things about this series so I picked it up a few years ago. I tried playing the first game but the controls were horrendous. Is it better than the first game?
It's largely the same with some additions to make it less tiresome. It's just how Capcom makes their games I swear
My childhood
Underrated to the bone.
Great review.. But you should have not spoilered it all ;)!
I want to go back...
Man I miss this game
How can i get this game? i don't see it anywhere, any longer.
Steam ebay should still be on psn and xbox marketplace (or what ever its called)
This is one of the only mech games i like lol it was so fun playing with my brother
If at least it got a small upgrade I would resume to it. Replay it. It's an underrated game. The reason why I don't play it is because it crashes. Lost planet franchise needs a boost. Except the 3rd one I didn't like the 3rd one much.
Unfortunately i cant play co op cause no one plays on ps3 anymore
Lost plant 2 deserves a remake frrr
I played and beat the game when I was 11 solo lol.
If only I could play it without any issue on steam
I dint know you cpuld combine vs that is amazing sadly i play by myself
such a good game❤️
i would love to play it but capcom has just been sitting on their ass and wont fix it for steam so I don't know where to get it and be able to play multiplayer.
0:51 *Sad Joe noises*
Uuh... one question. In this game you never die? I keep respawning everytime. Will it get more difficult? 🤔
You will respawn but if you die too many times ( energy gauge runs out) then you will fail and will have to start over, it’s not too much of an problem unless your playing on harder difficulty’s though
Loved playing this on my ps 3 😂
I really hate that games for windows lives ruins the PC experience for that game on pc.
