- When we bought a 2007 Robinson R44 Raven II the goal was to have a helicopter that could comfortably carry our family to interesting destinations. In this video, we fly our helicopter around and over the top of Morro Rock plus the nearby town of Morro Bay. What does Morro Rock look like from above? Watch and see! #MicahFlies

your life in heaven for me.miss old day in America .they never come back again in my life.
The plan to tear those stacks down soon, I live in Santa Barbara and go to Morro Bay to relax, its a very slow pace not counting the tourists on the Eembarcadero sometimes. Great Jerky shop too.
I live here it will be a few years before it gets taken down
0:56 That line of volcanic plugs are all part of the same volcanic system that created Moro Rock. They run in pretty much a straight line and developed over a magma chamber that stayed relatively stationary while the Coast Range accreted over the top of it. Moro Rock is the last volcanic plug in the sequence.
All my grandkids found and brought me special rocks. I have rocks all around my house❣️
Never knew about this landmark! Yet another thing to check out the next time we are in gorgeous Cali! Thanks Micah and family.
I visited Morro rock when I visited Socal to tour California Polytechnic in SLO. It was a short drive away and totally worth it, even Morro Bay was impressive!
Grew up going to Morro Bay. Sometimes an overnight stay at the old Keystone Motel on our way down to Disneyland, other times we camped at the State Park and played golf at the course you flew over. My buddy and I would ride our bikes from the campground out Morro Rock and fish off the jetty at the mouth of the harbor too. Ate at Dorn’s and The Hungry Tiger. Hadn’t really changed much until the last 10 years or so. Love PCH, Morro Bay, San Luis Obispo, Pismo Brach area.
What a Beautiful Day 🤙🏽⚡️🚁🚁🚁🚁🚁🚁🚁
I absolutely love Morro Bay. We have a vacation Travel Trailer there so we go several times a year.
Micah, you flew right over us. Wish I knew you all were out here. Would have been great to catch up with you guys. Love the vids. Some Heli time. Our saying here on the central coast is; "We live where you vacation."
Lovely flight. You got a beautiful California day!
Looking at the rock out my window while I watch this
Morro rock is the last in a chain of old volcanic 'sisters' that form a line down through San Luis Obispo. At 5:00 you can see the next in the chain right to the left of the rock. Love that entire area - beautiful land and always makes for a great stop
Love it. We used to hop in the outlet stream coming out of the power station to push out passes the break when we surfed the rock. Eerily warm water but it was the easiest paddle out.
You guys ROCK 🪨
😂
Cool flight dude. Morro Rock reminds me of Mugu Rock next to P.C.H. up the coast in between Malibu and Pt. Mugu.
I grew up just over the hill and spent much of my life along the coast there. I still go quite often since my family still lives there. Beautiful area.
Went there with my brother and uncle. Arrived at night and didn't see it, woke up to it visable out the front door of our motel. Beautiful.
Very nice, Micah. I lived in SLO for three years, in the 1970s, while attending Cal Poly. Drove to Morro Rock a number of times, sometimes trying to do homework there, which didn’t usually work out well. The scenery and surf were to distracting.
Ha! I'll bet. It's a gorgeous stretch of coastline.
Awesome video! Loved it!
Morro Bay was the first place I went in the US. Year 2000 I was working as a newly qualified engineer on a submarine cable ship. We were tasked to run shore ends of the main Pacific communications cables into a place called Grover Beach but we flew out to join the ship in Morro Bay and we spent a couple if weeks offshore Morro (Ship too big to enter harbour) waiting to start the job. We flew from UK to LAX then a little propeller plane up to SLO. There was a guy called Frank Love (if I remember correctly) who ran a kayak hire place and a small tug boat which he would run us in and out to the the ship to the harbour and back like a taxi so we could enjoy the sites and sounds of Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo.
I always wanted to return but haven’t made it yet. I must try harder in the next couple of years.
If I remember correctly regarding the power station. At that time (August/September 2000) there was rolling blackouts across California. When they shut down power our ship was like a beacon of light illuminating the seafront.
Another great helicopter video Micah! 👍
Thanks for watching and sharing your memories, Chris!
Nice, thank you.
Was born and raised in SLO & have been to Morro Rock more times than I can count. We now live in Colorado but will usually visit Morro Bay when we are in town. The kids love to go down the embarcadero. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for watching!
"gotta get it up, gotta get it away" - where was innuendo iguana when you needed him!
Missed opportunity!
Great spot to go, i am originally from Santa Maria Ca., been there a few times on family trips. You should fly over Guadalupe dunes. Cecil B. DeMille filmed The Ten Commandment.
Micah - love your vids. Just stayed a week in Morro Bay last month. Our favorite place to watch seals, otters and just chill out. Such a great place. Thanks for the "fly by"! Stay safe!
Thanks for the kind comment!
Great video Micah!😸
Thank you, Ryan!
I lived in Morro Bay for a few years. The round trip from my apartment to the rock was almost exactly five miles so I made the walk a couple times a week, all the way around as far as I could go to the ocean side. I loved living there except that in the summer it tended to be foggy for months (Not that I should complain about that given where I live now).
I wanted to buy a house and had to go inland to afford it, up over the hills near Paso Robles. One of these days I’ll be rich…
I moved up here from San Diego for work. When I first moved up here my boss had a vacant house in Los Osos he let me stay in for a month while I found an apartment, so I was commuting on that road you followed daily. Being a city dweller all my life I was amazed as you seeing open fields, ranches and pastures this close to both the city proper and tourist destinations such as the beach. All part of the reason I fell in love with this area and settled down. I’m glad you guys had a wonderful trip, thank you for taking us along and I’m looking forward to seeing much more of it.
We travel from San Diego to Morro Bay every year and stay in a condo right on the bay. Your video is a great view of the rock and fantastic history lesson on the area. I've been trying to find the video of Huell Howser climbing to the top of the rock with a park ranger, but can't seem to locate it. I believe it was part of his California's Gold series.
The only change we've noticed over the years is that they no longer allow you to drive and park along the south end of the rock.
It may be time for you to have a second audio recorder setup to another gopro as a backup in case. Lovely views buddy, never heard of that place.
Indeed! This video inspired me to build some redundancy into our audio setup.
Tall smoke stacks were designed to spread the pollution as far as possible. At the time they thought this was a good thing. Having never made it to California as I had always dreamed of, your videos are the next best thing.
Love these videos
Can you make a video on how you trained to fly and the steps and how much it costs
It’s awesome to see you flying around my neighborhood! I live in SLO and paddle in the bay with my family. Glad to see you had some great weather for your visit! If you’re back this way and looking for things to do, I’d be happy to set you up!
Thank you kindly, Chris! With luck we'll be back before too long.
Another great video Micah. Almost 40 yrs ago I picked up a green, tennis ball sized rock, off a beach in Gloucester, MA. Somehow I still have it. A "pet rock" that eventually became a doorstop. lol.
But did you name your rock?
@@MicahMuzio - Haha. It did not have a name-o. Like I said, "pet rock". lol
Lived in Cambria, Cayucos and Morro Bay for 20 years. We just had to move because it got so insanely more expensive in that are. Yep stacks need to be torn down soon sadly.
The food at Morro Bay is delicious.
Oh, so you went to Morrow Rock today? I thought you said you were going tomorrow (to Morro) 😁 *Insert groans here*
I bet you made a lot of people at the base of Morro Rock jealous as you were flying over its top! High Five! ✋😀
Up top! 🤚
Beautiful.. reminds me of Haystack Rock on the Oregon coast. Hi Evie! My youngest daughter makes rock friends as well and sometimes brings them home too. 😳 We have lots of friends around the house.
Hi! So good to know that our girl isn’t the only one with a bunch of rock friends at home. 👏🏻💕 How’s your supply of friend sticks? Leaves? Pinecones? 😹😹😹😹😹
@@Eviedish Oh my gosh! Lol. Yes, have a BUNCH of pine cones and leaves as well. My youngest is in middle school and brings home the most beautiful leaves she finds at school and amazingly they do not crumble in her backpack. The kids pick up pine cones as well to remember a place we visited. As far as stick friends (I almost forgot) we have had a variety of 4' long stick friends that my oldest finds when we go camping and brings home. She even names them.. The latest addition to our family is called Stickla! 🤣 🍂🍁
I used to visit Haystack rock as a kid growing up on Portland. Lovely spot!
@@lani9779 💕👏🏻So wonderful to see nature loving little ones!
@@MicahMuzio It sure is! 😊
i saw my hosue wow
the rock kind of looks like the emergence of a Celestial from MCU fame
I would love to see in your next video a fly over or around the "House of the Book" (Power Rangers Command Center) the Coordinates are 34.2566° N, 118.6948° W or the address - Peppertree Ln, Brandeis, CA 93064, USA. IT'S MORPHIN TIME.
Hi Muzio fam
Hi, Harsha!
Living in Monterey morro bay was my birthday get away
$10 says you wont land on top of it! 😏😂
Where did you land?
I live here
The first Filipinos to set foot in America land there. There's a placard at the base commemorating the event.
I didn't realize. Excellent comment!
Owen wilson 😆
Wow!
Micah. For the love of all that is good and holy. What do we need to pay you to get you new go pros.
The crazy thing is that the newest GoPros are even less reliable...at least according to fellow automotive reviews who have them. My kingdom for a camera that keeps shooting. 🤦♂️
💕🦋🌺
Are you allowed to climb it? I want to climb to the top lol
No huge fine if they catch you and the watch.
@@nationalist818 damn guess no trip to cali then lol
What? No pinnacle landing?
As they say, you can land anywhere...once.
I think it might be time too get rid of those GoPros ?
Yeah, they tend to fail at the worst times. Consequently, I've been inspired to build some redundancy into our system.
i hate the internet.....destroyed our once quiet zone
Los Osos is where I grew up and went to Morro Bay High School. That is Los Osos Valley Rd. that you are flying over. I have climbed Hollister Peak several times, the largest of the volcanic plutons(plugs) in the chain of "thirteen sisters" at 1404 ft. !en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollister_Peak
