These Lincolns of this generation, 1980-1989, i feel had better ergonomics and build quality than the Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham equvilant in my opinion. Ford sold a ton of them since they were so popular and beloved by so many people. I love the story behind this car being owned by a Lincoln dealership owner for his wife too.

Adam’s evaluation of cars is SPOT ON! I remember seeing a Givenchy 1983 Mark VI for sale on a used car lot in 1988 when I was 22 and took it for a test drive. I was daily driving my 70 Mark iii at the time and right away I noticed exactly what Adam stated. The steering felt very tight and faster ratio and I thought it was rack and pinion as it felt very “tight”. The ride was also very isolated and quiet but very stable and well dampened. Over all the perfect balance of isolation, decent handling and steering preciseness. These are great rode cars for sure!

Nice Lincoln! I used to work at the Budd Co. and Budd made all the major class A sheet metal assemblies for the Lincoln, Mark, & Continental - Door, Fenders, Quarter Panels. Deck lids, Hoods and Roof assemblies. They also did the T-birds - 55-50 BIW . The Lincolns were built at Wixom Michigan and I spent a few days there and Budd had a representative there at all times. Thanks for your video.

Love those wire wheels on the 89 Town Car!!! I love the key-pad entry on the Town Car. I think Lincoln came out with the keypad in 1981? The interiors are even "more quiet" with the velour cloth interiors...
I love the churn sounds of this generation Town Car including the power steering pump and the AC compressor and don't forget about the transmission howl at low speeds.
I believe 1989 was the only year with the really "orange" front turn single assembles.

I rented a brand new 1989 Town Car Signature Series for the Barrister's Ball in my second year of law school and it remains one of my favorite cars of all time. The car started and ran flawlessly, was super responsive for car of its size, and literally oozed class. We were the best-dressed couple there. I did not want to return the thing. The next generation Town Cars were a very handsome evolution of the boxy Town Cars. The later jellybean Town Cars were hideous by comparison and I just don't understand how anyone could find them attractive.

BTW I’ve been doing my own window repairs for years on my fords/Lincoln’s. Years ago those plastic “pins”/bushings weren’t readily available so I improvised. I now have about 20-25 of them got a “deal”. Naturally since I bought them I never had a window fail lolololol. Talk about real “TREAT” take apart the rear windows on a 67-69 Tbird or 69-71 Mark lll (same set up ) to change that vulcanized gear on the sliding rear quarter window! A real time consuming PIA

Awesome car. I had an '86 Signature Series, charcoal grey with charcoal grey velour interior. The car was serene to drive, the ultimate in comfort, ride & handling, and was virtually indestructible. Basically an army tank in a fancy prom dress. The only problem I ever had with it over 90k miles is the rubbery trim pulling away from the top of the glove box door, which I learned was very common. Cost of ownership was oil changes, one set of rear brake pads, one set of tires and a 79 cent tube of contact cement! Wish I still had it.

I can believe it said 26mpg. If you just reset it and then got on the highway you could average 26mpg. It isn't really realistic to say it gets that much as at 26 that is basically 100 percent highway driving with no stop in go. In a 2006 Cadillac DTS I can average 30-32mpg if I reset before I get on the highway. Once it is up to speed if you keep your foot on the pedal in the exact ride way you can get 30mpg or so. However realistically my average is 23mpg which I still think is pretty good. 21mpg average in the Lincoln is pretty good. I seem to remember back in the day them getting around 15mpg average.
