Ron ... Thank You for being You!!! Uncle Saud loves You as the extraordinary person that You are, and the same for Your Artistry & Professionalism 💥 Keep on Jammin'!!!!!!!💖
It is such a blessing to have these musical giants in my musical life. It was an even greater blessing to have seen them at various times in my lifetime. By the time Brecker was ready for Tyner, they fit like a glove and blew the doors off everything they played.
Solo starting at 47.53 is beyond my human conception. The tempo and rythm and sincope is like a direct injection of the sweetest drugs into my innermost brain. I know every phase of that shit but still everytime I cant do anything but cry of joy...
I heard of McCoy Tyner when I saw Him play with John Coltrane and I heard Him on Ramsey Lewis Radio Show and I was HOOKED! I also had the rare opportunity to hear Him live in Cleveland and I was just in awe; There will never be another McCoy Tyner He was just that FABULOUS ❤
the best american jazzgroup that toured Europe in the 90 ties!. sorry about the loss of the two front guys- RIP I love McCoys left hand and Brecker was a creative genious and his abilities on the horn were outstanding olav bøe norway
McCoy Tyner carried the spirit of John Coltrane, and has long been an inspiration to me as a pianist. Michael Brecker, another giant of jazz (and he's not even black!) R.I.P. both of these special souls.
Wow!!!! First time seeing this video. Wow!!! My life has been blessed by seeing both McCoy and Michael live at two separate venues. A truly major highlight in my life. Great video.
About the comment " Just after McCoy started his intro (27:30) for some reason Michael Brecker walks from stage. McCoy, not fully aware of this, suddenly finds that Michael is no longer there to play the melody..", clearly at 27:25 Brecker is ready to go, far before Mc Toy Tyner had begun to play, Brecker was a great professionnal, not a lunatic man on stage. At this level everything is planned.
Never think that Uncle is unaware of what's going on at any particular time on stage!!! He's always Mindful ..... as for Michael, have You thought that this was purposeful so he could do whatever was necessary to cool himself?
Becker is surely an amazing saxophone player and a musician of great knowledge. I tried to enjoy his playing - but so far could not connect. Maybe he’s too skilled for my taste
For me, the pairing of McCoy Tyner with Michael Brecker is the perfect combination. Tyner's earlier collaboration with Joe Henderson didn't work too well. That is because Tyner was a far nore advanced musician than Henderson. Specifically, Tyner often makes rapid chromatic alterations and plays 'outside' the tonal centre - Joe Henderson had no clue how this was done, whereas for Michale Brecker playing 'outside' is as natural as breathing. I daresay non-jazz players will not understand what is meant by this, but any musicians who are well versed in modern and contemprary jazz will know precisely what I'm talking about here. Whilst in some respects a liking for certain music and musicians is merely a matter of personal taste, from the POV of anyone who knows how to analyse music, there are some very clear means by which to evaluate the quality of someone's playing and their improvisational abilities. So, yes Coltrane and Tyner made a great team together, but for me Brecker brings an even more fruitful, coherent and complete package to the table which in combination with Tyner represents the pinnacle of post-bop musicianship.
Not a fan of the Brecker ego. He must realize he is the least of the masters here. How in the he you gonna out play The Maestro with just technique. Ya gotta stay in a humble spirit.
Huh? He is just being himself. You ever meet Michael Brecker? He’s as humble as they come. You’re confusing technique with ego. They aren’t the same thing.
Albert, McCoy said in an interview that Brecker is the modern version of Coltrane. Brecker was as humble as they come. Listen to the Brecker brothers in Spain concert. His solo on skunk funk is god like. Different than anything coltrane, bird, potter, ever could come close to.
Without the shoulders of the likes of Bird, John Coltrane, Rollins, Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus and many others to stand on, Michael Brecker woud have played- what? You suppose MB would have invented/developed Bebop, Hard Bop and Modal Jazz single handedly? In music as well as in the field of engineering, there are many who perfected things, but few who came up with original ideas. Brecker for my taste much to often goes on a tour de force, showing off his prowess. He just knew he was too late to be a real innovator, so he aimed to be the perfectionist. I'm simplifying of course, but hey, this is just a comment on youtube after all. To each his own. I'm perfectly fine with you praying to Brecker.
A performance for the ages - pre and post history. The very best of humanity.
Happy 85th birthday McCoy Tyner! There will never be another like you!
You've said an OCEAN'S WORTH .... and MORE!!!!!!🤗💖🤩😎🌠🎼🎹

Fantastic! Better sound quality than the recording of the same lineup at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1998.

Where oh where oh where is the melody? :-) haha
I love all the players but not the music

What drives people to take clearly next level, inspired playing and project this nonsense onto the players is mind boggling to me.
