Every era of Miles has something to offer, as far as I'm concerned. People get so upset when artists they admire don't stay frozen in time. It's a shame, really.
I agree but I think its also totally acceptable to like a specific era of Miles and not like another one. You dont have to like EVERYTHING Miles did just because you really liked some of it. And that is totally fine, no one will get offended.
@@moistpeanut5986 I agree with you as well. My issue is less that people may not like everything, and more that some people feel that only the stuff they like has any value, or is "good". Should've clarified.
At the legendary Montreux Festival, a legendary Jazz artist like no other, Mr Miles Davis! His music is so sophisticated, spatial, colorful that infinite sounds are spread, syncopated, sometimes funky, pyschedelic; it's like Picasso painting the sky with improvised random colors!
This music exhudes a powerfull futuristic vibe, sophisticated yet raw and wild. I ve never listened Miles Davies music in detail. Till today.. This concert its magnificient.
That is straight up a bass guitar. He is playing lead bass, his signal has been altered through the use of effects etc so it sounds like a guitar but he is playing a bass with the smallest gauge of bass string.
Miles always succeeded in surrounding himself with excellent musicians. Again here in the 80-ies. I really love the sound and their individual performances. I treasure this CD so much that I've been searching to buy a second copy. Just in case. And didn't find one! OMG! That is scary.
If you love Foley on the lead bass guitar, watch his other concerts with Miles, and an interview with Miles where he talked about Foley and his other musicians. I had the opportunity to see them together many times. What a great time that was, camping out for two weeks at a camp ground close to Montreux and take in the best live concerts ever, like Marcus Miller! Hell I’m so ready to go see Marcus live again once this Covid crap is over!
I am always amazed by the variety of music that comes from a Miles Davis group. This concert does not even range over half of Miles Davis' contributions. His music will always be a gift to humanity.
I was there as well! I’m Swiss and during that time I travelled all over to see Miles live! I miss him, the only musician that brought tears in my eyes when he died in 91!
people! if you want to live another evening of your wonderful life for a reason, then be sure to plunge into this world of beautiful jazz Renaissance music..!)
Saw them when I was a kid with my dad! This band was very good. I remember Marilyn Mazur and Rick Wellman! Incredible drumming & rythm sections! Foley also was a player!
Breath taking ... such a brilliant band under the direction of a legend is beautifully devastating ...a nuclear explosion of funnkiness. Miles just brings it.
Thank you for posting this!! I had the 20 CD Montreux box set back in the day, never got around to buying the DVD set. Great to see the video of this incredible concert. This one and his 4 sets from 1985 were my favorites from the CD box set
RESPECT! A true artist "speaks " for himself / herself! I have nothing to add...and Miles was / is both eloquent and articulate as "the Devil" himself. My gratitude runs deep! Thanks for the upload.
true, but this is 8o% fusion/funk, less jazz imo...but actually, it doesn`t matter at all what we call it, doesn`t it?! it`s simply the music of mr.davis i`d say;-)
Je crois me souvenir qu'à un moment Miles lui souffle à l'oreille "This is YOUR night." Magique!
I am sure this is a concert for a novice like myself, but I enjoyed it more than anything I had previously heard by Miles. I realise it is time to work on that novice thing.Thank you,you have made a change in my life.
Saw this same band April 15, 1988 in the 300 capacity small club, the Coach House in Orange County, CA. It was loud and Foley and Kenny Garrett literally blew the roof off. Sad these days are over.
I remember hearing Miles back in the day, i did not appreciate Jazz then like i should have because i was in my 20 's and was fully into R&B and having fun. Now i am totally into Jazz. MR.MILES DAVIS was a genius and is very much missed. One day hopefully God will bring back during the Ressurection and maybe we get to hear him once more. S.HghT.
i saw them in honolulu hawaii, at the waikiki shell outdoors (primo) around this time, and wow, what a concert!!!!! double header with the stanley clarke band!!! both bands had 2 bass players each, and no guitarists. this bass player is a baaad ass, he's from hawaii, and miles let him rip endless solos, and he was on fiiiire... benny rietveld.... while the instrument that sounds like a guitar is a piccolo bass, by mr foley..... what a day, what a night...............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111111111111
My favorite period : from the return "The man with the horn" to the end. I've seen him on stage in Liévin (France), his band has killed me and it was impossible to listen and played any music during 2 weeks. Lol
Probably one of the best live performances I can recall EVER from anyone. Saw 3 live! What a blessing
Probably. One of the. What a nice safe statement. Hardly an opinion.

the cosmos it is changing every moment ....so Miles it is big as the cosmos

Yup.
J’y étais ce soir là. Magique de revoir ce concert, merci.
Absolutely original and amazing music - knocked out by the virtuosity that Miles brings out of people. The King of Cool.
The jamming after Human Nature is just amazing, so much heart & feeling in the playing here, especially GARRETT.
Yes, it is...!!!!!

Each a musical virtuoso Ive never seen a four string lead/rhythm guitar till this concert great concert thanks Miles👑
