- Michael Leonard Brecker (March 29, 1949 - January 13, 2007) was an American jazzsaxophonist and composer. He was awarded 15 Grammy Awards as both performer and composer. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Berklee College of Music in 2004 and was inducted into the Down Beat Jazz Hall of Fame in 2007.

Was there too, my first NSYF. Still remember the audience exploded with Stern’s solo on Original Rays. Magic moments.
My favourite incarnation of Michael Brecker's band and they sound absolute dynamite with Mike Stern on guitar, what an unbelievable collection of talent on stage.

Did the video production team know or forget who the bandleader was? With the shiny metal honky thing at the front of the stage? Killer band, love me some Adam Nussbaum.
He also had some aversion to filming the soloist from the front for some reason.
Yeah, what the heck. Brecker is absolutely killing it and they never show him once in a couple songs. Weird.

What incompotent was in charge of the sound and camera?
Many of these 80s recordings have somewhat inferior sound recordings. Quite annoying really. Mike's sax is way down in the mix and it's all ride and snare.
I know during upside downside during Mike Stern's solo , the camera man decides not to show Stern on most of his solo and that's his song. Incompetent is exactly the word.

The challenge was to film an entire concert without showing a single solo player. Unfortunately, we can see some bits.
This a festival! No soundcheck before the show.. Clearly at the beginning the sound engineer is doing a fast soundcheck during the first song on the fly!
That's why you hear every console channel one by one..
