I knew Marty started young, but to be playing with Lester Flatt at 14 is just insane. Marty is still making great music and every time I see him I appreciate that he is a link to some of the true legends of country music.
I saw Marty play the mandolin and sing not long ago and he could still bring a crowd to their feet. He is one of the most skilled and talented country music artists of all time. And a finer man you will never meet.
I had no idea Marty Stewart could throw down at this young age . My gosh no wonder he is so wonderful 😍 I knew Marty was extremely talented but my goodness not at this age ..Wonderful Marty I have always loved you and you are just know words to describe how great you really are . To throw down that great at 14 I just can't get over how amazing Marty really is .♥️♥️
I was extremely proud to have had Charlie Nixon and his lovely wife stay in my motel in the north Georgia mountains a few years ago. My mother had a Dobro that she played as a young girl. I ask Charlie if he would play it for us, and he gladly spend 3 hours in our living room, playing some of the best sounds I had ever heard, what a treasure trove of memories. I hope he is still around today, and wish I could here him play once more. Thanks for those treasured hours.
I worked in downtown Nashville for many years. One day on my lunch break, I walked into a flower shop to buy some roses, and there was Marty Stuart doing the same thing. He was so handsome! I just stopped and gawked at him. He just smiled. 😊
Lester Flatt is one of the all-time greatest singers from any genre of music. Nobody but nobody could sing a story like Lester. He could have the entire audience hanging on his every word! Incredible!
I can remember being a boy in the 70s in Gordon Alabama...about 20 miles south of Dothan Alabama. These old shows bring back so many great memories of my grandparents home. My grandma would have us all over...my uncles, aunts, cousins, & family neighbors...Grandma would always have a big Southern Alabama country supper cooked on a Saturday night & we would sit around her big dining table & eat...then everyone would go to the livingroom & watch Hee-Haw & the show that came on before Hee-Haw which if I remember correctly was The Porter Wagoner Show. Then everyone would eat a dessert homemade cake or pie my WONDERFUL GRANDMOTHER would bake. FOLKS...THESE ARE REAL MEMORIES OF REAL PEOPLE WHO HELPED SHAPE MY LIFE FOR THE BETTER!!! Absolutely great footage. Marty was a real pro at 14 that's just incredible. One thing is absolute, nobody and I mean nobody has ever looked cooler in a cowboy hat than Lester Flatt did.
Used to just see Marty talking about other country stars in whatever documentary, didn't realise he was a hot shot musician also a right good guy to boot.
How the years have flown by. Earlier this evening I was watching Marty sing Paradise with John Prine a year or so back. All grey now but still a good picker.
Marty even had the "hair" as a kid. Without a doubt incredibly talented, who would have known at the time that he would have went on to become a Country Music super star.
It says a lot about Marty's talent that he was a mere lad, so young he sounds like a little boy, so pretty he could have passed for a girl (but for the silly haircut), but these seasoned pros invited him to play with their band, and he kept right up with them. He was remarkable even then. And he just kept on evolving into an even greater musician. Love his later songwriting, too.
I saw Lester and the boys in concert at Morehead State University in Kentucky way back in 1973. Marty had recently joined the group. Bluegrass music was big on college campuses then. Great show!!
Marty joined Lester's group at the invitational of Roland White (brother of guitarist Clarence White). Roland was Lester's mandolin player and Marty took over full-time after Roland left to work with Clarence. That's how Marty got to know Clarence and how he was able to purchase that famous B-bender. It was Clarence's widow who sold it for $1,600 (along with some other items). Marty was willing to pay whatever (even if he had to go to his mother, who worked at a bank, to get a loan), but Clarence's widow said that she knew Marty would respect and care for the guitar, and considering Marty still uses it today, she was spot on.
Oh my goodness, Marty was adorable and talented at such a young age!! I've loved him since the 90s and only knew a small bit of his history, what a great video!!
Wow cool vid. now I know where he came from and how he really shined. If I dug a little further I would learn a lot more of this star player. Thanks for the history lesson

Gotta love a good bowl to make hairhelmet. Cute as heck when he missed his que and Lester smiled or stuck out his tongue. Marty started busting up but pulled it off. Kid was a real pro.
Philadelphia, MS. Represent. Marty is bringing his collection of country music memorabilia to town. There will be a museum of sorts in the old Ellis Theatre. It will be a site to behold.
Fiddler Paul Warren was a wonderful team player - solid fiddling, back-up, breaks,kick-offs and tags, . One of the stronger stylists who set some high standards for the bluegrass fiddlers of the world.

My lord, Marty Stuart's life. If you don't know (like I didn't know) find Ken Burn's new documentary of country music. Marty Stuart is a giant, who had three goals in life and achieved them all.
Thank goodness that Marty's parents were willing to let him go off at such a young age to work with Lester Flats. Many parents would have said "NO way...Marty has school tomorrow!" They did a great & considerate thing for country music when they allowed Marty to play his music. And you were correct...amazing documentary by Ken Burns
They're playing an arrangement of "Dueling Banjos" famed from the movie "Deliverence" and usually played as a guitar/banjo duet, but Lester didn't quite have the chops to pull it off (though he was the standard for rhythm guitar). Great comment here! A year prior to this Marty stood on the Ryman stage with Lester and his band for his first official concert he performed on.

I love Marty in the Blue birds. He must screw up near the end. Lester give him the evil eye. Great video!
Lester Flatt keeps cracking up Marty Stuart. Priceless !
I always tried to figure out what exactly it was that got him so ticked
I want to go live in a time where good country shows like this were on television. I belong there.
I did grow up when these shows were broadcasted. Awesome time with amazing artists!
I did grow up in those times. Unfortunately, I hated Porter Wagoner. Oh woe is me for what I missed, including the young Dolly Parton.
Me too brother.....
It comes on RFD-TV. On Sunday morning I know for sure. I have Dish and I know it is on Direct also. Not sure about others .
I think that exact same thing all the time.
There is no music that is better than authentic mountain bluegrass!
This is an amazing clip of Marty Stuart at an insane young age playing with a legend. It was clear Marty was destined for greatness. Just amazing.
What a Lively footage! Lester is a giant but Marty is surely à rising star in here!
You had Marty with Lester, Young Ricky Skaggs along with Keith Whitley playing with Ralph Stanley. What a time to be festival going.
For Marty to have had such talent and stage presence at such a young age is amazing.

Hello Linda 👋 how are you ??
Marty is born to do what GOD wanted him to do. He is a very important Role in Country Music.
I really admire Marty Stewart and all of his music he performs with his great Band.
14 yo playing in the band of one of the greatest legends, makes my head want to explode, also shows what a humble person Lester Flatt must have been.
He also was sewing seeds for the future.
Ricky Skaggs appeared with Lester Flatt onstage when he was 7 years old. There's a B & W video on RUclips of that performance.
That 14 year old was Marty Stewart, and at that age he could play as well as anyone alongside any grown man.

I know Marty and he’s very down to Earth a wonderful human being and extremely talented 😊😊😊😊
Marty encapsulates Country Music. He's connected to the Carters, Cash, and beyond.
PBS Country Music Documentary brought me here.
Ditto. I learned a lot.
I saw Marty and the Superlatives about ten years ago at The Little Bear in CO. One of the best concerts I’ve ever seen.

I love the part where Marty Stuart cracks up at 2:34. What a great example of great American music.

One of my favorite moments. Lester's timing is deadly.
I just can't stop listening to this wonderful song.
Lester Flatt, turned me on to bluegrass as a small boy in the 60's. He will always be my favorite.
Marty is so amazing even as a kid. “there’s a bluebird singing” What a darling!❤❤❤
Wow I’m so impressed at all of them! Just perfection, and Marty so young, just a natural!

Young Marty was a confident musician even then, and what a career he has had, great to see this video!
