@@devosoap it is a love story. Not every love is a romantic love. They clearly care about each other deeply. So get off of your homophobic bull and understand love comes in several different ways. Some people are going to see it as a romantic love story because it is something they have experienced with another person and can relate to that. Some people are going to see it as a platonic love story because that's how they've experienced a deep relationship with someone. Some people are going to see it as it being a soulmate that is hard to break away from and that's the love that they have experienced. I pity you that you've never experienced love enough to understand the different shapes that it comes in, but this is a love story. Period.

the director should have added a kiss and a hug at least. homosexuality/bisexual was commonplace in ancient Rome and Greece. It was considered an honor for a man and younger man to spend time together and be intimate and a high percentage of men practiced this relationship. society began to expect men to take this role to show their influence and sexual prowess.
Yeah.. But all that stuff between men, wasn't viewed or really treated the way modern day society does... Like the love between these two guys, would be something considered "ideal" in that era. They of course would not marry each other, and when intimate... There would be no anal sex what so ever- that was considered shameful, and something only done to slave boys, prostitutes, and defeated enemies.. You didn't do that to someone you truly loved, respected, and honor.

I was talking about how male/male relationships were viewed in ancient times, which differs from how our modern society views them, especially mainstream gay culture... When I first saw this movie,my attitude was indifferent. This video greatly opened up my eyes. This music,the editing,the acting,y the photography make this one of the greatest videos I have experienced. Thank you for your creativity. I will watch it many times more--just for itself.

I know the power and intensity of such love. I have experienced. Oh, there are those who will shame me for speaking out about such matters. "Judge ye not, lest ye be judged." The bond of love between two men is one of the most profound expressions of unity and love one can write about, speak about and experience. It has taken me decades to speak so openly and honestly about that which is at the very core of my being: loving another man and consummating in the most powerful and intimate ways imaginable.

I watched the movie for the very first time in 2021 and I only noticed something between the 2 characters in the very end.
Its a great movie with an amazing soundtrack, text and content. I truly recommend The Eagle.
I dont want to ruin the movie for you but you should watch it again and you can see for yourself it all falls into place a lot earlier than you thought...maybe watch it by yourself,or someone very close to you but without making comments about the movie until its over...Enjoy.. Its a Great Movie...

The Eagle is a wonderful movie! I highly suggest watching it.
One of the best stories I've ever seen.
The Eagle is one of the greatest male love stories ever committed to film. It’s also a great adventure story with fabulous Scottish scenery, but it’s the amazing love between two men that makes it truly memorable.
This cut as a "Love Story" makes perfect sense, although the film stands on its own and is one of my favorites. This was a grand montage of some of the best moments with two of my favorite actors. Thanks!

The relationship between these two good looking men was by far the best thing in that rather heavy, macho film.

Beautiful song and a movie that i liked. I get that people read different things from something they see or hear. Personally i saw it as a brotherly type relationship. I've just discovered The Irrepressibles and need to hear more than the few songs i've heard
well it was released during Valentine's Day and from the studio that brought us Brokeback Mountain...
Having said that the relationship in the book is platonic, but the movie leaves it ambiguous although leaning on the romantic side starting with when Marcus saving Esca's life for no reason other than love at first sight, with his gay uncle knowing that instantly and with all the sexual tension during their journey...and both my female best friend and I lol'ed during those moments.
even if this is not the kind of stuff that I prefer, I enjoyed watching this movie. like they are honest and I think they are just starting to know the thing between their selves.

No need for sexual scenes; an hug or another physical form of non-sexual intimacy would have perfectly done the trick. It's such a common trope to stand in the line of "well, they can be friends, even if they clearly are not for us, but it's your turn to interpret it in that way so that however you read it we are anyway safe".
it's a hussshh ( men love story). I enjoyed very much the movie, and I agree with some upper comments, a little more intimacy would be great !

Love can be many kind, I can kiss on cheeks or head of may mates or even spoon them but I don't go out and kiss them on lips that is reserve for different kind of mates 😉 and not necessarily we would end up having sex after French kissing. Very homoerotic. One might think it's just another buddy flick until Bell rescues Tatum and the latter says (I may paraphrase) "I thought I'd lost you."
Also, I'm very interested in Roman Britain, so this film was in many ways (um) up my alley...

Any movie with Jamie Bell in it is worth seeing. I've seen the movie and there is a fair amount of sexual tension between the two characters but the same could be said for "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" which is clearly not a gay movie.
It could be argued that there is a lot of gay subtext in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. It does not have to be explicit or spelled out, or even put there consciously by the writers. That is the nature of subtext.

The movie 'The Eagle' is not at all a gay movie by any stretch of the imagination. Yes, it does depict two (fantastically good looking) guys finally becoming best friends after successfully enduring trials together that serve to slowly build and cement their mutual trust, until they became really close. So many adult men do not have a best friend. And I find it sad that this movie is not rather used to highlight that it is possivble for men to find a best friend.
Peter Hulley men have learned that showing any love or emotion towards another man makes you a homosexual or weak and this is so sad.
I recently found the book on which the movie is based. The book describes how Marcus became interested in a guest, a young woman, staying with a neighbour to Uncle Aquila. Before Marcus and Esca leave on their epic journey to the north, Marcus has to woman promise to regularly check on his pet wolf, as a way of ensuring she will still be there waiting for his return.
While I found the movie to be really good, I have enjoyed reading and noting the aspects of the story not included in the movie.

Damn the soundtrack really matching to the movies, so much captivated me to watch the movie.
These scene cuts are a great representation of how many closet bisexuals guys behave. They like the endorphin rush they get with this secret flirtation that they do with one another and the acknowledgement that they're sharing the same secret. Defensive and homophobic around gay guys, won't joke around or get too close, but so called "accepting", then being almost overly open, connected and flirtatious around someone who's like them. On another note, I would love to see a remake of Brokeback Mountain with these two guys. Including frontal nudity now that it's more acceptable for male actors.

When I watched years ago it gave me that vibe subtle that something was there, If this movie was made today they would have had an attraction, it was Roman times after all and that was normal behaviour between young men back then.
This movie was made "today" and it depicts modern understandings, not those people had 2000 years ago of which we can't know.

It's worth pointing out that in the same cultures, women were largely considered property and inferior: unworthy of a proper intellectual and sexual partnership. You didn't love women as equals. You could only love a fellow man as an equal. Ironically homosexual relations were an expression of conservative patrician values and male bonding that excluded and denigrated women. But the conservative Greek or Roman man HAD to get married and propagate, as a responsibility to his family. So to fuck men was conservative and to marry women was also conservative.
